Harry was just ready for this night to be over with.
Throughout the night races from all around the country had been called allowing people to know that the RPR would keep their Senate Majority in the new session losing one seat along the way.
If Harry managed to win though the balance of power in the Senate would remain stable at 55/45.
Right now Harry was in the War Room as they pored over the results coming in turning the map full with the Senators and candidates who had won their races.
His race against Senator Maria Deraismes was still close with Harry currently having a one and a half-point lead.
He was talking about the results with his Campaign Manager Christophe Castaner when news came in over the radio.
"This just in with ninety eight percent of the vote counted we are able to project that Harry Delcour has unseated Incumbent Senator Maria Deraismes with 50.3 Percent of the vote to 47.4 Percent a narrow victory but Dumonte the less with almost all of the votes counted it can be projected that Harry Delcour will unseat Maria Deraismes and become the Senator-Elect from the Fiftyith District".
Upon hearing that news the War Room broke out in cheers with people laughing and congratulating Harry on becoming the only one to have defeated a UDF Senator in the 1999 Election Cycle.
Harry felt numb.
He had actually done it.
He had won the Senate Race.
Holly Fuck.
Soon someone pushed her way through the crowd.
It was RPR Press Secretary Geneviève Darrieusse.
"Congratulations are in order," She said "Do you have your legislative team set out yet," She asked.
Harry blinked.
Ah yes, each Senate Candidate was expected to have people lined up to serve on a potential legislative team after they were sworn in a week after the Election.
"Oh Yes I have those planned out," Harry said.
I would like my Chief of Staff to be Christophe Castaner my Scheduler to be Franck Riester my Legislative Director to be Anissa Khedher and my Press Secretary to be Sereine Mauborgne
"Ok" Geneviève nodded "I will get that worked out now".
Harry felt a tap on his shoulder.
It was Christophe.
"There is a floo call for you sir," He said, "It's from Éric Coquerel".
Senator Deraismes Campaign Manager !.
"I'm on my way," Harry said following his new Chief of Staff to one of the side Floo Chambers where a head was in the fire.
It was Senator Deraismes.
"Greetings Senator," Harry said, "What can I do for you on this fine day".
She seemed pained saying this but continued Dumontetheless "I wanted to congratulate you on a good campaign Mr. Senator Elect" She said.
"With my kids now old and moved out of the house, I have no problem conceding to you and knowing that I can go back home to spend more time with my family".
"Thank you, Senator," Harry said, "I wish you the best of luck in the future and I will see you on Inauguration Day".
She nodded "I look forward to it" Before her head disappeared back into the fire.
Harry let out the breath he did not know that he was consciously holding in.
He had done it.
He was going to be a Senator.
Wow.
As he talked with Castner a few more minutes he was interrupted by Appoline coming into the room.
He turned to thank her for the help during the campaign but Appoline stopped him.
"Fleur has gone to the hospital," Appoline said "She went into labor'.
Well fuck thats great.
The week after the election was exausting for everyone.
Fleur ended up giving birth to a healthy baby girl that they had decided to name Natalie.
And then shortly after that was done Harry was busy getting everything ready for his Inauguration as a Senator.
He had gotten his legislative staff together and had visited the Senate where he had chosen his desk on the Senate Floor and his new office in the Rotunda.
It was a daunting thing to look forward to but Harry was encouraged by the other Senators that warmly welcomed him and the other new Senators.
After he was sworn in the Senate would vote on the new president and the new Senators would find out their committee assignments.
Harry hoped that he got something good.
Now it was time for the day of the inauguration.
Despite having given birth just a few days ago though Fleur made sure that she was able to make it to Paris so that she could attend her husband's swearing-in ceremony.
Currently, they were standing near the door of the Senate Chamber.
For the opening day, the newly elected Senators would be called up to the floor of the Senate where they would be sworn in by the Dean of the Senate Michèle de Vaucouleurs in groups of four before they took their seats.
The Senate had a seniority system where the re-elected Senators would be sworn in first followed by the Senators who had held the seats of retiring Senators and then Senators who had flipped seats.
As part of that last group, Harry would be getting sworn in alongside Charlotte Fréhel Laurence Vichnievsky and Michèle Crouzet 3 people that had also flipped seats in the election.
Before he knew it his name was being called to come to the Senate Floor.
As they walked down the Senate Aisle Fleur held Harry's hand as they walked to the front of the Senate where Harry joined Fréhel, Vichnievsky, and Crouzet up on the floor.
Vaucouleurs looked at them.
"Please raise your hands," She asked.
Harry raised his left hand and listened to what the Dean had to say.
"Do you solemnly swear that you will support and defend France against all enemies, foreign and domestic and that you will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that you take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that you will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which you are about to enter:
"I do," The group said.
"Welcome to the Senate," She said, "Please be seated".
Harry held his arm around Fleurs waist as he walked to his desk.
Due to his new status, Harry was in the back of the Senate Chamber.
Harry and Fleur whispered quietly to each other until Dean Vaucouleurs opened the Senate Chamber.
"The first business of this chamber is to decide on a new president for this nation," She said "The Majority Party has nominated Senator Duverger and the Minority Party has nominated Senator Dumont for the position.
"The roll call will now be called and those responding to their names will respond in surname the nominee of their choosing".
"The Clerk will now call the roll".

After conferring with some other staff memebrs Vaucouleurs spoke again.
"The Teller and the Clerk agree in their tally that the number of votes cast is one hundred from which the number cast for Senator Duverger is fifty-five and the number cast for Senator Dumont is Forty-five".
"Maurice Duverger is then chosen as the new President of the French Republic".
They're were polite applause from the chamber at that.
And just like that Harry had cast his first vote as a French Senator.
But now it was time for the photo ops.
