For a first effort this,
Feels kinda last ditch
I guess this just
Got kinda drastic
Trust us you just fell off the bus, suckers
Yeah, well, payback is a mother f*****

Marianas Trench "Desperate Measures"

He should've been in his rack, getting sleep before their first offensive of this war. However, he knew sleep wouldn't come even if he tried. To many emotions were swirling around inside of him. Too many thoughts were churning in his head.

So, it didn't surprise him that his feet naturally found their way to the hangar deck. Walking over to his Viper, the one his father had once flown, Lee perched himself on one of the storage boxes left by the mechanics. He knew he needed to ground himself before tomorrow's mission and this was the only place he would be able to accomplish that.

The idea of attacking a Cylon base was crazy to begin with. They were one ship up against who knew how many Cylons. The Cylons had already devastated the colonies. If any other Colonial forces had survived they were scattered across space. The Cylons clearly had the upperhand.

But Lee knew his father had a point - a schoolyard bully would continue to hound you until you turned around and stood up to him. Lee had found that out first hand when he was in the fourth grade. After he had punched Robbie Crabbe on the playground after the bigger kid had tormented him half the school year, the other kids had tended to leave him alone.

However, this was bigger than a schoolyard disagreement among kids. This was life and death.

And yet the Cylons had resources that they could use. Nor would the Cylons leave them alone. Perhaps it was time they made a stand.

However, Starbuck's plan was crazy. Of course, he didn't expect anything less from her. She was a gifted pilot, but definitely had a few screws loose. In fact, it almost didn't seem like a plan at all but instead a frantic attempt at making something work. Then again, perhaps that's exactly why it would work. It wasn't something that the Cylons would be expecting. Just like his own logical way of looking at a battle was having trouble accepting her outside the box attack plan, the machine logic of the Cylons wouldn't be sure how to react either.

Or at least that was the hope. It was, after all, the only advantage they would have other than surprise.

They needed a victory - not only for supplies but also for morale. Delivering that victory now lay squarely on his shoulders and he knew that most of his crewmates didn't believe he could pull it off. He couldn't blame them. They didn't know him like they had gotten to known Starbuck. It was only natural that they would trust her skill more than his.

Tomorrow wasn't just about a victory for the fleet. This was also his chance to show his new squadron his true ability. If he could pull this off tomorrow, then he knew all the questions they had about him would be answered.

Focusing on the Viper in front of him, Lee realized tomorrow was also about hopefully finally getting his father's approval once and for all. After all, the search for his father's approval was why he was even here to begin with.
