Kakashi sat at his desk overlooking the ten young adults in his office with an amused smile. Luckily he always wore a mask so the ninja in his office couldn't see his smile. His finger was laced together as he rested his head on it.
Ten pairs of eyes looked at him for information about why all ten of them were in his office at the same time. Some inpatient and some just waiting patiently.
"What's this all about Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto called out impatiently, vocalising the question on everyone's mind.
"Address him as Hokage, idiot!" Sakura yelled as she hit him over his head.
"It's okay Sakura." Kakashi said with a smile, he didn't like the formalities anyway.
Currently, Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, Sai, Ino, Shikamaru, Lee, Tenten, Neji and Hinata stood in the Hokage's office to await the important information Kakashi had to tell them. Naruto stood in front of Kakashi's desk, rubbing his head while Sakura stood next to him. Sasuke was leaning on the left wall of the room. Sai stood to Naruto's left with his usual fake smile.
Ino stood behind Sakura playing with her long blond hair since she was bored and had nothing to do. Shikamaru stood at the back of the group with his hands in his pockets while staring at the clouds outside the window. Lee stood to the left of the group behind Sai starting to do squats because he couldn't standstill.
Neji stood with crossed arms next to Lee while Tenten stood to Neji's right with her arms behind her back as she smiled at him. Hinata also stood at the back of the group fidgeting with her fingers as she watched Naruto.
"What's this about Kakashi-sensei?" Sasuke asked, repeating Naruto's question while Sakura turned her head to Kakashi for the answer.
"Oh, so she'll hit me but not him." Naruto mumbled under his breath in irritation as he rubbed the back of his sore head.
"Did you say something, Naruto?" Sakura asked as she glared at Naruto.
"No, nothing at all." Naruto quickly said as he looked away.
"As you all know we recently found a scroll in our village that affects all the male ninja in our village what you don't know is that the scroll has been opened." Kakashi said making all the male ninja in the office scowl except innocent lee and emotionless Sai while the females looked slightly confused.
They knew Kakashi told all the male ninja what the scroll did but he never bothered telling the female ninja.
"I know about the scroll, but what does this scroll actually do because I can't see anyone acting differently." Sakura asked on behalf of all the girls in the room.
"Well, you see Sakura... This scroll makes all the male ninja act on their primal... mating... instincts." Kakashi explained with a smile making everyone go white in the room.
This didn't sound good...
"Why do you look so happy about it? It'll affect you too." Neji asked grumpily as he looked at Kakashi.
"Well you see Neji, we found a loophole. We found a way that we can get the scroll to not affect everyone, however, we still need it to affect some ninja so it can play out its course." Kakashi explained making Neji raise an eyebrow.
"What idiot opened the scroll?" Sasuke asked just as grumpy as Neji.
"I did." Kakashi answered with a smile making most of the men in the room jaws drop in horror.
"But why?" Naruto asked for all of them.
However, Shikamaru realised what was going on before Kakashi could answer.
"Oh no... you opened it because you were curious as to how we'll react to the scroll..." Shikamaru said in horror as he watched a smiling Kakashi while all the girls just stood there with raised eyebrows.
"That's right, all the male ninja in this room is the lucky winners that'll be affected." Kakashi said as he laughed.
"What?!" Naruto exclaimed in disbelief while Sasuke and Neji stared daggers at Kakashi with crossed arms.
Shikamaru just shrugged, how can the scroll affect him if there's currently nobody in the leaf village he likes. Sai just stood there with his fake smile while Lee took the words 'lucky winners' to literally. He struck a pose with his thumbs up making every man in the room glared at him except Sai and Kakashi.
"Sadly Kiba, Shino and Chouji aren't in the village right now... buuuut..." Kakashi said sadly but perked up at the end.
"But what?" Shikamaru asked as panicked slowly raised in him, not liking where he's going with this.
"But Temari is visiting the leaf village for official business and I somehow convinced Gaara that she should stay for a month and a half. However, nobody bothered telling Temari about our... situation. I'm officially calling it the mating season." Kakashi laughed as his amusement returned to him while Shikamaru's eyebrow twitched.
"Are you drunk?" Naruto asked dead serious.
"No." Kakashi answered bluntly.
"She'll kill me." Shikamaru said softly as tears started streaming down his face.
"Are you okay Shikamaru?" Hinata asked because of her sweet nature.
"I'm fine, perfectly fine." Shikamaru said knowing he's doomed and is probably going to die.
"Uhm excuse me... but why are we, the female ninja, here? What do we have to do with all this?" Sakura asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Trust me Sakura, everyone in this room will be affected." Kakashi said as he laughed, making the males snap their head at him, ready to make him shut up if he says anything more.
However, Kakashi knew better than to say it out loud so he ran it through his mind. It was obvious Lee would go for Sakura and he's pretty sure Naruto will go for Hinata. Kakashi had speculations about Neji and Shikamaru, hence Temari coming to the leaf. Kakashi was just plain curious as to who Sasuke and Sai would be going for...
"Oh and if you're thinking about leaving the leaf village. It's not going to work. We already started the process, you're currently going through phase 1. Phase 2 will start tomorrow so you'll feel the effects tomorrow. You'll go wherever your mates are. So you'll come back to the leaf regardless if you already left." Kakashi said as the men looked at him in horror.
"Oh, and by the way Shikamaru I'm giving you a mission." Kakashi said making Shikamaru groan.
Please no...
"You'll be escorting Temari for the duration of her stay." Kakashi said with a smile.
"Why do you hate me?" Shikamaru asked, he usually didn't mind escorting her but this was a different situation.
"Wait, what are these phases?" Naruto asked panicked.
"The mating season with last little over a month. There'll be four phases overall. Each phase will last a week. The first phase is where you still have control. You'll only think about the person you like, that's how you identify your... mate. That phase already started six days ago without your knowledge." Kakashi said, he started the whole procedure before telling them.
"That makes a lot of sense." All the males mumbled except Lee and Sai who stayed silent.
It made sense to the men know why they couldn't keep their mind of certain kunoichi's.
"Shouldn't you have consulted us before starting this whole troublesome thing?" Shikamaru asked with a glare.
"No, I'm Hokage." Kakashi answered bluntly making Shikamaru groan in frustration as he rubbed his temples.
"What's the other three phases?" Sakura asked curiously.
"Phase two is where you lose your control more. Everyone's personalities will start to change. In phase three the men in this room will get more protective and clingy over their partners. Phase four will be the actual mating part and if you're really unlucky a phase five will happen..." Kakashi explained as Hinata went red from the thoughts running wild in her mind while most people just stared at Kakashi.
Hinata looked like she was about to pass out so Neji walked over to her to fan her hot face so she wouldn't pass out.
"I thought you said there are only four phases!" Neji snapped irritated as he continued to fan Hinata's face.
"Yes because there's only a fifth phase of your unlucky." Kakashi replied with a shrug.
Shikamaru sighed at this, knowing his luck he'll probably be one of the unlucky ones...
"What's phase five?" Tenten asked curiously.
"I don't know exactly..." Kakashi said averting his eyes suspiciously.
"You don't know or you don't want to tell us?" Shikamaru asked narrowing his eyes at Kakashi.
"Don't be like that Shikamaru. It'll be a fun surprise." Kakashi said amused as everyone in the room glared at him.
"None of this is fun." Sasuke said with a scoff.
"It soon will be." Kakashi said to Sasuke as he wiggled his eyebrows which made Sasuke facepalm.
He was going to kill Kakashi...
"How do you know all this?" Ino asked making Kakashi's eyes avert to the blond.
"Everything is on the scroll. Plus a similar incident happened years ago when I was still in the Anbu but only the women were affected... I nearly died." Kakashi said with a shiver as he remembered being chased by more than half of the female Anbu ninjas.
"Anyway your all dismissed." Kakashi said as they all left, most of them quite grumpy.
"Enjoy Konoha's mating season!" Kakashi yelled after them.
"Fuck you!" Most of the men in the group yelled back making Kakashi chuckle.
The group of ten walked out of the office in silence. The girls not knowing what to say while the men silently thought about their situation. However their minds quickly strayed to their... how did Kakashi put it... mates.
"You should be happy Sasuke, you get to revive your clan now." Naruto said breaking the silence as he laughed at Sasuke, making Sasuke's eyebrow twitch.
"Utter one more word Naruto and I will kill you." Sasuke growled being in a particularly bad mood thanks to Kakashi.
"Come on Sasuke, don't..." was all Naruto got out before Sasuke punched him, making Naruto slam into the wall and fall to the ground while he trotted away.
"That bastard..." Naruto growled as he stood up.
"Are you okay Naruto?" Hinata asked worryingly as she rushed over to him and checked over him, making him forget about Sasuke as his mind once again went to Hinata.
"I'm okay." Naruto said with a soft smile as he locked eyes with Hinata.
The group continued walking without Hinata and Naruto as they stared at each other. However Neji stopped and was about to say something, but Tenten quickly put her hand over his mouth.
"Let them have this moment Neji." Tenten said as she took her hand away.
"But Tenten..." Neji tried but was interrupted.
"No buts." Tenten replied as she pulled Neji away much to his dismay.
"I... Uhm... I have to go." Hinata said as she stumbled over her words while Naruto just smiled at her.
"Where are you going? I'll walk with you." Naruto said as Hinata got lost in his beautiful cerulean eyes and soft smile.
"I said I'll help Hinabi train." Hinata answered.
"I thought Neji usually does that." Naruto said as he walked side by side with Hinata, breaking their eye contact which disappointed Hinata slightly.
"She's my sister so I make time to spend with her, even if it's to help her train." Hinata said as she tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear as she watched the ground.
Naruto walked with Hinata until they stopped in front of the Hyuga mansion. They said their goodbyes, but Naruto couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. However he just shrugged it off then walked to Ichiraku's ramen while Hinata activated her Byakugan when Naruto left, she also had a feeling that someone was watching her and low and behold someone was.
Hinata saw Neji behind the wall when she activated her Byakugan. She turned around and watched Neji with a disapproving face while she stood with her hands on her hips, knowing her cousin could see her disapproval. However, he just turned around and walked away with crossed arms.

Everyone walked away from Kakashi's office as they left Naruto and Hinata behind. Sasuke was fuming as he stomped to his apartment. This was not his ideal situation. Sakura sighed as she watched him stomp off.
"Sakura! Want to go get something to eat?" Lee asked, surprisingly not saying 'youth' once, surprising Tenten.
"Sorry Lee, I have to get back to the hospital." Sakura said politely as she started walking to the hospital with a wave goodbye.
Lee sighed in depression as he walked away, however, Tenten knew he'd recover quickly and start with his training again. Ino walked back to her flower shop she ran with her mom while Sai walked someplace nobody knew, probably to draw. Tenten saw Hinata and Naruto walk together away from Kakashi's office, making Tenten smile.
However, her smile quickly fell as she remembered about Neji.
"Wait, Neji..." Tenten started as she turned around but he was already gone.
Tenten sighed in exaggeration as she shook her head.
"Might as well go back to the shop." Tenten said as she started walking to the weapon shop she owned, not bothering to go after the overprotective Neji.
Shikamaru sighed as he walked to his favourite spot on the hill to watch clouds. This whole ordeal is troublesome and he didn't want to be a part of it. Shikamaru walked with his hands in his pockets and glanced at where the sun was setting. The sun was making its slow descent towards the horizon.
Shikamaru sighed and looked at the clouds. They had approximately 9 hours until midnight. Until the transition to phase 2. Personality changes. How troublesome...
And to crown it all Temari would be in the village in two days. If she doesn't kill him by the end of the mating season he sure as hell will be beaten up by her, all the while well his mom side's with Temari. His mom has taken quite a liking to Temari. They accidentally ran into each other a few years ago when Shikamaru was escorting Temari and from that day his mom believes she was the right woman for him, which was extremely troublesome.
Shikamaru reached his favourite spot on the hill and laid underneath the tree as he watched the clouds float by peacefully. For once in his life, he wished he was away on a mission so he didn't have to take part in this mating season. He really envied Shino, Chouji and Kiba right now. They don't have to be a part of the troublesome season.
However, Kakashi did send Chouji to the lightning village which Shikamaru found strange. Sakura would've been more suited for the job but he chose to send Chouji. Kakashi was plotting something. Clearly, he didn't have enough work on his hands if he was causing all this trouble.
If he just kept the scroll closed everything would've been fine and nothing troublesome would've happened but he decided to open the scroll anyway and to bring Temari all the way over to the leaf village from Suna.
However, it made sense to Shikamaru now why he couldn't keep that troublesome woman out of his mind. It was all Kakashi's fault. He really did hope that Sasuke strangled him...
But one thing still bothered Shikamaru... How did Kakashi even convince Gaara to make Temari stay this long?

"Gaara, I've been meaning to ask..." Kankurou started as he entered the office of his little brother.
Gaara stopped with his work and looked up at his older brother.
"What is it Kankurou?" Gaara asked so Kankurou could ask his question.
"I get why Temari's going to the leaf village, but is it necessary that she stays there so long?" Kankurou asked scratching his head.
"Yes." Gaara replied bluntly.
"But, why?" Kankurou asked still not getting why.
Gaara has never sent Temari to the leaf for that long...
"Simple, she has business there..." Gaara answered.
"And..." Kankurou said, knowing there was more to the story.
"The Kages are having a betting pool about whether Shikamaru will make it to phase 4 or will Temari kill him before then." Gaara answered without any emotion making Kankurou sweatdrop.
She's staying in the leaf village because of a betting pool...
"Wait, phase what?" Kankurou asked confused.
"Kakashi opened a scroll that induces a mating season so to say on certain shinobi Kakashi chose." Gaara answered.
"You sent our sister to a village with undergoing a mating season?" Kankurou asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes." Gaara replied bluntly as he nodded his head.
"Eh. It can't be helped then." Kankurou said as he shrugged.
"So why did Kakashi open the scroll?" Kankurou asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Because he was bored." Gaara replied as he looked at Kankurou who just blinked at him.
"Okay, so who bet on what?" Kankurou asked.
"The Hokage and the Mizukage voted that Shikamaru would make it to phase 4 while the Tsuchikage, Raikage and I voted that Temari will kill him before that." Gaara answered.
Man, Kankurou wanted in on this bet...
"Did you tell Temari about the betting pool?" Kankurou asked curiously.
"No." Gaara answered, he still wanted to live.
"Smart..." Kankurou said nodding in approval.
"Did you tell her about the mating season?" Kankurou asked as a smile started spreading on his face.
"Of course not, I want to win the betting pool." Gaara said in a matter of fact tone as he continued his work while Kankurou burst out laughing.
Poor Shikamaru...

Temari sneezed as she walked towards the leaf village. Rubbing her nose in confusion. Was she getting a cold?
"Bless you." A voice said behind her, surprising her.
Temari took her fan of her back and swung it at the stranger behind her, however, the stranger dodged at the last minute as his dog barked.
"Woah, simmer down." Kiba said as he jumped back.
"Dammit Kiba!" Temari said as she sighed and put her fan back on her back.
It was only the dog lover.
"What are you doing here anyway?" Temari asked as she continued walking.
She was still a day away from Konoha.
"I'm on my way back to the leaf after a mission and you?" Kiba said walking next to her.
"Oh, Gaara sent me on some business..." Temari shrugged.
She had no idea what awaited her...
