The next evening the compound was buzzing with activity again but for happy reasons.

"It has been fun having you here, Northman." Peter addressed Eric before the family was to leave.

"I agree and next tom it will be under better circumstances".

"What better circumstances could there be? We stormed the compound and rescued the beautiful queen". Peter smiled at Sookie.

"The beautiful queen not being extremely pregnant". Sookie answered as she handed a staff member a piece of luggage.

"Quite true" Peter nodded.

"Are you ready, my love"? Eric asked Sookie.

"Yes, let's go home". She answered with a hand on his arm.

"Goodbye, old friend and new". Peter said standing on the top step.

"Goodbye, old friend".

Sookie gave Peter a smile and a wave before they entered the cars to drive to the airport.

"We will be departing shortly, Mr. Northman". The piolet announced.

"Thank you" Eric acknowledged as he drank his glass of blood.

"I am going to take a nap" Sookie announced trying to stand up.

Lex jumped up to give his mother a hand getting out of her chair.

"Thank you, Lex". Sookie took his hand as she stood up carefully and then let go when she was upright.

After Sookie closed the door, Eric turned to his children. "Pamela, have you made the security changes to the home"?

"Yes, I had them arranged before we left. They should be completed".

"Good, I don't want Sookie to stress so close to the end".

"I Agree".

"Will we always have to be alert"? Lex asked looking of the window.

"Unfortunately, your mother is something very rare and precious". Eric answered with a sigh.

"Eric Northman can't fall for a normal human. Oh, no. That would be too easy. He needs a challenge. Like a fae-human hybrid that can birth vampires". Pam rolled her eyes.

"What normal human would you have me fall for, Pamela? Ginger"?

"Oh, hell, no"! Pam answered outraged.

"What is wrong with Ginger? She is loyal, diligent…"

"A complete and utter moron"!

"Who's Ginger"? Lex asked completely confused.

Eric and Pam burst in laughter.

We are experiencing some turbulence, Mr. Northman. We are going to take all precautions".

"This is just great! What else could go wrong"? Pam complained.

The door to the rear cabin slides open with a bang.

"Eric, my water broke".

"It wasn't a challenge, Sookie"! Pam exclaimed.

"Are you sure"? Eric stumbled towards her.

"This isn't my first rodeo, ERIC". Sookie finished with a shout as she gripped the doorway.

Pam walks to the cockpit. "We need to land, NOW"!

"There isn't anywhere for us to land right now".

"Sookie is in labor"!

"I hope one of you is a midwife". The piolet finished the conversation.

Completely useless". Pam stomped back to her seat. "We are screwed".

"Thanks, Pam. I feel so much better"! Sookie complained.

"Go lay down, my love". Eric turned Sookie towards the bed and then looks back to Pam. "Call Ludwig".

"Dr. Ludwig, we are in need of assistance". Pam spoke into the phone sweetly.

"What do you need, vampire".

"Sookie is in labor while we are on a plane that can't land".

"Be there in a moment". POP.

Little girl, you are my most exhausting patient".

"I'm sorry". Sookie said through gritted teeth.

"Let's see where we are".

Dr. Ludwig dawns gloves before lifting the cover over Sookie. "We are almost there". She declared while removing the gloves from her hands.

Sookie threw her head back on the pillow. "Eric Northman, remind me to never let you touch me never again".

"I'm not going to do that". Eric replied with a smile.

Eric's smile quickly faded. "Sookie, I smell blood".

"That comes with the territory".

"No, Sookie, I smell a lot of blood".

"Don't worry so much. Everything is…"

"Sookie"?! Eric cried before lifting up the covers to see all of the blood.

"Ludwig"!

"What are you yelling for? There is still time".

"Look"!

"We need to land this plane now".

Eric sped to the cockpit. "This plane needs to land NOW"!

"Mr. Northman, it will be a few more minutes". The piolet replied with a shaky voice.

"Do it as quickly as possible. My wife's life is in jeopardy"!

"Is mom going to die"? Lex asked with a quiver.

"No, of course not" Eric cradled the back of Lex's head. "She is a fighter".

Ludwig is doing everything she can while popping back and forth with supplies. Pam is sitting on the bed beside Sookie holding her hand. "I didn't mean for you to up the anti. You being in labor in the sky was bad enough. Now, you have me in here holding your hand while Eric is trying to hold it together for Lex, your son who needs you".

"We're descending" Ludwig announced.

"It's about time".

"Northman"! Ludwig bellowed.

Eric appeared almost instantly. "Gently pick up the girl. All that I have done has barely put a band aid on things".

Pam stood up from the bed to allow Eric to pick Sookie up from the bed.

"There should be a medical team waiting for you when we land".

Eric nodded his understanding.

The airport crew moved the stair over to the plane as quickly as they could. Eric sped toward the gurney and laid Sookie on it.

"Move, move!" is shouted by the head of the medical crew. They load her into a helicopter and then take off with Eric on their heels.

The doors to the hospital are opened by gurney speeding through them.

"This way, we have an OR waiting on her". A nurse informed them.

The doors to the OR slam open. "Sir, you can't go in there".

"That's my wife and daughter"!

"I know there isn't anything you can do in there".

Eric let the man go. He understood his limitations.

"Hook her up to monitors" A nurse shouted.

"The baby needs to come out". Ludwig announced.

Eric listens to all that is being said but the most important sounds are of the fading heartbeat.

"She's going to be fine, Eric". Pam tried to comfort.

Eric lifted his head to show the blood stains on his cheeks. "I want to believe that. I want to believe that my wife, my queen, my existence is not slipping away".

"I hear the baby crying" Lex announced.

"Clear".

"Again".

"Clear".

Eric cried in agony as he listened.

"We have a pulse"!

"Let's move people"!

He heard the sound of wheels coming toward the door. A nurse pushing a tiny baby wrapped in a blanket inside of a plastic bassinet. "Mr. Northman, would you like to meet your daughter"?

"Yes, of course". Eric took the tiny baby out of the bed. He looked into his daughter's eyes and was spell bound. He remembered when Lex was born and told her the same words. "I'm your dad".
