1) Mei loves her village. She isn't always proud of it and the history it has, but she still loves it. That it why she worked so hard to become Mizukage. She wanted to show the world that Kiri was more than 'the Bloody Mist'. She's aware that her village probably won't lose that title in her lifetime, but she can at start the change.
2) Mei was the first female kage in history. Tsunade soon became the second a few years later.
3) Mei became a genin at age 9. She fought and killed her fellow academy classmates until she was the last one standing. That's the first time Mei can remember wanting to change her village.
4) Mei has two kekkei genkai. In the years after the fourth shinobi war it's a lot more common compared to when she was a child and having even one was considered rare.
5) Mei discovered her lava release first at age elven, with the learning the boil release a few years later. She kept it to herself until she was about fifteen. Kiri had a recent history of hunting down those with a kekkei genkai and killing them. Mei wouldn't let them get the chance, so she kept it to herself until she felt strong enough to defend herself.
6) Mei became a chunin at age eleven and a jonin at age fifteen. She considered joining Kiri's anbu but concluded that her skills lied more in direct combat than in stealth and assassinations.
7) Mei is close to both Ao and Chojuro. She respected their opinion and talents and knew she could trust them with her life. They were a lot of fun to tease, though. Ao could be such a prude and Chojuro was so shy. Their reactions were always so amusing.
8) Mei was devestaded when she learned of Ao's death. He was amongst her closest friends and losing him was a huge blow not to just to her but also to their village.
9) Mei once competed with Kurotsuchi to see who was stronger with the lava release. Everyone that was there said it was a tie, but Mei knows she was the one who one, even if Kurotsuchi likes to say that she was the one who won.
10) Mei has been able to master all chakra natures but wind. She can do a few jutsus of that nature but they're not very impressive. It's frustrating, but Mei understands you can't be talented at everything.
11) Mei likes to flirt. Especially with men who she finds attractive. She once flirted with Kakashi Hatake after he became Hokage and was delighted to see a blush rise above his mask. She dislikes having to kill attractive men but if their idiotic enough to attack her then they have it coming.
12) Mei dealt with over thirty assassination attempts in her first six months as Mizukage. While many of Kiri's shinobi wanted change, they were just as many who didn't. Coincidentally, in her first six months as Mizukage quite a bit of those Kiri shinobi who disappeared.
13) Despite Mei's wish for a husband she never did marry. Mei knew herself well enough to know that she was a lot to handle she never seemed able to find a guy that could handle her, and she wasn't the type to settle.
14) Mei likes having long hair. It suits her and she enjoys when enemies think they can use it for an advantage in battle when facing her.
15) Thanks to her two kekkei genkai Mei has gotten quite use to the smell of burning flesh. Well, she's not sure if you can get used to it but at the very least it no longer makes her want to vomit.
16) Mei is a realist and has gotten use to being the voice of reason amongst her fellow kage. Tsunade and A both have tempers, Onoki, while having grown, has spent most of his life expecting other villages to actively try to sabotage each other and it's a hard belief to shake, and Gaara is very quiet and Mei is sure he is sometimes judging the rest of the Kage as bunch of stubborn fools. She had hoped Kakashi would help, but whereas Tsunade had a temper Kakashi was too laid back and seemed to dislike taking things seriously.
17) Mei's favorite color is blue. It reminds her of the blue waters surrounding Kiri's island.
18) Mei retired as Mizukage about eight years after the war. Despite being Mizukage for only about ten years and still being young enough to go for quite a while longer she recognized the shinobi world was changing. And while she had wanted to change Kiri Mei knows she grew up with too much death to lead Kiri into a peaceful era with the other villages. Alliances she knew, but peace was more than that. Which is why she choose Chojuro as the next Mizukage. He had the right mindset to lead Kiri to prosperity.
19) Even after the war and later retiring as Mizukage she remains good friends with her fellow previous Kage.
20) Despite being good at keeping her temper in check but she loses control when someone mentions her love life.
I know in Boruto Ao is alive and working with Kara but I personally feel like Boruto ruined a lot of characters. Also I'm not sure if Mei actually became a kage before Tsunade but everyone else seems to think so and I feel like it fits so that's what I decided to go with.
