Chapter 107, Shalour showdown 3
"Just your Gardevoir won't be enough. Use Sludge Wave!" Unit started his attack on the Champion's ace. Unit's Nidoking spit out a purple sludge that headed straight for Gardevoir. Diantha's eye twitched giving her Pokémon an order to dodge it. Gardevoir with grace glided to the with the purple sludge missing and splatting against a wall.
"Use Smokescreen!" Magmortar raised both arms and a huge black cloud of smoke covered the street they were in. The Fire type user knowing their trick from his leader figured if couldn't see each other it wouldn't work and they were stuck with voice commands like the rest of them.
"Drill Run!" The horn on Nidoking started to extend and creating a screw effect spinning fiercely ready to pierce whatever object it hit first.
"Use Reflect!" Gardevoir's eyes shone stopping the Poison type in its tracks. The protective barrier stronger than the two knights gave seen before still weren't worried.
"Brick Break!" Magmortar came out of the air with a raised arm glowing slamming it towards Gardevoir
"King's Shield!" A blue barrier shined and Magmortar collided with it. Being forced back it stood back on the ground now. It shined a blue aura feeling its strenght being sapped away.
"Perform Air Slash!" A white slice cut through the smoke carving a so the street was visible again.
"The sincerest of apologies for keeping you waiting lady Diantha."
The clattering of metal mixed with his voice the Champion had the backup she wished for. A man dressed in a metal armor adorned with golden accents with spiked dull brown hair and a six pointed star on his forehead Diantha veried the identity of her associate.
"Wikstrom. How nice of you to join us."
The man called Wikstrom is one of Kalos Elite Four. The man being an expert in Steel types was the closest one to Shalour City so Diantha requested him to aid in the take back of the city and help battling on her side against Team Union. The knight heard the call and with the current affairs in mind sped to the place the actress told him to rendezvous in Shalour City.
"Your sudden request has left me quite a haste to accompany you in this time of dire need. Forgive me if my diligence is not at your required specifics."
"Look at that Mixture. Someone copied our gimmick." The Poison type user seeing the armor the man wore saw the funny side of it. Even if his Aegislash was immune to Poison types there were alternatives his hotheaded partner could provide.
"Who cares!? That armor should melt just fine! Use Lava Plume!"
"Gardevoir, Psychic!" Her mental powers shining bright the Psychic type blocked a part of the flames.
"Aegislash, use Sacred Sword!" The sword slipped out of the shield part and grabbed it with one of his ribbon arms. Pointing towards their foes Aegislash slashed straight through the flames making them die out.
"Aegislash was molded in the fires of Moltres himself!"
"Wikstrom. You're exaggerating again."
Diantha being reminded that the Elite Four member has a large fondness for chivalry and the medieval days. As a child he fell in love with the tales of honorable Pokémon battles among knights of various kingdoms to defend the honor of their rulers and modeled himself to what he considers those glory days.
"Forgive me. It's just been an eternity since I raised a hand in a battle with such high stakes. I'm waiting in anticipation in the meeting of the trainer you speak about with the highest of regards.
"Stop ignoring us! Fire Blast!" The Team Union fire knight had enough of the two little talk. Maybe burning the city to the ground might get their attention and get their full attention on them again.
Clemont and Korrina had made their way through the hidden tunnel leading back to the Gym and according to Korrina they were nearly at the end. Coming across a similar looking door to the one back when they entered Lucario put some of his aura in the hole so it would open from the inside.
"We're in."
The door opening slowly like the other they stepped back a bit just in case more of Team Union were waiting for them on the other side. With no one in sight they walked through it and checked around for any hidden surprises.
"Korrina! Over here!" Clemont screamed at her making her come to him as soon as possible. Getting to Clemont she saw her grandfather being tied up and blindfolded struggling.
"Grandfather!" Korrina and Clemont running to him they untied his bindings and allowed him to see again. Blinking a few times because of the light that assaulted his eyes he quickly went explaining what happened.
"Listen carefully! He never was after the secrets of the Tower! He rigged the self destruct feature here!"
"You have a self destruct button!?" Clemont panicking now. Asking himself why on earth you'd equip your Gym with a self destruct function it would have to wait.
"He made his exit through the secret tunnel. How he knew about it I have no clue."
"How did he open it? I thought you said that only a Lucario from here can open the door." Clemont remembering the conditions it was impossible to open the door for the leader.
Korrina's Lucario felt something turned sideways and saw a burst of flames shot to them. Jumping in front he focused his aura to create a protective shield. The two Gym leaders flinching waited for the heat to die down before the origin of the flames showed itself.
"Lucario and Blaziken!?" The two Pokémon had a blank stare and no pupils in their eyes. Korrina knowing they were her grandfathers Pokémon didn't know what got into them. Clemont had a suspicion of what Ash and Serena told him what happened to Aria.
"It must be from the Hypnosis his Malamar has. Serena said Aria suffered the same thing." Clemont being hypnotized by a Malamar once as well know they can't help it. Gurkinn's Lucario launched an Aura Sphere to Korrina's Lucario who blocked it with his paws. Sliding back from the impact Blaziken immediately jumped in after with a Blaze Kick.
"Stop it you two! We need to get to the switch before the tower crumbles!" Gurkin ordered his Pokémon to stop not getting why they were attacking him and his granddaughter.
"Korrina now! Use it!" Clemont finally giving her the ok they needed some additional power since there's no time to waste.
"Lucario, Mega Evolve!" Lucario changed form and got his power up boost. Now with Mega Evolution on their side again Korrina and her Lucario had hoped for different circumstances to finally defeat her grandfathers Lucario. Clemont and Gurkinn left the current Mega Evolution successor alone so they could prevent the towers destruction.
Greninja and Primarina were returned to their balls to get some rest. Nina in the meantime waiting hummed a few little songs softly. She did some little notes and hummed warming up her vocal cords in preparation for what is coming their way with Pikachu just silently enjoyed hearing her sing.
"Shouldn't you safe your voice?" Ash asking if it's a good idea to use some of it already.
"It calms me. I'm getting twitchy from all the waiting."
She rather just get it over with. They had no clue on what's going in Shalour City and how the others were doing in their battles. After creating a call with their Pokémon it still felt like an eternity for Team Union's leader to get here.
Feeling a cold coming up suddenly the two rubbed their hands. Trying to get some heat back into them Pikachu yelled at the two and they turned around quickly. Seeing a Shiftry in a nearby tree looking down on them they took in its appearance. Seeing the rotten wings on its back the two studied and took in every last detail of it.
"So that's what it looks like for real."
Having read about the real one Nina always thought a fake couldn't get anywhere near the real thing. However the appearance of it was almost exactly the same minus the black hair and rotten leaf wings. From what she learned those were supposed to be a dark green like the blue harp Primarina gets so it told her there were some differences between a real one and a fake.
The Shiftry jumped off the branch it stood on and flipped over a few times forward. Its feet landing on the ground they felt a shockwave of air cushioning its fall and it nearly blew Ash's hat away. Pikachu held on to his best friends shoulder and Nina's long hair got blown up too. The wind died down with the Shiftry not moving at all now but for the faint flapping of its leaf wings still making quite a storm.
"What is it what you want from us!?" Ash figured the trainer of the Shiftry must be nearby too since they didn't share the senses like they did. He demanded from the Pokémon to tell why his trainer set up all this and went through all the effort getting him back to Kalos.
Seeing a character dressed entirely in black come from behind the trees Ash let his hand go near his Pokeballs.
"The Greninja trainer."
The character dressed entirely in black spoke softly. He was waiting for this day patiently. He'd make a fine addition to Team Union once the leader proves he doesn't share the boy's weaknesses and he would help him create a new order in the Kalos region.
"Again! What do you want!?" Ash losing patience over the Grass/Dark type just staring at him.
"I am Lord Fusion. Your superior." The black figure finally spoke.
"I could care less what you are!"
"At ease young Battle Bond trainer. Let's discuss business." Fusion could forgive his recklessness. If only he took time to listen like the Lumiose City Gym Leader did. He found the chosen trainer incredibly hotheaded for someone with his powers.
"There's nothing to talk about!"
"That crystal I gave you. You still have it with you?" Fusion asking him if he had accepted his gift.
"No."
"You squandered my gift? All those people who pretend to be powerful by using Mega Evolution, don't you feel any anger to them? Like those who wish to destroy you? A fake bond power created by mere rocks. It's nothing compared to what we are. The chosen ones."
His mind briefly going back to Unity he'd let the Greninja trainer deal with her when the time comes. He just had to give him a new crystal that would depower Unity's ability to Mega Evolve.
"You're a fake! What do you think to achieve with a fake Battle Bond? You know you'll never be as strong as me and my Pokémon. Why are you doing this?"
"I always respected your kind somewhat. But you have weaknesses that can't be overcome. Letting power like this go extinct would be a waste when I can use it to achieve my goals. And you are going to aid me."
"Dream on!" Ash never helping a guy like him. Lysandre tried the same thing and he failed. The leader to him was just nothing more special than any other evil team or bad guy he ever met.
"I want to be remembered in history! To change Kalos into a region of strenght where the potential of all Pokémon will be revealed! The more conflict there is, the more people will fight and more like you will be revealed in their struggles! No more wasted potential by letting them do tricks or perform acts like in a circus! The strongest Pokémon in the world could be in the possession of a doctor and never use it! I will leave a legacy unlike any other!"
Just as delusional too.
"Who are you to tell Pokémon are only good for battle! Through my journey I met countless people and Pokémon who helped each other without using an attack! Breeders, Coordinators, Performers, Nurse Joy's with their assistants, singers, actors, researchers, scientists. I can go on forever! I love battling but I'd never force someone to do it if they don't want it!"
Ash thinking about all the people he's seen on his journey. A fair part of them were just happy to have their Pokémon as pets and friends just loving each other. They created and shared their happiness together in a different way he and his Pokémon did. Fusion has no right to talk about others the way he did while preaching about bringing out potential.
"You're to weak to use your strenght properly. Once I own you we won't have that issue."
"Can you battle already? Guy has a voice like nails on a chalkboard."
Nina had just about enough of it. Fusion blabbering on about people not using Pokémon for battle got on her nerves quickly. Her goal with her Pokémon at first was to create music everyone could enjoy. For him to be so dismissive of a goal not fixated on fighting she and Primarina took it personal.
The leader looked at the girl and got an idea.
"Ah yes, now I remember. The pack leader told me about what you did. For someone like you to beat both Mixture and Unit is quite a surprise. Tell me. How do you feel about ruling the Kalos region after my departure?"
"The no Mega Evolution thing is a nice perk. But everything else about you rubs me the wrong way. I'll pass." Giving her the same offer he did his knights it was to his surprise she didn't even question him and passed up on power so easy. Still her former point gathered curiosity.
"Oh. You don't like Mega Evolution?"
"It's something I can do without."
"Then maybe we can discuss some matters." Thinking he had a sort of leverage on her he might be able to use her for his own ends. If he can manipulate her in such a way he might get her to turn on the Greninja trainer. Fusion just needed to find out what makes her tick.
"There's nothing to talk about. Ready Ash?"
"Ready! Greninja, I choose you!"
Even with the type disadvantage there was only one choice to go with for him. For more than a month Ash and Greninja came to terms with what they are and learned the heritage of their abilities from Archer and Nina. Their first battle after the one with Nina and Primarina in the forest they were never more excited to be in one together even with the threat against them.
"Shiftry, a demonstration."
Extending his wings it showed off its wing span. Flapping them the wings created a gust of wind blowing hard at them. Pikachu held on to Ash's shoulder while Ash twisted himself to keep Pikachu on him shielding him from the wind. Nina and Primarina feeling it too their hair blew behind them. Feeling it and not just reading about it was a whole different sensation then they were expecting.
Whatever happens from here on out they all know this was going to be a battle they'd never forget.
Still haven't played Sword and Shield btw.
But I love the new Team Rocket vending machine which I saw in episode 3 of the new anime. It makes for a nice change instead of beating the same two mons over and over. More of that please.
