Barnabas, after remembering again the cover story that Will has given him, knocks on Collinwood door.
"I am Barnabas Collins. I believe that I am related to this family" he says to Hoffman
Hoffman stares at him. "Descendant of the Barnabas Collins who left years ago in a cloud?" she says, a bit hostile.
"I know that there is a story there, but the details were lost... I trust that you will not blame the children for the failings of their father"
Hoffman welcomes him and brings him to Elizabeth, who welcomes him more brightly. "We were not aware of this branch" she says, "but you are welcome. Where are you staying?"
"With the Loomises. I am a fan of his writing, and we have corresponded over the years. I came upon some money and decided to treat myself to visit him, and the place where my ancestor came from"
After a few more pleasantries he leaves, and Elizabeth talks with Hoffman "He is the one we need. It is a sign. He was called back for a reason"
"Not him, his ancestor"
"It makes no difference. He is to be Chosen"
"And what of Quentin? What will Vicky say?"
"Vicky can be made reasonable."
As they talk they hear a car approach. They go down to meet Quentin and his new wife, Maggie.
