Chapter 80:
Derek watches his wife sleep besides him the next morning. He listens to her soft snores that sound like music to him now. His mouth forms into a smirk as he brushes her hair away from her face. She is laying on her back with one hand behind her head and the other resting on her heart. Derek's eyes move lower and he feels his breath catch. Moving the blanket down some, he reveals her naked body, leaving just under her stomach covered. Derek places his hand on her stomach and pats it twice. His eyes tear with happiness for what felt like the billionth time at the memory of the day before, but he does not care. He rubs Meredith's smooth, soft as silk skin. She is so beautiful to him in this moment, he cannot get over it. Actually, he thinks, she is beautiful to him in every moment. This was just one of those moments that shocked him as to how she becomes more beautiful to him. Just when he didn't think it could be possible. He moves over and bends to lean over her stomach. "Good morning, babies." He whispers and he tears up again, shaking his head a little. "We are so happy you are in there. Please stay safe." He coos as he kisses her skin. "Shh, guys, mama's waking up." He says as he sees Meredith start moving around. Derek kisses Meredith's stomach again twice and moves up to hover his chest over her.
"Derek?" Meredith says with sleep etched in her tone when she sees him hovering over her.
"Good morning, beautiful." Derek coos and pulls her lips into a deep kiss. Making a loud moan escape from both of them. When he pulls away, he beams as he rubs her cheek and then chin with his thumb and forefinger.
"Der! She giggles. "I'm not."
"What? You're beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, strong, amazing and so much more. Damn, I love you so much Meredith Grey." He murmurs huskily.
Meredith gazes at Derek, moving to hold his strong face in her hands. She scrapes her fingertips along his stubble. "I love you, too Derek." She pulls him down to kiss. "You been up long?"
"No, not at all."
"What were you doing up?" Meredith asks.
Derek blushes. "I was talking to the babies. Admiring your beauty."
"Oh, Der." Meredith giggles making Derek bend to kiss her. "That's so sweet." She rubs her stomach with both hands. "Good morning, babies." She coos.
"How are you feeling this morning?" Derek asks as he falls to his side and wraps one arm around Meredith's shoulders, pulling her to him. Then, he pulls the blanket up to cover her body. He leaves his hand on her stomach under the blanket. Protecting the little babies safe inside of their mama.
"Much better." Meredith cuddles into him and rests her hand next to his on her stomach. Their thumbs locked together. "Last night was amazing."
"Yes… It was." Derek says as he leans in to murmur against her lips.
"That was some amazing celebrating." Meredith murmurs back as she turns a bit more and runs her nails across his chest.
"Yes… It was. What do you say we celebrate some more in the shower?" Derek's eyes sparkle.
"Hmm… I could use a shower." Meredith giggles.
"Let's go." Derek laughs as he throws off the sheets and lifts Meredith's naked body into his strong arms. Meredith laughs as she grips her arms around his neck. Derek places her down inside before turning on the shower. Once it's on, he turns to look at Meredith. She's looking down at her stomach, rubbing her skin where the babies lay. Derek's breath quickens as he watches, his eyes roaming every spot of skin. "Mer." His voice is deep and husky, making Meredith look up with a blush. Her breath heavy. Derek walks closer and places his hands on her hips. "You amaze me." He says as he kisses her. Meredith moans as she leans in and kisses harder. She twists his curls in her fingers and pulls making Derek gasp in pleasure. Derek grinds his hardening erection against her folds as Meredith moans and let's one hand fall to run against his body.
"Shower… Der…" Meredith moans and pushes him backwards.
"Yes! Oh, Mer." He hums as the water falls around them. Derek backs her against the wall and places his hands on either side of her. Meredith smirks as her hands roam his wet body. She runs her fingers in his soaking hair as Derek just looks at her with a smile. A sheer reverence in his gaze. "You're amazing." He holds her chin with his fingers as he kisses her.
"Der, you are amazing. Not just me." Meredith says as she holds his cheeks and stares deep into his eyes that were darkened with desire and lust.
"Mer…" He hums again. Too stunned to speak. "You make me that way. Now… Let me show you how excited I am." Derek says against her lips once he finally finds the strength to speak. He lifts her into his arms making her wrap her legs tightly around her waist. She giggles as one of his hands find her ass and the other steadies itself in between her shoulder blades. Meredith grips his shoulders as they smile at each other.
"Derek." Meredith whispers in reverence.
"Hold on tight, Mer. I don't want you to fall." He says once he realizes that they were wet, in the shower beginning a high risk pregnancy.
"You won't drop me, Der." She says strongly, bending to kiss him. Derek smiles softly as he glances at her before moving to kiss her neck. "Oh!" Meredith hums as her head goes back and she leans closer to Derek's lips. Derek sucks her skin lower before he reaches her heaving breasts.
"Please tell me your boobs aren't sore." He murmurs.
"Try, Der." Meredith coos making Derek smile and move his hand from her back to her chest. She watches as Derek cups her breast in his hand. Testing the weight.
"Hmm, seems heavier." He moans with glee.
"I did think they seemed bigger a few days ago. My bras didn't… Fit." She looses her breath for a second as Derek squeezes her nipple.
"Sore?" Derek asks as he pauses his ministrations. Looking up at her.
"No! Not at all." Meredith moans. "You like?" She says as she watches Derek roll her breast in his hand and look at the other one longingly.
"Like?!" Derek gasps as he immediately bends his head and licks in the valley of her breasts quick before taking the other in his mouth. Flicking her nipple with his tongue while his other hand still rubbing her other breast. "I want to keep you pregnant forever. Either that or keep these." He moans as he goes back to sucking.
"DEREK!" Meredith cries in ecstasy as an orgasm rips through her as he sucks and rubs. "Oh! Oh!" She moans as she grinds against his erection that was still just pressing against her thigh.
"Yes, Mer." Derek coos with pride as he switches the placement of his mouth and hand. He gasps as she grips his curls and kisses his jaws.
"I need you inside of me, Der. Please, now!" Meredith whimpers. Derek chuckles as he sees the desire in her eyes. He presses her against the wet wall and moves to slide his cock inside of her carefully. She smiles in content as he pushes inside.
"So tight, Mer." Derek runs his hands over her wet body. She moans and pants at the sensations. They are almost doubled as Derek goes back to sucking on her breasts as he thrusts slowly. Meredith twists her fingers in his hair as she leans forward a bit to rest her cheek against his. "Yes!" He coos as he moves.
"Der! Der! Oh! That's it!" Meredith chants and pushes him closer to her chest. "So big!" She coos as she swears that she feels him swell more.
"Mer!" Derek chants as he moves up and begins biting her neck and kissing her lips and jaw. He places his forehead on hers and they both have soft smiles on their face as they thrust in time together. Derek feels her tighten around him and he pushes her hips closer to him as she gasps his name. He roars as they come together, frantically thrusting. "Yes!" He closes is eyes as he tightens his hold on her.
"Derek!" Meredith coos as she snuggles into his neck. "That was incredible!"
"It was!" Derek kisses her head and holds her against him.
"I love you, so much." Meredith murmurs.
"I love you, too." Derek adds. He holds her silently for a few minutes before they reluctantly move to actually shower and get ready for the day.
"I'll get the girls." Meredith says as she comes up behind Derek and wraps her arms around him. Laying her head on his soft sweater.
Derek smiles as he feels her weight on him. "Sure, I want to get Bailey anyway. It's his bike day."
"Okay." Meredith adds. "He is so excited. Especially since Zola learned so quickly."
"Yeah, he told me that he wants to learn faster than Zola. But, then he said that he wants me to stay right by him the whole time." Derek laughs a he grabs his brush.
"What?!" Meredith laughs. "He loves his daddy." She shakes her head.
"He's my boy." Derek agrees as he kisses her lips and heads to go get Bailey. Meredith watches him with a sparkle in her eye. She rubs her stomach, hoping that she has two boys in there. Two boys, identical to Derek. Sure, she would love two little girls, but something about watching Derek with Bailey was addicting. She pictured boys only camping trips with all of them wearing that funny gear. Carrying huge bags with tents. She saw Derek's happy face as he watched his boys show off their huge fish after a morning fishing trip.
"Mama! Mama!" Meredith is drawn out of her trance when she hears Bailey calling her.
"You okay, Mer?" Derek asks as he walks in, carrying Bailey.
"What? Oh, yeah. Just thinking about something." She coos and places her hands on her stomach.
"Oh." Derek smiles knowingly as they both look down. He bites his lips as his eyes tear up again.
"Mama!" Bailey pulls them back. "It's my bike riding day! Just me and daddy!" He cheers and hugs Derek.
"When I went inside, to get him, he was telling his stuffed animals all about what tonight was." Derek says as he holds Bailey in a tight hug.
"You're going to have so much fun!" Meredith rubs his back and kisses the boy's blonde locks.
"I can't wait, mama. You guys can't have no late surgy's cause me an daddy gotsta have our guy time."
"You're right, bud!" Derek says after laughing at Bailey's cute remark. "What do you say we go make our girl's some breakfast?"
"Yeah!" Bailey bounces in Derek's arms.
"I'll make oatmeal, Mer. In case your stomach…" Derek looks at Meredith pointedly.
"Okay." Meredith giggles before going to get Zola and Lexie. Before long, everyone is dressed and heading to drop off Zola. As they turn out of the school, Meredith turns to look at her two youngest. She smiles as she sees Bailey coloring in his seat and Lexie watching curiously. Turning to face forward, she takes Derek's hand that was on her thigh.
"LEXIE! No!" Bailey screams making Meredith whip around and Derek look in the rear view mirror.
"What happened?!" Meredith asks. In shock that the peacefulness changed so quick.
"Lexie dumped my crayons!" Bailey moans and Meredith sees that Lexie had grabbed the box of crayons that Bailey had between the car seat and his leg. She flung them all over both her and Bailey when she grabbed them.
"Oh, Lex." Meredith shakes her head. "Those are Bailey's crayons. We don't grab."
"Me!" Lexie babbles and takes a handful in her chubby little fingers and holds her arms up with them clutched tightly.
"Bailey, keep things she can dump away from her." Derek explains.
"She gots them all over!" He whines.
"Help me and mama get them from her. We are almost there." Derek says and leans a little closer to Meredith. "Don't turn and clean them up. In case something happens." He places his hand on her stomach. She nods as they hear Bailey groan.
"Give them to me, Lex!" Bailey strains to reach for the crayons in his seat.
"Lexie, give Bailey the crayons." Derek says as he pulls into the parking lot. The baby looks at Bailey and then Derek. She slowly hands the last crayons to her brother.
"Thank you, Lexie. Don't do that again!" Bailey pouts making his parents laugh.
"Hi, Bay!" Lexie giggles as her brother stares at her.
"I'm not laughing!" Bailey glares at her. Meredith and Derek both turned to watch, the car stopped.
"Lex, wave hi to Bailey." Derek smirks.
"No, no. Don't wave at me." Bailey crosses his arms and stares at his sister.
"Hi, hi." Lexie waves and giggles more. Her smile bright.
"Still not." Bailey grumbles.
"Lex, blow kisses." Meredith giggles.
"Lub! Lub!" Lexie coos as she blows kisses at Meredith and then Bailey. Derek watches as Bailey squirms, trying not to laugh.
"Kiss, Bay!" Lexie blows another kiss at Bailey. Making him giggle like crazy.
"Aww, man, Lexie!" Bailey laughs as he covers his mouth. "You got me." Meredith turns to look at Derek with a smile. Derek rubs her back and kisses her head.
"They're adorable." Meredith whispers as tears well in her eyes.
"You okay, Mer?"
"Yeah, hormones. They're doubled." Meredith wipes her eyes.
"I understand." Derek kisses her cheek before opening the door. "Come on, bud!" He leans in to get Bailey.
"Come here, angel." Meredith lifts Lexie in her arms, kissing her. Derek takes her hand in one and holds Bailey with the other. "Do you know when Addison is coming?" She whispers to Derek as they walk up to daycare.
"No idea." Derek shakes his head.
"Daddy, I wished it was time to go home!"
"Oh yeah, why's that, Bails?" Derek asks.
"So that we can ride my super cool bike!" Bailey squeals and jumps up and down. "Gonna learn how to ride a bike today!" He cheers and makes several nurses and doctors turn their heads.
"You are, buddy. You get to spend some time with daddy and practice just like Zola." Meredith wraps her arm around Derek's and falls into his side.
"Yep!" Bailey nods just as they reach the daycare. "I can't wait!" He says as he hugs Derek's legs. Derek laughs and lifts him high up into the air.
"It will be here as soon as you know it!" Derek kisses Bailey all over, relishing in his features that were all Meredith. Hoping the babies had the same. He hands Bailey to Meredith and he takes Lexie."Love you, angel." Derek kisses her and she latches onto him.
"Bye, mama. Hope you not too tired tonight!" Bailey says as he snuggles into her neck. Curling his legs around her waist.
"I'm better, buddy. Thanks for checking." Meredith kisses him and brushes his soft, blonde hair. They say goodbye once more to both of the kids. Bailey immediately running to play while Lexie stares at the door after they leave. Derek grabs Meredith's hand and keeps it in his the whole walk to the lounge. Meredith keeps her other arm looped in Derek's and her eyes trained on him. When they enter, they see Owen.
"Oh, hey guys. I was just going to page you."
"Sorry, we were running at bit behind. Lexie wanted to discover annoying her brother." Derek laughs.
"Just in time!" Owen laughs and gestures to Meredith's stomach, making everyone laugh. "So, listen. Addison is going to be here in an hour."
"Okay." Meredith nods.
"I was thinking, when do you want to tell our…group? Because it might be strange that Addison is here all of a sudden." Owen hints. Derek wraps an arm around Meredith and pulls her against him. She slips her arms around his waist. They look at each other, thinking.
"Well, Arizona, Cristina and Callie know." Meredith adds.
"We have to tell Karev, since he will be on your case." Derek adds.
"That leaves Richard, Miranda, April and Jackson." Owen finishes.
"Before the kids, Derek?" Meredith sighs.
"Good point." Derek muses.
"How would I explain Addison to them if we don't?" Owen asks.
"That she's here for a patient." Derek shrugs.
"You guys are planning on telling the kids at Zola's party Saturday, right?"
"Yeah." Meredith nods.
"Do you really want to deal with Kepner and Miranda at the same time as your kids when they find out?" Owen raises his eyebrows.
"Oh…" Meredith realizes.
"Alex might be mad if we told Cristina before him." Derek notes.
"Okay." Meredith sighs. "Let's tell them. It will be good to have more people looking out for us anyway." She shrugs and even Owen gasps at the shock of her statement. "What?! I'm choosing a new approach or whatever. I want these babies safe whenever they may come. If that means my family watching me, then, okay." She shrugs.
"I'm so proud of you, Mer!" Derek coos and kisses her happily.
"Wow… Okay… I will page them to the conference room. Meet us there in twenty minutes." Owen says and pulls out his pager.
"You ready for this, Mer?" Derek asks as they finish getting ready.
"Yeah. I really am. I want to tell at least this family." Meredith smiles as she looks at Derek. "Can we wait until I'm in my second trimester to tell the New York family?"
Derek smirks until realization comes over his face. "Oh definitely. Especially since…" He looks down sheepishly.
"What, Der?"
"Nancy is an OB…"
"Yeah, so?" Meredith shrugs.
Derek sighs and rubs his eyes after putting his scrub cap in his pocket. "Nancy is an OB and I chose Addison to be ours!" He says.
"Oh!" Meredith gasps and covers her mouth, giggling. "Well, I'm sure you will figure something out to explain." She shrugs and walks to the door.
"What?! No! Meredith!" Derek balks and runs to block the door. Lifting her and spinning her in the process. She giggles as she wraps her arms around his neck and buries her face in his neck.
"Derek!"
"Take it back." Derek laughs.
"What?" Meredith plays coy.
"That I'm alone at explaining that I chose my ex-wife over my sister." Derek says.
"Oh, Derek!" Meredith coos as she runs her hands up and down his chest. Eyeing the bit of chest hair poking through his scrubs. "Think of it like this. Family can't treat family. Plus, which is more awkward, your sister seeing…there. Or your ex-wife, who has already seen?"
"You have a point." Derek laughs. "Best wife ever!" He kisses her soft lips. "Come on, let's go tell people." Derek pulls her along to the conference room where April, Arizona, Alex and Richard were already waiting. Owen had shut the blinds and was waiting by the large window in the front of the room.
"What's going on, Hunt?" Richard asks as Derek and Meredith walk inside.
"Wait until we are all here." Owen nods firmly. As they sit, Callie, Miranda and Jackson walk inside. Meredith nudges Derek to show that Arizona was squeezing Callie's hand, no doubt keeping Callie calm. Since Callie had a huge, goofy grin on her face as she stared at them.
"I'm here, I'm here!" Cristina calls and goes to sit on the other side of Derek.
"Perfect." Owen claps his hands and goes to shut the door. Everyone looks at Owen suspiciously, not noticing the smirks on Cristina, Callie and Arizona's face. "Guys… I called you here because over the next few months, I am going to need your help. Keeping all hands on deck to protect one of our own. I have called in someone else to help as well as it was… Necessary." He turns to Meredith and Derek. The eyes in the room follow Owen's.
Taking the cue, Derek breathes in and out. A crazy, happy smile on his face. "Guys." Derek says as he hugs Meredith tight into his side. "Meredith is pregnant. With MoMo twins." The room goes silent as they process the information. Alex is the first to stand.
"Mer!" He cheers and lifts her up into a hug. "Congratulations!" He laughs in amazement.
"It's high risk, Alex. We want you on our case with Arizona and Addison." Meredith says as Alex holds her.
"Absolutely! Would be my honor!" Alex smiles. "These babies are in good hands."
"Thanks, Karev." Derek shakes his hand.
"I can't… I…" April gasps in shock as she covers her mouth. "Those types of twins are so rare! Their success rates are…" She stutters before being cut off by Jackson.
"What she means is… Congratulations." Jackson wraps his arms around his wife. "She did not intend to scare you." He pulls Meredith into a hug.
"I'm sorry, guys. I'm just in shock." April says. "Congratulations."
"Thanks, April." Meredith says as Derek pulls her to him.
"Kepner, this is why I need all hands on deck. They are switching schedules and Meredith will not have any traumas or long surgeries after twelve weeks." Owen rubs April's shoulder.
"Ya mind giving me some room so I can congratulate them!?" Miranda smirks, tired of waiting behind them, holding her arms out. Meredith falls into her arms as Miranda hugs her tight. "You will be great. You will have two more beautiful babies to love soon." She looks firmly into her old interns eyes. "We will do whatever we can. Just promise me one thing."
"What?" Meredith asks skeptically.
"Don't let them come out looking exactly like your fool of a husband here." Miranda smirks at Derek.
"Actually, that's exactly what I want." Meredith giggles.
Miranda stares at her in the only way that she can. "I will remind you of this someday then." She grins at Meredith. "Congratulations, Meredith, Derek. I am incredibly happy for you." She pats Derek's arm before stepping aside.
"Meredith, Derek! I am so proud!" Richard exclaims as he finally gets a chance to hug them.
"Thanks." They reply as Richard grabs them both.
"How far along are you?" Richard asks.
"Six and a half weeks. Seven on Sunday." Meredith says as she wraps her arms around Derek.
"So…that's…" Alex calculates and covers his mouth. He turns around to hide his laughter.
"What's so funny, Karev?!" Miranda asks with her hands on her hip as Jackson and Arizona start laughing as well. Meredith hiding in Derek's chest as they both blush.
"Yeah." Richard and April wonder as well.
"That was the day Mer got cleared after her attack." Jackson says between peals of laughter.
"What?! Oh, come on!" Miranda gasps.
"I cleared her." Callie laughs.
"Did not need to know that!" Richard rubs his eyes wearily.
"Yes, thank you all for pointing that out." Derek raises his eyebrows.
"So, how do we need to help?" Cristina asks quickly.
Derek and Meredith smile in thanks at the change in topic. "Well, anything really. If you see Meredith getting too tired and she doesn't notice it, check her. Karev, if they want scans, get them up there. Watch the other three if Mer is exhausted and Derek is at work." Owen explains.
"Definitely." April adds.
"Absolutely, guys. Now, can I finally give my congrats!" Callie squeals running to hug them tight. "Two more cute, squishy babies. I call babysitting dibs!"
"You will all get chances, Callie." Derek laughs.
"You can count on us." Richard smiles.
"Thanks, guys." Meredith says and holds her stomach.
"Alright, now, the kids don't know yet." Derek mentions. "We are telling them as Zola's last present."
"Aww!" April and Callie coo.
"Won't say a word, Shep." Alex smiles.
"Good. Now, Karev, take these two upstairs to the O.B waiting room. Addison should be there shortly." Owen commands.
The three exit as everyone gives one last wish of congratulations. "You mind if I stick with you through your appointment? I want to stay up to date." Alex asks.
"Sure." Meredith shrugs after looking at Derek. "It's mostly going to be the same as yesterday. Without the blood work."
"That's fine." Alex shrugs as they reach the waiting room.
Meredith sighs as she sits next to Derek. He wraps her completely in his arms, one hand resting on her stomach. She cuddles into his neck and grips the hand on her stomach. "Do you have any surgeries?" Meredith asks.
"Hmm, two. But, I won't be late for Bailey." Derek chuckles.
"I know." Meredith giggles. "If you want, if your surgery goes late, I will take it. You take Amy's car with Bailey's seat and I will take our car."
"We'll see. One surgery is at ten and the other at 12:30. Should be fine. Don't you have surgery?"
"Yes, but part of me feels like I should bank hours." Meredith muses.
"I thought you understood when I said take it easy!" Comes a voice behind them.
"Addison, you're here!" Derek turns with surprise. Not expecting her to walk up silently behind them.
They stand and turn more to face Addison. "Yes, I didn't mean to surprise you like that." Addison smiles in her black, patent leather shoes. She's wearing a soft black sweater with a thin, black pencil skirt. Her hair is pulled up into a loose bun. "I just got worried when you said that you felt like you needed to do more now." She looks pointedly at Meredith.
"Oh." Meredith blushes. "I… I um didn't mean it like that. Not long surgeries or multiple in a row." She rambles, making Derek and Alex smirk.
"Relax, Meredith. I know." Addison chuckles, and pats her shoulder.
"You do?" Meredith whispers and Addison nods with a smile. "Oh… Oh… Oh! Okay!" Meredith smiles weakly. "Derek?" She looks up at him and whispers.
He is smiling at her and kisses her head. "I know what you meant, Mer. She knows. Don't worry, you're only six and a half weeks. You can work." Derek says as he brushes her chin, stroking her lip.
"Guys, I'm sorry to freak you out. Really." Addison apologizes.
"It's okay, Addie." Derek smiles.
"Yeah. I know you understand. I really don't actually want to do long surgeries anymore in general." Meredith adds finally as she cuddles into her husband.
"Good. Now, come, let's see those special little babies." Addison smiles and leads them into the exam room.
"I'm going to sit in as well." Alex adds as he steps in before Addison who had been holding the door.
"Sure, Dr. Karev, come on inside." She gestures to an empty stool. "Okay guys, you know the drill. We will step right out here." Addison says before she and Alex step to the opposite end of the room and close the curtain.
"We're going to see our babies again, Der!" Meredith coos as she pushes down her scrubs.
"Yes." Derek hums smoothly. "I can't wait!" He takes her cheeks and kisses her lips. "Hmm!" He moans loudly.
"Dude!" Alex calls from the other side of the curtain. Derek and Meredith smirk, holding hands before Derek helps Meredith sit down and get covered. "We're ready."
"Excellent." Addison says as she pushes the curtains away. "Let's take a look!" She watches them and pulls up a stool. As she grabs the transducer, she begins giving her typical information. "So, you know if they are actually monoamniotic- monochorionic, they will be identical and the same sex?"
"Yes." Meredith and Derek nod. Meredith squirms into Derek as Addison gently inserts the probe. Derek comforts her by pulling her against his chest as he sits on the table besides her. Squeezing her hand, reminding her that he's there.
"Sorry… One second…" Addison looks at the high resolution ultrasound. Her face lights up with a bright smile a moment later. "There!" She points to the screen. "Hi, baby Grey-Shepherd's."
"Oh!" Meredith whimpers with overflowing hormones as Derek hugs her against him. His arm is tight around her shoulders as he grips her hand more. Derek is kissing her head repeatedly as they stare at the two grainy blobs on the screen.
"Look." Addison points to the lines at the bottom of the screen. "Two heartbeats. I don't think we can hear them quite yet. It's still early."
"Mer! Mer!" Derek gasps as they see. His blue eyes fill with tears as he looks at the screen. Their two children safely growing away. He doesn't care who is in the room as he pulls her closer and kisses her all over. Meredith freely crying happy tears. "Thank you!" He whispers into his wife's ear.
"Derek! Oh!" Meredith breathes as she throws her arms around his neck.
"Congratulations, guys." Addison says softly.
"Thanks. I know we saw them yesterday, but just seeing the heartbeats makes it that much more real." Meredith murmurs hoarsely, wiping tears from her eyes.
"That's understandable. I'm printing a picture and you definitely have MoMo twins by the way." Addison states as they look at the screen with more smiles. "Good news though, your two seem to have spread out a bit so they aren't that close together."
"Good job, guys. Already listening to daddy." Derek strokes the screen.
"Keep working hard." Meredith says as Addison takes measurements. She copies Derek and strokes each grey blob.
"Here guys." She hands them a copy each. Meredith and Derek coo with excitement as they stare at the picture.
"Mer, they look like you." Derek laughs.
"What?! Derek, how can you possibly tell?! We've had two other kids and you can't tell for a while.
"I just know." Derek shrugs and kisses her lips as Meredith and Addison roll their eyes.
"Alright." Addison breathes as she places the probe down. She places her hands on Meredith's knees and looks them firmly in the eye. "I'm going to tell you these next few things to show you that I will keep either your two boys or two girls safe in there." Addison says strongly. She takes a deep breath and begins. "In 1994 I delivered my first set of MoMo twins at 25 weeks. They are thriving in college now. In 1996, I delivered two sets. One at thirty weeks, the other at 27 weeks. I heard they are starting college. In 1999, I delivered a set at thirty-one weeks and that is the latest I've gotten. That's pretty average for twins to be early anyway. In 2001, 2002 and 2005 I delivered two sets each of those years at about 29 weeks. All alive and well despite little bumps."I delivered a set in 2010 and 2011. One at 23 weeks and one at 21 weeks. I just heard from their parents. They are loving kindergarten and first grade." Addison smiles as she pats Meredith's legs. "I expect a lot more details from you guys by then. Like, how your boys act exactly like this one." She gestures to Derek who is openly crying. "Or how your girls are wrapped around his fingers because they are exactly like their mama." Addison grabs Meredith's hand as if to encourage her.
"Thanks, Addison." Meredith says quietly.
"My pleasure, Meredith." Addison looks at her firmly. "Now go, finish your day. I'm going to pick up some cases. I will see you tomorrow."
"Thank you, Addie." Derek moves to hug her.
"I will keep Mer safe too." Addison whispers for only Derek.
"Thank you!" Derek chokes and hugs her tightly.
"I appreciate you asking me. Especially after our history." Addison blushes.
"It's water under the… Bridge or whatever." Meredith smiles. "Just make sure you come to us for any neurological problems."
"Hopefully I won't need to, but if I have to I will." Addison smirks as she opens the door.
"See you later, Mer." Alex nods and follows out the door after Meredith waves.
Once the door closes, Meredith turns to Derek in awe. "It's official, Derek! Twins! Completely identical!"
"I know, Mer! I am still in shock." Derek squeezes her hands as he looks into her eyes. "How are you holding up with the high risk?"
Meredith stands and pulls up her pants and adjusts her scrubs. She breathes heavy, in and out. "I'm… Okay. I mean I wish it would be easier, but I know that I have enough people to help."
"Oh Mer!" Derek coos with a large smile and grabs her cheeks to kiss her lips. "That's right." He kisses her over and over.
"I love you, Derek." She beams and hugs him, her arms slipping around him.
"I love you too, Mer." He squeezes her close and kisses her head. "Come on, let's go work." Derek sighs after a moment of peace.
"Fine." Meredith rolls her eyes playfully making Derek laugh loudly as they walk out the door. Grabbing Derek's hand, she leads their walk to the elevator. When they step onto the elevator Meredith leans back against the wall while Derek copies her and holds her hand. He notices that she seems deep in thought.
"Mer?" Derek turns and kisses her cheek when she doesn't respond. "Mer?" He calls again.
"Huh? What? Oh, sorry!" Meredith startles and shakes her head. She smiles at Derek and squeezes his hand. Humming as she kisses him.
"You okay?" Derek says, brushing her hair back.
"Yes, just thinking."
"About what?" Derek says, pulling the stop button. He wraps his arms around her waist.
"Names… For the babies…" She giggles.
"Really?!" Derek says in pure shock and amazement.
"Should I not?" Meredith pulls back but Derek pulls her right back to him.
"Meredith! Yes!" He laughs happily. "I am so glad!" Derek has a proud smile. "What we're you considering?"
"Well… For a boy… Or one of the boys…" She begins her ramble. Meredith hesitates, not sure what Derek would think. Biting her lips, she starts. "I was thinking… Since he meant so much to you and… And… And we named two of our kids after people we love already. That maybe… We should name one of the boys, if they are… Ummm… Mark?" Meredith says carefully and looks away. Derek is at a loss for words. His wife just had the perfect idea. Name one of their son's after his brother who, she was right, meant so much to him. "It's stupid, I know. I'm sorry." Meredith says as she stares at the elevator wall. She doesn't see Derek's happy, goofy, lopsided grin.
"Meredith!" He says as he lifts her up in a large hug. "Thank you! I love it! I love it!" Derek laughs.
"You do?!" She gasps.
"I do, Mer! I can't believe I didn't consider it!" Derek cups her cheeks and kisses her hard. "Damn, I love you!" He laughs with euphoria.
Meredith giggles as she throws her arms around his neck. "Well, you just miss him so much. He was your brother who should be here to corrupt our kids." She giggles as Derek swings her around.
"Just like Lexie should be here for them as well." Derek says knowingly.
"So… Now we have a Lexie and a Mark again!" Meredith laughs.
"We will if they are boys."
"True." Meredith laughs and kisses Derek.
"How about, for a middle name… Christopher? After my dad?" Derek asks, still holding her.
Meredith gasps. "I love it!" She giggles. "It's after you too." She notes.
"That is true." He laughs. "Mark Christopher Grey-Shepherd." Derek says as he pats Meredith's stomach. She giggles as she watches Derek rub her stomach while grinning like mad.
"Did we just name one of you two?" Meredith coos as she looks down before Derek presses the go button to start the elevator.
"I hope so!" Derek beams as they walk off the elevator. "We need to think of girl names also."
"Hmm, we do. But at least we have one." Meredith adds as they head to start work. Anxious to get home and be together.

"Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!" Bailey screams hours later as Derek and Meredith walk down the hall towards daycare.
"Woah, sweetie, do you see your parents?" One of the older daycare workers says as she comes up to the window where Bailey was stationed. Looking out the window where he could see Meredith and Derek walk down the hall in their home clothes holding hands. She stabilizes him as he almost tumbles backwards.
"Yeah! I'm so excited! I'm so excited!" He bounces and jumps off of the big cushion he was sitting on to see out the window. Bailey is so eager you could hear him running out of breath with excitement. The door opens and in walk Meredith and Derek. "DADDY!" Bailey screams making kids and adults turn their heads to look.
"Woah!" Derek gasps as Bailey jumps as he slams into him, hugging his waist and locking his legs around Derek's. So that he is hanging off of the floor. "Hi, buddy." He laughs as he pries him up to lift him into his arms.
"Daddy." He coos as he squeezes his neck.
"Someone is excited to see you." The same daycare worker says as she comes over with Lexie. "She's all changed." She explains as she hands her to Meredith.
"Thanks." Meredith says while taking the baby. "Hi, Lex." She kisses the baby softly. "Bailey is learning how to ride a bike today. That's why he is like this." She explains with a giggle as the worker looks for an explanation as they see Derek and Bailey in an immense conversation as Bailey curls into him. Resting his head on Derek's shoulder.
"Oh, how fun!" She says before waving and leaving.
"Hi, mama! I waited and waited by the window for you!" Bailey says from Derek's arms.
"You did?! Well, we were right on time." She coos and ruffles Bailey's hair, kissing his cheek.
"Let's go get Zola and then go home." Derek says as Meredith kisses Lexie.
"Daddy, my bike has no little wheels, right?" Bailey asks as he watches Derek start moving the car a little later.
"Right, bud. It's a big boy bike." Derek says a bit later while they drive out of the hospital parking lot.
"Wow!" Bailey's mouth forms a little "O" shape.
Meredith looks at the folded paper in her hands. "It could be two more Bailey's." She looks up from the sonogram at Derek.
"That would be amazing. But, so would two Lexie's or Zola's." Derek says as he squeezes Meredith's thigh. His heart soaring more at the thought of two more of any of the kids. "Just as long as they have your giggle.
"Oh, Derek!" Meredith rubs his cheek and giggles.
"My favorite sound." He coos as he pulls into the car line at Zola's school.
"Daddy, what kind of bike did you have when you was little?"
"I had a blue bike with skinny wheels. It had a cool bell and a place for my water bottle. When I was your age though, I had a superman bike."
"Cool! Did your daddy teach you?"
"He did!" Derek smiles at Meredith as Bailey giggles and smiles at Derek.
"Hi!" Zola squeals suddenly as she opens the door and jumps inside.
"Hi, love bug!" Meredith turns to look at her daughter.
"Hi, daddy, hi, Bailey, hi, Lex." She coos before sitting in her booster seat.
"Zola! I'm riding my bike today!" Bailey chimes again as Derek begins driving home. Bailey continues to explain everything from what his bike looks like to when he was going to tell Derek to let him ride by himself. He is not even fazed by their beautiful ferryboat ride
Meredith holds Derek's hand as they listen. Sharing smiles and laughs. During the ferry ride, Derek rubs Meredith's stomach serenely as he stares into her eyes. When they finally arrive home, Bailey is still chatting away. "At this rate, I hope it goes well for all of our sake." Derek whispers to Meredith with a laugh.
"Me too." She giggles and opens the door. "Come on, Lex."
"Hi, mama!" Lexie hugs Meredith.
"You ready for girl time?" Meredith kisses the baby's nose and takes Zola's hand.
"It's fun, Lex." Zola giggles as they walk inside. Following Derek and Bailey.
"What do you want for dinner, Zo? Remember how Bailey got to choose on your day?" Derek asks.
"Pizza!" Her hands go up and she rocks back and forth.
"Guess I'm doing dinner then." Meredith laughs as she sits on the floor with Lexie.
"Hmm, as long as it's vegetables." Derek notes as he looks at Meredith's stomach.
"I know." She rolls her eyes and smirks at him. "Oh! I got vitamins today, too." Meredith adds as an afterthought.
"Hmm, good." Derek hums as he bends down to kiss Meredith's head. He reaches for Lexie's hand as she sits next to Meredith and reaches her hand up to him. Derek makes a silly face at the baby before standing.
"Ready, daddy!" Bailey calls as he runs out in sweatpants and a thermal Henley. His light up fire truck shoes flashing as he runs.
"Okay, buddy! Time to ride your bike!" Derek says happily as he watches Bailey grip his hand and jump beside him.
"Have fun, Bails!" Meredith coos and waves at her son.
"Okay, mama!" He says while pulling Derek to the door.
"I guess we're going." Derek chuckles. He looks back at Meredith with a heat filled gaze as he is pulled by Bailey.
"Let's go, daddy!" Bailey says as he tries to open the door.
"We're going." Derek chuckles as he smiles at his son. Meredith giggles as she watches her boys leave. Again, having flashes of three boys, one significantly older than the other two, pushing Derek outside to play baseball or fish.
"Mama?" Zola pulls her out of a trance. "I wish I could ride my bike today, but daddy said to let Bails have his day."
Meredith turns to her oldest with a smile. "That's nice of you, ZoZo." She says as Lexie climbs up her arm, vying for attention. The girls get wrapped up in books and a puzzle while the boys get to work outside.
"Here's your bike, Bailey!" Derek says as he rolls the Hot Wheels bike over to Bailey. The boy was standing on the grass with his new Paw Patrol helmet on his head, covering his blonde hair so that it was almost in his eyes. The helmet looked as if it was going to cover his entire head. His matching knee pads and elbow pads protecting him more, almost swallowing his little body. Derek pauses to watch as his son scrambles towards his bike, trying to climb and explore. He smiles so proudly as he relishes that he finally has this moment. The day that his dad taught him to ride a bike was one of his fondest memories and he was ecstatic to teach his son. His son that was a mini clone of the love of his life.
"Ready, daddy!" Bailey smiles up at Derek.
"Okay, buddy!" Derek pats his helmet, gently moving it side to side. "So. I am going to hold the handle and the back of the seat. Step on the pedal and push up to get on the seat."
Bailey looks in between the bike and Derek. "Okay…" He says, suddenly hesitant, biting his lip.
"It's okay, Bailey. I've got you." Derek rubs his back as he talks in a soothing voice he reserves for when Meredith is scared.
"You do?" Bailey looks up at him with the widest blue eyes. Derek nods and pats his back in encouragement.
"Of course." Derek whispers. Bailey takes a deep breath and places his foot on the pedal. He grips the handles right next to Derek's hand. "Kick your leg over." Derek says calmly.
"Woah." Bailey whimpers as he feels the bike shake as he balances on one foot.
"You got this, buddy!" Derek breathes as Bailey swings his leg over and sits on the bike. "You did it!" Derek cheers.
"I did! I'm sitting on my bike!" Bailey giggles as he squeezes the handles and tries to push the pedals. "Go! Go! Go!" He calls. Derek laughs as he pushes forward, making Bailey start pedaling.
"Good job, Bailey!" Derek cheers as they ride down the path.
"Yay! Yay!" Bailey squeals with delight. A bit more farther, Bailey takes a deep breath. "Let go, daddy!"
Just like with Zola, Derek was shocked and nervous. Not wanting to let go quite yet. "You sure?"
"Yes! Now!"
"Alright." Derek laughs. "One, two, three!" He counts and let's go.
"Woah! Woah!" Bailey squeals and wobbles a bit.
"Pedal! Pedal!" Derek calls as Bailey stops pedaling. But it's too late, Bailey looses his balance and falls to the side.
"No!" Bailey moans as he falls and the bike hits him.
"Bailey!" Derek gasps and runs over. He tries not to look afraid as he pulls the bike off of him. "You're okay… You're okay…" Derek gasps as he stands Bailey and gently grips his arms. One hand feels Bailey's body while the other holds him steady.
"I'm okay, daddy." He says strongly.
"Let me just check you, bud." Derek muses as he cups Bailey's cheeks and looks into his eyes. He then tries to check to make sure Bailey didn't hit his head. Doing a Neuro check.
"Can we try again, now?!" Bailey moans after Derek checks him again.
"You… Want to try again?!" Derek gasps.
"Yeah! I gotta learn to ride my bike!" Bailey says seriously. He walks to his bike and pulls. "Let's do it!"
"Okay." Derek smiles at his son's look of determination. He lifts the bike and helps Bailey get on the seat.
"Ready, daddy! You can let go now!" Bailey says after Derek pushes him for a few minutes.
"Are you sure?" Derek asks with hesitation. Bailey nods vigorously. Derek slowly starts counting and then let's go of the bike.
"I… I… I… Uh oh!" Bailey cries as he wobbles a bit and then falls again.
"Bailey!" Derek runs faster this time. He lifts Bailey up and begins frantically checking him.
"Daddy, I'm okay! Let's try again!" Bailey says firmly.
"Maybe I should hold on longer buddy."
"No! I can do it!" Bailey says determined. Reluctantly, Derek sighs and helps Bailey start riding again a third time. He rides a little further without Derek this time until he looses his balance. "Woah!" Bailey screams as he falls, this time his wrist scraping the pavement. "Ouch." He whimpers as he looks at his wrist while laying on the ground.
"What happened? What happened?!" Derek asks frantically as he pulls Bailey to his feet. His eyes are wide as he takes in his son's messed up helmet, sweaty cheeks and dirty clothes.
"I scraped my arm." Bailey says as he shows Derek.
"Oh, buddy. It's okay." He smiles softly as he looks over the scrape. It's very minimal and no blood can be seen. "Bailey." Derek says as he takes Bailey's shoulders in his hands. "I'm very proud of you for keeping trying, but maybe we should take a break?" His stomach is lurching in fear that his son will get more hurt. His heart and brain filling with the need to keep him safe.
"NO! No, daddy!" Bailey stomps his foot and glares at Derek.
"Are you sure?" Derek asks, his eyebrows raised.
"Yes!" Bailey nods.
"Okay, Bails. Let's do this." Derek smirks and holds up his hand. Bailey smiles and gives him a high five, making his helmet shake. After Derek fixes his helmet, they try again. Bailey falls again a fourth, fifth and sixth time
"Again, daddy!" Bailey calls, more determined then the dirt and grass off his clothes and face. Some of the dirt smearing on his sweat stained cheeks. Derek kneels and hugs Bailey close, kissing his cheek.
"It's getting dark, Bailey." Derek chuckles.
"One more time!" Bailey glares and puts his hand on his hip.
Derek stares into his son's eyes as he puts up a fight. He tries desperately to hold back his laugh when he realizes that his son is just as determined as his mother. However, just like with Meredith, he cannot say no. He agrees to once more and helps Bailey onto his bike. "Here we go!" He says as he helps Bailey pedal. "You're doing great, buddy! I'm so proud of you!" Derek coos.
"I'm doing it!" Bailey cheers as Derek guides him. "Let go!" He says as the sunlight almost completely fades. Derek takes a deep breath and kisses Bailey's cheek. He counts to three and let's go of the bike.
"Oh… Oh… Wee!" Bailey says as he wobbles a little and realizes that he is doing it. "Look at me! Look at… Uh oh!" He shouts as he looses his balance as his tire hits a large pebble in the drive. Bailey falls to the ground and skids a little, scraping his arm and leg through his pants. Derek runs quickly over to him as he lays on the ground. "Daddy…" He whimpers, tears just now falling."
"You're okay, bud. That was a much better one." Derek pulls him into a hug. He kisses him all over, feeling Bailey's sweaty cheeks.
"I got hurt." Bailey shows him his arm and lifts his leg.
"It's okay, Bailey. That happens. Why don't we go inside and get clean. I think mama probably has ordered pizza."
"No! No!" Bailey stomps and wipes his nose. "I gotta learn today!"
"Bails, it's dark. We can try again tomorrow."
"Uh uh!" Bailey crosses his arms and shakes his head.
"Let's go get cleaned up, bud." Derek says calmly.
"No, daddy!" He screams.
"Bailey, you're going to get more hurt if we keep going."
"Nuh uh!" He shakes his head.
"Yes, Bailey. Come on, let's go inside. You did so good, we will try again tomorrow."
"No! I won't eat. I won't sleep til I ride my bike."
"Hmm, you are just like your mother." He mutters as Bailey glares at Derek. His hands on his hips.
"I wanna ride!" Bailey yells.
"Not if you yell like that." Derek warns.
"Please, let me ride again." Bailey smirks. This time using his little mini-Derek smile.
"It's dark, Bailey."
"Ugh!" Bailey stomps. "I wanna practice! Ow!" He gasps as he realized that he stomped the hurt leg.
"Oh, Bails. Let's get that cut cleaned." Derek coos and sweeps Bailey into his arms.
"No! No! No! No! No!" Bailey yells and kicks the whole time that Derek walks to the door. He wriggles and tries to get down as Derek tries to open the door.
"What the?!" Meredith gasps as she watches Derek struggle to keep Bailey inside. "What happened?!" She says as she sees Bailey sweaty, covered in dirt, pants torn and a couple of scrapes on his arms.
"He fell every single time after riding on his own for a couple minutes. Your son wants to keep going in the dark." Derek smirks.
"My son?!" Meredith gasps.
"He is determined." Derek laughs. "Just like you. I love it." He adds as Meredith walks over. "I can't say no anymore… Can you do it?" He leans in and whispers to Meredith.
"Seriously?!" Meredith swats at Derek.
"Look at the face." He points to Bailey who stood with his arms crossed. Staring at his parents. It was like watching Meredith glaring at her interns.
Meredith sighs and goes to Bailey. She kneels down and holds him close. "Bails, I heard you worked so hard tonight. It's okay if we wait until tomorrow. Daddy and I are so proud of you."
"I wanna learn today!"
Meredith stares at him. Neither of them giving in until Meredith has an idea. "Baby, why don't you and daddy turn on the porch light and practice on the porch?" She suggests. "But, when the pizza comes, you're all done."
"I like that idea, bud." Derek adds.
Bailey looks between his parents. "Okay!" He coos sweetly. "Thanks, mama!"
"You're welcome, buddy." Meredith hugs him tight. "It's easy to forget how to reason when you look at him." She stands and murmurs to her husband.
"Yes." Derek nods as Bailey hugs Meredith's legs. "Did you order yet?"
"I was about to when you came inside."
"Hmm, why don't you order and then bring the girls outside?"
"Hmm, I like that idea." Meredith hums as she wraps her arms around Derek. She rests her head on his chest, rubbing slowly. Derek hugs her tight, bending to inhale her intoxicating scent.
"How do you feel?" He kisses her head and asks.
"A little tired and my boobs are a little sore. But, I'm okay and apparently already craving things because I really want the sauce from Antonio's and when I decided to order from there, I remembered that they have the best garlic buns. So I'm going to order those." Meredith muses as she cuddles into Derek.
"Oh, Mer." Derek coos as he drifts his hand to her stomach. "Get whatever you three want." He smiles as Meredith looks up at him.
"Thanks, Derek." She says before seeing Bailey looking pointedly at them. "Oh, you have someone waiting." Giggles Meredith.
"Hmm, I do." Derek smirks as he looks up from looking longingly at Meredith. "Ready, bud?" He asks and Bailey nods eagerly. "Mama and your sisters are going to come watch after they order pizza."
"Yay! Maybe they will be my lucky charms!" Bailey smiles widely.
"Yeah, Bailey! We are!" Zola says as she was listening from where she was laying over the couch.
"Perfect!" Derek says as Meredith giggles and walks to get the phone.
"We will be there in a few minutes." She says as Derek and Bailey turn on the porch light and walk outside.
"Okay, bud. Let me go get your bike. I am so proud of you for trying so hard." Derek kisses his cheek before walking down the steps. When he comes back up with the bike, Bailey is jumping with excitement. "Here we go, Bailey!" Derek says. "Let me clear a path." He runs, as Bailey holds his bike, to move a couple of tables out of the way. When he gets back, Derek bends down to talk to Bailey. "Buddy, if you feel shaky, put your foot down to catch yourself." He hugs Bailey and whispers "you can do this, I know you can" into his ear.
"I will, daddy!" Bailey nods.
"I'm going to stay on the side of the railing so you don't run into it, okay?"
"Yeah." He replies as Derek steadies the bike. Bailey takes a deep breath and gets on his bike once more. Derek starts slowly, moving around the house two times before Bailey takes a deep breath. "Ready, daddy."
"You got this." Derek says as Meredith opens the door and walks outside with the girls. He smirks at her, eyeing her chest making her giggle before turning back to Bailey. Derek counts and Bailey can only focus on his bike as Derek lets him ride. Bailey moves slowly past where Meredith was sitting with Lexie and Zola, completely concentrating on riding. He goes a little farther before he wobbles a bit. Derek's breath catches as he watches Bailey catch his fall with his foot. Meredith gasps from her spot as she holds Lexie and Zola close. Bailey turns and looks at Derek, shocked. He hasn't gone that far so Derek walks up and grabs only the handle bars.
"Daddy!" Bailey whispers in shock.
"Keep going, buddy." Is all that Derek says and Bailey rebalances himself. As soon as Bailey pushes the pedals, Derek lets him ride. His eyes fill with happy tears as Bailey finally pushes his bike and finally gets his balance stable. Bailey rides his bike along the porch going all the way around. Past Meredith and his sisters as Derek follows him.
"Look at me, mama! Look at me!" Bailey squeals as he goes around a second time.
"You did it, Bailey! You did it!" Meredith cheers as he moves to go a third time.
"Bailey you're doing it, buddy!" Derek cheers as he laughs with joy.
"Daddy! Daddy! I did! I did!" Bailey squeals as he manages to stop. Derek beams at Meredith who was covering her mouth as she laughed out of pure shock and happiness.
"Look, Zo, Bailey rode his bike!" She points.
"Yay, Bay!" Zola cheers as Bailey runs into Derek's opened arms.
"You did it! You did it!" Derek coos as he grips his little boy against him, cradling Bailey's head into his neck as Bailey wraps Derek in a gridlock. Bailey laughs ecstatically as Derek sways them back and forth. His blue eyes filled with pride. "I am so proud of you!" He says as he kisses Bailey's head.
Meredith walks up to them and rubs Bailey's back, kissing his cheek. "I am so proud of you!" She coos as she kisses him.
"Mama!" He coos as he reaches for her while remaining with Derek. He wants a hug from both of his parents. Derek wraps both of them into a hug. They feel two more sets of arms around their legs. Looking down, Derek sees Zola and Lexie joining in on the group hug. Suddenly, Derek gets a flash of two more little girls next to them. Identical with Meredith's green eyes and blonde hair. A new batch of happy tears threatens to fall as he leans back to look at his wife smiling at her son and then seeing her move her hand to rub Zola's hair. She moves to look at Lexie who was now clapping as Zola was cheering for Bailey. Derek is unable to resist hugging them all close again.
"I think we need ice cream to celebrate." Derek says as he looks at Meredith and the kids in his arms.
"Hmm, after pizza, garlic rolls and… bruschetta." Meredith giggles.
"Craving?" Derek whispers as the kids cheer. Even Lexie claps when she hears that pizza is coming.
"Yes." Meredith giggles as Derek kisses her cheek.
"Hmm, I love their bruschetta. Hope you got enough for me." Derek adds.
"Of course, Der." She says, stepping back and taking his hand.
"Good! Now, Bailey, let's get those cuts washed and at least your face and hands washed." Derek bounces him.
"Okay, daddy." Bailey says as he cuddles into Derek.
"Come on girls, let's go get plates. Dinner should be here soon." Meredith lifts Lexie and leads Zola inside. She can hear Bailey happily chatting about how happy he was with his riding to Derek. When the food arrives, they all eat in front of the fireplace, relaxing and talking about Zola and Bailey's new skill along with Zola's birthday in two days. Later that night, Meredith and Derek celebrate once more before falling asleep beyond happy.
MDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMDMD
Saturday morning the door to Meredith and Derek's room creaks open slowly. There is very little sunlight peeking through the curtains as Zola makes her way into the room. She stops at the foot of the bed and climbs so that she is kneeling on the bench at the foot of the bed. With her lion in her arms she watches her parents sleep. Meredith is cuddled into Derek's chest as he has her wrapped in his arms. His head resting on hers. Zola smiles as she crawls onto the bed. When she realizes that she cannot squeeze in between her parents, she lays right on top of them. One arm wrapped around Meredith and the other around Derek. "Mama! Daddy!" She calls as she rests her chin on their chests.
Derek stirs first and Meredith reaches for him. "Hmm…" Derek moans, kissing Meredith on her forehead.
"Hi, hi!" Zola chirps as she watches her parents wake.
"Hi, love bug." Meredith coos as she opens her eyes.
"Morning, birthday princess." Derek says quietly with a smile.
"Happy birthday, ZoZo." Meredith says as she strokes the girl's cheeks. She moves to sit up, making Derek groan at loosing contact. Derek sits up as well as he pulls both girls close. He rests his hand on Zola's chest and kisses her head.
"Happy birthday, Zo." Derek smiles as she cuddles with both of them. Her head resting on Meredith's chest and her hand gripping Derek's pajama bottoms as he was not wearing a shirt.
"Thanks." She hums and wiggles into them.
"I can't believe you're six already, love bug." Meredith muses as she plays with the tiny braids in her hair.
"I'm a big girl!"
"Yes, you are." Derek agrees as he shares a look with Meredith.
"What time is my party?"
"Two, love bug." Derek says as he strokes Zola's hair.
"Aww!" She moans.
"It will be here before you know it." Meredith reminds.
"I know, but it's forever!" Zola gasps.
"Well, I have to bring the cake over at one, so we really have to be there at one." Derek adds.
"That's a little better." Zola muses.
"How about, I make breakfast and you and Bailey can go for a bike ride while mama and I push Lexie on her bike?"
"Ya!" Zola exclaims.
"Okay, what would you like?"
"Blueberry pancakes and cinnamon rolls, daddy!"
"Hmm, okay." He kisses her head. "Why don't you go wake up your brother? Mama and I will meet you in the kitchen." Zola agrees and scrambles out of bed, leaving Meredith giggling.
"She is so excited." Meredith giggles more as Derek moves to hover over her.
"She is…" He kisses her slowly, pushing his tongue inside her mouth, making her moan in delight. One hand roaming her body.
"I needed her out though, so I could do that." Derek laughs, making Meredith follow as she cups his cheeks. "Also, so that I could do this." He moves lower and pushes her tank up under her breasts. "Good morning, babies." Derek kisses her stomach twice. Meredith beams as she listens to him talk to their two unborn children. "We are so glad to hear you are still doing good." He mentions their appointment the day before. "Hopefully in two weeks when we have another check, we will be able to hear your heartbeats. Although I don't think mama or I want to wait two weeks."
"I know I will make daddy take me upstairs almost every day." Meredith giggles as her hands join Derek's on her stomach.
"I will do it." Derek laughs as he kisses her stomach twice. "Babies, we have to go get ready for your sister's birthday. We are telling them about you guys today. But, we will talk again soon." He giggles as he watches Meredith stroke her skin peacefully.
"We will. They will be so excited." Meredith smiles. "We all are."
"Mer…" Derek muses as he kisses her head. She lifts her head and smiles at him. "Let's go get the kids." He strokes her cheek and then stands.
"I'll get Lexie, you start breakfast." Meredith says as they walk out the door. They peek into the kitchen area and already see Bailey and Zola sitting at the bar. Waiting for Derek. She walks into Lexie's room and sees the baby sitting up, playing with her bunny and one of her teddy bears in her crib.
"Mama!" She smiles as she hears Meredith. Her messy curls shaking in her face as her head goes back.
"Hi, baby. Good morning." Meredith coos and lifts her up for a hug. "It's Zola's birthday. Let's change your diaper and go say happy birthday." She carries her over to the changing table. Meredith smiles at Lexie as she stretches on the changing table. Kicking her legs and then trying to turn to the side. "Don't go anywhere!" She laughs as Lexie finds it funny that Meredith has to keep pulling her down. "Remind me to tell daddy we may need to start potty training soon." She muses as she snaps the last button on her pink jammies. Tickling Lexie's feet, she lifts her into her arms. Kissing the black curls that now reached her chin and were as soft as Derek's. They walk out to see Derek working on the pancakes and Meredith smells the cinnamon rolls in the oven and sausage on the stove.
"Mama!" Zola cheers when she sees Meredith. "Daddy made the pancakes shaped like Cinderella with the cookie cutter!"
"They're so cool!" Bailey coos as he reaches out for Meredith. "Hug, mama!"
"Hi, Bay." Meredith hugs him and kisses his head. "Those look great." Meredith muses as she looks at them and notices Derek's heated gaze.
"ZoZo!" Lexie reaches when she sees her sister.
"Lexie!" Zola hugs her as Meredith brings her over.
"Lex, say happy birthday." Meredith coaxes.
"Hap, hap!" Lexie claps.
"Aww!" Zola coos. "Thanks, Lex!"
Derek shares a smile with Meredith and turns off the grill. He hands Meredith her coffee. "Sit, Mer."
"Daddy said we're gonna go for a bike ride after breakfast!" Bailey says as Meredith buckles Lexie in her seat and sits next to Zola.
"We are. All of us." Meredith brushes Zola's braids.
"I can't wait." Derek smiles as he places the first plate in front of Zola. "Happy birthday, Princess!"
"Daddy!" Zola claps as she looks down at the two blueberry pancakes shaped like Cinderella. She squeals more when he places the cinnamon roll in front of her.
"Awesome!" Bailey shouts as he sees his. Lexie looks between her pancakes and Derek's curiously. She points to it and smiles before picking it up and eating it.
"These are incredible, Derek." Meredith says as she takes her's and Derek sits on the other side of Zola. She moans as she takes a bite of the cinnamon roll. Leaving some frosting on her lips.
"Mer… Mer…" Derek chokes as he stares at her. Gripping his fork as the desire pours through his veins.
"Tonight, Der." Meredith giggles and slowly licks the frosting off of her lips.
"Can't wait." His eyes are dark with lust and reaches over Zola to brush hair behind Meredith's ear with a smirk. When the birthday breakfast was done, they all cleaned up to go for a bike ride and mini hike before getting ready for the party.
"It's time to go! It's time to go!" Zola jumps up and down a few hours later. Meredith had just finished getting her dressed in her light blue "I'm the birthday princess" shirt with Cinderella on the front and sparkly, light blue jeans. She has on her clear slippers with a picture of Cinderella on the toe.
"That's right, love bug. Cake is in the car." Derek smirks as Zola runs to him.
"Please can I see it, daddy?" She moans as he lifts her up into the air. Meredith has a flashback to when he first did that when she was a baby.
"Not yet, love bug."
"Aww!" She moans.
"Not much longer, Zo." Meredith coos as she kisses Zola's cheek as Derek holds her.
"Where are your brother and sister?" Derek asks.
"Bailey!" Meredith calls as if on cue. Lexie comes running out as well in her Cinderella and Prince Charming shirt after Bailey runs out in his white, long sleeved shirt that says "Future Prince Charming." It has a picture of the prince right below.
"Okay, now we're ready." Derek laughs as he grabs Meredith's hand. She giggles as she takes Lexie's hand and Zola and Bailey start to run outside. They jump into the car and attempt to peek at the cake under a box in the way back. After everyone is set inside and Derek gets prying hands away from his cake, they drive to the party center. Meredith brings the kids inside after Derek goes inside so that Zola doesn't try to sneak another peek at her cake.
"Mama, where's daddy?" Zola asks as they walk inside and sit on the plastic chairs of the party place.
"Making sure your party is perfect."
"Okay." She nods.
"When daddy comes back it will be time to see your cake, Zo." Meredith explains.
"Finally!" Zola and Bailey gasp.
"Lex, you gonna eat cake today?" Zola asks the baby who was cuddling her bunny rabbit. Biting it's ear.
"No!" She sticks out her tongue at Zola and goes back to chewing her rabbits ear.
"Lexie! Ya gotta like cake!" Bailey covers his face, making Meredith laugh loudly.
"More for you guys, buddy." Meredith pokes his belly, tickling him. She watches as Bailey's eyes move towards the figure coming behind her. Then, Meredith feels Derek place his hand on her shoulder.
"Zola?" He calls and rubs Meredith's back. His eyes meet her's and they share a soft, loving smile. "You ready?!" Derek asks with excitement.
"Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!" Zola bounces.
"We gets to see now?" Bailey asks as he and Lexie join.
"Yeah! Let's go." Derek can't contain his smile as he lifts Meredith to her feet. He wraps his arms around Meredith and kisses her cheek. "Zola is going to flip." He whispers.
"I can't wait." Meredith muses back as she watches Zola and Bailey jump excitedly. Derek guides Lexie as Zola and Bailey walk down the hall until they reach the door that says "Zola Grey-Shepherd birthday ball."
"Can you read the sign?" Derek asks.
"Yeah! It's my Ball, just like in Cinderella!" Zola claps.
"That's right, Princess." Derek says as he takes her hand. "Let's go." He smiles and Meredith lifts Lexie into her arms. Turning the handle slowly for effect, he watches Zola and Bailey shake with excitement.
"DADDY!" Zola gasps as she see's inside. Inside looked like an actual Cinderella ball.
"Oh, Derek." Meredith smiles at him as she looks around. Proudly squeezing his arms. Zola and Bailey walk in a trance forward. Their mouths open and fingers over them. There is a silver chandelier hanging from the middle of the ceiling. Light blue and white streamers are draped from the chandelier to the corners of the walls. There are sparkling lights shining all around in different shaped holograms. At one end is a dance floor with a DJ and a cardboard cutout of the Prince's Palace. There are tables set up in a row in the middle of the room. They have blue tablecloths and in the middle are cardboard Cinderella character cutouts. Next to the cut outs are pumpkins spray painted silver. Each guest has a water bottle with a silhouette of Cinderella wrapped around it. There are blue and silver balloons on each chair with a large Cinderella balloon on the birthday girl's chair. Each chair also has blue tulle tied around the center in a bow. Along the other walls are three tables. Behind each are pictures of Cinderella, Prince Charming and the Fairy Godmother. Above one table also had a sign saying "Happy Birthday, Zola!" That was the present table as there was already some presents on it and a rather large one in front of it. The second table was the shortest but longest and was set up to do crafts. The last table catches Zola's eye. It, like the other tables on the wall was covered in a tablecloth with Cinderella and her carriage all over it. There were empty serving trays with name plates next to them. A metal, silver carriage sat in the middle as well as pretend glass slippers on blue pillows. A garland of silhouette Cinderella's were strewn across the front. On the food table and the present table sat white vases with holes. They had tall, blue puff balls on a light blue stick as the decorations. An old time clock was sitting in the farthest corner of the room with two rocking chairs underneath.
"My cake!" Zola squeals and runs across the room to the cake and food table. Derek beams as he walks over with her and the others follow. Now uncovered, sat Zola's cake. "Wow! It's perfect, daddy! So, so, so perfect!" She stares up at Derek.
"You like it, Princess Zola?" Derek asks as he lifts her into a hug.
"Yes! Yes!" Zola giggles as she turns to look at her cake. It's shaped to look exactly like Cinderella's carriage. It's frosted blue and gold with pink curtains on the window. Derek even made chocolate molded horses and Gus Gus and decorated them with food coloring. Gus Gus was sitting on the back next to Zola's smaller Cinderella Barbie.
"We can eat this?!" Bailey exclaims.
"Absolutely." Derek smiles.
"Derek, how?!" Meredith gasps and sinks into his chest.
"I just did the cake and we ordered these cookies, remember? We also brought some of the decorations. They just put that with the rest." Derek kisses her head.
"I love this. Derek, look at Zola." Meredith points to Zola who was giggling like crazy as she looked around.
"Hmm, my princess deserves everything." Derek shrugs. "All of my girls do." He smiles and kisses both Meredith and Lexie. Then he pats Meredith's stomach as if to say "these girls too."
"They could be boys, Derek." Meredith reminds as if reading his mind. Derek just smirks and kisses Meredith on the lips softly.
"Mama, look!" Bailey points as doors on the side open. Different from where they came inside. Waiters bring trays and trays of food. There are sparkly cookies shaped like crowns and glass slippers. Pretzel wands with blue frosting and sparkly sugar. They bring out a bread bowl dip that looks like a carriage and place it next to the sign that says "Royal Carriage Dip." Then, they lay out "magical pumpkins" ;tangerines, "Cinderella's brooms"; pretzels with cheese sticks, "Bibbity, Bopity Boo! Kabobs"; fruit kabobs and "Glass Slipper Cupcakes" that have pretty lace wrapping and sparkly sugar. They leave a spot empty for "Gus and Jaques Cheese" which is the pizza and for the blue "Princess Punch." Zola gets excited over the picture of dancing Cinderella and the prince next to the spot for the punch. They notice a little extra treats area at the end of the table with sweets like "Drissella's beads" gum balls and "Carriage Wheels" powdered donuts. There were glass slippers filled with blue m and m's as well. The waiters smile at the family before exiting as they place the last items.
"Hello." Says a man, coming up behind them. They turn as he gets closer. "I'm Mr. Jones, party coordinator."
"Hi." Derek says as he reaches to shake his hand. He introduces everyone and Zola shyly cuddles into Derek's neck.
"Well, birthday girl, we have some fun things coming up for you. One of them is about to start." Mr. Jones smiles at Zola. She looks up at Derek, confused.
"Zo, I think some of your friends are already here." Derek explains.
"They are. So, the first part gets to start." Adds Mr. Jones. "Follow me." He leads them all to the door where the waiters went. "Wait here."
"Derek?" Meredith whispers as the man exits.
"Remember how we said we were going to do for Zola what Lexie got?" Derek whispers. Meredith nods for him to continue. "Well, they had this and they apparently do it really special for bigger kids. They didn't tell me much." The door opens, directing their attention to the doorway. Derek places Zola down next to Bailey. For a moment, all they see is dark. Suddenly, in walk two people. Bailey, Meredith and Derek's jaws drop.
"Hello, everyone." Cinderella waves.
"Cinderella! Prince Charming!" Zola jumps with so much excitement that she then runs over and hugs Cinderella.
"Oh, my!" Laughs the princess. "What is your name, sweetheart?"
"Princess Zola! I sawed you at Disney!"
"You did?!" Cinderella exclaims.
"Yeah! Who's watching your castle?!" Zola wonders.
"Oh, Princess Snow White and Princess Aurora are taking turns. I am here to help celebrate your special day!"
"Really?!"
"Yes and I brought my Prince." Cinderella says as she pats her Prince's arm.
Prince Charming kneels before Zola and takes her hand. "Happy birthday, beautiful princess." He kisses her hand. Zola giggles happily.
"On second thought, maybe this part wasn't a good idea." Derek mumbles under his breath.
"What?! Derek?!" Meredith whispers in shock as Bailey wanders over and Zola introduces him. Meredith turns to look at Derek glaring at the Prince as he shakes Bailey's hand and teaches him how to bow. "Wait… Are you jealous?!" She covers her mouth and puts Lexie down as Zola tugged at her sister's leg.
"No." Derek grumbles as he stares at the Prince.
"Oh! You totally are!" Meredith laughs. "Derek, they're actors." She whispers.
"Fine." Derek mumbles as he watches Lexie wave at Cinderella.
"Oh, my Derek." Meredith giggles again as she hugs Derek close. "I love you." She coos as she leans up to kiss him. "You just made our daughter the happiest kid on earth."
"Hmm, love you, too. We both did. You had the idea for Lex and we both wanted it for ZoZo." Derek hugs her back and kisses her head.
"Mama, daddy! Cinderella is gonna help me let my friends in now!" Zola runs over.
"I'm gonna help the Prince!" Bailey squeals. Making Derek squirm and Meredith laugh at his uneasiness.
"Let's go, Princess Zola. Your guests await. But, remember, when the clock strikes three, I must return to my castle." Cinderella reaches her hand for Zola.
"Okay!" Zola giggles and walks with Cinderella, the Prince and Bailey to the main doors. Derek lifts Lexie and follows them with Meredith hugging his waist.
"Ella!" Lexie points.
"Yeah, Cinderella is here. Just like Ariel visited you." Derek pats her back. He squeezes Meredith's arm tight as they watch the doors open.
"Sofia!" Zola squeals as she sees Callie, Arizona and Sofia first.
"Zola!" Sofia giggles as the two hug. She stands back and looks around and then at her mom's. "Mami, mama, look!"
"I see, baby. It's beautiful." Callie says.
"Look, Auntie Callie, Cinderella." Zola points.
"Wow, Zo! Happy birthday! Callie smiles at Zola and then Cinderella and hugs Zola before they walk to Derek and Meredith. Zola continues to greet her friends as they walk inside. Bailey helps by bowing at them and kissing their hands like the Prince showed him.
"You did it again, guys." Arizona laughs.
"Well, Zola deserves it." Meredith adds as she cuddles into Derek.
"Plus, it helps that I performed brain surgery on some of the workers in this facility." Derek smirks.
"Oh!" Callie shakes her head and laughs. "Can you use that for Sofi's birthday?" She scrunches her face when she hears herself say that. "I shouldn't have said that."
"It's okay, Callie. Sure I can." Derek smiles sincerely.
"How are these two?" Arizona asks as she looks at Meredith's stomach.
"They're good. Growing nicely. Addison will be back here in two weeks, but we may grab you sooner." Meredith giggles as she places her hands on her stomach.
"Excellent!" Arizona says as more people enter. All the little girls crowd around Zola and Cinderella while the adults, including their Grey-Sloan family gather around Derek and Meredith.
"Everyone is here!" Zola runs several minutes later, pointing to her friends.
"Okay! Time for activities." Derek says as he pauses talking to Richard.
"What are you doing first, Princess Zola?" Richard asks.
"Cinderella is gonna help us dress like a Princess and make wands and tiaras!"
"Wow!" Richard says. As Zola runs off, Richard turns to Meredith. "Did you help plan this?" His eyebrows raised.
"Yeah… Most of it. Picked out the favors, supplies, approved the activities. We just didn't know that Cinderella would be directing it." Meredith giggles.
"Meredith." Richard places a hand on her shoulder, looking her straight in the eye. "If you ever and I mean ever think you will be like your mother again, I will personally walk you up to psych." He says sincerely, eliciting grunts of laughter from Miranda and April who were listening. Derek beams as Meredith hides. Her face a bright pink.
"I will second that." Miranda smiles.
"She's so happy." April coos as they watch Zola and her friends.
"She is. Let's go watch her." Meredith nods and pulls on Derek's hand. The group wanders over to where Zola was standing with her friends plus Lexie and Bailey.
"Daddy, mama, look!" Zola says as she sees her parents. She holds out her arms to show off her blue princess dress.
"Cinderella is gonna put pretty flowers and ribbon on it, Mami!" Sofia exclaims when she sees Callie walk up as well. She has on a green dress.
"Look at me, daddy!" Bailey runs over to Derek. He has on navy pants over his jeans and a vest that looks like Prince Charming's.
"Very handsome, bud." Derek laughs.
"I get a crown, too!" He calls from where Prince Charming was fixing Bailey's vest. Derek glares at the man, totally oblivious to anything around him.
"Derek…" April calls. "Derek."
"Shep." Alex calls when Derek doesn't respond to April.
"What's wrong with him?" Jo whispers when Alex doesn't get a response.
"He needs Mer." Cristina laughs. Walking by and over to where Meredith was helping get a pink dress on Lexie. "Mer." She gets her friend's attention. "Why does Derek look like he might k-i-l-l the Prince?"
Meredith looks up from Lexie, wondering what was up with her husband. "Oh, Derek." She sighs. "He's jealous because he is working with Bailey." Meredith laughs.
"Nice!" Cristina laughs as Meredith heads back to Derek. She notices April and Alex still trying to get his attention.
Placing her hands on his chest, she leans to kiss him. "Derek?"
"Hmm… Oh? What?" He says as he pulls out of his trance and wraps his arms around Meredith.
"Derek, what happened?" Meredith giggles.
"Nothing." He doesn't meet her eyes.
"Didn't look like it." Alex laughs. "April and I have been calling your name and shaking your shoulder for five minutes."
"He's jealous." Giggles Meredith.
"Of who?!" Cristina asks as April laughs softly.
"The Prince and how he is helping Bails."
"Meredith!" Derek gasps. "No I'm not!"
"Really?" Meredith smirks, eyebrows raised.
"Uh… Mer…" April nudges her. Meredith turns as does Derek. April has to turn away to hide her laughter at how red Derek was currently.
"What's going on?" Amy asks as she walks up with Callie.
"Watch." April whispers as the Prince walks towards them with Bailey.
"Like this, young Prince." He says as he walks up to Meredith. As soon as he takes her hand, Alex immediately grabs Derek's shoulder. Owen and Richard who had been watching from the distance come over as they see Derek turn redder. "Greetings, for I am Prince Andrew. I want to thank you for allowing me to participate in this party." He kisses Meredith's hand looking at her with an unsafe, disturbing eye gaze. Meredith glances warningly at Derek as she tries to swallow the vomit rising in her throat. She finds the courage to nod as the guy bows and walks away. He doesn't notice Bailey stay behind.
"Ugh! That was disgusting!" Meredith moans and wipes her hand. "I seriously need to puke. He so does not look like a prince at all! Like a wannabe adult trapped in a baby's body. Looks like a teenager." She shudders. Derek visibly relaxes as everyone else covers their mouth to hide their laughs.
"Did you also happen to notice how he only went to Mer? That child had one thing on his mind." Callie whispers.
"He smells bad too, mama. I'm gonna stay by Cinderella." Bailey pats Meredith's leg before running away.
"Want some sanitizer or something, Mer?" April laughs as Meredith keeps wiping her hands. Meredith gladly takes some before Derek pulls her close.
"Hmm, did you really want to throw up?" Derek whispers as he pulls her close to him.
"Absolutely. Derek, it was like the pizza boy kissed my hand." Derek smirks at her statement before he bends to kiss her. "This is much better." Meredith hums as Derek kisses her.
"Meredith." Alex and Cristina laugh as Meredith reaches to bury her hands in Derek's soft curls.
"Alright, Princesses and Prince!" They hear Cinderella call. "Now that you are dressed for the ball and have made your beautiful wands and tiaras, crown for our little Prince. It is time for some special pixie dust!" She gushes.
"Yay!" All of the little girls squeal as they jump. Pushing for a turn first. They watch as the Prince tries to hand Cinderella a bag and leans in too much making Cinderella attempt to lightly push him back and glare at him. Derek and Alex smirk as the Prince now appears to suddenly sulk back as Cinderella brings over the glittery bag.
"Let me see the birthday girl first!" Cinderella holds out her hand for Zola. "Come here, sweetie." She kneels in front of Zola and holds her hands. "Now, the first thing you must do is close your eyes and make a wish. As you do so, spin in a circle and say Bibbity bopity boo!" Cinderella exclaims as Zola giggles.
Zola closes her eyes and mouths her wish. As she starts spinning, Cinderella sprinkles fairy dust all over Zola. When Zola opens her eyes, Cinderella picks up a mirror to show her. "I'm beautiful!" Zola gasps. "Look, mama! Look, daddy!" She runs to her parents as the other girls, including Lexie have a turn.
"You look so pretty!" Meredith coos as she hugs Zola.
"Gorgeous!" Derek lifts Zola high and kisses her.
"Look, Derek, Mer." Arizona coos as she points out Lexie getting sprinkled with fairy dust. The baby is looking up and holding her hands out trying to catch the dust as she laughs like crazy.
"Now, for our special Prince!" Cinderella exclaims once all of the girls are done. Bailey shyly looks at Cinderella as she kneels and pulls him in for a hug. "Do you know my friend Peter Pan?"
"Yeah!" Bailey nods.
"Well, he likes for me to do something very special for little boys. But, you have to do it right or else it might go wrong!" Cinderella smiles and turns to glare at the Prince. "This pixie dust will keep you young at heart forever and ever!" She kisses Bailey's head, making him blush.
"Wow!" Bailey gasps.
"Hmm, guess that's what happened to pizza boy." Meredith smirks. "Peter Pan's spell didn't work on him, now he's a man child." She says referring to the creepy Prince Charming
As Derek, Arizona, Cristina, April and Alex laugh, Bailey continues talking to Cinderella. "What do I do?"
"Well, you must count to three with me as I sprinkle you and then you are to hug the birthday princess."
"I can do that!" Bailey smiles proudly.
"Ready?"
"Yes, Cinderella!" Bailey nods.
"Alright, then…"one…two…three!" She counts and Bailey follows her perfectly and goes to hug his sister.
"You did it perfectly! Now, let's follow me to the rocking chair for a sing along and story time before my carriage arrives." Cinderella takes Zola and Lexie's hands and walks all of the kids over to the rocking chair. When all of the kids are seated around the chair, Cinderella pulls Zola to her feet. "Princess Zola, you have made a beautiful pink and blue wand. I love the ribbon on yours and your tiara is perfect with all of those jewels." She compliments as she pulls out a radio.
"Thank you." Zola blushes and hugs the Princess.
"You're welcome. Now, what is your favorite song?"
"A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes." Zola says.
"That's mine too! How would you and your friends like to sing along with me?" Cinderella asks as all of the kids cheer. She presses play on the radio and holds Zola's hands as she begins singing. Cinderella dances and sings with Zola as everyone joins in singing.
"She's in heaven." Meredith muses as they watch, Derek nods in agreement. Cinderella continues to lead the group in a few more songs before reading a story with Zola in her lap. Lexie and Bailey at her feet. The Prince just pouts in the corner, watching the whole time.
"Well, my beautiful princesses and prince, it is time for me to go." Cinderella glances at the clock once she finishes reading.
"Aww!" Zola whines and holds out her arms for another hug.
"How about we get some pictures?" Derek asks.
"Absolutely." Cinderella hugs Zola. "I have time for some pictures."
"Cinderella, can you say hi to Ariel for my sister?" Zola asks as Derek takes pictures.
"Certainly." Cinderella nods. "How does she know Ariel?"
"Ariel visited her for her birthday." Zola adds.
"Oh! My, well, I will let her know." Cinderella giggles.
"Alright, one big picture." Derek calls as Zola cuddles with Cinderella. After several more hugs and a picture with Lexie and Bailey, Cinderella and the Prince head back to their castle.
"Mama!" That was the bestest thing ever!" Zola squeals.
"Did you love it, Zo?" Meredith giggles as her daughter hugs her.
"Yah!" Zola says as she buries her nose in Meredith's lap.
"We're glad, love bug." Derek coos. "Now, it's time for a dance party before presents and cake."
"Cool!" Zola jumps.
"Yeah, Zo! I'm going to tell the DJ." Derek takes her hand and leads her to the music station. Meredith sits at the table as she watches Derek get the dancing started. Disney music fills the air as ten six year olds come running to the floor to dance. The lights dim to create a cool effect with the hologram lights.
.
"Hey, Mer." Alex comes over a couple of songs later as the kids continue to dance in their princess gear. Meredith is sitting watching Derek dance with Zola while Bailey dances with Lexie.
"Hey!" Meredith smiles as Alex sits, beer in hand.
"You did incredible." He bumps her shoulder playfully.
"Thanks, Derek did most." Meredith blushes.
"No, Mer. You did a lot yourself. Both of you. I can tell how much you loved doing this for your kid. Just as much as Shepherd."
"I really did." Meredith giggles. "Is it weird that I'm so happy?" She says.
"No, Mer. I love seeing you this happy." Alex smirks and bumps her again.
"Me too. I don't think it's weird." Meredith says with a tone that shows her true growth over the years. One that would make a person that didn't know her not believe that she was ever dark and twisty.
"Good, you shouldn't. You're happy and you deserve every bit of every second." Alex pats her back as Meredith giggles at Bailey trying to spin Lexie while Derek spins with Zola.
"I am happy, Alex. More than I can believe." She beams wildly. "Then, with these two." She pats her stomach. "I am even happier. I also really hope they look just like Derek, boys or girls. I can't wait for them to be here. Even though it's going to be hard, I need them to be here safe." Meredith looks at her hands resting on her stomach.
"They will, Mer. They have two of the strongest parents in the world. Plus, if they are like Lexie and Bails, they will be as stubborn as a mule. Since you and Derek is where Lexie and Bailey got it, then these little guys will get it as well. Which means they will make it." Alex snorts.
"Alex!" She covers her mouth and laughs again. Shoving him slightly. After a moment of silence and sharing a look, Meredith speaks. "Are you happy?" She looks at him pointedly.
He turns to look over at Jo who was happily chatting with Cristina and Amy. His face lights up like a Christmas tree at the sight. "I am so damn happy." Alex smirks as he looks back at Meredith.
"No regrets about Izzie?" Meredith snorts.
"Hah!" Alex scoffs. "Not a freakin' bit."
"What made you know Jo was it? Because don't tell me when Izzie first came you didn't question yourself." Meredith asks softly.
Alex is silent as he stares ahead. Lost in thought. He rubs his chin and sighs. "When she first came back, I wondered. I thought, maybe?" Alex takes a swig of his beer. "But, then…"
"What?" Meredith asks when he drifts again.
He looks up at Meredith. "Then, I don't remember exactly when it was, but, one day I just looked at Jo and it all clicked. I think she was making breakfast and she was so proud that she made the perfect pancake or something. I swear, it was like I realized that she made me feel a different kind of crazy. A good crazy. Like I'd go crazy without her, not with her. Does that make sense?"
Meredith smiles at her friend's revelation. "Yes, Alex. That makes complete sense. I feel that way about Derek. Like I would be lost without him."
"You'd be more than lost, Mer. I'm the same with Jo. The… The attack solidified that thought for me." Alex mumbles.
"Hmm, yes. I would basically be dead without Derek." Meredith mentions honestly. "I'm glad you realized that."
"Thanks." Alex nudges her again. "On Valentine's Day I'm planning to propose." He blushes.
"ALEX!" Meredith squeals making Derek and Cristina look over.
"Shh, Mer!" Alex panics and looks towards Jo. She luckily did not seem to notice.
"Sorry, sorry!" Meredith covers her mouth as Derek starts to walk over. "That's great news!"
"She hasn't said yes yet, Mer." Alex mumbles.
"Who hasn't said yes?" Derek asks as he sits and pulls Meredith close. "Come here, you." He play growls as he kisses her cheek repeatedly and then her lips.
"Hey, you." Meredith coos as she strokes his thigh. Then, she turns to Alex. "Can I tell him?"
"Course, Mer." Alex shrugs.
"He's proposing on Valentine's Day." Meredith whispers to Derek.
Derek looks at Alex, smiling. "That's great, Karev!" He pats the man's shoulder.
"Thanks." Alex blushes.
"Come here, Alex." Meredith giggles and pulls Alex into a hug. Wrapping her arms around him from the side. He laughs and pats her arm.
"Well, we can talk about it more at work. Now, it's your daughters day." Alex says as Meredith pulls away.
"It is." Meredith nods.
"Your daughter who is ready for cake and presents." Derek laughs.
"Yeah? Her daddy built up her appetite, huh?" Meredith giggles as she brushes his cheek.
"I couldn't get enough. Dancing with all three of them. They were all giggling."
"It was adorable, Derek." Meredith agrees.
"Soon I will have five to dance with." Derek kisses her head.
"Is the present set up?" Meredith asks.
"It's ready to go!" Derek says, leaning in to kiss her lips.
"I kind of want to do the presents first." Meredith muses.
"Me too." Derek says while holding her close and rubs her arms.
"Why not. People usually leave after cake. But, if you do gifts first, they won't." Alex shrugs.
"Hmm, okay." Derek nods and turns to the dance floor. "Zola!" He calls.
"Daddy! It's Princess Zola!" She giggles.
"Oh, sorry Princess Zola." Derek pulls her into his lap. He gasps at how she seems bigger already. "How about we do presents first?"
"Yah! Yah!" She nods vigorously.
"Okay, love bug. Go tell your friends to come sit by the big Cinderella poster."
"Kay, mama!" Zola says as she stumbles down.
"She's amazing." Derek muses while watching. "Mer? Does Zo seem bigger to you?" He asks while they watch Zola tell her friends that it was time for presents.
"Yes. She grew two inches in three weeks. I measured her this morning." Meredith groans.
"My baby." Derek moans.
"She will always be our baby. Plus you have Lexie and these two." Meredith cuddles into Derek's neck, hugging him.
"I know." Derek muses as he hugs her back.
"I hear it's present time?" Miranda asks as she walks over to them.
"Yes, presents and then cake." Meredith nods.
"Ready, Mer?" Beams Derek as he looks at his wife cuddled against his chest.
"Yes. I have never been more thankful for how quick kids unwrap gifts."
"Me neither, Mer. I can't wait to see their faces!" Derek pulls them up together. They walk over to where kids were all sitting in front of Zola who was facing them as she sat in front of the big poster of Cinderella and Prince Charming.
"Mama! Daddy! Sit by me!" Zola waves as Lexie and Bailey sit near her.
"Sure, love bug." Meredith coos as Derek helps her sit and Lexie toddles over to her. Derek sits on the other side of Zola before they all check to make sure everyone is there. They see all of Zola's friends from school sitting in front of them. The parents and family from the hospital were behind them. Zola looks at the table next to Derek and wriggles eagerly.
"Here, Zo." Derek says as he hands her one.
"Cool!" Zola says as she rips open a pink housewares set with an iron and other big girl toys.
"Say thanks." Derek reminds gently.
"Thank you!" She coos as Bailey joins her for the next one. She opens up some games next and then a few Barbies with accessories.
"Those are beautiful." Meredith grins when Zola opens some dresses from April.
"Cool! Books! I love "Pete the Cat"! Zola cheers at her next gift. "Thanks, mama and daddy!" She says when she opens up a Princess register. Zola opens some more clothes, books, a new baby doll with a stroller and diaper bag and falls in love with a girly jewelry box from Miranda next. Owen and Amy get her a robotic unicorn and a fluffy robotic dog that barks. She opens more Doctor toys, a mermaid and fairy play set, some outside toys, a light up drawing pad and a building set before there is one gift left. A huge box that Derek had managed to hide under a tablecloth.
"Zo! Look!" Bailey points after Derek lifts up the tablecloth revealing a huge box wrapped in Cinderella paper.
"I didn't see that one!" Zola squeals as she stands and runs to Derek.
"It was hiding, Princess Zola. This is a super, super special one from me and mama." Derek smiles as he motions for Meredith to come over. When Meredith is standing next to him, he takes Lexie and guides her to Bailey. "Buddy, hang on to your sister, okay?"
"Okay, daddy!" Bailey nods and grabs her hand. All of the other kids watch curiously and their parents all watch with interest. Their hospital family all with smirks on their faces.
"Lex, stay with Bailey." Derek nods and looks at Meredith. "Ready, Mer?" He smirks. Both feel butterflies in their stomach as they get closer and closer to the big reveal. Meredith squeezes Derek's arm as he lifts the box.
"A CAR!" Zola squeals as Derek lifts the box and throws it to the side. Meredith and Derek smirk at each other, knowing what was coming. Bailey gasps as he sees the pink Disney Princess car that looks like a carriage. It had a dark pink outside with light pink trim. There's light pink, plastic seats with hearts on the trim. There are pictures of Cinderella, Belle, Aurora and Snow White all over. The steering wheel is light, glittery pink. "THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!" Zola screams as all of her friends gasp. She runs and throws her arms around Meredith's legs. "Mama! I love it!" She squeals as she grips Meredith's pants. After squealing loud while jumping up and down, Zola looks up at Meredith and Derek with the happiest of smiles.
"Princess, why don't you take a closer look." Derek smirks and several of the doctors choke back laughs. Zola smiles as she moves to her new car.
"There's a box in the princess seat." She says. Zola pulls out a box wrapped in blue and pink paper. "It says Zola, Bailey and Lexie." She looks up at Meredith and Derek funny.
"Me?" Bailey looks from Zola to Meredith.
"It's something for all three of you." Meredith explains as Derek wraps his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. "All of you open together." Bailey goes to sit next to Zola and leads Lexie with him.
"You open, Bailey." Zola says sweetly.
"Kay." He whispers tentatively. Meredith and Derek watch with bated breath as Bailey strips off the paper. Even Lexie is watching curiously as she sucks on her fingers. He opens the box and sees pink tissue paper wrapped around something.
"Says, Zola." Bailey points.
"Give that to her." Derek says carefully as he notices Cristina and Amy videoing.
"This is mine." Bailey coos and pulls out something wrapped in blue tissue. "There's one for Lexie too." He looks inside to see a yellow package wrapped in tissue.
"Leave that one in there." Derek explains.
"When we count to three, you two open. It's from me and daddy." Meredith explains, both kids watching her like she had three heads.
"Okay." Derek breathes. "One… Two… Three!" He says along with Meredith and the kids immediately begin ripping off the paper.
"A shirt?" Zola says as she holds up a cranberry colored, soft, jersey material shirt.
"Read it, Zola." Derek says as he sees Meredith bite her lip.
Zola breathes in and looks at the letters as Bailey holds his matching shirt. "Big… Sister… Again?" She scrunches her nose and looks at Bailey's shirt that was charcoal gray. "Yours says… Big… Brother… Again."
"Yeah?" Bailey asks, looking at Zola. "What's that mean?"
"Ummm…?" Zola ponders.
"Help Lexie open her's." Derek tries. The kids take out the third package and put it by Lexie.
"Here, Lex." Zola coos as she rips the yellow paper. "A shirt that's the same color as mine! It also says Big Sister. But hers says Finally at the end. Big Sister, Finally."
"Is Lexie a big sister?" Meredith asks. Her chest tightening.
"No, mama." Bailey shakes his head.
"No…" Zola shakes her head, confused. Suddenly, she gasps, her jaw dropping. "Bailey!" She gasps and shakes her brothers shoulder. "Lexie not a little sister no more! That means… That means… Mama, do you have a baby in your belly?" She looks at Meredith in shock.
"Yes, Zola. I have two babies in my belly." Meredith coos as she looks at the huge smiles on Zola and Bailey's face. Derek watches as he holds Meredith. The proudest smile on his face.
"Mama!" Bailey screams with delight as he runs to hug Meredith, Zola following, giggling like mad. "I'm getting a brudder?" He asks as he looks up from squeezing her legs.
Meredith bends down to wrap both kids in her arms. Derek following as Lexie comes over. He pulls all four of them into a hug. "It could be two brothers, Bails. Could be two sisters." Derek explains.
"Yay!" Both kids shout.
"Lexie, you're gonna be a big sister. There are babies in mama's belly." Derek shows Lexie Meredith's belly.
"Me baby." She nods.
"It's too early for her to understand, Derek." Meredith laughs at Derek trying to explain and kisses him.
"There's two in here?" Bailey pulls back and taps Meredith's stomach.
"Yes, you are going to either have two little brothers or two little sisters." Explains Meredith. "They are called twins."
"This is so cool!" Bailey jumps.
"This is the bestest birthday ever!" Zola bounces up and down. She stands and runs over to her friends who had been watching. Derek moves to sit him and Meredith on the ground. He immediately wraps one arm around her shoulders and the other pulls Bailey close. Meredith leans into his chest and pulls Lexie onto her lap. "Guess what, everyone?! My mama has two babies in her belly!" She raises her arms high and shouts for all to hear. Every child in the group gasp in shock. Like it was the biggest news they had ever heard. They all get up and run to their mommy's.
"Uh oh, they are all probably asking them for two babies." Derek blushes as he whispers to Meredith. "Zola!" He calls her back.
"Yes, daddy?"
"Are you excited?" Derek pokes her belly.
"Yes! Yes!" She squeals.
"Me too, daddy!" Bailey chimes as he looks up at Derek.
"You are, Bails?!" Meredith says in shock.
"Of course, mama! I asked Santa for a brudder! Now I am getting two!"
"I asked also, so it's one for each of us! Lexie don't get one cause she didn't ask!" Zola says seriously. Meredith and Derek bite their lips to refrain from laughing.
"They are all of our babies, guys." Meredith says as she places her hand on her stomach.
"Daddy, can I wear my shirt?" Bailey asks.
"Sure, bud. Just don't get cake on it."
"CAKE!" Zola screams.
"Woah, someone is excited." Amy laughs.
"She is." Derek laughs as he slips Bailey's shirt over his head.
"Me too, daddy!" Bailey says as he jumps up and hugs him. "Mama, keep my brudders nice and safe!" He smiles as he turns to Meredith.
"I will, buddy." Meredith giggles.
"Cake time, daddy!" Zola shakes his shoulder.
"Yes, princess. Go tell your friends." Derek instructs.
"I help you up, mama!" Bailey rushes to help Meredith. "My brudders are tiny."
"Should we mention that it might be sisters?" Meredith whispers as she stands next to Derek.
"Hmm, no. He's excited." Derek chuckles.
"Lexie, ya can't swing your legs like that!" Bailey yells at Lexie who was kicking her legs as Meredith held her. "You might kick the babies!"
"Me baby!" Lexie coos.
"It's okay, buddy. I won't let her kick mama." Derek smirks as takes Bailey's hand and guides them all to the table. Zola is standing at the head of the long table staring at her cake.
"Congratulations." Several of the mothers say as Derek and Meredith walk past. After saying "thanks" they reach their oldest daughter. Meredith stands on one side with Lexie and Derek lifts Bailey onto his shoulders so that he could wrap Zola close. Zola's friends all sit at the table while all of the adults stand around.
"Hey, birthday girl!" Alex gives Zola a high five before standing next to Meredith.
"Happy birthday, ZoZo!" Cristina smiles widely as she stands next to Derek and shares a smile with Meredith. Both of them feeling over the moon that Cristina was here to participate in this.
"Ready, love bug?" Meredith bends to kiss her daughter's cheek.
"Yeah!" Zola bounces as she stares at the carriage cake. She sucks in a breath as everyone starts singing. At the end, Zola looks up at Meredith who was brushing her hair as she watched Zola proudly. Zola squeezes her hand and kisses it. Then, she looks up at Derek whose eyes were brimmed with happy tears. She hugs him tight before taking a deep breath in to blow out her candles. Every single one going out. The room erupts in cheers as she gets all the candles at once. After everything calms down, they eat their cake while enjoying Zola and Bailey constantly wanting to touch Meredith's belly. Meredith feeling so much joy in this moment that she can't help but believe that everything will be okay.
