Chapter 180 Biopsy
Unfortunately Dean got to pick up more cooking tips very early the next morning up again with the bucket between his knees in a familiar pose. He had managed to slip out without disturbing Sam or Bobby in Sam's old room. Consequently he was very tired the next day when they went in for the, hopefully, final biopsy. As ordinary as he felt he managed to get both Sam and Bobby into the small waiting room that Sam had sat nervously in at the beginning of his treatment. Sam marveled at how different he felt now that the treatment was drawing to a close. He was still worried about Dean and missed him on a deeper level. Bobby seemed to know to keep quiet and was just there for silent support.
Sam was soon helping Dean dress and after a quick visit from Jane they were off again. Sam received another hug from Dean in the dining room but this time it was warm and happy rather than the sadness at the other end of Dean's treatment. Bobby ended up joining in after giving them some time alone. They celebrated with a beer out on the deck and Dean again nodded off and had Sam see him to their bed. As it had been a normal Biopsy they were not due to see Jane until Tuesday giving them a long weekend to ponder. Sam decided that he would distract Dean as best he could.
He was sitting scanning through the paper with Bobby on the back deck when Bobby grunted at him.
"You looking for something to do this weekend?"
"Yeah, I want to keep Dean busy, if I can."
"What was Dean's recovery like after the last biopsy?"
"Pretty good, you know, considering."
Bobby screwed up his face in thought. "I might have something you can do short term." Bobby went out to his car and returned half an hour later.
Sam had gone inside and made coffee when it looked like Bobby was coming back inside.
"What do you think about Manatiou Springs?"
"Its local right?" Sam had seen the signs mentioning the town closer to the west near some ski fields.
"Sure is. Max Irvine has a cabin in the Mountains near there. The only catch is there is a hunt on the way. So if you want, a no cost weekend."
"You gonna do this hunt anyway?"
"Would have done it alone on the weekend sometime on the way home. He knew I was down this way and left a couple of messages."
"If Dean agrees some snow might be nice. Not sure about the hunt though."
Bobby sat down in front of his coffee. "Well you guys are going back to hunting soon anyway. This way we can ease Dean in by letting him sit in the car and keep watch".
"Like Dean will sit in the car and wait like a dog," Sam grinned," you would be better off leaving me in the car as well. I must be so out of condition."
"Even if you did nothing for the months you have been off the road you would still be way fitter than most hunters. Don't forget a lot of hunting's brain work. "
"Well it sounds good Bobby. It might be nice just being in the woods for the weekend. When can we leave?"
"As soon as Dean is feeling up to it."
"Well I'm up now if you want to head out." Dean was leaning against the doorframe watching them with his bare T Shirt arms crossed.
"I was thinking after dinner. Sam and I could do the hunt then I could peel off home."
"You want to hunt in the daytime?" Sam questioned.
"It's a cursed object in a museum and it will be night by the time we get going. Dean was doing chicken wasn't he?"
"Sticky miso ginger chicken wings". Sam grinned knowing Bobby had seen Dean do the prep work earlier.
