The day was warm and sunny, with a few fluffy, white clouds drifting across the sky. In Auradon Prep, students clustered around, all enjoying the fact that the last bell of the week had finally sounded and it was the weekend. There was a clamour as students went to find friends and significant others, everybody streaming from different classrooms and heading in different directions.
The star tourney player came out of his classroom and followed the stream of students heading outside to enjoy the sun. Once out, he scanned the area for a dark-haired girl who had promised to meet him outside once class was over, as they were on opposite ends of the main building for their lessons.
Finally, he spotted her, chatting and laughing with one of their friends as they walked his way. His girlfriend turned her head and spotted him, waving when she saw him. He waved back and headed towards her.
"Hey, babe," she said, kissing his cheek.
"Hey, Lon," he replied, slinging his arm around her shoulder. He then greeted Jordan, who returned the greeting before carrying on her conversation with Lonnie. The three of them made their way to a patch of shade, where they sat down on one of the picnic benches, Jay and Lonnie with their arms around each other's waists. As time went on, more of their friends joined them. Carlos and Jane were looking sickeningly sweet with their matching dopey grins and their hands clasped together; Freddie arrived loudly complaining about someone who had managed to book her favourite music room before she had the chance; Evie had seen them and come to say hi before rushing off as she had yet another appointment with a customer.
The friends all chatted lightly, enjoying being in the company of one another. At some point, Jay made a slightly self-deprecating joke: "I swear, you must have banged your head or something considering that you actually agreed to go out with me."
Lonnie pulled away from him slightly, an eyebrow raised, "Keep talking like that and I won't be kissing you for a week." Her tone was serious but a glint in her eye told him that she was kidding.
Jay grinned, "Please, you wouldn't be able to go a week without kissing me." And the moment those words came out of his mouth, everyone there, including himself, knew he'd just made a big mistake. Carlos face-palmed, Jane shook her head disappointedly, Freddie rolled her eyes and Jordan leaned forward as though she was going to miss something big if she blinked.
"Is that a challenge?" But there was no way he was going to back down now.
"And what if it was?"
Lonnie regarded him for a little while before replying, "Okay, deal. One week. If I manage it, I get to kidnap your red beanie for a week."
Carlos's eyes widened in surprise. Jay very rarely parted from his beanies, keeping all of them safe in a drawer when he wasn't wearing them. And the red one was his favourite, having been a comfort throughout his life.
Jay considered this for a bit, "Okay. And if I win, I get to be captain for a week."
Lonnie thought about it before nodding, "Deal. It is now 4:34," she said, looking at her phone, "So at this time, next Friday, the winner will collect their reward."
"Or we could just end this now," Jay said with a smirk, before leaning forward and kissing her lips, too quickly for her to react. "I win."
Lonnie glared at him, "You kissed me. I didn't kiss you. The bet is that I can't kiss you for a week. And because you tried to cheat, it's now going to include any and all kisses, for example, cheek or hand."
"What?" He exclaimed in annoyance, "Come on!" He looked over to his other friends but they all just shrugged and agreed with Lonnie. Jordan even asked if she could film this week and make it next Friday's web-show.
When she told Jordan that she could, Lonnie's phone pinged with a notification and when she looked at it, she saw that Jordan had tagged her in something on InstaRoyal.
A challenge has been issued between these two superstar sporting personalities: Lonnie cannot kiss Jay in any way, shape or form for a week. If she wins, look out for her wearing a red beanie the following week. If he wins, be careful, Fighting Knights. You'll have a new captain for the week. Place your bets people! Follow me for live updates on here and at 4:34 on Friday, I will announce the winner live on my channel.
The picture above the caption was of Lonnie and Jay, facing each other just now. Judging by the fact that Jay had a subtle, sly smirk on his face, it was before him trying to cheat.
"Really, Jordan?"
Jordan shrugged. "It's good stuff for my channel! Come on, people love it when you two challenge each other to things. It's good entertainment."
Lonnie rolled her eyes, "Whatever." She then stood up, "I'm going to head off. I have some homework to do."
She put her hand on Jay's shoulder but stopped herself from leaning down to kiss him on the cheek. Habitual kissing. She'd forgotten about that. This may be a bit harder than she thought. Instead, she just smiled and squeezed his shoulder before leaving him with his friends.
Jay looked over to his other friends, "This will be easy," he grinned, before getting up, "I'm gonna go as well. See you guys later."
As soon as he was out of sight, the four who were there turned to each other, "He's not gonna win," Carlos said, "I've never met someone more stubborn than Lonnie."
"But Jay's really smart," Jane reminded, "He might find a way to get her to kiss him. Not to mention, I've noticed that she sometimes kisses him without thinking."
They all looked at each other, thinking about it hard before Freddie snorted a laugh, "This is going to be so fun."
Jordan also laughed, "Okay, guys, if you see anything good, film it and send it to me. I want to fit in as much as I can for the web-show."
The other three agreed that they would and then the topic of conversation changed.
The next day was pretty uneventful. Jay and Lonnie hung out together throughout the day and they only came close to kissing once. Lonnie had managed to restrain herself enough to avoid almost all habitual kisses. However, she almost lost when Jay leaned his face close to her whilst goofing off. Usually, when this happened, she'd peck some part of his face (whether it be nose, cheek or mouth) and push him away with a giggle. She just about managed to avoid the kissing part and shoved him away a little harder than she normally did, though both still laughed about it.
Not long after that happened, they both received a notification saying they'd been tagged in something and, lo and behold, it was a picture of Jay leaning very close to Lonnie with a caption of: Careful, Li! You almost lost there. Don't want this to be over before it really starts.
Lonnie rolled her eyes and looked over at Jane, who was the only one sitting in a place that could allow the picture to be taken at the angle it was.
Jane shrugged, "She asked us to help her." was her only explanation.
The following day was a bit more interesting. During the night, Jay had ended up thinking about all the ways that Lonnie would kiss him out of habit and had plans to exploit them. On top of that, he'd also decided that he wasn't going to kiss her either because if she began missing him kissing her, she was more likely to break and kiss him first.
Throughout the day, Jay would do the things he knew may cause her to kiss him, whether it was leaning his cheek slightly her way when she left his side or wrapping his arm around her shoulders whilst holding one of hers. This particular move usually led to her running a thumb over the small scar on the back of his hand before pressing a gentle kiss to it. Sometimes, she wouldn't even realise that she'd do it.
But this time, she stopped when she was halfway to bringing his hand to her lips and Jay felt really disappointed. Not just because she was still winning the bet but because he didn't realise how much he loved those little kisses. They were probably his favourite ones. Whenever she would trace one of his scars and then press a kiss to it, Jay would feel more loved than ever. Because it wasn't a "Where did you get this?" trace of the scar, and it wasn't an "I kissed part of your body and my lips happened to land on your scar" kiss. It was an active acknowledgement of the fact that he had scars followed by a reassurance that she loved him anyway, no matter how broken, no matter how scarred.
And, being the amazing woman she was, Lonnie seemed to know that his disappointment ran further than just the competition, so she just kept running her thumb over the scar, again and again. Each stroke a soft whisper of "I love this part of you, too".
Unfortunately for Jordan, nobody was able to catch Lonnie's near-slip-ups on camera so there was no InstaRoyal post that day, much to many followers disappointment.
As the next day classes were back, Jay didn't have many chances to try and get Lonnie to kiss him so he began trying harder. He would purposefully bang his hand against something or hit his head, as that would usually result in a giggle and a kiss on the injured spot from Lonnie. Unfortunately, she was too smart for him and would just roll her eyes at him before moving on. The InstaRoyal post was a picture of his slightly offended face as Lonnie walked away, captioned with: Better luck next time, Jay. Might want to get ready to give up the beanie.
By Tuesday, Jay thought he might actually be beginning to go mad. He missed her kisses so much, missed how they made him feel like he was on top of the world, missed how they managed to keep him grounded at the same time. He tried everything he could think of to make her kiss him but absolutely nothing. That night, he was tagged in another Instaroyal post, though this one was just him sat in one of his classes, a miserable look on his face and no Lonnie in sight: Is it just me or is Jay looking like he might give up with the challenge early? Is it possible he misses his girlfriend that much or is this just a tactic to try and get her to lose? What do you guys think?
Wednesday was a surprisingly hard day, not just for Jay, but also Lonnie. Lonnie had, of course, noticed that Jay had stopped kissing her as well. She wouldn't admit it to him, ever, but his cheek kisses meant a lot to her. Nothing filled her heart like a casual peck on the cheek when he met up with her or left her side. He wasn't super physically affectionate at first and would often look slightly uncomfortable with PDA. Now, it was with ease that he'd just kiss her cheek. It made her feel so loved because he wasn't even thinking about it. It was an automatic thing; he was so used to showing her a little bit of affection that it didn't even take a second thought to do it. She couldn't wait till Friday so that she could kiss him and receive his kisses once again. Before that, she'd just have to deal with it because there was no way she was losing this bet. None whatsoever. The caption of that day read: Is Lonnie longing for this to be over? Will she break before the deadline? And the photo was her with a slight yearning look directed at Jay. Lonnie had groaned when she saw the photo, knowing that Jay was going to be insufferable (he was. And it was incredibly hard to not just kiss him to shut him up).
Thursday had been incredibly uneventful because Jay and Lonnie both had classes all day, then Jay had tourney, then Lonnie had dance practice whilst Jay was at dinner and when she went for dinner, he was already long gone. There was no InstaRoyal post that day, so neither was able to see if the other had shown any signs of missing the other.
Finally, it was Friday. People kept encouraging Lonnie that she was almost there, causing her to roll her eyes at them. Jay, on the other hand, was getting people trying to help win just before the deadline. He was incredibly irritable with them, often barking at them to shut up. He had the beanie in his bag, ready to hand over, knowing that there was no way he was going to win now. He just wanted the challenge over. It was a stupid bet to make, he should've known that not only was he not going to win, but that the punishment of being in this challenge and not being allowed to kiss his girlfriend was much worse than giving his beanie to someone else. He'd honestly thought that he stood a chance but he should've known how stubborn Lonnie could get.
The time ticked by and it was finally the final bell of the day. They still had thirty-four minutes from the moment the bell rang but they met up where they were supposed to, Lonnie smirking and Jay feeling thoroughly defeated. They made conversation with all the friends who had come to sit with them. Once it was five minutes before the deadline, Jordan began her live-feed, talking to her followers and talking to Jay and Lonnie, asking them how it felt that there was no way that Jay would win now.
There was a countdown for the last ten seconds, in which Jay simply pulled out the red, worn out beanie, ready to hand it over.
"And it is officially 4:34!" Jordan exclaimed, "Jay, hand the winner her prize."
He held out the beanie to her and she took with a grin. She then placed it on her head and shot a smile at the camera, "We all knew it was going to happen," she said.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Jay said before grabbing her by the waist and pulling her towards him, crashing his lips to hers in a fierce kiss.
"Woah," Jordan said, turning the camera back to herself, "That is a week of built-up tension, right there."
"Shut up, Jordan," both Lonnie and Jay said, as they parted.
Lonnie then grabbed Jay and began walking away, "Your room is empty," she was heard telling him.
Jordan raised an eyebrow and turned the camera on Carlos, "Yeah, uh, you may not want to go to your room for a while, buddy."
Carlos just groaned and put his face in his hands.
