Nick's work had been pretty boring since he started working on his own, the shifts seemed longer and the work seemed boring. Nick managed to get ahold of the small cart that he drove. He noticed his back had been hurting from driving the cart.
Nick finished issuing the Ticket he was writing, placing it on the windshield of a car as the paw of dark-furred panther snatched the slip, looking over it.
"A parking ticket, it was gone three minutes," The panther said clearly upset with the fox standing before him, pointing to the expired meter as he grumbled, placing the paper in his pocket, shooting a glare at the fox.
"You pay the fine or appear that day in court" Nick waved at him, driving off. Nick walked to the cart, sitting down, Nick was mildly tired and closed his as his phone started ringing. Nick sat up, bashing his head on the roof of the cart.
Nick pulled the phone from his pocket seeing it was an unknown number as he answered.
"Hello, Nick Wilde, how may I help you," Nick said as the voice on the other end spoke.
"Yeah, Mr. Wilde, it's Dr. Cooper, the doctor who looked over your partner's pregnancy," The voice said as Nick remembered the raccoon who looked at Judy when she first got her stomach aches.
"Dr. Cooper, I'm assuming there is a reason you called, and I'm guessing it has something to do with Judy, is something wrong?" Nick asked worried about calling a call from a doctor as he listened to Cooper's breaths.
"Nothing is wrong Mr. Wilde, I just thought I should let you know that Judy has just entered labor, your wife called for an ambulance while you were at work because she was in great pain. Nick was sweating like a river.
"It's happening, she giving birth now?!" Nick asked as Cooper explained that she was in labor, which should last a few hours before the actual delivery, but it's expected to go off without a hitch" Cooper explained. Nick was still in disbelief, he knew this day was coming for the first couple of months, thanking Cooper for calling as he said goodbye hanging up.
Nick checked his watch, Bogo had to give him time off for this. Nick pushed the chief's number into his phone explaining the situation to the chief, practically begging for the rest of the day off, Judy was in labor and about to give birth.
"You can have the rest of the day off, but you're gonna have to take an extra shift next week to make up for the time," Bogo said as Nick acknowledged these terms sounded fair He'd have to stop by the station and return the cart and change into his regular clothes.
"Also tell Judy, that we wish her best," Bogo said as Nick smiled, hearing the voice, saying he'd pass it along to her, hanging up the phone. Nick headed back to the cart, flooring the gas pedal as the cart slowly rolled along the road as Nick took a deep breath.
Eventually, Nick braked the small cart at the station, running into the locker room as a few stragglers took wind. Nick spent little time changing as he placed his uniform in his locker changing into his regular clothes. Nick examined himself in his locker mirror.
Nick sprinted out of the station, heading to his convertible, Nick put the keys in the ignition as he started his cars. Nick's mind was flooded with thoughts, what if their child was a deformed mix of fox and rabbit parts, what if Judy died giving birth, from what Nick heard that was a real thing that happened.
"No, I'm overreacting, Judy's the toughest mammal I know, she can handle this" nick told himself as he drove his car down the road, Nick decided to turn off the radio, he needed a clear head, he was already driving with a lot on his mind, the last thing he needed was a distraction.
Nick took a deep breath as he noticed a siren blaring behind him, Nick glanced over to see who was well over the speed limit as Nick had to pull over, tapping his fingers eagerly on the steering wheel, hoping the other officers would understand this and just give him the ticket.
"Alright, do you know why - Nick," The voice said belong to officer Fangmayer and was beside Wolford. Nick breathed a sigh, these two were some of Nick's friends on the force
"Where's the fire, Wilde?" Wolford asked looking down as Nick explained the Judy was about to have her baby, Nick had just gotten the call from her doctor and was in the hospital as the two looked at each other than back to Nick.
The two agreed not to fine Nick and even provide him an escort to the hospital. Nick thanked them as they shrugged it off, saying Nick would do the same for them, they all got back to the cars. the cruiser taking the lead as Nick's convertible trailed behind it. The two cars drove like hell to the hospital. Eventually, Nick made it, thanking the two who just drove off.
Nick parked into the lot, turning off his engine, pulling out the keys as he left the car. speed walking into the hospital, looking for the desk as he found it. A llama in a receptionist outfit was on a computer as Nick rang the bell on her desk, getting her attention.
"I heard my wife is in labor, could you guide me to her? Nick asked low on his breath as she looked at him, telling by the look he was suddenly about to be a parent.
"Name of your wife?" She asked as Nick give her Judy's name as the llama clicked on her keyboard, finding the room.
"Here she is, Judy Wilde is in room 138, take the elevator to the third floor and go down the hallway on the left, on the right side," She said as Nick thanked her, heading to one of the medium-sized elevators. Nick noticed the sets of buttons, pushing the 3 on the middle set. the door closed as the sound of relaxing music was head.
The elevator stopped as Nick exited, walking down the left hallway, looking at the doors on the right. 132,...134,...136... here it is, 138" Nick said opening the door, seeing Dr. Cooper in an empty room, drinking a cup of coffee.
"Oh, Mr. Wilde, you made it," Cooper said sipping his coffee as Nick looked at the empty room. Nick asked where Judy was as Cooper looked at him, setting his cup down, explaining she was just taken into the maternity ward 15 minutes. Nick pounded the counter, blaming himself for being late as he looked at Cooper.
"Did she have the baby yet?" Nick asked as Cooper shrugged, saying he wasn't tried in delivering and has not heard anything.
"Even so, the most we can do is wait, everything seemed normal, would you like a drink, it helps settle the nerves," Cooper asked, saying there was a vending machine down the hall as Nick just rolled his eyes. stating a package of cupcakes would be good right now. Cooper said he would get them. Nick wanted to stay in the room, in case there any headway with Judy's condition.
Nick stayed in the room, waiting for Cooper to return with cupcakes as he did, handed the plastic-wrapped treats to Nick who tore it up, placing on the chocolate cylinders in his mouth, taking a bite.
Eventually, a female beaver walked in the room, holding a clipboard, as she called out to Cooper, looking at Nick. Copped explained the fox was Nick Wilde, Judy's husband.
"How's my wife doing?" Nick asked in the calmest matter possible as the beaver smiled, saying the delivery was a complete success and the child was perfectly healthy. Nick breathed a sigh of relief, realizing he was worrying.
"Can I see them please?" Nick asked as the Beaver looked at him, saying they were cleaning the baby and they should be done by the time she returned as Nick went with her. Nick took a deep breath.
"So, what was Judy like, when she was giving birth?" Nick asked, trying to envision the sight as the doctor said she handled it the same way most first time mothers handle it. They eventually came to the door of the maternity ward.
"Well, here it is," The doctor said opening the door for Nick to enter. Nick took a breath before entering, knowing the next time he saw Judy, they would become parents.
