THO12120445: Here is the next update
Reed was packing up his presentation after what happened with Victor. "Reed, he knew about NASA. How the hell did he know about NASA?" I was hissing at Reed. "Wouldn't be surprised that he made the call to shut us down." Uncle Ben grumbles as we were leaving Victor's conference room. "Guys, think about all the people we'll help if this works. We got what we wanted. That's enough." Reed says.
"Yay, a few days with the biggest asshole in all of New York, if not the world. What's the worst that can happen?" I say, sarcastically, as we have exited the conference room.
We made it to the elevator, where Sue also joined us as well. She pressed the button on the same floor that we were going to. "Reed, you should know that those solar winds have been picking up speed." Sue spoke up as soon as the elevator door closed. "I've factored them into my coordinates." Reed responds to her. "Right, of course you did." Sue says. I didn't catch on what she's saying, but was brought back into the conversation when Uncle Ben asks a very important question.
"When are we leaving?" my uncle asks. "I'll be scheduling the launch, so you can call me in the morning for resources and crew." Sue says as she gave Reed her business card. "I think I remember the number." Reed says, confidently. "It's been changed." Sue says.
"Ouch." I say, quietly, with the only person hearing that is Ben. Reed takes the card. Ben was clearing his throat and gestured towards Sue. "As far as crew, I was wondering if Ben could pilot the ship." Reed suggested. "We already have a pilot on our payroll, but you're welcome to ride shotgun. Remember my little brother, Johnny?" Sue asks, and that's when my hearing blurred, because all it could hear is the increasing palpitations of my heart.
Through my blurred vision, as if it was tunnel vision, I saw that elevator door open and I didn't waste any time to exit out of the elevator and go to the nearby women's bathroom. I was trying hard to breathe, but I couldn't, due to my tightening chest and my tears streaming down my face.
Ever since high school ended, I thought I was over the one chink in my armor, the boy I've known since I was 13 years old and the same boy that I fell in love with, Johnny Storm. But, clearly I wasn't.
"Sweetie." I could hear Sue say as she was putting a hand on my shoulder to see if I am alright. "I-If you told me he was coming, I would've backed out." I said, trying my hardest to breath and calm down. "Jess," Sue was about to say, but I didn't want to hear it.
"You know what, I need a ticket back to England. Just forget everything and get back to work." I was saying, but Sue prevented me from leaving. "Okay, last time I checked, you're doing this for Ben and Reed, right?" Sue says. "Yes, but…" I was about to say, but she cuts me off. "It's only a few days in space. After that, you can avoid him as much as you can." she says.
"I've spent years trying to get over him, you know. And when you say his name, it's like a chip in my brain is activated. I gave up everything for him, and he repays me by breaking my heart." I told her as we were leaving the bathroom. "Believe me, I'm not happy about what he did." Sue says as we left the bathroom. "I will see you on the launch site tomorrow." she says as she walks away from me.
"Jess." I could hear my uncle call out as he came up to me, with Reed in tow. "I'm fine, guys. I'm fine." I told them. "I'm so sorry, Jess. If I would've known, then I would've never called you up in the first place." Reed says, sincerely. "Guys, can we just get back to the Baxter Building." I say to them, feeling emotionally drained after what has just conspired within the bathroom.
They say nothing and we get back to the Baxter Building. And on the way back, it was nothing but silence. From my left when we were in that taxi at that time, I could feel Ben fuming, but I don't know what it would be from.
Whether it be from Johnny annoying him ever since his stint in NASA or what happened between Johnny and I in high school.
Before I could go into the apartment complex, I can faintly hear Ben say, "If that pipsqueak even goes into a 3-foot radius of Jess, I'm wringing his neck."
