Fred and George couldn't take Umbridge anymore. Or any school authority for that matter. They were planning on leaving and starting their own thing, just the two of them. But there was one other person who knew about it. ~Set in Order of the Phoenix~
Fred and George were tired. They loved antagonizing authority figures, that was a fact, but they needed more and they needed it fast.
Hogwarts was not what it once was. Filch was a proper bother as always, but Umbridge was nothing short of outrageously infuriating. The twins were never ones to run from a challenge, but seeing those two felt more like torture, and they were not that keen on pain and suffering.
They had spent the whole of their Easter holiday laying low and giving the students that didn't go home a little break, so they could rest, have fun or even catch up on their reading and homework. Not planning pranks, thinking about them, or assembling them gave Fred and George a lot of time to think about other things, and homework was definitely not high on their priority list.
It was all this thinking that led them into the Room of Requirement at around 2 in the morning to discuss their future, both in Hogwarts and outside of it.
"Wherever we want to go, we'll go," said George, looking over at his worried twin. "It's time, Fred, to at least think about it. Even if we complete the term, we don't have much more time here."
"Well, I am a bit tired of people only seeing us as irresponsible and immature."
"To be fair, when Percy was your age, he had already mapped out his whole life," said a very familiar voice right behind them.
They turned around, wands in hand, seeing nothing but the couches, a painting of a girl in a strawberry field, and the centre table, with rolls of parchment, quills and bottles of ink. A red-haired girl slowly started to appear right in front of their eyes as Ginny lifted the Disillusionment Charm that concealed her. It was as if her upper body had left the painting, but Fred and George knew better than to think that it had actually happened. They used that charm all the time to evade Filch. Their favourite place to do it was the kitchens. Nothing better than to look down on your body and see a glass of pumpkin juice where your arm should have been.
"What are you doing hiding there?" asked Fred, recovering from the way his heart was beating. They were usually the ones who snuck up on people, not the other way around, but Ginny had always had a knack for mischief herself and they had faith that she would follow in their footsteps.
"I was bored. Couldn't sleep, so I went to the Common Room to read a bit when I saw the two of you sneaking out. I had to follow, you see, to make sure you wouldn't get into trouble," she replied with a smirk on her face.
"Wait, so you've been here hiding this entire time?" inquired George, blinking rapidly three times, like he did every time he was processing difficult information.
"Yep!" Ginny took a few steps forward and sank into one of the couches, throwing her legs over its red arms. "Now, please tell me what in Merlin's name you two were talking about. I have never heard such an abstract conversation in my life, and I've heard dad and Percy talking about Ministry work."
"That's not abstract conversation, Gin. It's just plain boring and you tune out." George took a seat next to his sister, lifting her head from the cushion and laying it on his own lap.
"True that. You do have a point there," she admitted, pointing a finger up to scratch his chin.
"Also, I don't care about what Percy did when he was our age. He's an arse. I wouldn't want to live up to that." Fred propped up on the back of the couch.
"You're also not wrong there. But you're stalling. So, go ahead. What's going on?"
Fred sighed and looked over at George, who was obviously conflicted. They knew their mum didn't approve of their products or ideas and they didn't want to go through the same with any other member of the family. They looked at Ginny, laying on a couch with them in the middle of the night, genuinely curious about their plans. They could never say no to her.
"Fine," started Fred. "We've been thinking–"
"Ugh, not a good start already," Ginny interrupted. "It's dangerous when you two do that."
"Do you want to know what we're planning or not, you little Cornish Pixie?" he teased, while George tickled her.
"Oi! Tickling andoffending? Have you no shame?" She took a minute to recompose herself. "Fine, I won't interrupt anymore. I'm all ears. Tell me."
And so they did. They told her everything. About already looking for places to set up the shop, negotiating prices, brainstorming new products, the design of the storefront they were putting together, the list of names they had assembled, both for the shop and the products. Banner ideas, ways to get the word around. Holiday specials. Everything. With each sentence, Ginny straightened up more and more on the couch, eyes a little wide and lips parted.
"Please, say something." George gave her shoulder a little nudge, once they were finished.
"I am… totally blown away!" Ginny was frankly shocked by how thought through their plan was. She knew how smart they were, of course she did, but she had never heard them quite like that.
She thought they would get a small place in Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley just so they had somewhere to store all those things they made that their mum hated. They had everything ready in their heads and she was really proud. More than that, it was obvious that they couldn't wait to get started.
"Do you know what this means?" asked George, eyeing his little sister.
"That mum will definitely disown you now, and I'll have two Christmas feasts?"
"Ha-ha, very funny." Fred teasingly messed her hair with his fingers and smiled. "But don't worry, little sis. We'll be here for a little while longer."
"Or not. When the time is right, we'll know. Now, go to sleep," said George, pointing to the clock on the wall. "It's almost 6 in the morning and I don't want you to spend your last Sunday of the holiday sleeping."
He winked and she laughed. Ginny knew just how much she would miss her twin brothers, but she knew even better just how much they needed to do this and she would be damned if she let anyone get in the way of their vision.
