A/N: I don't know much about how IVF really works, I do know that not every couple is successful for the first time, or even the third time, I don't want to be insensitive so I'm not going to go into detail about a topic I'm not sure on.

"She hasn't left our room in three days Zee" Emma said as she ran her hand through her unruly hair, the bags under her eyes spoke volumes, she hadn't slept, she hasn't slept in three days, her wife was hurting, she was hurting, their kids knew something was up,

"I know Emma" Zelena said wrapping her arms around Emma, "we all knew there was no guarantee it would work the first time" Zelena said, Emma sighed, they had conceived first time, but three months in, Emma woke up in the middle of the night with a pool of blood in the bed, she had woken Regina who almost fainted, when they got to the hospital, Emma was told that she had miscarried, there was nothing that they could have done, to Regina, her world was torn apart, they had tried for months to get Emma pregnant, they were told that first time could happen but it was far and few between, so they hoped, two weeks after the home insemination, Emma tested positive, they waited until Emma's test results came back to be sure, but they where, they were pregnant, Emma was heartbroken, but Regina was inconsolable, yes Regina knew that not all first time insemination worked, but she had hoped this one would, they had not told Eve or Henry of their plans to have another baby, and Emma was glad, more than glad, she couldn't explain to them what was going on, what was happening with their Mom, Emma knew she should be feeling something more than this, but she was more interested in her wife, even though her wife couldn't conceive, Emma knew that Regina had blamed herself.

"We will try again baby" Emma said as she pulled Regina to her, Regina sighed and cuddled into her athletic wife, her hand stroking her abdomen subconsciously, Emma grasped her wife's' hand and brought it to her lips,

"I'm sorry Emma, I'm so so sorry!" Regina said, she knew her reaction should have been Emma's, but Emma had assured her that she was every bit their child's' mother too, and Emma would not be telling Regina how she should be grieving, they had used Regina's eggs, even though Regina could no longer bear children, her eggs could still be fertilised, and her reaction to losing their child was as understanding as Emma's, Emma had, to put it plainly, no reaction, she had no reaction when it came to her miscarriage, she was numb, she couldn't feel, she didn't know what to feel, she at first wanted to crawl into a corner and let it swallow her up, but she needed to be strong for Regina,

"I'm the" Emma swallowed hard, and Regina suddenly sat up, "I'm...th...the one who should be sorry" Emma said, trying and failing to hold back tears, Regina smiled down at her wife sadly, she knew Emma wasn't showing her true feelings, had not expressed how she was feeling, she was grieving in her own way, but she had not seen her cry, not seen her shed a tear, and that hurt her more, but now, seeing her wife's wall crumble, seeing her cry, her heart broke, she couldn't take it, she bundled Emma into her arms, as the blonde cried openly for the child they had lost, for the tiny human she had developed inside her, she cried for the life she wouldn't see grow, she cried for the face she wouldn't see, she cried for her wife, for the child she couldn't give her, she cried for Henry and Eve for the sibling they had wanted but wouldn't get, and she cried for herself, she cried for the child she had lost, her baby, the tiny human that was the missing piece to their family puzzel, the piece they didn't realise was missing the piece that connected everyone together, the piece that had both Emma and Regina, both Henry and Eve in it, and Emma weeped, she cried herself to sleep in the arms of the woman she loved more than anything else, and Regina held her, and rocked her and even cried with her, until the blonde finally gave in a sleep for the first time in three days.

"How are you doing?" Elliot asked as he handed Emma a cup of coffee, Emma sighed and reached for it,

"I don't even know El" Emma said honestly, "I cried myself to sleep in Regina's arms last night, it was the first sleep I've had in three days" Emma said taking a sip of coffee and wincing at the bitter taste as it hit the back of her throat,

"I know, Live locked herself in the study for two days when we miscarried the first time" Elliot said taking a sip of his own coffee, the NYPD detective had became one of Emma's best friends, along with his wife Olivia, who was also an NYPD detective, they, like Emma and Regina had tried for years to get pregnant but couldn't conceive, they tried IVF but after four failed attempts Olivia couldn't take it anymore, but then, while at a crime scene with a suspect who was possibly HIV positive, Olivia got her hand cut and had to get it looked at, Dr Warner, the medical examiner and close friend of Liv and Elliott's, had called both of them to her office,

"Melinda, what's wrong?" Olivia asked as she rushed into her friends office, the only reason they were ever here was to do with cases, Melinda smiled at both of them and motioned for them to take a sear,

"I ran some additional tests on your blood to make sure you didn't contract anything else" Melinda said handing Olivia a piece of paper, and waiting, a small smile gracing her face as she saw Olivia's eyes go wide,

"Wh...this can't be right?" Olivia said handing the paper to Elliot who stood up slowly and looking just as shocked as his wife, Melinda nodded,

"Congratulations, you're pregnant"

"We tried for years to get pregnant when we first got married, Liv was just a rookie cop when we first met, I'd been on the job five years before that, she was beautiful, sassy, quick, but beautiful, took me a while but I finally got her to agree to go on a date with me"

"She denied that charm" Emma said with a small laugh, Elliot laughed along,

"We got married a year later, I was so happy, I had a job I loved, a wife I loved even more, and we both wanted kids, so we started trying, months and months went by until we went to the doctor, he told us that nothing was wrong, Liv was ovulating normally, and my count was high" Elliot paused, "so we went for IVF, five or six times and nothing, I went to mass and I prayed, I asked GOD what had I done to deserve this, to not be able to give my wife what she truly desired" both Elliot and Emma sniffed, "couple days later Liv takes down a drug dealer and smashes him through some glass, both of them cutting themselves, Liv got tested for HIV, and some other tests where done, why she thought of testing to see if Liv was pregnant was one of them" Elliot said, laughing as he lifted his cup of coffee to his mouth, "I mean, a medical examiner telling you you're pregnant was not how I imagined it in my head" this caused Emma to almost choke on her coffee, a swift clap on the back from Elliot had her coughing, but only for a few seconds, "when Noah came, it was like my life was finally complete" Elliot said, finishing his cup of coffee and placing it in the bin a few feet away

"She's an amazing mother" Emma said motioning to the four people playing on the grass a few just in front of them, Eve kicked the ball to the black haired boy who was holding onto Olivia's hands, Henry grabbed onto Eve and swung her over his shoulder, Olivia looked over at the two people on the bench and smiled widely, Emma and Eliliot waved

"That she is"

Three Months Later

Regina sighed, it was three months since their first failed attempt, Emma was nervous, she didn't want to disappoint her wife again, she didn't want to have that heartbreak, but they were sat in the doctor's office ready to have their second IVF treatment, three months, they had waited three months, mostly because Emma wasn't emotionally ready to try again, Regina supported her wife decision, Emma wasn't ready to try again, and that was more than ok with Regina,

"How are you feeling my love?" Regina asked squeezing Emma's knee, Emma looked at Regina and smiled,

"Yeah, I'm just worried" Emma said, her hand encasing Regina's, "I just, I don't want to disappoint you if this doesn't work?" Emma said, Regina gripped Emma's hand tightly,

"My love, you will never disappoint me, if this doesn't work, then it wasn't meant to be" Regina said pulling Emma's head to rest on her shoulder as she kissed it.

"I'll see you in six weeks for blood tests Emma" Dr Lara Michaels said as she walked Emma and Regina to the reception, "just remember, relax, don't overwork your body, you can go back to work in two weeks, but no heavy lifting" she said with a smile, "Julie, have Emma booked in for follow up blood tests in six weeks" Julie said, smiling back at Emma and Regina as she signed a form, "good luck ladies"

"Are you ok for everything Mommy?" Eve asked, Emma chuckled, she was 'Ma' every other day, but when Emma or Eve was sick, she went back to Mommy, Emma pulled Eve into her lap and squeezed her daughter,

"I'm good baby" Emma said, they had decided not to mention to either Eve or Henry that a possibility of a sibling could happen, they didn't want to give them the hope, she couldn't explain it to them if they lost another child, if she lost another child, she just hoped that this time, there was someone out there would grant her wish.

"Mom is making lasagne" Eve said, curling into Emma who was running her hand through her hair, Eve reached down and pulled her bag into her lap, pulling out 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azakaban' both Emma and Eve's favorite, Emma chuckled,

"How many times have you read this book kid?" Emma said taking the book that Eve handed to her, Eve shrugged and snuggled into Emma as she opened the book and continued to read from where Eve had left off, '...don't you see, Peter betrayed you're mother and father, Sirus tracked Peter down'

The six week wait was the longest for Emma and Regina, neither woman could focus, Regina had insured that Emma worked from home for the first two weeks, doing paperwork or just reading or watching telly, after Emma worked back at the garage, but done oil changes and fixed tires, not working under any car, Regina couldn't focus when she was at work, being her own boss, like Emma had advantages, but when her business partner was her sister, she couldn't get away with an awful lot,

"I swear to god Zelena!" Regina said as she marched out of her office into her sisters who was currently on the phone,

"Mr Brooks, I will arrange a viewing for tomorrow with either myself or my sister" Zelena turned around in her chair to see her sister glaring at her in the doorway, "leave it with me Mr Brooks, speak soon" Zelena hung up and stood, "I'm going to take it from the glare that I have done, or haven't done something?" Zelena said,

"You booked a meeting with Robert Gold?" Regina said, Zelena looked to her sister with a raised eyebrow,

"Yes?"

"Zelena, Robert Gold is one of the most corrupt businessmen in NEw York City!" Regina said throwing the file at her sister,

"Regina!" Zelena said, "I'm not asking him to go into business with us!" Zelena said rounding her desk and walking to her sister, "he has viewing of the penthouse in Queens, his wife left him, he wants a fresh start" Zelena said, looking at her sister, who was taking deep breaths"what is going on with you?" Zelena asked grabbing her sisters hands,

"I...I'm sorry Zee, Emma, Emma was spotting this morning" Regina said, leaning into her sisters embrace,

"When do you guys go back to Dr Matthews?" Zelena asked trying to hide her own excitement in her voice, spotting was a good thing, Regina sighed,

"Monday morning, our appointment is a nine" Regina said, Zelena smiled,

"Being nervous is understandable honey" Zelena said, Regia pulled back and looked at her sister,

"I'm terrified, what if we are pregnant, but what something happens again?" Regina said, "I...I can't go through that again, I can't have Emma go through that again"

"Reg, I love you, I love Emma, I love your beautiful babies" Zelena said, "being terrified is understandable"

"If it doesn't work, I can't...I couldn't take that look on her face again," Regina said falling into her sisters arms, Zelena ran her hands up and down her back and kissed her head,

"We will all get through whatever hurdles you face, we are all with you, we're all in this, together"

"Are you guys ready?" Dr Matthews said as she rolled towards Emma, gloves on and needle in hand, Emma gulped and Regina squeezed her hand, Emma nodded and closed her eyes as Dr Matthews leaned closer with the needle to Emma's arm, extracting three vials of blood. "The results should be back in an hour, why don't you both go and relax in the waiting room, the canteen should be open for breakfast in the next twenty minutes", Emma stood and put her jacket back on as she linked her fingers with her wife's. They walked slowly down the three flights of stairs to the canteen and arrived just as it was opening for breakfast, canteen breakfast was not what Emma had in mind, she wasn't even sure if she could stomach it, but they had an hour to kill, an hour until they found of if they were pregnant.

"Ladies, hello again" Dr Matthews said as she walked into her office, walked around her desk and sat down, Emma and Regina smiled, "so the test today was to check Emma's HCG levels, which is the hormones that your body produces when pregnant, a positive test is a level anywhere above 5" Dr Matthews paused and then smiled widely at both women, "your level is at 23, congratulations ladies"

Emma and Regina stared open mouthed and wide eyed at their doctor who proceeded to tell the women to breathe.
