Fairy Tail: Post Game
Chapter eight: War, it's fantastic
One well enough morning over at the Fairy Tail guildhall in Magnolia Town, Natsu was sitting at a fairly large table in the guildhall with Gray, Gajeel, Erza, Happy and Pantherlily. The six of them were joined by fellow guildmates and friends Lucy, Juvia and Levy. Levy was also cradling her and Gajeel's infant son Galev as everyone sat at the table. "Hoo boy! Am I bored as hell," Erza said as she stretched her arms into the air while her fingers were locked with each other, "There better be some new quest requests coming in soon, that's all I'm saying."
Gesturing to Erza, Gray replied, "I agree. We could use a challenging quest to break up the monotony around here."
"I would be satisfied with a quest that paid well enough," Lucy remarked, "My rent's coming due soon, and I'll be near broke after paying it if I don't complete a quest and get the reward for it soon enough."
"I haven't been able to do a lot of quests as of late due to a mix of having to stay here in Magnolia Town because I'm the mayor and having to stay here to take care of Galev," Levy remarked, "But at least my job as mayor pays well enough." Jerking a thumb at Gajeel, Levy continued, "And Gajeel here also earns a lot to help take care of the baby." Everyone else that was sitting at the table turned to look at Gajeel, who was trying to pull his right index finger away from Galev, who had gripped it and did not want to let go.
Shrugging, Natsu said, "We're just going to have to wait for the persons that come in with the quest request postings to pin them up on the request board before we can pick out some new quests." Jerking a thumb over his back to point out the now completely empty quest request board, Natsu said, "We literally had only one quest request posting left on the board, and Zancrow took it and just got back a few minutes ago after successfully completing the quest."
Erza nodded in acknowledgement of what Natsu had said; Zancrow, the Fire God Slayer mage that used to belong to the now defunct dark guild Grimoire Heart, turned out to have survived being hit by that instant death spell that Zeref had hit him with that one time, due to wearing an enchanted accessory hidden on a…rather inappropriate part of his person…and that said accessory absorbed the death magic similar to what Natsu's scarf did that one time to save him from Zeref's auto-kill spells. When he was hit by that spell from Zeref, Zancrow was instead merely knocked out.
Long story short, Zancrow turned out to have been alive this whole time (don't ask about that incident involving the use of the spell Historia of the Dead that one time), he started up the record label in Magnolia Town that employs Alzack now, and Zancrow ended up joining Fairy Tail. The Fire God Slayer mage was sitting at the bar with Jet and Droy, enjoying a large mug of apple juice as he sat with the members of Team Shadow Gear, telling them about the first quest that he completed as a mage of Fairy Tail.
Looking back to her friends that sat with her, Erza remarked, "It's weird how a person who was so dangerous an enemy of ours in the past is now a stalwart ally of ours."
As both Juvia and Gajeel shot Erza a '…really?' kind of look, the front doors of the guildhall opened, making everyone who heard it turn and see who it was that was walking in. To the delight of a lot of the bored Fairy Tail mages, it was a pair of men carrying satchels with insignias on the satchels denoting them as the persons coming to deliver new quest request postings on the board.
The two men went right over to the quest board, opened their satchels, and began taking out quest requests to post on the quest board. Curiously, from what Erza saw, pretty much all of the quest requests looked identical to each other, also there was a lot of them, so much so that the quest board went from completely empty to completely full. Without a word, the two men that had posted the quests requests turned around to face some of the mages.
"Where is the guild master for this guild?" the first man asked.
Getting up to go greet the two men, Erza said, "The master is out at the moment going to a doctor's appointment. However, I am an S-rank mage of this guild, so I can very easily take a message for him." Gesturing to the two men, Erza asked, "Tell me, what's the problem?"
Turning around to gesture to the quest board, the second man remarked, "All of those requests that we just put up kind of have to be accepted, like, right away. They are all copies of the same request from the monster world government, asking for any and all persons that are willing to take the quests to head over to a city that is about to be besieged by the warmonger monster hordes of the Warlord Hirajo.'
"The reason why there are so many copies of the same request is because the monster world government wants to hire as many of you all as possible," the first man clarified.
"Since all of the quest postings are exactly the same, all that you guys need to know is that in order to complete the quests that you all accept, all that you have to do is to go over to the city in question and kill as many of the warmonger monsters that make up the hordes of Hirajo as possible," the second man added, "There are other forces said to be in place to help combat the hordes of Hirajo, but the monster world government fears that it may not be enough." Gesturing to Erza, the second man continued, "That's why so many quest requests have been posted to your guild's quest board just now."
Erza crossed her arms over her armored chest before nodding in understanding. "Yes, I am familiar with the monster world," the armored mage remarked, "I was in fact hired by a woman by the name of Tsurara Shirayuki to act as guard for her daughter Mizore a short while ago, before said daughter recovered enough to attend school at a place called Yokai Academy." Turning to face her fellow guild members, Erza said, "If the monster world government is in such a bind that they've reached out to Fairy Tail in such a fashion, then I say as many Fairy Tail mages as possible ought to accept as many of those quest postings as possible."
Clapping his hands together, Natsu exclaimed as he stood up from the table, "Well alright! We got us some quests to do finally! Not only that, but they sound straight forward and we get to fight a bunch of monsters!" The Fire Dragon slayer mage was among the first of mostly all of the mages of Fairy Tail that went to grab a quest posting from the board. Of the roughly one-hundred or so members of Fairy Tail, less than ten took quests. Even so, with so many Fairy Tail mages rushing out to the city that was about to be attacked by the hordes of Hirajo, all of those monsters be in for quite the rude awakening.
Reaching the city within quick order thanks to picking up a ride from Blue Pegasus via the guild's flying airship Magic Bomber: Christina, the mages of Fairy Tail all arrived in the city, with some Blue Pegasus members taking their guild's airship out of the city's radius. Erza was provided with a communication lacrima that she could use to contact the Blue Pegasus members for pickup when the fighting in the city had come to an end. Looking around, Erza saw some trails of smoke rise up from the cityscape and into the skies above.
Summoning a sword with her requip magic, Erza turned to face all of her guildmates that had come along. "Okay, team," Erza began, "We're about to charge into a city that is besieged by a horde of large, muscular monsters such as trolls, orcs and ogres. You all have been provided with pictures of what said monsters look like, right?" After everyone nodded in the affirmative, Erza went on, "Good. That being the case, none of you should attack the wrong monsters."
"There are other monsters in the city?" Elfman asked as he raised a hand while his sisters Mirajane and Lisanna stood nearby behind him.
Nodding twice in the affirmative, Erza explained, "There are also the monster students who are attending Azu-Daioh High, the local high school, after said monster students had to evacuate from Yokai Academy for reasons that I did not learn about." Counting off of her fingers, Erza said, "From what I heard, there are some vampires, a couple of snow fairies, various demon-type monsters, a few lycan-types such as werewolves, a dragon, mages hailing from the Yuki Onna village, a couple of-"
"Hey, hey, hey, slow down there a minute, Erza," Natsu said. With his hands on his hips, Natsu said as he gave Erza a questioning look, "…What do you mean 'mages hailing from the Yuki Onna village', huh? Why haven't any of them tried joining any of the mage guilds in Fiore? And while we're at it, why are you referring to mages as a race of monsters? Does that make us all monsters as well?"
Letting out a resigned sigh, Erza said, "The monster world government classifies mages as a race of monster. I'm just going off of the info I got from them."
Turning to give Natsu a curious look, Lucy said, "Wow, Natsu. And here I thought that you were going to ask about the dragon."
Returning the look Lucy was giving him, Natsu said, "I'm guessing that the dragon is one of the good monsters fighting the warmongers that we all have to kill."
"And even if the dragon was a bad monster," Zancrow began pointing out, "Keep in mind that we have three Dragon Slayer mages in our group here, Lucy. Not to mention a Demon Slayer mage and yours truly, who is a God Slayer mage, and both of those can help out in the fight as well." Crossing his arms over his chest, the Flame God Slayer mage said to Lucy, "I'm pretty sure that we have no need for alarm in regards to the dragon."
"Indeed," Erza remarked in agreement with Zancrow, "But more on that later." Turning around to face the city that was besieged by the hordes of Hirajo, Erza swung her sword up before swinging it down just enough to point directly at the city. "CHARGE!" the requip mage yelled as she was the first to run towards the city. The rest of Fairy Tail that came to the city to fight the monsters took the cue from Erza and proceeded to charge into the city as well, shouting at the top of their lungs as they ran in for one of their biggest battles yet.
The mages of Fairy Tail spread out throughout the city, with Alzack and Bisca (they left Asuka with Levy, who had to stay behind due to being mayor and having Galev) going into one part of the city after breaking away from some of the others. The gunner duo ended up getting onto the roof of a local pharmacy in the city, joining a pro hero in the process; the pro hero wore a tan gas mask, a brown cowboy hat, a red long cloak, a sleeveless black shirt under a piece of white armor strapped over the right side of his torso, baggy yellow pants with a black area around his groin region, and a pair of gray cowboy boots with spurs on them.
"Who are you?" Alzack asked as he and Bisca pulled out their magic guns and proceeded to help the prop hero shoot at the warmonger monsters below.
The pro hero, surprised to see fellow marksmen like himself not only show up but help him with opening fire on the monsters below, replied, "I'm Snipe, one of Japan's pro heroes and a teacher over at U.A. High School." Turning his head to regard the gunner duo, Snipe asked, "Can I ask who you guys are?"
"We're mages from the mages guild Fairy Tail, over in Magnolia Town, Fiore," Bisca explained as she and the two guys continued to rain bullets down on the attacking warmongers.
After shooting a monster in the head, Snipe said to Alzack and Bisca, "I was not expecting that the heroes would receive help from Special Forces." After Bisca had scored a fatal headshot on a warmonger that yanked a mailbox out of its fastenings in the sidewalk, Snipe continued, "Especially from all the way from Magnolia Town!"
"Well when Bisca, the rest of Fairy Tail and I all saw all of the quest requests for people to come here to fight a bunch of monsters on the quest board in the guild hall, as well as how much each quest posting was offering, there wasn't much giving the guild a reason to say no!" Alzack said as he fired shots from the dual pistols he was wielding, striking monsters below.
With an amused chuckle, Bisca replied, "Alzack here is right. Besides, those quest requests all involved fighting a bunch of monsters. A lot of us in Fairy Tail can't turn down the chance to fight a bunch of enemies."
Over in that same area of the fighting in the city, Erza was controlling a great number of swords that flew around her. The requip mage, with her long crimson hair flowing, thrusted her right hand forward, making the swords she was controlling fly right at the warmongers, impaling all of them; a particularly unlucky warmonger was impaled by three swords, with one in his gut, one in his chest and one through his skull.
Natsu, Gray and Gajeel were fighting in the same area. These three mages threw fire, ice and iron magic at all of the warmongers that they attacked, taking out scores of enemies as the three of them fought side by side against the hordes. At one point, Snipe saw Gajeel turn his (Gajeel's) right arm into a giant iron beam, raise it up into the air, then bring it swinging down on some of the warmongers, busting two shoulders and crushing at least three heads. "…Wow, and here I thought that some of what pro heroes such as myself can do is crazy," the marksmen pro hero remarked, "I think you mages have us heroes beat in the crazy department."
"Oh, this is just related to how we're specifically Fairy Tail mages," Alzack remarked to Snipe, "A lot of the other mage guilds in Fiore are a lot calmer than us." With an amused smirk, Alzack continued, "But if you want crazy, you should see some of the other Special Forces that responded to the request for aid from the government of the monster world."
Snipe turned to face Alzack, a curious look on the pro hero's face, even though you couldn't actually see said look due to Snipe's mask. "…You mean to say that there are other forces here helping the pro heroes quell the monster attack?" Snipe asked, "Who else came?"
"I heard a rumor as Alzack and I came into this area of the city that shinobi from one of the elemental nations is taking part in fighting the hordes of monsters as well," Bisca said, "But don't quote me on that. I have yet to see anything related to-" Bisca was cut off when she, as well as Alzack and Snipe, saw what appeared to be a limousine speed by quickly, clearly on its way to something; judging by the direction it was headed in, Bisca had to guess that it was on its way to that local high school.
"…Well that was weird," Bisca remarked dryly before turning back to face down where the warmongers in that area were fighting everyone. One saw the gunners and tried to get close, but he was peppered by a hail of bullets from the combined efforts of Bisca, Alzack and Snipe: the monster ended up falling to his knees before falling over face first onto the ground, where he just laid there still and unmoving.
A good number of the warmonger monsters were standing around a group of Fairy Tail mages consisting of Lisanna, Laki Olietta, Cana and Zancrow. "Ah hell, we're completely surrounded!" Laki remarked in a tone that was an even mix of annoyed and worried. Things were starting to look a bit bad for the Fairy Tail mages, due to the sheer number of enemies they were facing.
Assuming a battle stance as she held a handful of her tarot cards, Cana said, "Don't worry, girls, you all have the awesomeness that is Cana Alberona at your side!" With an amused smirk on her face, the heavy drinker continued, "So long as I am with the three of you girls, there is no threat, human or otherwise, that can ever-"
Cana was interrupted midsentence when Zancrow, who was wielding a Fire God's Scythe that he had conjured, kill four warmongers in one swipe before kill another three of them by using Fire God's Bellow. The remaining warmongers took a few cautious, mildly fearful steps back from the Fire God Slayer mage. Since there was a very brief moment of rest during the fight, Zancrow took the time to turn to look at his fellow Fairy Tail members.
Giving Cana a dry look, Zancrow said, "…I'm a dude." Cana winced slightly in embarrassment as, due to the excitement of the fighting she and her fellows were in, she lost track of who all was exactly who, as well as their genders; she just assumed that everyone that with her was a girl, same as her.
Natsu and the others were surprised by a great many things as they fought against the hordes of Hirajo; they saw three pro heroes identified by Snipe as Mt. Lady, Mirko and Ryukyu rush past them in the direction of an area that had places such as a high end bank, a fancy restaurant, an assisted living home for the elderly, and a places that helps families with autistic children. Why the mages were surprised was because Mt. Lady and Ryukyu were both transformed, with the transformation Ryukyu had being particularly surprising to both Natsu and Gajeel.
Over where Lucy and Juvia, with Loke as backup, were being surrounded by some of the monsters, they were saved by the timely arrival of Cana, Lisanna, Laki and Zancrow. Despite how Cana was trying to put on a show as the big hero who had swooped in to save the day, it was mostly Zancrow who did the heavy lifting to save Lucy, Juvia and Loke, although Lisanna did help thanks to her transformation magic.
Lucy and the others were also thrown for a loop when a limousine sped by and drove up the extended ramp of a ramp-style tow truck with such speed and force that it flew up and off into the air, soaring over a few warmongers as a lady cheered "YEEEEEHAAAWWWW!" from within the limo. The limo ended up landing on a few of the monster, breaking the shoulder of one while crushing the head of another.
After the limo landed, three seniors consisting of a pink-haired man, a man with long blonde hair in a high man's ponytail, and a woman with shoulder length shaggy brown hair got out of the limo, along with a large dog that was wearing an eyepatch and missing an ear. That party proceeded to kill a few warmongers before they were met up by a large muscular man with a beard of fire, a man with large red wings, and a man wearing a full-head mask made of wood. Seeing all of this rightfully confused Lucy and the others from Fairy Tail.
Eventually, the fighting in the city wound down, and the good guys fighting against the hordes of Hirajo were victorious. Granted, there were a few casualties the good guys suffered, but no one from Fairy Tail was killed. The worst that was suffered by any Fairy Tail mage was a very slight concussion suffered by Evergreen, but she would recover soon enough. Since they had driven the monsters into defeat successfully, the mages were able to complete the quests that they had all taken from the monster world government.
Since the job actually paid them in Japanese yen rather than Fiore jewel, the Fairy Tail mages had to go to an exchange bank to get the quest payments they all received converted to the currency of their native homeland. To the surprise of many (Lucy especially), each of the kill quests paid roughly the same as the average s-rank quest found on the Fairy Tail quest board. So not only did the mages of Fairy Tail get to cause untold chaos in their efforts to help save the day, but they were all paid handsomely for it, too.
It did not take everyone all that much to get back to Fiore and over to Magnolia Town, where they all relaxed in the guild hall as they celebrated having won one of the biggest battles that they have participated in yet (I say biggest due to the sheer number of enemies that they all had to face). "Sorry I couldn't go with you girls," Levy said in an apologetic tone as she sat with Lucy, Lisanna and Juvia at one of the tables, "But I had to stay here to run Magnolia Town." Gently rocking Galev in her arms, the Solid Script mage continued, "And there wasn't exactly a lot of reliable persons around to watch Galev for me."
Nodding in understanding, Lucy said, "It's alright, Levy. We can't blame you since you're dealing with being a parent." Gesturing to her closet friend, Lucy continued, "Parenthood is said by many to be one of the biggest battles a person can face, you know."
Looking around the main area of the guildhall, Lucy observed all of her guildmates as they celebrated the rousing success of their combined efforts; she saw Macao and Wakaba playing some pool together, she saw Zancrow, holding a large barrel-style mug that was confirmed to be filled with orange juice, trying to explain to Jet and Droy why he (Zancrow) doesn't drink alcohol anymore, and she even saw Bisca sit with Alzack and Asuka as they enjoyed a family meal together.
And that said nothing of what Lucy saw Natsu doing with Gray, Gajeel, Erza, Happy and Pantherlily. The combined six of them were at the lone foosball table in the guildhall, located next to the pool table that Macao and Wakaba were both playing at, surprisingly enough. The boys and Pantherlily watched as Erza played against Happy; judging by the look on Erza's face at the time, she was probably losing to the blue-furred exceed. This theory was further backed up by the snickering coming from the boys and Pantherlily.
Gently shaking her head, Lucy turned back around to face Levy, Juvia and Lisanna. "…Yeah, we've just gotten back from one of the craziest things we've done as a guild to date," said the celestial spirit mage. With a mildly amused-looking smirk on her face, Lucy went on, "But then again, one would have to get up really nice and early in the morning in order to beat Fairy Tail to all of the crazy juice."
END, CHAPTER EIGHT
Author's notes:
And that takes care of things from the Fairy Tail point of view during the event in 'Rosario Vampire Re-Vamped' where Hirajo and his hordes attack the city. And that last line of Lucy's at the end says a lot about the guild, if you ask me. Hell, I think that Lucy making such a statement in the series proper would be met with agreement from many of her fellow guildmates. But more on that later.
Anyway, due to lack of one-off ideas for chapters for this story right now, I'm going to go ahead with a plot that I have in mind that will stretch multiple chapters of both this story and another one of my stories. I can't say what the story in question is just yet, but when the time comes, you will know. The crossover will also play a major role in times to come, especially with my big end goal that I have waiting in the wings.
