As the school day ended, the streets began to fill up with parents collecting their children and teenagers with jobs rushing to work the moment the final school bell rang. Those whose workday ended were also coming out of their various workplaces and heading home. If one was to take a trip through the streets of Auradon they would find many people of every shape, size and colour all living together in harmony. Or at least, as much as they could. There was still a lot of prejudice over those who'd lived on the other side of the barrier for over two decades. It was no longer politically correct to refer to them as 'villains' as the word had too many negative connotations and so they were now known as 'Isle Folk'. Despite this though, their children still referred to themselves as 'VKs' as they saw it as an important part of who they are, a reminder of where they came from.
A few of these VKs were sat in an assembly hall as their guest speakers answered the final question from the audience before it was time to go. Two VKs, in particular, were able to make eye contact with one of the speakers who sent them a wink. Both Celia Facilier and Dizzy Tremaine rolled their eyes and gave him a small wave as the man they saw as an older brother walked off the stage.
The girl next to them squealed a little, "Oh, he totally just winked at me!"
Celia looked over at her with a raised eyebrow, "You are aware that that was aimed at me and Dizzy, right?"
Dizzy tried to hide her laughter as the girl sputtered in protest. Celia just rolled her eyes and turned to Dizzy, who was standing up and grabbing the hand of her boyfriend who was sat next to her throughout the assemblies.
"Who knew that one wink could send teenage girls so crazy about someone like Jay?" she asked, sarcastically as she stood up.
Dizzy and Jonathan laughed together and Jonathan wrapped his arm around Dizzy's waist, "Well, he is a star tourney player and a junior in college."
Both Dizzy and Celia raised an eyebrow at him, "Well if you think he's that great," Dizzy said, a hint of a grin on her face as they began to walk out of the assembly hall, "Why don't you date him?"
Jonathan laughed, "Because a, he's with Lonnie and she terrifies me, and b, I'm with you." He kissed her cheek in emphasis.
"I love how his first point was that Jay wasn't available," Celia pointed out, as the three of them walked down the halls of the school.
"Shut up, Tarot Girl," Jonathan said, letting go of Dizzy briefly to give Celia a little shove.
"Watch, Cricket Boy. I could easily turn you into a frog," she reminded jokingly.
Jonathan smiled, "Well, good thing I have true love's kiss on my side," he said, squeezing Dizzy back into his side, causing her to blush and giggle.
"You have to kiss a princess to break the Frog Curse," Dizzy reminded, wrapping her arm around his waist and leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Well, you're my princess," he said with a wink.
Celia pretended to gag, "You two are way too much sometimes."
"Aww, Celia," Dizzy said, looking at her, "You jealous?"
"Of that? Hell nah," the daughter of Dr Facilier replied. "I think I'd rather kiss a frog than have that much sap in one relationship." She then checked her watch, "I promised Dad that I'd meet him in town today, so I gotta run." She gave a wave and quickly headed towards the exit.
"Alone at last," Jonathan sighed, leaning his head onto Dizzy's.
Dizzy giggled a little, "Yeah, alone with hundreds of other students." She looked around the hall that was full of students moving to and fro as if proving her point.
"Well, we can rectify that," Jonathan said with a smirk, "Your room should be empty now that Celia is not here."
Dizzy gave him a big grin and the two of them began setting off to her room. It was the standard AP girls dorm room except that instead of everything being super pink, many colourful blankets and pillows were filling the room, with more dark reds and purples on Celia's side and more multi-coloured things on Dizzy's side. The bedside tables also obviously showed whose was whose as Celia's had many tarot cards and books on fortune telling whereas Dizzy's was covered in a multitude of accessories. Their desk, which was officially meant for things such as homework, was also covered in different bits and pieces, waiting to be formed into accessories. Dizzy was a little embarrassed by the mess but she and Jonathan had been dating for two years so she knew it wasn't that big of a deal any more.
"So, what did you think?" Dizzy asked, sitting down on her bed, "Of the boys' speeches?"
Jonathan smiled and sat down next to her, "I think that Jay is a surprisingly good public speaker and Carlos was very convincing as to why university is a good option."
Dizzy laughed and leaned into him, "I'm wondering if I should do a gap year, like Jay. Travel a bit. See the world."
Jonathan wrapped an arm around her and sighed gently, "Yeah, it would be fun. I can imagine you doing that. You've always been super adventurous."
"Well, after being stuck on the Isle for the most of your life, it tends to happen," Dizzy reminded with a smile. She turned so that she was facing him. "Do you think Celia's right? That we're too sappy?"
Jonathan shrugged, "Honestly, who cares? We're both happy and seeing as there is nothing toxic about our relationship, nobody else's opinion on it really matters."
Dizzy smiled at him and leaned in towards him as he did the same to her. They met in the middle with the briefest brush of their lips before parting again. Neither said anything as Jonathan studied Dizzy's face, whose eyes were closed in a gentle bliss. As her eyes fluttered open, his lips quirked up a bit before he kissed her again, a little longer this time. Dizzy responded happily and their kisses began increasing and growing more passionate and more intense with each one. Somewhere along the line, Dizzy ended up in Jonathan's lap and his hand in her hair, causing her pigtails to begin to fall out. Dizzy felt something with Jonathan that she'd never felt with anyone else. A sense of safety and comfort that seemed to only come from being in his arms. She trusted him and felt able to be vulnerable around him, in a way that she didn't feel able to be with anyone else. He'd seen her on her best days where she was all smiles and felt invincible but he'd also seen her with a tear-stained face and heard her broken sobs on the days where everything seemed a bit too much. She knew she could trust him, no matter what and that made her feel overwhelmed with love, something she tried to show to him in that moment, with every kiss shared between them.
"Woah, woah, woah!"
And that was the end of that. Dizzy and Jonathan jumped apart, accidentally knocking their heads together with a loud thump. They turned around and glared at the people in the doorway.
"What the heck do you think you're doing?" Jay asked, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow. Dizzy groaned, both in pain from the bump and partly because she was not in the mood for the over-protective-brother acts from the boys who had just barged into their room.
"Kissing my girlfriend?" Jonathan responded, rubbing his head. Dizzy put her face in her hands, feeling like a smart-ass response was probably not the best thing in this situation. To be honest, though, she couldn't blame him. The interruption was extremely annoying.
"You think you're funny, wise guy?" Jay responded, giving Jonathan a very clear watch your next words look.
Dizzy decided that it was probably best if she jumped in before anyone said anything stupid, "What do you want, Jay?"
"Carlos and I were coming to see you, seeing as we haven't seen you in a while and we're here anyway," he responded, nodding to the white-haired guy standing behind him, who also had his arms crossed.
"And you couldn't have texted? Asked me if I wanted to meet up with you guys? We could've caught up over hot chocolate instead of you barging into my room."
"Clearly it was a good thing we did," Jay argued, with Carlos nodding in agreement.
Jonathan blew out a puff of air, "You know what, I'm going to leave. Obviously, you guys will want to catch up so..." he got up and began heading for the door. However, he was stopped by Jay putting a hand on his chest.
"Yeah, I don't think so," he turned his slightly menacing look on Jonathan, "You and I are going to have a little chat about your intentions with Dizzy."
"My inten-we've been dating for two years!" Jonathan exclaimed in annoyance. "Didn't you get your fill of threatening me just before our first date?"
"And it apparently wasn't enough." Jay placed a hand on his bag and shoved him non-too-gently out of the door.
As soon as the door closed behind the boys, Carlos's stance dropped and he rolled his eyes. "Well, I guess that means I'd better play good cop."
"Good cop, bad cop?" Dizzy asked, "Really? We're two seventeen-year-olds making out, not some sort of criminals."
Carlos cracked a smile and went to sit down next to her, "I know, Diz. But someone has got to make sure that boy is okay after whatever Jay's putting him through."
"This is ridiculous, Carlos!" Dizzy exclaimed, frustratingly fixing her pigtails, "You guys know and like Jonathan. Why the protective big brother act?"
Carlos put an arm around her shoulders, "Jay can get a bit like that if he feels anything he loves is being threatened. It's difficult for him to trust people and he's very aware that even long term relationships could end in heartbreak."
Dizzy went to reply but the dorm room door opened and Jay walked in followed by Jonathan who just looked done with everything and everyone.
"Okay, so now that that's over with," Jonathan sighed, "Can I please go now?"
Carlos got up and walked over to him, "First you and I should probably have a little chat." Carlos was much gentler with Jonathan as he led him out of the room. Jonathan looked over to Dizzy, pleading for help. Dizzy just shrugged, helpless to say anything.
Jay smirked until the door closed which was when his smile dropped off of his face. "I'm guessing that I owe you an apology?" Jay said, "I know he's a good guy."
Dizzy nodded, "Yeah. He's a great guy." She then sighed gently, "Look, Jay, I get that you're worried about me but if he breaks my heart, I can handle it. It's always a risk when it comes to relationships but I was okay with taking that risk." She got up and walked towards him. "And if he hurts me in any way, I'll punch him myself." She then smirked and put her arms around Jay's waist, "Then I'll give my big brother a call, okay?"
Jay smiled down at her, "Yeah, okay. You remember those self-defence moves I taught you?"
Dizzy laughed as she let go, "The way you drilled them into me? Like I'd ever forget." She then smiled at him, "Thanks for being the big brother I never had, though. I know I can rely on you if I ever need someone to be taken care of."
Jay smiled and ruffled her hair, causing her to bat his hand away, "You're a pretty good little sister too."
"I'm not that little any more, Jay," Dizzy reminded.
"Well..." Jay hovered a hand over her head to emphasise the fact that she was 'vertically challenged'.
"Oh," she frowned at batted his hand away, causing them both to laugh a bit, "Stop being so mean."
"Hey, I'm your big brother. I'm not supposed to be nice to you," he replied with a grin.
Dizzy rolled her eyes but said nothing. Despite the way-too-overprotective streak, she knew that she could never ask for a better brother than Jay. And Carlos, she reminded herself as he walked in sans Jonathan.
"Yeah, he's long gone," Carlos said, pointing to the empty space behind him, "He promised he'd text you though, Diz."
Dizzy rolled her eyes but laughed alongside the boys. Yep. Her brothers were pretty great.
Hey, Randomn, look! I did it! Lol, I was really pleased with how this one turned out, despite it being quite dialogue heavy so I really hope you like it as much as I do.
