"I can't believe it! We're really here at UA High!"
These were the words of one Ochako Uraraka as she and her friends Izumi Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugou, and Himiko Toga, basked at the vast building before them. It was already exciting when they came for the Entrance Exam but now, they were here as official students in the Hero Course.
"I know, it sure is something, isn't it?" Spoke the voice of Ben Shigura as he and his fellow Deities walked in. Katsuki immediately recognized Mugino and Kakine and arched an eyebrow.
"So, you two got in as well?"
Kakine chuckled. "What? Did you think we wouldn't?"
Izumi smiled at what she could guess were going to be her fellow classmates as she offered her hand. "Hi, my name is Izumi Midoriya. Yes, THAT Midoriaya. No, I do not want to talk about it and yes, bringing it up WILL end with me kicking your asses."
There was a silence before Accelerator chuckled. "I like her already."
"We didn't get properly acquainted last time! I'm Himiko Toga! Call me Himiko, because my parents are dead to me!" Himiko said happily as she excitedly shook the hands of the closest person, which happened to be Misaka.
"Charmed, I'm Misaka Mikoto."
"I'm Ochako Uraraka and this grumpy face is Katsuki Bakugou!" Ochako introduced both her and the explosive blonde, who simply grunted in response.
"Don't go thinking you're better than us, I'll crush you flat."
Accelerator grinned as he walked up to Katsuki, his smile turning slightly feral. "I'd like to see you try, Pomeranian!"
A vein bulged in Katsuki's forehead as he was about to retort before Star Platinum manifested and held them both away from each other as Izumi gave them both stern looks.
"Don't go there! We're all Hero Students, aren't we?"
Ben nodded in agreement. "Yes, let's find our way to our class. What do you have?"
"We all have Class 1-A."
"No way! So do all of us!" Sunset laughed as eleven of the Deities showed their cards except for Merlow.
"What about you, Toaster?"
"Well, since I'm technically a robot who was probably once a weapon of mass destruction, I don't count as a student but I'm still allowed to attend."
After all of them finished introducing themselves, Izumi, her friends, and the Deities all headed inside the building, looking around for their class. On the way, they ended up bumping into another familiar face.
"Gah, such misfortune! Oh, hey, are you guys looking for Class 1-A as well?" Said one Touma Kamijou as the group before him all nodded their heads.
"Uh, guys? I think I found it." Ochako chimed in as everyone turned to see a giant door with '1-A' written on it in big bold letters.
"Guess it must be for students with Gigantification Quirks."
"Or those who are just freakishly tall."
The group opened the door to see nobody else was around and that the room itself was quite spacious. 34 seats were all satiated in neat rows. Katsuki simply walked over to one of the desks and sat down, propping his feet up like he owned it while Himiko happily hopped into his lap instead of going to her own seat. Lucy calm sat down on one of the desks by the window with Shanoa sitting in front of her and Mugino sitting behind her. Misaka sat next to Shirai with Shokuhou sitting behind the former while Ben took one of the desks in the back.
Soon, a few more people came into class. Ben, from his seat in the back, inspected a few of them with interest. One had the head of a raven and was rather lanky while another had a thick tail with blonde fur at the end. He smiled when he recognized Kouji Kouda, the rock-headed boy he helped during the Entrance Exam.
One of the last to arrive was the boy with glasses and neatly combed blue hair, who immediately zipped towards Katsuki with a peeved expression on his face.
"Get your feet off the desk this instant! Don't you know it's disrespectful to our predecessors who sat in those desks before us?!"
"Ha? The hell you say, Four Eyes?!" Katsuki sneered as he pretended not to hear him while holding a hand to his ear while Himiko stuck her tongue out at the boy. Touma groaned as he slammed his head into his desk, remembering his less than stellar encounter with that boy back in the Entrance Exam.
"Hey, you're the guy who helped me out in the Exam! I still owe ya one for backing me up there!" Rikidou Sato, a boy with large lips, said to Accelerator, who simply rolled his eyes.
"Just did what anyone could do. Besides, it wouldn't be fair to have someone end up dying during an exam, right?"
Suddenly, Ben felt his Observation Haki kick up as he stood up in his seat. Everyone turned to him in confusion as he looked towards something. Everyone followed his gaze to see what seemed to be some kind of giant yellow caterpillar. Turning around, the 'caterpillar' revealed itself to actually be a man with scruffy black hair, tired eyes and was currently drinking a juice pouch.
"It took you all 10 seconds to get organized. If you think this is just some pleasure joint, then get out, this is the Hero Course."
"Ummm...who are you?" Sunset asked awkwardly as the man finished his juice pouch while slightly unzipping the sleeping bag he was in.
"My name is Shota Aizawa and I will be your Homeroom Teacher starting today."
Without another word, Aizawa threw out a large bundle to the students, revealing it to be gym clothes.
"Put these on and meet me at the Training Field outside. Don't waste my time, got it?"
It took everyone a while to find the right gym clothes in their matching sizes but soon they found them, got dressed and headed to the training field. Merlow was the only one not wearing gym clothes because he was a robot and did not require them.
Needless to say, what Aizawa was requesting of them was quite sudden. "A Quirk Apprehension Test? What about Orientation?"
Ochako was the one to ask this question as Aizawa gave a stoic glare her way before responding. "We don't have time for such things. The time to learning how to be a Hero is short and we can't waste a single precious second. We'll be having 6 different tests to see where you kids place."
After finishing his explanation, Aizawa turned to Ben and tossed him a softball that seemed to have a black metal band around it.
"Shigura, you were one of the top scorers in the Entrance Exam, what was your record back in your Middle School?"
"At Maz Kanata Academy? Probably around 83 meters or something, without my Quirk."
"Well, try using your Quirk this time. Considering Maz Kanata Academy is one of the few middle schools that allow students to freely use their Quirks as long as it is for academic or training reasons, this test can be seen as where you've improved."
Ben nodded as he stepped into the pitching circle before looking to the sky and bending down, punching a single fist into the ground as his legs compressed before pumping, as if they were like industrial grade pumps. His skin turned a hot pink and steam began emitting off his back as he reared his arm back, causing it to stretch like it was made of rubber as he held the ball firmly in his grip before snapping back and shooting it like a missile.
The ball flew through the sky, punching a hole into one of the clouds as everyone except the Deities stared in awe. Even Katsuki had a mildly impressed look as Aizawa took out a smartphone and showed the distance Ben scored.
"Whoa! 1022.5 meters?! That's insane!" Shouted Denki Kaminari, the boy Misaka, Ben, Merlow, and Accelerator met in the Entrance Exam.
"Trust me, Kaminari-Kun. I can match that." Misaka said with a witty smile towards the electric boy as he awkwardly laughed in response.
"As you can see, we here at UA High will be teaching you to use your Quirks to work in future heroic development. This test is to make sure we all know where you stand." Aizawa explained.
"Sweet! That sounds awesome!" A boy with straight blocky teeth, elbows that were shaped like tape dispensers and straight black hair said excitedly.
"Yeah! This is gonna be so fun!" Squealed a girl with pink skin, black eyes with amber irises, frizzy hair, and a pair of crooked horns poking out.
Aizawa gave those two a glare in response. "Awesome? Fun? Alright, if that's how you feel, then how about this; Any students who don't show any potential at all will be EXPELLED."
This shocked everyone except for the 12 Deities and a girl with black hair in a spikey ponytail.
"Hmmm...he's either serious, or he's bluffing..." Ben whispered to Kakine, who nodded.
"Indeed. I've looked him up, that's the Erasure Hero: Eraserhead. In his previous year of working here, he expelled the entire class because they lacked potential. Thankfully, I think we can impress him."
"You think he could be lying as well?" The ponytail girl said as Ben nodded while giving her a reassuring wink, causing her to look away with a small blush. Aizawa then focused his gaze on Izumi, Katsuki, Ochako, Himiko, and the Deities.
"I've heard plenty about you fifteen the most. I'll be looking at how you do extra critically, understand? Also, before you call me out on ignoring you, Merlow, I already know how dangerous you can be, so be grateful we're letting you stay."
Izumi, Ochako, Sunset, and Shirai gulped nervously while the rest remained impassive. Ben stretched his arms high and tilted his head from side to side to get the kinks out as Katsuki, Accelerator, and Kakine all just smirked, as if excepting their teacher's challenge.
"Welcome to the Hero Course!"
The first test was the 50-Meter Dash where the students had to use their Quirks to get the shortest time possible. Ben was up first next to Shirai and the two nodded before Ben used a combination of the Kilo-Kilo Fruit and the Ton-Ton Fruit in order to decrease his weight while using the Float-Float Fruit to fly across, earning himself a score of 2.15 seconds. Shirai simply teleported in short bursts, getting 1.34 seconds.
Katsuki stood next to Izumi and leaped across while propelling himself with his explosions. Izumi simply summoned The World and it froze time around her as she simply walked to the finish with her hands in her pockets and then smirked as time resumed just as Katsuki crossed the finish line.
"Katsuki Bakugou; 4.13 seconds. Izumi Midoriya; 0.02 seconds." Buzzed the tracking robot.
Kakine sprouted his Dark Matter wings and flew across the track while the boy with glasses charged after him, moving at super speeds due to engine-like growths in his calves.
"Kakine Teitoku; 3.21 seconds. Tenya Iida; 3.04 seconds."
Kakine shook Tenya's hand with a smile. "An impressive Quirk you have there. Are you perhaps related to the Turbo Hero: Ingenium?"
The bespectacled speedster looked a little awkward at the question. "Yes, he's my older brother."
"Then, you certainly are quite a step ahead in the game."
Lucy was paired up with the same effeminate blonde boy she met at the Entrance Exam. As she used her Vector Arms to fling herself across, the boy turned around and jumped into the air before firing a laser from his belly button, sending him flying across as he stopped to land before jumping up and doing so again.
"Lucy Kamihara; 2.55 seconds. Yuuga Aoyama; 5.51 seconds."
"Using my beautiful laser for more than a second hurts my tummy."
Lucy simply ignored him as the boy with the tail got on one knee and his tail suddenly changed into that of a Kangaroo as he used it to boost himself across at fast speeds while Touma, who was paired with him, simply ran as fast as he could.
"Oujiro Maishirao; 4.59 seconds. Touma Kamijou; 7.02 seconds."
Next was the girl with pink skin who created a strange white slime that she skated across while Ochako manipulated her own personal gravity in order to move faster than normal.
"Mina Ashido; 4.98 seconds. Ochako Uraraka; 4.28 seconds."
"I can't use [One for All] properly yet, so I gotta rely on my original Quirk." The chubby brunette thought to herself.
Merlow was paired with a girl who looked kind of like a frog and he gave her a thumbs-up before shouting 'LEEROY JENKINS!' as he zoomed forward in a beam of cyan light.
"LASER!"
The girl hopped after him like a frog would, crossing seconds after him as he struck a pose.
"Merlow; 1.23 seconds. Tsuyu Asui; 5.58 seconds."
"There are some tests that our skills aren't suited for..." Misaka thought as she and Sunset were paired together, with Sunset moving at super-speeds, leaving a rainbow trail while Misaka did some grinding with electricity from magnetizing herself to the ground.
The next test was Grip Strength and currently, the boy with tape dispenser elbows and the short boy that Izumi saved in the Entrance Exam were staring in awe at the score gained by a tall, muscular boy with multiple arms and a light blue face mask.
"Man! 540.0kg?! Are you a Gorilla or an Octopus?!"
CRUNCH!
The three boys turned to see Ben had all but destroyed his Grip Device and looked at everyone awkwardly as he dropped it. Touma gripped his own device with his right hand and it suddenly began sparking as it read 999.9kg.
"Now those two have definitely got some manly firepower!" Exclaimed a boy with spikey red hair and shark-like teeth. Katsuki and Himiko couldn't help but feel like they had seen him from somewhere before.
"You guys are pretty impressive too!" Said a girl with AUX cord earlobes and purple hair to Izumi, who summoned Star Platinum to use its immense strength to get a score of 837.1kg. Sunset Shimmer with the Super-Strength power of her Quirk, got 537.1kg, just behind the boy with multiple arms.
The third test was the Standing Long Jump and Ben bounced across with the Spring-Spring Fruit while Izumi took some rocks and used Kraft Work to stop them in place as she used them like stepping stones to get across the sandbox. Accelerator simply removed gravitational vectors and floated across while Kakine used his Dark Matter wings. Katsuki and the boy with the belly button laser did the same thing they did with the 50-Meter Dash and Ochako flew across by disabling gravity around her.
Merlow simply summoned a Rocket Wisp and rode it across while Shirai jumped and teleported to the other end of the sandbox. Shanoa formed several glyphs that she used as solid platforms to run across and Sunset summoned a pair of feathered wings from her back to fly across herself.
"Man, those 12 guys from Maz Kanata. No wonder they're called the 12 Deities." Whispered Denki to the boy with tape dispenser elbows, Sero Hanta.
"I know, right? They're breezing through these tests like nobodies business!"
In the fourth test, Repeated Side-Steps, it was the short boy, Minoru Mineta, who got a chance to shine as he formed two piles of the orbs on his head to bounce back and forth on. Izumi gave him a thumbs-up as he blushed before summoning Echoes, which created a pair of SFX's on the ground that pushed her back and forth at the same speed Minoru had been going at.
Ben used the Paste-Paste Fruit to create two clones of himself, which then used the Paw-Paw Fruit to push him back and forth at speeds so great, that he looked like a blur.
"LASERLASERLASERLASERLASERLASERLASERLASER-"
Merlow was zipping back and forth in bolts of cyan light using his Laser power. A few of the students had their ears plugged up because they couldn't stand the spamming announcement. Even Aizawa had covered his ears with an annoyed expression.
The fifth test was Endurance Run and a few students complained that Momo Yaoyorozu, the girl with the spikey ponytail, had cheated because she used her Quirk to create a mini-scooter to outpace everyone except Ben, Izumi, Shouji, Katsuki, Kakine, Sunset, Lucy, and Merlow.
Aizawa spoke in her defense by saying that she used her Quirk creatively and thus, she was allowed to have a free pass.
"That's a pretty neat Quirk you have. What's the secret behind it?" Ben asked.
Momo blushed before looking away shyly. "I-I use my fat cells to create what I want to create but I need to know the basic chemical structure first."
"If my brother were still here, he'd totally lose it over that Quirk!" Izumi joked before looking forlorn as Katsuki placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Soon, the final test started and it was the Softball Pitch. Ben was exemplified because he already did so as a demonstration so Katsuki went up first with a look of excitement on his face as he threw the ball and exhumed an explosion at the apex of the throw.
"DIE!"
The ball shot far, reaching 705.2 meters, but everyone was rather put off by Katsuki's violent choice of words except for Izumi, Ochako, and Himiko. Next was Momo and she created a miniature cannon that shot her ball off, passing the 1000 meter mark, causing Katsuki to click his tongue in annoyance at having been upstaged.
"Hmm...the band around this is metallic, so if I time it right..." Misaka thought as she threw the ball up and grinned as she flicked it with her thumb, causing it to shoot off in a burst of electricity like a bullet from a railgun, earning her 1124.5 meters. Shirai was up after her and she teleported the ball as soon as she tossed it, reaching the max distance she could teleport something and getting 799.3 meters.
"Pathetic, let me show you how its really done!" Accelerator cackled as he threw his ball into the air and held his hand out, redirecting the vectors in the ball as it brushed against his fingers to send it flying off, earning him 1237.8 meters.
"Man, we have some real monsters in this class! Uh...No offense, you guys." Denki said as Ben shrugged.
"None has been taken."
Izumi wanted to be creative with her Stands, so she summoned Gold Experience and tossed the ball up. The Life-Giving Stand punched the ball as it flew before suddenly turning into a butterfly and floating off-campus before turning back into a ball. Izumi gave a wink as everyone stared at her in amazement.
"Man, she's really powerful!"
"I don't even think that power counts as a Quirk!"
Izumi giggled shyly as Ochako took her own ball and threw it, causing it to float upwards into the air as everyone watched with anticipation. Nothing came up until Aizawa's smartphone beeped and he showed the score.
"HOLY CRAP, SHE GOT INFINITY?!"
"Gravity is quite the versatile Quirk, isn't it?" Ben said as he saw this unfold. Ochako looked awkward as everyone gave her looks of amazement while Himiko walked up next and held out her hand as she called forth a weapon from her Gate of Babylon.
"Is that an electrified bat?" Asked the boy with spikey red hair as Katsuki nodded. Himiko threw her ball into the air and then hit the sweet spot with her electric bat, causing it to shoot off like a lightning bolt, earning her 965.2 meters. Merlow kicked his ball and suddenly infused his Laser power into it, sending it flying into outer space at lightspeed and getting himself Infinity as well. Kakine infused his ball with Dark Matter, altering its energy state so that it was made of a type of solid air that caused it to float up into space as well.
"My Dark Matter is a type of matter that doesn't exist. With it, I can change just about anything with it to abide by my rules." Kakine triumphantly stated his power. Lucy used her Vector Arms to fling her ball across and Shanoa formed a Glyph that caused her ball to float before shooting off like a bullet.
"Everyone is so awesome but it's time for me to show everyone what I got!" Gunha stated as he took a pitching stance with his ball and with a mighty yell, threw it so hard, it created a sonic boom. Everyone was shocked to see that he ended up getting Infinity.
"How was any of that possible?! All he did was throw it!" Kyouka Jiro, the girl with AUX Cord Earlobes, exclaimed in shock while also clutching her sensitive ears from the kickback of the sonic boom.
"Gunha's Quirk is a strange one. He can do a lot of stuff that shouldn't be physically possible but as long as he believes in the very depth of his being that he can do it, he can." Misaka explained.
"Don't say it like that, Misaka-Chan! My Quirk is the power of guts personified!" Gunha retorted proudly as the Electromagnetic manipulator rolled her eyes with a small smile.
Soon, everyone had finished and were anxiously awaiting their fates as Aizawa looked over the scores they accumulated from all six tests.
"Well, I can say that you all did pretty well...and nobody is getting expelled."
"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!" Everyone except the Deities and Momo shouted in disbelief as Aizawa gave a grin that could only be described as trollish.
"It was all a logical ruse to make you give your best performance!"
Shokuhou, who had placed last overall due to her terrible physical stats and her Quirk not being exactly physical, sighed in relief as she hung her head down before being approached by the baggy-eyed teacher.
"Misaki, you're Quirk is an exceptionally powerful one but you could have ended up in General Studies if you didn't have your friends help you accumulate points in the Entrance Exam. That in itself is an example of why the exam is not logical. I'll have to talk to the Principal about it for the future. I hope you do well to expand your craft."
Shokuhou blushed and teared up before running to Ben and hugging him while sobbing as he rolled his eyes and patted her on the back as everyone else smiled.
"Phew! I'm saved!" Minoru cried as he flopped on his back with relief, letting the sun's rays beam down on him.
Accelerator chuckled as he decided to head off before perking up as his eyes drifted to a boy with half-red and half-white hair as well as a burn scar over his left eye. The silver-headed Vector Manipulator arched an eyebrow but paid no heed as he headed off.
And this was only the 1st day of UA High for our young heroes...tomorrow would surely kick things off.
Next Time: Battle Trials!
Also, like I said last chapter, a couple of Class 1-A's students' Quirks will be upgraded in a sense. Case in point, Oujiro Maishirao, who can not only use his normal tail from Canon but also transform it into different animal tails, all with their own strengths.
When we get to the Battle Trials, I'll probably be able to explain the upgraded Quirks in more detail but for now, I'm signing off here. See ya!
