Interlude-I won't Loose You
The reports coming out of Onderon had been good, great even. They had more than proven the twins' theory training locals who wished to fight back against the Separatists on occupied worlds could work. It would free up more men to fight the bigger battles. All the Jedi and Republic needed to do was send in a few commanders to cover the training plus the weapons and supplies that would be needed. It was effective. It would save the GAR and Order both time and manpower. And Onderon proved that it could be very successful and start the beginnings for a stronger planetary military.
But it was names of the end of the reports that had Rex worried. The names of those who had lost their lives. It wasn't a long list. It was in fact far shorter than the lists Rex was used to seeing, but there was one name on there that had shocked him and made him worry.
Steela Gerrera.
Her name had been on the list as well as how her death had happened. A random shot from a downed droid gunship that had slammed into Ahsoka who had been reached for the rebel General. His little Commander had been jolted from the Force and Steela had fallen to her death.
Rex couldn't touch the Force, but he just knew what Ahsoka was going through. She would be feeling guilt, upset that she could have saved Steela and hadn't. He and her family could help her with that just as he helped all his vod'e who found themselves in similar positions.
But it was Ahsoka's injury that Rex's heart leaping up into his throat. She had been shot and it had been bad. But Ahsoka had waited to get help and didn't even want Analise to heal her because others had needed help more.
His sweet, loving, little cyar'ika.
But she had been hurt. Again. And he hadn't been with her. He should have been there, but he had his orders and orders always came first. And it was at times like these that he hated it. Because every-time Ahsoka was hurt or when they were separated, it felt like he might loose her. Like he might never see her again.
So that was why he was standing on the landing platform, watching as the ramp of their ship was lowered. Rex was going to grab his cyar'ika and haul her off somewhere where it would be the two of them for just a little while.
Obi-Wan was off the ship first. He looked up from his datapad and smiled at Rex before glancing back over his shoulder. He could Ahsoka's protests as Anakin carried her down the ramp with Analise trailing behind them.
"Come on Anakin! It's just my shoulder. I can walk!"
"Nope. This is what you get for not letting Analise work on your shoulder." Ahsoka tried to cross her arms, but winced and settled for pouting instead.
"Hi Rex," the female Knight waved as she cut around her siblings when they reached the platform. "Everything good with the 501st and 212th?"
"Yes sir. Cody is waiting to speak with General Kenobi and I'll have my report on the 501st ready later..."
"Rex!" He automatically reached out to catch Ahsoka as she scrambled free from Anakin's grip and nearly tripped. He glared at the bandage on her arm. "Please save me from my evil Master! He hasn't let me out of his sight since he came to Onderon." She wrapped her good arm around him while Anakin sighed and held up his hands in surrender.
"Okay! Okay..." He ran his mech hand through his hair. "Look...you and Rex can take off for a little bit, but you need to be before dinner. Che and Analise will have my head if you don't get that shoulder checked out."
"Will do my best Sir!" Rex called as Ahsoka started pulling him away. "Ahsoka you really shouldn't be doing that..."

The water garden hadn't changed since the first time Anakin and Analise had taken Ahsoka there. It was the chosen hiding place of the Skywalker siblings when they wanted to be alone with each other or their significant other. Now Ahsoka brought her Rex here.
They sat near the edge. Well Rex sat with his back against a tree and Ahsoka in his lap, held tight, but carefully within his arms. She cuddle close, pressing up against him. She was thankful that he had left off his armor since he technically wasn't on duty that day. It let Ahsoka feel and hear the heartbeat of her Captain better.
It was a welcome sound. His warmth felt like her favorite blanket wrapped all around her. The pain, the sorrow, the memories of Onderon seemed to fade. Her siblings had helped feel less lost, now back with Rex she felt whole again. It felt like all the color had returned to her world.
But here in the arms of her Rex, she also felt haunted by something else.
"Lux and Steela...we joked before the final battle about the four of us going on a double date." Rex's fingers were lightly stroking along the markings on her montrals and lekku, one of the few that she would allow to do that. "They were just finally ready to be with each other and see if they could have what we have and...now they won't have that chance." A tear fell down her face and was gently wiped away by rough and loving hands. "And now I'm afraid that after everything we've been through, I'm going to loose you."
"No!" Rex tightened his grip on his little Commander, careful not to jostle her injured shoulder. "I will never leave you by choice. And I will always return to you, always be with you. You are my ka'rta. We are one cyar'ika and always will be."
"Rex..." she pulled back a little and stared into his loving eyes. "Did you...are you asking me to marry you?"
"Well," her gruff trooper blushed, "It kind of is...but I know you're still too young to get married and stuff and..."
"Anakin would skin you alive." She twisted around a little so she could lock her arms around his neck. There a bright, wonderful smile.
"Since he already said you can't get married til your thirty." Her laughter was so bright and clear like a bell and it filled his heart to bursting.
"So it's a secret and we'll just elope when I turn eighteen." Her Rex laughed then reached into a pocket and pulled out a box. She opened it open to see a silver ring with stone the same blue as her eyes. It was why he had picked it. He took her left hand and slipped it on her finger. "I'll get a chain for you to wear around your neck so that we don't spook Anakin."
Ahsoka giggled and smiled down at her ring. Then she remembered something and looked back up at Rex, tilting her head. "Rex, what does ka'rta mean?"
"It means heart or soul. You are my heart and soul. Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum my ka'rta."
"Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum my Captain."
Rex smiled and bent his head, capturing Ahsoka's lips in a soft sweet kiss. She hummed, closing her eyes and tightening her grip as she pressed as close as she could to him.
The stars far overhead sparkled and danced.
Be happy my friend and thank you.
