Introduction

Serena Snape a half human – half altean girl rescued from the evil Galra Empire. She had been adopted by a human and taught by a denobulan. Walk through her journeys and adventures in Starfleet. And follow her romance with Malcolm Reed as they find happiness between the madness of the world. Warning: Mary Sue female character so if you don't like don't read. Reed/OC romance. This fanfiction won't follow the classic flow of novels. It is going to be rather glimpses of adventures here and there. The order of the chapters won't represent the chorological order of the events. By the time we will see more and more details of the whole story.

AN: I don't own anything except Serena Snape my OC character. There will be a few chapters talking about Galra Empire, which is the evil force from Voltron The Legendary Defender. It's only a main interaction between the two series and doesn't follows the happenings and other characters of the cartoon, so I won't make this a crossover. And Malcolm is a Commander here not Lieutenant.

Chapter 1: Their First Meeting

Serena POV

It was 6:00am in the morning and rain was hanging around the corner. The grey clouds towered in the sky. She was standing under the atrium of Oxford Military University. Staring into the distance her thoughts were running far away.

Beginning of the term. One year of post-gradual academy on Earth. She wanted to join the Earth Starfleet, but one crazy year was in her way. She has already completed her studies on Denobula about medical and animal behaviour. To join Starfleet specially Enterprise, however she must complete a one-year basic training of science, combat, engineering and armoury. Her last few years were full of fears and worries. Fears from her past and worries about her future.

Humans. Her main knowledge based on books. Of course, her adoptive father was human, and she loved him deeply she was still nervous. Humans are full of prejudice and specially against half-bloods. She remembered the day she met her father the first time on that Galra ship. She was almost dead, covered in blood with seizures, covering in one of the corners of the cell she had been put in. When the door opened, she thought she was going to die. But a human stood there holding out a hand to a secure and safe future. Which she gladly accepted. That was 5 years ago.

Suddenly she felt someone bump into her shoulder.

„Hey can't you just get out of my way half-blood?!" and unfriendly voice told her.

She immediately pulled away and lowered her eyes.

„I am sorry. I will be more careful next time. I was just thinking, and I think I zoned out a bit. Won't happen next time." she tried to swallow that knot in her throat.

„Of course, it won't happen again. Because if you get in my way the next time you will regret that you even born. I really don't understand why we let these half-bloods into our universities. First the vulcans who just hold us back. Now anything that can breathe Earth oxygen. What do you think guys?" the unfriendly cadet paused, and Serena dared a little side glance to whom he is speaking to. There were 2 more of them, both males they were grinning as devil.

„Yes, you are definitely right Thomas. But this one is quite appetizing." they started to laugh darkly.

Serena didn't realise that she stepped back to a corner it was dead end. She felt her breath and pulse rise. She was contemplating all the escape routes and possibilities, but she miserably failed to find any escape. Suddenly she heard some faint but strong hurried steps.

„What is going on here?!" a new deep male voice demanded.

„UH. Am. Nothing Sir! We just expressed our welcoming words to our new classmate Sir!" Thomas stepped back immediately.

„Its Commander for you! I'm happy that you are showing friendly behaviour toward your new comrade. Dismissed! All of you guys!" the stern voice demanded.

Serena didn't dare to look up to the owner of the voice. She was so focused on melting into the wall. She just listened to the voice and it was comforting. Had some calm tone in it. It was clear without looking that he was an officer. A commander.

„Cadet, are you alright?" the voice asked. She was not aware that the 3 men disappeared. She didn't respond.

„Cadet!" closer this time. He was talking to her she realised.

Still with her lowered eyes she collected herself.

„Yes Commander! Thank you. We only had a little misunderstanding. No harm done." she said. She even surprised herself how strong her voice sounded.

„Your name Cadet?"

„Serena Snape Sir!" she was aware of his gaze. It wasn't uncomfortable, but was definitely there. She started to rise her hands to salute…

„At ease Cadet!"

„Thx Sir!"

„Please take an advice. Look your superiors in the eyes. It can be useful..." he said calmly.

She realised that she still staring to the ground. She nodded and slowly raised her head. Her eyes met his for the first time. It was as if the world stopped for a moment. She felt her heart drumming in her ears, her palms stated to sweat. Her eyes met with the most beautiful brown ones. She felt calmness flooding here system and immediately relaxed.

„…And secondly please avoid those troublemakers. This kind of cadets are not suitable for space travel. They will never finish this school and they know it. They are just envy and bullying everybody who has the potential. Please don't make bad conclusion about us, I can assure you, the biggest part of humanity is an accepting community. It's true we are still learning to live together with other species. By the way Commander Malcom Reed."

Finally, she collected herself and started to collect her books which she just realised fell to the ground.

„Thank you, Commander. I will take them to my heart. I don't know them…" one more book.

„… but I am sure I will avoid them as much as I can."

Last book – she thought. When she saw her book in the commanders hands and saw the slight pause in his movements, she followed his eyes, the realisation striked through her suddenly, he was her Tactical and Weaponry teacher and the officer assigned to the Enterprise NX-01. She saw him smiling with a shy but confident smile.

„Looks like we are heading to the same direction. Would you mind accompanying me?" he asked.

„Not at all Sir. At least I could be sure that I won't get lost." she smiled. She reached for her book and felt their fingers lightly touching. It was fully unintentional on both sides, but she felt heat rise up in her fingers. The more embarrassing part was that she felt her face also lit up.

„Well yeah. This way Cadet." he withdrawed and turned to the main building.

She followed him silently and smiled to herself. Some general calmness got over her. She finally found some positive thoughts. And anyway, if she avoids those morrons as Commander Reed suggested she will be fine.

Malcolm POV

Last term. Last term before they will launch the Enterprise NX-01. He had been waiting for this for 5 years. One last year with cadets. One boring year. It was clear to him that these cadets are not interested in armoury or tactical knowledge. They are here to get basic training and after to be granted the permission to serve on a starship. They already specialized on their unique fields. One in engineering others in medicine others in science. His lectures will be boring but necessary to everyone as always. Of course, there will be a few whose basic expertise is also armoury but only a few. These young cades wanted to be explorers not soldiers. Wars had avoided Earth for too long and some forgot he meaning of war. The meaning of defending those who you love the most. The price of war. They must learn. They must be able to pull the trigger when needed.

Commander Malcolm Reed were walking to his first class of the term deeply in though. His head up, his keen eyes scanned the school fields for any problem. As soon as he turned to the direction of the main building, he spotted a little group of 4 cadets. One female and 3 males.

It wasn't good. It was never good. He turned to their direction, and quickened his steps. Silent walk was his habit from navy and was a very useful talents in this field. The male cadets were unaware of his present. As he got closer he quickly analysed the situation.

The 3 guys were insulting the women. She was not human. Or at least not fully. Not even vulcan. Something else. But it didn't matter to him.

„What is going on here?!" he calmly demanded.

Arms at his side ready to strike if needed. He hoped his rank would be enough to prevent further actions, but if not, well just be prepared.

„UH. Am. Nothing Sir! We just expressed our welcoming words to our new classmate Sir!" Cadet Thomas Fakes replied.

It was clear he was unprepared for disturbance. This could be an advantage.

„Its Commander for you! I'm happy that you are showing friendly behaviour toward your new comrade. Dismissed! All of you guys!" he stated.

He made a side glance to the woman in the corner. She was purposefully staring to the ground. If she realized his arrival, she didn't show any signs of it. She looked unharmed, maybe a slight shaking of her body could be realized if closely looked.

The three cades looked up with fear in their eyes. They started to walk away briskly, only Thomas looked back one time with hateful eyes. He turned to the Cadet in front of him. She still didn't look up so he started to get worried.

„Cadet, are you alrigth?" he asked quietly.

No response. One step closer.

„Cadet!" little louder this time.

Seemed she collected herself.

„Yes Commander! Thank you. We only had a little misunderstanding. No harm done." she said.

Still didn't look at him. However, her voice was clear and strong.

„Your name Cadet?"

„Serena Snape Sir!" he watched her every move. Tried to analyse her behaviour. Her body posture, her voice, her moves. When he saw her hand rise to salute he stopped her. He just felt this unnecessary even he knew she was only following the rules.

„At ease Cadet!"

„Thx Sir!"

„Please take an advise. Look your superiors in the eyes. It can be useful..." he said calmly.

She slowly stared to rise her head and looked him directly in the eyes. He was taken back by the beauty of them. Clear deep blue eyes watched him calmly. They looked like the deepest parts of the sea. Her eyes fitted her rounded face and friendly smile.

„…And secondly please avoid those troublemakers. This kind of cadets are not suitable for space travel. They will never finish this school and they know it. They are just envy and bullying everybody who has the potential. Please don't make bad conclusion about us, I can assure you the biggest part of humanity is an accepting community. It's true we are still learning to live together with other species. By the way Commander Malcom Reed."

He saw her move as she started to collect her books which were all around the floor. She probably dropped them. A thought came into his mind „How did I miss the dropped books… its unusual for him to miss details."

„Thank you, Commander. I will take them to my heart. I don't know them…" one more book.

„… but I am sure I will avoid them as much as I can." she added.

„At least she will be safe."

Last book – he thought. He got a feeling. He desperately wanted to help even a little help would be a help. Malcolm was faster and picked up the last one. He read the title: Basic and Advanced Tactical and Weaponry encyclopaedia. One of his students then. He felt a wave of happiness that he can accompany her to the lecture hall.

„At least I can make sure she will get in there without further disturbance. And safety." he thought about the sudden happiness. And told himself it was just a basic worry for one of his new students. He would feel that with everybody.

„Right? … „

„Looks like we are heading to the same direction. Would you mind accompanying me?" he asked.

„Not at all Sir. At least I could be sure that I won't get lost." she smiled. As she reached for her book he felt their fingers lightly touched. It was fully unintentional on both sides, but he felt his body stiffen.

„Well yeah. This way Cadet." he withdrawed and turned to the main building. He opened and closed his fist a few times before he relaxed. He could not decide if he was missing the contact or would never want to feel it again. It was strange.

He didn't see her, only heard as she followed him from a respective distance. Maybe this year won't be as plain as he thought.
