The Life of the Lightfoot Family:
Long ago, the world was full of wonder, it was full of adventure, it was full of magic. Magic helped all in need. Magic helped defeated monsters both large and small. Magic was the core of the world's
But as the centuries passed, magic became difficult to master. So, the world found an easier, more simple way to come by. As time passed when technology was invented, magic faded away until the world that was once full of that wonder became a land of advanced technology.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
A young elf woke up. She sat up and yawned and rubbed her eyes and pressed the off button on her alarm clock on her bedside table. She walked to the window and opened it let in the beautiful morning sunlight. She breathed in the fresh morning air and then breathed out with a smile.
Her name was Bethany or "Bethy", or "Beth" for short. She was a cyan elf with long turquoise hair with matching eyes, a few short strands on the right side of her head and pointy ears. She dressed herself up in a purple tunic with indigo stripes snaking around the yoke and sleeves, black leggings, short brown boots and an indigo cardigan with the sleeves rolled back. She wore her deceased mother Laurel's golden pendent and braided her hair over her left shoulder. She clipped a few silver stars on the right side of her head to hold the right side's strands back a bit.
She slipped her school backpack on her back and exited her bedroom. Suddenly a little long-lengthened dragon who was green and yellow and hyper jumped onto her body, causing her to fall on the floor. The dragon started licking all over her face.
"Okay! Lizzie! Stop! Stop!" Bethy cried out giggling. "Please! That tickles!"
"Alright Lizzie! Off Bethy now!" a younger male's voice spoke from behind.
"Spray! Spray!" a cheerful girl's voice squealed out.
Lizzie was sprayed with water. She cowered behind Bethy's back before scurrying away.
"Morning Ian! Morning Isla!" Bethy greeted her younger siblings.
"Morning Bethy!" both twins greeted.
Ian had short hair, the same colour as his older sister, that bounced up on his head and brown round eyes. He was casually dressed in a checked red shirt with blue jeans and matching converses.
His younger twin Isla wore a short red dress with a cyan cardigan, leggings and shoes. She had short hair held back by a headband.
"Thanks for saving me from Lizzie again," she said to them as she got up. "She always does that every time I wake,"
"You should have seen the look on your face when she did that," Ian giggled.
"It sounded like you were being tortured under her licks," Isla added, giving her elder sister a playful punch to the shoulder.
"Oh, ha ha ha," Bethy sarcastically replied, simulating a smile. "Sleep well guys?"
"Yep! You?" both jined again.
"Kids!" a loud voice bellowed from downstairs. "Are you guys dressed?"
"We're dressed up Uncle Larry!" Bethy called back down.
"And stop calling us kids!" Ian whined back. "It's so annoying!"
"Make sure you have a quick breakfast! We're leaving in five minutes!"
In less than five minutes, the three siblings had blackberry jam toast and some cereal. Just when they had finished, they saw a frantic blue elf rush down the hallway in a black suit with a black briefcase. "Time to go now kids! Let me drop you off!"
"Uncle, we can walk to school ourselves," Isla assured. "You should get going whilst you still can,"
"Are you sure kids?"
"Uncle…" Bethy complained. "We're old enough to walk to school by yourselves,"
"Okay. Just remember to call me…."
"Every break-time. We know," Ian smacked his forehead, constantly annoyed at his father's overprotective nature.
"Okay. I'm off now," he was about depart through the door when his eldest niece cried.
"Uncle! You forgot your car keys!" she took them from the kitchen table and tossed them to her uncle.
"Okay. Thanks Bethy!" Larry caught them. "By the way, I need you to shop for some groceries after school and hoover the house and cook dinner. I won't be back until ten tonight! Bye!"
HE slammed the door and drove away in his car.
"Not again," Bethy complained. "He's always of working late and he's always telling me to keep looking after the house and I have my big A-Level Exams in less than a month,"
"Don't worry Bethy, we'll help you take care of the house," Isla promised.
"Really? Thanks, I don't know what I would do without you guys," Bethy side-hugged her younger siblings.
"I'm more annoyed about the fact that he still treats us like we can't look after ourselves," Ian said grimly.
"Me too," Bethy agreed.
Ever since Bethy was five and the twins were only two, their uncle Larry, workaholic and busy to the late hours of the night, had raised them as his own children.
Bethy heard a ding-dong from her back pocket and pulled out her phone and looked at the screen. It was a text from her best friend Bruno. It said: 'Meet you at the park,'
"Bruno wants to meet us at the park, and we can walk to school from there with him,"
"Alright, let's go!" Isla jumped around for joy.
The three children skipped merrily along the streets until they came to the park. There they saw a handsome lime-green elf with dark-green hair and bright brown eyes seated on a bench reading a comic book.
"Hay Bruno!" Bethy happily called over to her best friend earning his attention.
Her best friend looked up and saw her and her siblings waving over to him. "Hey Bethy!" Bruno called back. "Hey Ian and Isla!" He wore a black t-shirt under a ripped vest with patches, a round black beanie on his hat and spiky bracelets on each wrist. He had been best friends with Bethy ever since first grade at their prep school. And over the years he had become a sort of surrogate brother to Ian and Isla who he was happy to out with occasionally aside from Bethy.
"How is this glorious Trio doing today?" he asked.
"This glorious Trio is doing splendid," Bethy replied back.
"Well, this glorious Trio now called the Fearsome Four should get going to school," Ian answered.
The four started walking together down the pathway towards their High School.
"Are you excited about tomorrow?" he asked eagerly.
"Oh yes. Definitely," Bethy told him.
"I can't believe you're turning eighteen!" Isla squealed out, jumping around for joy.
Ian exploded with excitement well at the idea of his sister turning eighteen. "Everyone knows one's eighteenth birthday is the most important birthday of them all,"
"Okay! Okay!" Bethy giggled attempted to calm them down. "You know that birthdays are just an annual thing guys,"
"But not when you're eighteen! You're finally goanna be an adult!" Ian, even at 15 years was as ecstatic as a mad Hatter.
"I think you are getting a bit over-excited," Bethy said. "It is just a birthday after all,"
"What new things are you going to try out?" Bruno asked. "When I turned eighteen at the beginning of our new school year Beth, I tried out loads of new things with you guys and my dad. Remember that?"
"Yep. We went driving through Mushroom ton in your cool van," Isla remembered.
"By the way how is dear Guinevere doing?" Ian asked.
"Oh, she's doing okay," a vague Bruno answered. "But she got pummelled yesterday with flying eggs,"
Bethy knew who it was. "Stephany" she grumbled. "Not her again,"
Ian groaned as he remembered Bethy and Bruno's school nemesis. "That spoilt brat. She thinks she's 'so perfect' that she can do whatever she wants to other people. She thinks she so rich and has so many cool vehicles that she can damage other people's vehicles thinking they're just piles of junk,"
"Well, Guinevere is a pile of junk," Bruno said sadly.
"Don't say that Bruno," Bethy rubbing his shoulder blades. "Guinevere's beautiful,"
"Beautiful? For starters, the air-conditioning being overpowered, the ignition having to be turned just so in order to start it up and some of its parts keeps falling off," Bruno complained.
"So what? We can get fix its flaws," Bethy promised.
"Yeah. and when we see Stephany, I'm goanna throw an egg at her face," Isla promised.
"No, you won't," Bethy stopped her. "That's just goanna get you into trouble at school. Not to mention with her dad: 'The Mayor',"
"But how is it fair that she has to get away with everything?" Ian moaned. "Why can't she just have a taste of her medicine?"
"Because she's 'Mr. Mayor's daughter'," Bruno pointed out. "He says anyone who messes with her, messes with him too,"
"Let's just try and avoid her today," Bethy suggested. "And if it's possible, we can play a trick on her to get even with her for what she did to your van,"
"It's okay," Bruno insisted holding her hand. "Let's just enjoy the day while we still can before your big day tomorrow,"
The four finally made it to their high school and entered the hallways alongside dozens of other students including grouchy goblins, clumsy centaurs, pessimistic cyclops and other elves either blue or green or purple or red. The group split up to go to their different classes; it was going to be a big day.
