Why hello there, PokéFans! Wait, why do I assume you're a PokéFan? Well, you wouldn't be here if you weren't.
AzaiNagamasa here, writing my first ever Pokémon fanfiction! I do apologize if you find this fanfic lacking, as I am but a novice in writing a story! I usually imagine these in my mind and they just generate! Or I draw sketches, but still!
I hope you enjoy reading, like I'm enjoying working with this particular story! Before you start, however...
Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon, or any references I make, though you can check those after this.
Now, onto the chapter!
I didn't expect to get Isekai'd. Usually Truck-kun kills an Isekai protagonist, a random lightning bolt is also an example, heck, even death by shock was a thing! Me? Oh, I tripped.
That's right, you read it correctly. I died by tripping. I am now thoroughly disappointed in the Isekai Main Character standards.
But how did I know that I died? Surely if I could still open my eyes I'm alive, right? Yeah. That's what I thought as well. Until I couldn't recognize my surroundings. Now who would kidnap someone when they were unconscious? W-well, probably most kidnappers, but why would they take me to an open field? Yeah that's right, I have the last say, reader!
Aside from breaking the Fourth Wall, it suddenly became weird. This horse was staring at me, see? But that wasn't the creepy part. It's mane and it's tail were on fire. LITERALLY on fire. I'm not seeing things, there was actually yellow and reddish-orange flames the back of its head. Like a mane. Then it had a horn too! It's small, red eyes were looking at me in confusion. 'What the hell is this, Pokémon?' And of course, something happens.
My head started to ache getting visions. I see this woman, who had ebony black hair and emerald green eyes filled with love as she was... carrying me? Then she kept on bragging about her Rapidash wannabe, and her flying fire lizard. It looked a lot like a Charizard, if you ask me. I also saw her large orange dog. It was really big, like an... Arcanine... As the realization came to me, a she called out my name in another vision, when she was reprimanding me. 'My name is Green Valis? A freaking pun?!' were my thoughts before I passed out.
I woke up with a start, in a unfamiliar yet rather familiar place. 'This is... my bedroom?' It was filled to the brim with Pokémon merchandise, some I didn't think we had on Earth. 'Earth,' my original home. Apparently I'm in the Pokémon world now. Usually a person would be happy and sad at the same time with this realization, but I was a loner. Never knew my parents and never had friends, even in the orphanage. Though the matron was nice, because she got me started on playing the Pokémon games, main series or no. So, I don't have this sudden urge to try to find a way home.
Now I, a man of culture, had read numerous FanFiction. The best Self-Insert Pokémon FanFics out there in my opinion, "Y'know Nothing Jon Snow" by Umodin and Locksoli's "Dance, Dragon, Dance!" the main characters, Jon and Jareth, had dreams of becoming a specialist in their favorite typing, Flying-Type and Dragon-Type respectively. I, however, did not want to be a Type Specialist. I wanted to be a specialist in every Pokémon I decided to catch. I didn't want to be a Pokémon Master, of course. Locksoli's idea of it kinda got to me.
As I was thinking about which starter I would take in Kanto, seeing as a Rapidash, a Charizard, and an Arcanine was a sign that I am in the mentioned region and other information, my mother went in my room.
'My mother,' to think that I would even have one is a shock. From my memories, my mom's name is Viridian, a Fire-Type Specialist. She had been a trainee in Cinnabar Island, until she had me and retired. Her silk-like hair reached her waist and she wore a white apron over her red shirt and her blue pants. She also wore white sneakers. She looked at me in concern.
"Green!" she exclaimed as she rushed to my side. It made my chest warm up, in all honesty. "The doctor said that you had a fever! I asked Delia for a day-off. After all, I need to take care of you."
You also read that right. My mom works for Delia Ketchum's Diner. Ash Ketchum's mom. I'm in the anime.
"Mom," I said. "I'm totally fine." Oh Lord Helix, I'm a five year old again, my voice is really high-pitched.
Mom glared at me, "Oh no you're not, young mister! You need to rest." I pouted, but smiled inwardly. If this is what having a parent feels like, I like it.
"But it's gone now," I muttered. "Green, just rest for today," my mom practically ordered. "After all, tomorrow is the day Professor Oak's Summer Camp begins!"
I paused for a moment. The Pokémon Summer Camp. An important event for AmourShippers. Why? Because that is where Ash and Serena meet for the first time. In all honesty, I do not like or dislike Serena. But I admit, her chemistry with Ash is quite nice.
With great reluctance, I obeyed my mom and decided to tuck in for the day.
NEIGH!!!
I was jolted awake by the sound of a horse, which was oddly enough, a miniature Rapidash galloping around a Pokéball alarm clock. I check the time. '7:00 A.M.' An hour before it begins.
After a 10 minute bath, I took a look at my closet. I apparently own 5 sets of black shirts, green jackets and white shorts. Once I was done dressing up, I looked at the mirror and smiled. "I look really awesome." "Really?" I jumped at hearing the voice. Turning around, I saw that it was my mom. "Hey mom," I mumbled, looking at the ground embarrassed.
It didn't help that she kept smirking. Damn it, now I feel like I wanna die again. But not to the extreme! Nope.
A silent breakfast later, mom brought me to the Oak Laboratory, which took 10 minutes top. If you didn't get the hints I dropped while narrating, I live in Pallet Town. They were, uh, kinda obvious.
The Oak Laboratory really stands out because of its wind turbine, the three windows of the inner balcony, and the four windows of the second floor. You wouldn't miss it. It's basically Pallet Town's landmark, as besides the lab and the Oak Corral, which is where Oak licensed trainers leave their Pokémon, the other places to note are Xanadu Nursery, a greenhouse, and WPOK radio station. The houses and farms are then randomly placed, if you ask me, and separated by dirt trails and wide open fields. In short, it was a simple life.
Professor Samuel Oak greeted us, rather, my mom. "Viridian! It's good to see you! It seems you brought Young Green over!" Mom smiled at the renowned Pokémon Professor, "Of course! You see, my son here wanted to learn from you badly he practically begged me to bring him here!" The Professor laughed heartily, and I started blushing. "Go on, Green," she told me, "Say hi to Professor Oak!"
Then I began stuttering, which was something I rarely did, "I-it's nice to meet you, P-professor. I h-hope to learn m-many things from y-you..." 'Why am I acting like Hinata Hyuuga from Naruto?!'
"It's nice to meet you too, Young Green! Now why don't you play with the other children?" I look behind him and see several other children with him. My eyes roam until I spot a familiar face, it was little Ash Ketchum, the Chosen One himself. He was talking to his soon-to-be rival, Gary Oak. And of course, the little Oak noticed me staring at him, and waved. Frickin' WAVED.
Damn it. Now Ketchum is looking at me with a goofy grin. I sighed, 'Might as well get this over with...'
"Hey, I'm Ash!" He pointed to his rival, "This is Gary," he looked at me confused, "What's your name?"
"Green."
"Hey, Green, would you choose Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle? It's so hard to choose, and Gary just chose Squirtle!"
"Bulbasaur."
"What?! Why Bulbasaur?!" The little Oak yelled at my face, "Bulbasaur's the weakest among the three!"
"Do you know the 8 main Gyms in Kanto and their typing?"
"I do!" Ash excitingly answered. "The 8 main Gyms in Kanto are located in Pewter, Cerulean, Vermilion, Celadon, Fuchsia, Saffron, Cinnabarr Island, and Viridian City! Pewter use Rock-Types, Cerulean their Water-Types, Vermilion has Electric-Types, Celadon uses Grass-Types, Fuchsia has Poison-Types, Saffron the Psychic-Types, Cinnabar Island uses Fire-Types, and Viridian City uses Ground-Types!" The boy was gasping for his breath at the end of it all.
'Huh,' I thought, 'This Ash is smarter then the other Ashes — Pun Intended — of most FanFictions.' That's when I noticed the color of his eyes. The pupils were Crimson Red. Ash has brown eyes, not red. 'Don't tell me...' I looked at Gary's eyes. They were Cobalt Blue. If you didn't guess already, my name was based after my eyes, which were Emerald Green. Emphasize on Green. Perhaps this was fate?
After musing if fate was real or not, I responded to the little Oak's question, "Bulbasaur can handle the first 3 Gyms better than the other two."
Ash's eyes were shining bright by my explanation, while Gary snorted, "He doesn't do well on the next 4 Gyms though."
"Where I could have more options for my team by that time. The first three gives you a limited amount of species to work with." The look on the blue-eyed boy was a little funny, I have to admit.
"Wow, you're really smart!" I smirked at Ash's compliment. "But now I want a Charizard." 'Wait, wha—' "It'll be really cool if the three of us fight then! Venusaur versus Charizard versus Blastoise!"
The little Oak smirked, "I bet I can beat both of you by then!" Oh? You're challenging me? Instead of running away—Gah, wrong series!
Let's just say, it was the start of a beautiful friendship. And one hell of a rivalry.
Once I knew that they both consider me as a friend, I started calling Ash, "Red," and Gary, "Blue." When asked why I call them that, I respond by saying, "I was named because of my eye color, so I'm calling both of you Red and Blue." They immediately accept my answer like the 5 year-olds they were.
When it was time to go, I waved my mom goodbye as she went back home. Professor Oak took us to his corral, where he talked about Pokémon, which I found a little funny, because it was basically every introduction in a Pokémon mainstream game. The renowned Professor then allowed us to explore a bit, and Red got separated from Blue and I. We were both a little worried — Blue more so than I, as I just met him earlier that day — yet I was calm. I knew that he would most likely meet Serena by this point, and spend time with her too.
"Hey Green," Blue said, "What's your favorite Pokémon Type? Mine's the Water-Type!"
"Mine's the Water-Type too honestly," I replied.
Yes, my favorite Typing is Water. Most Water-Types look elegant or cool in my opinion. They can learn Ice-Type Moves which can counter its weakness to Grass-Types and use it against Dragon-Types. Half of my favorite Starters in each region are Water-Types as well. In Johto, Totodile. In Unova, Oshawott. In Kalos, Froakie. In Galar, Sobble. If I decided to be a Type Specialist, Water would be my choice.
"I'm telling you, Green. Blastoise is the best Water-type you can find in Kanto!" he said.
"I know, but there are also other amazing Water-Types here, like Starmie! It can learn lots of moves, and it's really fast!" I countered. It's super effective!
"You're right, you gonna catch one?" the little Oak asked. I answered, "Yeah, but I set my sights on a Horsea." You heard me right, I want a Horsea. To be honest, Kingdra is my favorite Pokémon. I find its design regal and cool. Never had one, sadly. So my priority for the Water-Type in my Kanto team would be Kingdra, but Starmie is a close second.
"What about a Fire-Type?" I sighed. That was the hard part. My mom, Viridian, as I've said earlier, was a Fire-Type Specialist. She's one of the best when it comes to Fire-Type Pokémon. But I didn't want to have the same Pokémon as she does. I want variety.
"Either a Vulpix or a Houndour. It's nice that some wild Johto Pokémon have started appearing in Kanto more often." And it was true. Like how some Kanto-origined Pokémon are in other regions, Johto-origined Pokémon are finding themselves here. An example for this, as I've mentioned, is Houndour. I actually like this species and have used it countless times in playthroughs. Houndooms have really cool designs.
"I guess," Gary murmured, "But I think Arcanine's still better."
I grinned. Gary Oak was really smarter than that of his age group. It's like talking to a fellow PokéFan, but at the same time, it's not.
Professor Oak called us all over. Blue and I then met up with Red and his lady friend, who was Serena. The rest of the day was just small talk, with crimson-eyed boy having the attention span of a toddler, and the other two following his lead. Can't really blame them though, they're FIVE for crying out loud. The Pokémon Professor had prepared some rooms for us children to sleep. I sighed, 'I can plan more for the next few years, I suppose. I need to enjoy my second chance at life.' Since everyone else was asleep, I stared at the ceiling.
'Wait a minute... Am I gonna experience puberty again?! '
