His hands were sweating as he held onto the bus pole. He had spent so long fixing his stare on the old lady to his front, that he could've sworn that by now he had already memorized her blouse pattern. His mind was fully focused in that task, trying to resist the overwhelming impulse to look away and finally gaze at the face of the girl he had by his side. Her face felt like a magnet; constantly dragging both, his eyes and thoughts towards her. It begged to be looked at, but as much as he wanted to, he had forbidden himself to do so. He knew if he did, the red on his cheeks would get so bright it would even compete with the traffic lights out in the street, and as if following the sign his brain would just cease p to work, and he would become completely and blissfully numb.
As he struggled, she kept on talking, without even noticing the mingle she was provoking inside his chest. He just nodded, tossing monosyllables everytime she asked him a question, and just focusing on trying to keep his cool. He had tried to face her once, at the beginning of the bus ride, with her being so close that he had been able to notice that she was wearing mascara and flower earrings, and that her bangs were slowly starting to curl up on her head. God, he wanted to see more. He was dying to find out if she was hiding any freckles, or if her eyelids had some soft shade of makeup. He wanted to catch every single detail of her closeness and daydream over it once daylight had faded. But that was an unforgivable thing to do, because he knew his guts would betray him, and he would once again find himself playing a fool in front of her, paralyzed, nervous and unable to speak. And that was exactly what he could not allow.
"Hey, King…" she muttered, little after shutting silent and ceasing on her constant attempt to start some casual dialogue "You and Ban…" she hesitated, glancing at the other side of the window, with unmistakable melancholy hidden behind her deep lilac eyes "You guys don't really like me, right?"
And then he lifted his eyes, daring to look at her as his heart violently and deathly skipped a beat.
Spring sprinted the city in pink blossomed trees and sleepy teenagers wearing their uniforms on their way to school. The streets were vibrating once again; girls gossipped as the fabric on their skirts caressed their thighs, and teachers gathered on convenience stores to buy their daily coffees before heading to class. Busses made their way through the streets, filled with students checking their phones or chattering, in a permanent maraud that kept the avenues full of life.
And in the middle of that routinary carnival a sharp, metallic sound left no echo on the small alleyway where a boy lighted a cigarette. He was a tall subject, with hair the same color as ash and two feline eyes lost in thought as they stared up to where the sky should be, but could only meet the endless buildings. One might've taken a little while before repairing on the fact that, under the dusty leather jacket he wore, there was a school uniform. He didn't really seem to bother with buttoning up his shirt, or wearing the necktie he should wear. Minutes were passing by between one smoke and the other, but nor Ban nor his company seemed to stress over the thought of being late for class.
"Well, well, well… looks like King overslept again" mocked the blond guy by his side, smiling cockily as if amused by that thought. His hands seemed to be busy with the bounce of the tiny, plastic ball he was carrying with him; dropping it to the ground, then catching it again to repeat the gesture, just like a little kid ". He was the one that insisted on meeting here though… I bet he lost his head over it already!"
He was a curious kid. Being about a head shorter than Ban and wearing the uniform in a proper manner, except for the fact that he refused to adjust his tie as much as he should have. His hair wasn't exactly long, but one could easily tell that he hadn't gone to the hairdresser during summer; his blond hair sprinted over his ears and neck, even covering part of his forehead. He smiled as one thought an elf would, with unmistakable mischief being guessed behind his dimples. Later on one would discover that it was hard to spot him without it; smiling was his personal signature.
"That kid should learn how to fix an alarm for once…" commented Ban, without appearing to be too concerned over the matter. He took his time to drag another mouthful of smoke from his cigarette before releasing it with a half smile. His eyes took a while to leave the spot of their attention up above the buildings before wandering all the way to his friend and speaking again with the same careless tone "After all, he's the one giving out speeches about punctuality. Am I wrong, Captain?"
His name was actually Meliodas, though it had been a long while since that tacky trio had stopped calling him that. Captain suited him much better. Not only had he achieved that title after becoming captain of their middle school football team, but it actually seemed to fit his role on their group dynamic even after they started high school. King was too lazy to take any leadership position, while Ban didn't care enough to do so. Meliodas, on the other hand, was always full of initiative. His head was constantly bubbling with enthusiasm and ideas, and once he came out with something, he wouldn't take a no for an answer. It was stimulating for King's slothful temper, and exciting for Ban's reckless instinct.
"Yeah" he replied, finally putting the plastic ball inside his pocket as he took his hands behind his head ". But he'll still go nuts as soon as he sees you with that cigarette in your mouth."
Said and done: A redhead appeared behind them all of a sudden, with almost translucent freckles sprinkled in random spots over his pale cheeks. His short and skinny body gasping constantly as his eyes reflected the restiveness of someone who is in a hurry. This anxious attitude was, probably, the best way to introduce someone such as King; the infamous third member of this trio.
"Ah, thanks God you guys are still here" he exclaimed, his lips curling up on a relieved smile that could not stand still to the constant pants leaving his mouth ". I don't know what's wrong with my phone. I settled like three alarms yesterday evening before falling asleep, but for some reason they just don't ring. I woke up about twenty minutes ago and just rushed it over here and.." something seemed to stop King's chain of excuses as he stared shockingly at the white smoking cylinder on his friends mouth. First his eyes widened so much that his eyeballs could've easily fallen, then his frown furrowed as a weird expression took place in his mouth "Ban! What on earth are you doing smoking this early! It's not even eight am and we have to enter class like… now! God, you'll stink!"
But Ban didn't seem too mind it so much. His eyes rolled as he dragged one more smoke and smashed the cigarette against the wall, grabbing then his bag and placing it behind his shoulder. "Would you mind not screaming?" he asked, tossing the cigarette end to the ground "Let me remind you that both, me and the captain, were on time to this meeting of yours, while you were fifteen minutes late. You could at least allow me to smoke in peace to make up for it."
"And I hate to contradict you" added an amused Meliodas as he raised his phone screen so that both of his companions could see it ", but eight am started seven minutes ago, so we're officially late for school."
The disbelief on the kid's face was so intense, that no one could ever blame his friends for laughing at it. God, if teenagers were like dogs that smelt fear, all of the students at the bus stop would've come running to the place where King had yelled: "What!?" he checked the time on his own phone, his eyeballs almost falling off his eyes as he did "Then what are we doing here?! Hurry up! Move your asses! We gotta to get to class now!" He didn't take any grudges on placing his hands on Ban's back to push him out the alleyway, forcing both of his friends to literally run through the streets towards school. The place was left quiet for maybe half a minute, and if you thought it would stay like this, you were wrong. Someone like King would've had to come back, and pick up the cigarette end resting lonely on the pavement; the only thought of leaving that thing there was enough to freak him out.
The three kids would find the school's hallways empty and quiet. Good news were this year they got to be on the same class. Bad news were they had been left outside the classroom. Now the three of them were sitting on the floor, leaning their backs against the wall, as they waited for the teacher to finally let them in. Meliodas had started playing with his plastic blue ball once again, while King nervously hugged his knees, fixing his wide open eyes on the floor.
"It's not that much of a deal, King" said Ban as he leaned back his head, glaring at the roof ". Everyone's been late for class at least once."
"Yeah, especially you" added Meliodas referring to King, then to look at Ban with mischievous gleam in his eyes ". Though I think this time his concern is not about punctuality…"
King blushed. No, saying that he blushed would not be enough. His cheeks lit up like a christmas tree at the only mention of his concern.
"Oh… right. That girl was in our class, no? What was her name again? Tiare?" asked Ban cockily smiling at King.
"Diane!" shouted King, provoking the red in his cheeks to grow even brighter after he realised he said that a bit louder than he intended to "Her name is Diane…" he whispered, lowering his gaze back to the floor.
And he was right. Truth was King had been freaking out since he found out a certain 'Diane' girl would be amongst his classmates. Now his nerves were about to collapse in a strange mixture of bliss and terror. Destiny had finally given him a small chance of getting to spend time with the girl he had liked since his first year of middle school, and his heart couldn't help but flutter at the only thought of that. The problem was… what was such an oblivious and dorky character such as him going to do about it? He had been in her class back in middle school as well, and though he tried multiple times, King had never gotten himself to even talk to her. Neither had he the next two years, when he could see her on recesses chattering with her friends and playing with those pretty little twintails of hers. Not even because he got to be in the same high school as her did he dare to do that. What difference would it make to be in class with her now?
Even worse, it was no secret that Diane liked somebody else. No, not only was this guy a somebody else; it was his Captain. He was charismatic, funny and reliable, and a thousand other things he could never even dream of becoming. She had been in the same class as his blond friend last year, and her feelings about him were nothing but obvious; he knew the Captain wouldn't talk to him about it, but King just knew - as so did the rest of the school - that she was head over heels for him. If there was any relief for him, that was that the Captain didn't show the slightest interest on her, which once again, made his own existence feel like a joke.
But still Meliodas smiled warmly, placing his hand on top of King's head as he messed his hair as a dad would. "Hey, calm those wings, King Fairy" he said, as King lifted his eyes up to his, not too amused at the mention of his not-so-welcomed nickname ". Just check the bright side of this: you'll get plenty of time to stutter all over her face."
Ban repressed a laugh, smiling widely as he stared at the redhead from behind his friend. "What's worth waiting for? We could start practicing right away!" he added, mockingly taking his hands to the Captain's head and grabbing his hear as in two really badly done twintails "Hi King! I'm Diane! I'm so glad we are in the same class!" he scoffed, talking in a high pitched voice that did not seem to do the trick when amusing King.
"S-shut up Ban! Stop it!" he yelled, trying to get Ban's hands out of his friend's hair. This was his group of friends official way of support; mocking each other to death. He knew they meant well, Jesus, the fact that they would never act this way with anyone outside the three of them was enough proof. It still got him out of his nerves, as one could clearly notice if only saw the distressed expression on his face.
It didn't take long for Melioda's messy blond hair to become a battlefield. Fingers pushing, and wrapping, and pulling all over over his head. "Okay, guys stop it!" he amusedly complained as he pushed both of his friends away from his head, quickly shaking his head to regain his usual hairstyle "I'm pretty sure this is not how girls do twintails!"
"What are you saying, Captain?" insisted Ban as he laughed ". You looked just like King's type."
"Ban, cut it off!" fought King as he softly hit Ban on his head with his fist "It's not funny!"
"Are you saying I look ugly, King-kun?" mocked then the blonde one, driving his own hands to his head to resemble the twintails as he spoke with an equally annoying high pitched voice that once again, did not gain King's amusement.
"Captain! Not you! Ban's already-!" but the sound of a clearing throat seemed to cut off King's complaints.
The trio looked up to his backs, only to discover an upset looking man, with lips frowned under his ginger mustache, the three of them shutting silent at the sight of their teacher glaring at them without sharing their amusement.
His icy blue eyes , fixed on them with disapproval, as a couple of orange colored brows furrowed above his nose. "You three," he severely said "stop loafing around and get up, it's time for class."
It didn't take too long for King to realize why his alarm hadn't woken him.
You know? One wouldn't really use the adjective "lucky" when describing King. In fact, Ban had several times replaced it for "disaster". He was just like a tiny little magnet that dragged onto himself all kind of unfortunate situations. Just to mention some examples: whenever he opened a can of soda, it would always splash onto his face, he would also randomly trip constantly on perfectly plain paths, not to mention he always had to be the last one to talk when everyone had shut their mouths. It was rather muggy, but It made so much more exciting to spend time with him. As Meliodas had once said: "Being around King is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you're gonna get."
That morning what he got was the unpredictable, and loud, ringing of his alarm. It had happened right in the worst moment, when he had just entered the classroom and bowed his head as a sign of apology for his late arrive. Oh, and did I mention he had 'Walking on Sunshine' as his ringtone? He had just read last night that it was the perfect song to wake up to. Whether it was or not, he no longer wanted to find out.
Did his cheeks ever get tired of blushing? At least that morning it wouldn't seem like it. They were once again all sprinkled in pink as the song ringed across the silent classroom with Ban, Meliodas and all the others kids in the class just stared confusedly at him. King quickly picked his phone from inside his pocket and hurried to shout, "I'm so sorry!" then glanced towards the professor, who didn't show any amusement at all "It's my alarm…"
As he finally shut it off, he heard a soft chuckle. He lifted his stare all the way to the spot where the noise had come, only to realize soon that he shouldn't have.
Diane was looking way too pretty. God, she was prettier than he could remember. She was sitting next to the window, with her usual twintails tied by the sides of her hair. Her smile still held her cheekbones so high that they forced her to half-close her eyes, but there was something in her that made her look like she had grown up. King couldn't really get a hold of it. Maybe it was the fact that she had changed her pair of pink ribbons for tiny red laces, or the way she kept that sassy expression on her brows. Whatever it was, she made it work. Crap, she made it work too well, it was deadly charming.
"Mister Goldenvalley" growled the professor, waking him up from his daydream and tossing his butt all the way down to reality ". When are you planning on taking seat?"
King's face grew pale. Now he was alone in front of the classroom, hoping he hadn't made too obvious the intensity with which he had stared at Diane. Ban was already sitting on his chair, signaling with his eyes how there was still a free table next to Diane. However, Meliodas yet hadn't sat, which would only mean one thing: now, he had to choose where to sit.
His eyes quickly scanned his options, which didn't take too long since he only had two. The first one was next to Diane, who was now hiding her lips behind her hair. The other one, next to Ban, who was clearly gesturing not to take that one. Meliodas, on the other hand, was in the middle way, glancing at him, waiting for his choice.
"Come on, it's just a sit!" insisted the teacher, who was already losing his nerves to this little trio "It's not like you're marrying the person next to you or something!"
But for King that was a life or death decision. Oh boy, how he wanted to sit next to Diane, just so that maybe he would ever actually talk to her. But would he be able to? Wouldn't he freeze every time she said a word or looked towards him? He wouldn't even have his friends near him to spare a hand, all that he would have would be their mocky smiles from across the room and… oh, no. He wasn't ready to deal with that.
But then, he knew sitting besides Ban would be painful. Not because of Ban himself, though that was a headache as well, but because of the fact that he would have to look at Diane cheerishing Meliodas's presence all class long. Yet again, King was better at dealing with pain than at dealing with fear.
Taking that step towards Ban made him feel like he just lost. He didn't really knew what he lost, he just knew he had. There wasn't a tiniest nice detail about that seat to make him feel a little better; the table would tremble at the slightest movement, and the light above his head would tilt every now and then. Besides, he still had a perfect view of Diane's seat, where she cheerly smiled to Meliodas, showing him her kitty shaped erasers and pink post-its. It didn't make it better at all, he thought, even though he knew she wouldn't have been as eager to talk to him.
"King…" said Ban, slightly turning his head towards him as he raised an eyebrow, in this occasion without any mischievous smiles to alert him "I think you should pay attention to class"
King's only response was a "Hum", as he looked away from Diane to focus on the chalkboard. He knew what Ban meant, and it wasn't exactly a study advice. What he actually was trying to say, with his own Ban words were "chill out, its gonna be okay."
Unlike King, Ban had no reason to care about anything inside of school. Lessons were boring, girls were bland, and life was depressingly monotonous. During his first year in that school, he had enjoyed himself trying to hack the system and finding places he could smoke. Now that he had found them all, not even smoking was fun anymore.
He would still do it, of course, up in that rooftop he had found access to through a specific window. Not too many people could fit in there, maybe two, but he seriously doubted that space would take the three of them in. That's why it had become Ban's secret base, where he would come alone, have a smoke and then leave.
It was perfect for a day such as that, with Diane tagging alone to everything Meliodas did, talking nonstop about topics Ban just couldn't care less about. If he was honest, he didn't really like her, and he wished King didn't either. King just needed someone… soft. He was a human puppy, and King couldn't really see Diane nurturing that sweet side of his. Actually, she was more like a bee, rumbling around and stinging. Ban didn't really like bees, though ironically, King did.
But Diane wasn't the only reason why that day he had decided to have a moment of his own. He actually felt like he needed a good talk, but he wasn't good at talking, specially about matters such as the ones he had in mind.
He dug into his jacket to drag a small, rectangle-shaped device. It was old technology, but pretty easy to recognize. It was an mp4. He had had it with him for a few weeks now, but he hadn't heard from it a single song. Not even had he checked what it had. It bothered him how hard it was to simply turn it on, not because it required much pressure or anything, but because he was afraid of its content. Ban couldn't help but fear the person that was hidden in all those old songs.
"Ban!" a voice shrieked, catching him off guard and provoking chills to run down his spine "How many times have I told you not to get on there little brat!"
He buried the device inside his pocket once again, as he crawled all the way to the window not too surprised over the person he found there. "Hi Jericho" he tossed, dragging a not so subtle smoke from his cigarette ", I missed you as well."
"Eugh, don't do that near me!" she continued to yell ", some of us don't want to stink!"
"Well," he replied, releasing the smoke right onto her face before turning away "then don't come near me."
Jericho growled, and blushed, but Ban didn't really turn around to see that. He was too busy staring up to the sky, assuming she would leave; usually it didn't take too long before she did so. However, that day she seemed more stubborn than usual. "Its dangerous up there, Ban!" she rant, pushing her torso a bit further outside the window "And smoking is against the school's normative, you know that!"
And yet, Ban didn't turn around to look at her "So is not wearing a necktie, or this jacket, but, do I look like I care, student council-wannabe?"
Jericho was on her senior year, and she was an angry looking woman. Ban knew she was probably seventeen, but the boy could've sworn that in the depths of her soul, she was a sixty year old widowed lady with nine cats. She had also been applying for the student council ever since her first year of high school, but had never really gotten to be a part of it. Ban was actually surprised; her annoying personality was perfect for such a cringe worthy group of people, and he was sure all of them would have fun debating the rules while they petted three different cats, all named Mittens.
"I won't be a wannabe this year, Ban!" she proclaimed, yelling so hard that now Ban had to turn towards her "I'm actually applying as president, and I'm guessing you'll vote for my list, right?"
Ban rose a brow, looking at Jericho with a mixture of amusement and curiosity. "Are you for real?" he questioned, as if Jericho had just said a bad joke "You are the only person in this whole damn school that comes and pisses me in my tiny peaceful place, do you really think I want you to actually be on your right to do that?"
"I am on my right to do that Ban!" Jericho's torso was almost completely out of the window at this point "As a responsible member of the establishment, I am more than allowed to notify my schoolmates when they're breaking a rule."
Jericho's stare was full of rage. Ban's was full of 'meh'. As I had mentioned before, Ban usually didn't care enough about stuff, and even if he did, he didn't bother displaying it.
"And as a responsible member of my life" he added, lighting off his cigarette against the metallic roof ", I am more than allowed to tell you to fuck off when you're being annoying." he tossed the cigarette end, heading towards the window, with a frowned and blushed Jericho intensely glaring at him ".Which, by the way, you are" he tilted his head, expectantly ". Now if you'll excuse me, the bell is about to ring and I don't want to be late for class."
The last thing he would hear from Jericho for that day would be the growl she tossed as she left her place in the window, disappearing into the hallway. Ban would never know, but inside her mind, she would be cursing his whole existence as she made her way back to class.
Jericho wasn't the only person cursing Ban during that recess. Actually, multiple people cursed Ban really often. Meliodas didn't, because Meliodas thought Ban was so much fun that even being mad at him was amusing. King, on the other hand, didn't share that idea.
As the recess went by, he couldn't help but wonder why had Ban left him alone with Diane and Meliodas. Now he had to stick by them, but holy wars was it awkward. He had learnt a lot of things about her in the past ten minutes, like the fact that she like vanilla flavored milk, Meliodas, cherry blossom season and Meliodas.
One couldn't really say that the Captain was comfortable with that situation. Ok, he just wasn't, but he really knew how to pretend he did. He had figured out the perfect manner to smoothly avoid physical contact and convert any and all compliments into group friendly conversation topics. King was so impressed, that he decided that if he was ever going to be rejected by someone - presumably Diane - , he wished to had Meliodas with him at the moment.
"Ah! I don't get it! Why is your hair so soft and shiny?!" Diane asked, gently attempting to brush over Meliodas's hair.
"I actually didn't shower today" he dropped, grinning widely, as an awkward expression took place in Diane's face ". King wanted for us to meet early, if I knew he was gonna be late, I would've showered."
"Captain!" King quickly replied, furrowing his brows at him as if demanding something "You explicitly said you expected me to be late! You could've showered!".
A chuckle. The redhead's brows rose widely as he turned around to discover Diane laughing at what he had said. "You guys are weird…" she commented, smiling so blissfully that King just couldn't take it as an insult.
"Yup, but so were the three musketeers" replied Meliodas, lying the back of his head onto his lifted hands ". did you know they were vegan?" he asked, facing both of his friends.
"For real?!" exclaimed an astonished Diane.
"That can't be true…" answered King, not seeming too convinced.
"Well, they could have" Meliodas took his hands down to his pockets, smiling widely as he allowed a few chuckles to fall of his lips ". Not that I've researched it."
King was more used than Diane to Meliodas's eccentric sense of humor. He had started to actually believe that his friend was half elf. He would rarely laugh at the things a normal person would, but would burst in laughter to his own mischievous jokes. Sometimes King wondered what would a psychologist think of Meliodas; maybe he violated psychology's laws of physics, if such a thing did exist.
But the girl, who was beginning to get lost on the conversation's track, had decided to start her own topic. "Ah, the weather feels so nice and warm today!" she shrieked, raising her stare up to the pieces of sky one could see in between the endless buildings "It's perfect for some ice cream! Sad thing I'm babysitting today…"
"Babysitting?" wondered Meliodas, widening his eyes at her "Who could you be babysitting?"
Diane furrowed her brows and pouted her lips, looking at Meliodas without daring to ask about what he actually meant with that question. "It's just a ten year old kid" she answered, glancing away ". His name is Gowther, and he's a bit… weird" there was an odd silence. King was constantly interested on whatever Diane would say, but it wasn't normal at all for Meliodas not to smile or make the tiniest joke. However, Diane didn't repair on that fact. ". He doesn't really have friends in school, and he's rejected every babysitter his mom's gotten him so far. I've been working with him for over two weeks now, it's a new record."
But Meliodas appeared to have gotten lost in thought. "Gowther…" he muttered, more to himself than for his friends "That's a cool name."
Their conversation seemed to die with that. A comment that got lost in the air, carried away by the breeze, as the school bell rang indicating them that it was finally time to get back to class.
By the time school ended, Diane would've still be tagging along with them. Ban still didn't agree to that, but he knew there wasn't much he could do about it, so he just dealt with it. At least it was nice enough to see that King's distress frown had changed into a smile, even though Diane was still as noisy as ever, talking nonstop about what ice cream flavor she would get if she hadn't had to babysit some random kid that day.
"It's such a shame… Besides, they live in such a remote part of the city. It's exactly the opposite side of my home." complained Diane while dramatically gesturing with her hands "And sure, now there's plenty of Edogawa buses, but they stop to run by so often as soon as I get out of my job, so…"
"You take the Edogawa line?!" King hadn't really meant to drop that question, but yet his lips did for him. Now he was wide eyed, looking at Diane, with a soft pink blush dusted over his cheeks.
This did trigger both Ban's and Meliodas devilish looks. The glanced at each other, smiling, knowing that fate had brought them over a new little gossip to joke around on the way to their respective destinies. However, Diane seemed rather confused to the redhead's reaction.
"Y-yeah, Gowther's home is in that direction…" she replied, both confused and uncomfortable "You take that bus as well, King?"
He didn't really know how to say yes at the time, but the gesture on his head let the four of them clear that indeed, he did.
Not that the bus ride hadn't been awkward in a first instance, but now it had transformed into another thing. King had never felt like he knew that little amount of words. All of a sudden, he was unable to speak. All he could do was stare at Diane, all distressed, trying to find out the way to give a correct answer to such an ambiguous and problematic question.
"You and Ban… you guys don't really like me, right?"
What was he supposed to say? What had made her ask such a thing? Had he been rude? Or impolite? No, maybe it was the fact that he had purposely ignored her during the whole ride? That seemed to make sense, but still, not even knowing that could he guess a way to reply.
"W-what makes you think that?" King finally asked, his hands shaking next to his pockets.
Diane looked away, to the window glass, losing her gaze in the street. "Well, Ban just plainly left" she explained, with a weak smile taking over her lips ". And you…" she continued "You just don't seem to talk that much when I'm around, neither do you laugh, or chill out a bit" she let her stare fall all the way to the floor, there were her black shoes lied.
King froze. His eyes fixed on her and his legs shaking. His mind was still trying to find something to say; something smart, something that would get them both out of that mess. But all he could think about were Diane's own words repeating over and over inside his head.
And as if the world had ceased to spin, the bus stopped, and Diane pulled her bag higher onto her shoulder as she sadly said "This is my stop". Her body had started to make her way through the small crowd that was left in the car, and King knew that if he was going to speak, he had to do it now. But his legs were froze in place, as his face in distress.
And Diane was taking one step.
And then another, as one of her feet climbed down on the stair.
And all of a sudden, the tip of her foot met the pavement on the street. And she was about to leave, to leave thinking that he hated her, when all he could do was think of her.
He didn't really know what he was going to do when he ran after the bus door, and Dianne seemed terribly puzzled at the sight of the ginger haired kid standing on the doorway, with an agitated look on his eyes, as the bus's engine continued to growl.
And then he yelled.
"Of course I like you Diane!" was what he said, so loud and clear that the girl couldn't mistake a single word "I like you a lot!"
The spring breeze brushed over Diane's skirt, as her eyes widened to the sound of those words. She would have replied, or she would've at least asked something. But then the car's doors closed on her face. She saw King's nervous expression through the window, partly reflecting her own confused look.
And then, the bus took him away, just like wind did with the leaves. Diane just stood still, frozen on the bus stop, with her right hand placed on her chest.
"King… you're a weird kid."
Ok, welcome to this messy attempt of a longfic. This was a nightmare to write because its the first time in ages I attempt to write in english (I'm a spanish speaker so this is a bit hard lmao).
Either ways, writting this felt awesome, and I hope reading it will as well. I am attempting to pursue a fanfic that isn't too centred on just one ship, so there'll be three of them developing as the story goes on: Melizabeth, Baleine and Kiane, the last one being sort of the main one because its my otp and u can fite me (?
The title is inspired by Billie Eilish's song under the same name, check it out.
And I will immediately apologize for any weird lastnames, I struggle with them.
