True Love's Eyes

As Fili shut his brother's door behind him, he couldn't help but let out a small chuckle that he'd been holding in.

The sight of his daughter sprawled over her Uncle's lap as he sat in front of the fire, asleep himself, had been priceless.

Thora had insisted on a 'sleepover' with Kili and he'd been all up for it. Of course, Fili hadn't the heart to tell him about the early morning wake-up call from her, that would consist of her poking his nose until he woke up and then, jumping up and down on his bed so he would get dressed quickly.

Fili decided he wanted his baby brother to find that out for himself.

When he made his way back towards his own rooms, he looked forward to spending a (hopefully) uninterrupted night with his beloved.

As he opened the door and glimpsed over at the bed however, she was not where she was supposed to be.

He entered his rooms and wondered where on earth she could be if not the bed she said she was going to climb into.

A little crackle from the fire caught his attention and he looked over and...he really shouldn't have been surprised.

Dru was laid out on her back, her hands either side of her as she slept.

Her little round belly was steadily growing and her nightdress had ridden up until her thighs were bared.

Gods, she looked beautiful.

His mouth went dry at the sight of her. He always felt she had put him under a spell and if it were so, he never wanted to be awoken from it.

Quietly, he joined her on the floor, laying alongside her but not quite touching her just yet.

"I am so lucky to have you in my life. I love you more than all of Erebor and will continue to love you until the last star flickers out in the night sky," his hand finally moved to gently brush back her hair, just so he could see more of her face, "and I say all this now because I know you'll call be a romantic old sod if you were awake. But I hope it carries into your dreams and you know every word I speak to be true."

Whilst his voice had not roused, it seemed the little attention he was paying to her hair had caused her to stir, and a few moments later, she turned and sleepily blinked open her eyes at him.

"Hello," she yawned and stretched out her arms above her head, Fili's eyes drawn to the bottom of her nightdress as it rose up again.

"Hello," he chuckled as she shimmied her hips so the hem stayed where it was and did not ride up anymore, "funny place to sleep?"

She smiled at him and shut her eyes.

"Mm. I needed to get warm and then I got comfortable," she ran her hands out and stroked the fur rug beneath her, "I ate a lot of pie and now I'm fat and can't move. I'm very content."

She sighed and reached her, her fingers threading into the thick locks of his hair.

He leant forward and pressed gentle kisses against her face, starting from her brow and leading down to her lips.

"You're not fat, you're with child."

"The same thing," she laughed and grabbed the front of his tunic, tugging him closer, "do you have any more work tonight?"

"No," he smiled and gently rubbed the tip of his nose against hers.

"Lay with me here for a bit?" Her leg hooked over the back of his and stroked her foot up and down the back of his thigh.

"Not the bed?" He arched a brow, wondering why she wouldn't want to snuggle up on the mattress, but truthfully, he had no complaints about their current arrangement.

"Not yet. I want to see you in the firelight."

For a moment, they were silent as they listened to only the sounds of one another's breathing and the gentle crackling of the fire.

And then, content and happy, she slowly hummed a familiar tune before singing the words out loud.

"Come white moss, weave us a carpet,

Spreading oak make a shade where we lie.

Leaves and branches, whisper a love song,

When I look in my true love's eyes.

Young as any spring, his eyes almost sing to me."

Seeing she was beginning to lag again and yawning before she could finish humming, he took over, knowing the tune all too well from their childhood.

Safe, happy and loved in her husband's embrace, she slipped back into her sleep as he hummed the tune.

His hand rested over her belly as he watched her and quietly, he sang the rest of the words to her.

And though he didn't want to wake her, he did hope the words carried into her dreams.

'Come down sparrow, sing me good morning.

Rise up sun like the arch of the sky.

Living river, turn light to diamonds

When I look in my true love's eyes.

Like a child feels watching a rainbow.

Like a bird feels the first time it flies.

I feel magic stirring within me,

When I look in my true love's eyes.

Young as any spring, her eyes almost sing.

In the bumps and the hollows,

The sunlight and shadows.

He kissed her as those bluebells played.

As his lips met her breath,

He went sweetly to death,

At the roots of the bluebells is where he's laid.

Come down sparrow, sing me good morning.

Rise up sun like the arch of the sky.

Living river, turn light to diamonds

When I look in my true love's eyes.

Happy 100 tales of Erebor! Thank you for being here with me for almost a year. Tales of Erebor will not make it to 200, but 100 and a bit more. And yes, that is the song from Legend by Ridley Scott.
