So it's short but, I am close to finishing this off. I did have more ideas planned before the event's in chapter 90 but as fun as they were for me, it would only sit as filler and this story is so close to being done that I am...not gonna speed to the end but I won't linger on getting there either. So after this, I'll have them heading to the World That Never Was.

The drive towards the islands felt long and silent. The only sight each wanting to see being their love walking through the cockpit door. Roxas had been in Sora's room prior but could no longer bear watching the brunet heal with barely any movement. In the end, the blond ended up in the cockpit with them. Asking someone else to go in his place but neither had the guts to do so. The idea of watching him recover felt like they would be watching him die. Neither could handle seeing him after he had been shot so how could either handle seeing him recover and sleep? Ventus had a death grip on the controls just to keep himself in check. Axel decided to play on the tablet he took from Sora. The only source to keep himself sane in this moment. The islands finally came into sight but the scream they hear has the ship lurch to a stop.

Long Break Needed

Chapter 91

Ventus has the ship on hover and is out of his chair already. Running out of the cockpit with Roxas and Axel behind him. They run right to Sora's room. Happy that the door slides open and run in. The bed is empty but the bathroom door is open and light on. The three run to it and see Sora looking at himself. Wide eyed, pale and scared of what he now looked like. A black spot around his right elbow, one around his right eye, one around his left wrist with some going on his left hand and the last on around his right knee. Marks they had to tell him would never go away but how could they do that?

"What happened to me? Last I remember is dying then...Death freaking out and now…" Sora's words have all three focus on his facial expression; they see fear. "What did he do to me?"

"He…" Ventus stops and looks away.

"Death snapped." Axel sighs, putting a hand on Ven's shoulder. "He couldn't bare to see someone he had watched grow up, be killed."

Roxas remains quiet but studies Sora's expression. It went from fear to anger then to a mix of both.

"Once that happened, he merged with you. Creating...some...ice creature. You had bone wings, long dead nails, pale skin, pale hair. Your normal blue eyes…they glowed, unnaturally." Axel shuddered. "You looked like…"

Sora's face slowly faded from an anger filled glare to horror then faded into pure sadness as he says, "A twilight monster."

"Yeah but two gods. The one of light and dark saved you. They managed to separate you two." Ven spoke up at last.

"It doesn't change what happened. Now I have to face everyone like this and I can't cover these marks. Dammit, I shouldn't have..I should have just kept my mouth shut. None of that would have happened then." He raised a clenched fist and slams it against the sink, cracking the porcelain. "If I just kept my mouth shut.."

Roxas walked over and grabbed the raised fist again, "So you mocked them, big deal." His words made the brunet look at him. "They saw you as...an object. They didn't deserve any gentleness or respect from us, or you. Hell, the minute you died...they said they would drain your blood and make more light mages. They didn't care if you were a living human. They saw a battery, that's all."

"What, so I was meant to mock them and be shot?"

The blond opened his mouth but shut it and shrugs, "I don't have an answer. I can't look too far ahead so I won't ever have one." he lowers Sora's hand, still holding it for good measure. "I just know that even if you were nice to them, they would have turned on you."

The brunet keeps staring at him, a mixture of emotions on his face; "I died. What did that do to…" He grabs his shirt. "Did I get them killed?"

"We'll have to wait and see. We are gonna go to the islands. We are resting until she is here. If Axel has one during that time, we wait even more until they are here. I know the worlds need us to end whatever Xemnas is planning at this moment but after what happened?" Roxas sighs, gently grabbing Sora's other hand. "I say we take a longer break than originally planned."

"I'd argue...but I am just too tired to care. You can take the lead until it's time to go out again." Sora leans against him. "I just want this over with."
