It was late and Tai couldn't stop the yawn that escaped his mouth. He glanced at Noriko as she leant up against him with her head resting on his shoulder. His arm was wrapped around her and they were cuddled up together on the sofa. The couple had been like this for about half an hour or so after they had finally left the office. Matt, Sora, Izzy and Mimi had left the office at the same time as them but they had gone straight to bed.

Davis and the others, including Izzy and Mimi, had returned from their escort of the search and rescue teams as they looked through the area where Metalseadramon had attacked the naval patrol. Their worst fears had been confirmed and there hadn't been any survivors found before the Digidestined had decided to turn in for the night. Davis had wanted to stay out longer because the search had been extended but Tai had ordered him back, knowing that they all needed to rest because they needed to do their normal patrols tomorrow. Being tired on them could put the Digidestined in danger and Tai didn't want to take any risks.

Noriko let out a long breath and snuggled a little closer to him. Her eyes were shut and Tai was fairly certain that his girlfriend was asleep at that moment. He sighed too as he finally let his mind leave Metalseadramon's ambush and move to thoughts of what nearly was earlier before he and his girlfriend had been interrupted.

The couple had been so close to going all the way until those messages informing them of Metalseadramon's attack had stopped things. Tai had promised that they could pick things up later on but they were both too tired now to do anything like that. It wasn't like they were in the mood either because Metalseadramon's attack had completely ruined it for them.

Tai was certain that he'd make it up to her at some point when they were alone again and the timing was appropriate. He really wanted to let Noriko know how he felt about her using his actions because he really appreciated that she had been there for him over the past few weeks. She'd helped him whilst he was recovering from his injuries and she went out of her way to make sure that he was looked after during that time. Tai had thanked her many times and told her how he felt about her, but saying it verbally didn't seem like enough and he wanted to express things in other ways.

Seeing Noriko without anything on earlier only confirmed what Tai already knew. She was beautiful and he wanted to make sure that she knew it. Sure, she didn't have the bra size of Mimi, but she wasn't exactly lacking in that area. Tai guessed that she was a similar size to Yolei, which was still above average and more than he could hold in his hand. Her hips were slim yet still curvy, she had long smooth legs and her body was slender.

Tai wondered why she didn't wear clothing that showed off her figure more often but he guessed that it didn't really matter. It was, after all, who she was and her personality that had made him fall for her. The way that she'd helped him and was there for him only made him want to be with her more. A smile spread across Tai's lips because he knew that he was falling in love with the beautiful brunette sleeping next to him.

He glanced around and wondered what to do because he knew that they really should go to bed. However, he didn't want to wake Noriko up as she slept peacefully while snuggled up against him. If his left hand wasn't in a cast, he probably would have carried her to her room or something along those lines.

A sigh escaped Tai's mouth before he leaned forwards and placed his lips against her forehead to kiss her. He decided that it was pointless going anywhere and he'd spend the night like this because it meant that he could spend it with Noriko. It wasn't quite what they'd been planning earlier in the day but that didn't matter because Tai just wanted to be with his girlfriend. He pulled his lips back before gently resting his head on top of hers and closing his eyes.

Kari stared out towards the mouth of Tokyo Bay with TK by her side. The couple tightened their hold on each other's hands as they turned to glance at one another. It was time for them to start the day's patrol and they had just left the barrier surrounding the base when Kari had sensed it. She hadn't said anything yet but she knew that what her extra sense was telling her must be correct because of TK's reaction when they had reached the carpark above the base that looked over the bay.

The couple turned around to face Izzy and Mimi, who were staring at them questioningly. Davis and Ken were standing next to Imperialdramon on the other side of the carpark and they were just about to leave with Joe, Cody, Hiroshi and their Digimon. They were due to head over to the Chiba area again and do more ambushes over the peninsular while Kari, TK, Izzy and Mimi were meant to do their usual patrols around the city.

"Do you think that's Metalseadramon?" Kari finally asked as her eyes focused on TK's sapphire pair. "Or could it be a rather powerful group of evil Digimon and Deep Ones?"

Her husband sighed before he pursed his lips. "It's a bit too far away for me to tell and it seems like they're out in the ocean or at the mouth of the bay. It means we can't go and check what's going on because they're probably underwater."

"Metalseadramon is out there?" Davis stopped before he and his team were about to enter the blue light that would carry them up onto Imperialdramon's back. "We should go and find him so we can kick his ass for yesterday."

"He must be far away if I can't sense him but Kari and TK can," Ken sighed as he glanced out over Tokyo Bay. "It means he is probably out of our reach."

"As much as I want to go and hunt him down, I think that it would be a bad idea to do so," Tai's voice left their earpieces. "His actions over the past few days have been too erratic for us to know what he's doing. It's best if we just track him for now and continue on as planned."

Their leader was in the Digidestineds' office and, as per usual, was part of their comms whilst they were leaving base. It was something that they had decided on because it meant that the other Digidestined inside could be informed straightaway if there was an immediate threat. They would swap to their own comm channels once they'd taken off and were on their way to get the first readings on Dragomon's location.

"I think that Tai is right," Izzy commented as he also stared out over the bay. "Fighting Metalseadramon over the water is very risky because that's his domain."

"Exactly," Tai replied over their comms. "We don't know if what he's been doing is some kind of bait to lure us into a trap. We should keep our distance for now and stay safe."

"Ok, understood," Kari replied before she took her bag off so that she could get her compass to take a reading on both Metalseadramon's and Dragomon's directions. "TK and I will keep tracking him for now."

"Roger that, Tai." Davis finished for them before he turned and walked towards the light that would lift him up onto Imperialdramon's back. "Let's get going guys."

Matt glanced around the medical facility as he waited for the doctor to see him and Sora. His girlfriend was sitting next to him on the plastic chairs and they had an arm wrapped around each other. Yolei was currently in with the doctor, getting her check-up as well. The door opened and the couple gazed over to see their friend leaving the room.

"Is it good news?" Sora asked as she stood up, breaking their embrace. "Are your injuries healing fine?"

"Yeah, they're healing fine." Yolei nodded as she smiled. She held up her arm to show her friends the splint on it. "The doctor has given me this so I can go out on patrols now. He says I've still got to be careful to not reinjure it over the next few weeks because it's still healing, but I take it as a good sign that I can go on patrols again."

Matt smiled. "That's great news. Hopefully we'll get similarly good news."

"I'm glad to hear it." Sora gave her friend a quick hug. She sighed after she pulled back and glanced down at her own arm before rubbing where her fracture had been. "Hopefully I'll be told the same thing. It'll let me get out on patrols and help the others again."

"I think that we all feel like that." Matt pursed his lips for a moment. "It's been rather frustrating for us to only be able to help out around the base except on those few occasions when we did get to leave or it was an emergency."

"Yeah, I want to get back out there and help too, so I'm glad that they gave me this splint." Yolei rubbed her arm as she smiled. "It'll be nice to not be cooped up in this base and get back out there as well. I'm sure that you'll both be allowed to return to action if I've been given the ok to join the others."

"Miss Takenouchi," a nurse interrupted them as she poked her head out of the door. "The doctor is ready to see you now."

"I guess I'll see you in a short while." Yolei gave them a wave. "Laters."

"Bye," both Matt and Sora replied in unison, giving their friend a wave too as she left. The couple turned around, lacing their fingers before they made their way into the doctor's office together.

"Do you mind Matt coming in too?" Sora asked the nurse as the couple followed her.

The nurse gave her a smile. "It's fine, just like it was last time. Besides, he's getting his check-up after yours, right?"

Matt nodded. "Yeah."

"Thanks." Sora smiled back as she and Matt were about to take the seats on the other side of the desk to the doctor before he stopped them.

"You both seem to be doing rather well," the doctor commented before he started looking through his notes. "First things first, we're going to have to x-ray you both before I do some other checks. We need to make sure that your fractures are healing fine, after all."

The couple were led to the x-ray room by the nurse so that they could have the scans to check that Sora's arm and Matt's ribs were healing properly. Sora was the first to get x-rayed before Matt had his injuries checked. They were back in the doctor's office within half an hour and awaiting the x-rays to be processed by the nurse.

Whilst they were waiting, the doctor asked them both various questions about how their recoveries were going before he moved onto some physical checks. He began with Sora and ended with Matt. He'd already handed Sora a splint for her arm before the nurse came back to inform them that the x-rays were ready.

"It looks like your arm is healing just fine, Miss Takenouchi." The doctor smiled as he turned his computer screen so that they could see it. He used his pen to point at where the fracture in her arm had been. "You need to keep doing your physiotherapy to make sure that the fracture heals correctly, so don't stop doing the exercises even though I've given you the splint. Also, like I said, you have to be careful to not put too much strain on it right now because it is still rather weak and the bone is still mending itself. It'll take a few more weeks before you're fully recovered."

Sora smiled again as she gave a nod of her head. "Thanks."

Matt watched as the doctor turned to him. "Mister Ishida, I've got even better news for you. As your rib injuries weren't as severe as the fracture in Miss Takenouchi's arm, you've made a much quicker recovery. The fractures in your ribs have healed fine and they shouldn't give you any issues now, so you're free to do as you wish as long as you don't do something that will result in you coming back here to be treated any time soon."

"Thank you." Matt chuckled as he gave the doctor a slight bow. He let out a sigh of relief as he lifted his head and leant back in his chair. It felt like an entire weight, which he didn't even know that he was carrying, had been lifted off his mind.

"Does this mean that we're both cleared to go on patrols again?" Sora asked as she rubbed the splint on her arm. "Can we start helping our friends out?"

The doctor smiled as he nodded. "Yes, you can both return to active duty. Just be careful to not overdo it, Miss Takenouchi."

Sorry that this chapter is shorter than normal. Hopefully it is still ok.

The reasons for the shorter chapter are that I'm going to be travelling over the coming weeks and that I wanted to edit some one-shots that I've written so that I can publish them before Last Evolution comes out in February. I've managed to get one published and the other should be out soon.

I'm worried that Last Evolution could mess up the continuity of these one-shots, so I really wanted to publish them beforehand. The only way for them to still fit properly would be if TK and Kari were already together at the beginning of the new film. While I'm hoping that TK and Kari will be a couple in the new movie, I'm not expecting it to happen.

To put on top of all of that, I've also got to begin editing next month's chapter before I go on my travels. I'm hoping that I'll get that finished before the end of next month so I can keep my monthly updates coming as per usual.

Also, thinking of new Digimon things, has anyone seen the adverts for the new series? It looks like they're going to reboot Digimon Adventure. Is anyone looking forward to it?

Please can you let me know your thoughts about this chapter by posting a review :D
