Just when the same night couldn't get more interesting; it did (it was NYC after all!). There'd been concern about climate change (not global whatever anymore...?) wackos trying to start massive fires (which I think many around the world were deliberate ones!) and of course the world's top city would be candidate number one for it. There were no shortages of brain dead/brainwashed crazies here after all!
Yep; they really did it. They started a blaze in Central Park. We'd been knocking thugs heads together when this had gone down. We were still the closest superhero unit to the issue so we were going to handle it our way. Pegasus/Jack hung back for this. "Spider man, wonder woman, thank god! It's getting too intense for my men to handle," the local fire chief said. "Keep your men back chief," I said. "Will do; but the fire's going to spread - and fast if we don't do something." There were of course urban structures everywhere. I could of course fly grab a massive dish and dump ocean water on it like Clark (although his super breath options would be handier here); but the fire would spread out of control by then. Peter looked at me; I could see his stumped look from behind his mask.
But there was an advantage that I did have that even Clark didn't; friends in high places... Father was also god of weather. Mighty Athena - summon the most powerful of rain in our father's most holy name to crush this evil; to save these many human beings made in our father's image...
They were going to ask what was going to happen again - but thunder sounded; distinctive thunder to my godly ears. We all looked up. Unnatural storm clouds gathered at stunning speed; and perfectly right over the massive park. Then, a super concentrated downpour occurred. The fire was spreading even more quickly; our timing couldn't have been better. But despite the intensity of the fire it was no match for Olympian rainfall.
"Holy Christ," said the chief as he witnessed Olympian intervention at its finest. "It's working guys; it's putting it out!" Pete looked at me. "Your doing no doubt?" I gave a lopsided grin. "I had some help." "Right." The magic rain knocked out the fire like it was nothing. Soon enough it was out entirely.
Injuries from the fire were minor; none were firemen. The firemen above all thanked us. "No problem guys," I told them. I then pulled Pete off to the side. "We need to find these assholes before they strike again." "Yeah; and strike again they will." I grew ruthless like brother. "When I find them I'll let Jack loose on them; and we know now how he likes to make an entrance..." Peter unconsciously rubbed at his costumed throat in memory of that super canine debut that had saved him.
We rendezvoused with our nonhuman companions and resumed our patrol; I had the wonder plane scan through time itself to find these pricks that had gotten away with it; for now... But the next Zeus was coming for them next...and I didn't take prisoners!
