Chapter 1: Intro
It was night time. The stars have come out and shine brightly into the dark night sky. Everyone in the village has already gotten to bed. The sound of water moving slowly in the river brings peace throughout the houses that are near it. And there laid a girl in a small house near the river bank. She's currently having a dream….a dream of her past life, a dream of truth…..that still haunts her.
In her dream:
"Die, die you filthy Moron! What good do you have now? Said her sister who betrayed her as well.
You should've never fallen in love with me." Said the man she once loved dearly.
No! Imperial sister! Don't hurt her! Leave her alone!" Said her younger brother who was still too young to defend her.
Amari eyebrows wriggled and twitched. Her eyeballs moved constantly underneath her lids. Sweats started to form and trickled down her forehead. Her hands trembled and clutched tightly on the old torned rag.
She turned and tossed and then her eyes snapped open, her body was covered in cold sweat, shaking, heart pounding, looking around the pitch dark room, making sure she was still in the same place. Realizing that it's the same place, she closed her eyes and started breathing slowly to calm herself down. And wiped away her sweats.
She flipped the blanket away from her and shifted her legs to the edge of the bed frame, in a sitting position. She pondered why she dreamed about that again. Each time when she dreams about it brings a tremendous amount of pain and sadness to her. Remembering the arrow piercing through her chest, the immense pain she felt that day she still remembered like it was just yesterday. Leaving her younger brother all alone back home and always thinking how he's doing and if he's living a good life.
She took the wooden hairpin next to her and swirled her hair into a bun and placed the hairpin right through the bun, securing it. The dream stopped her from falling back asleep. She stepped off of the bed and lit up a lantern, poured some water into a bowl and drank it. She drank it quickly and wiped off the excess water on her lips. And stepped out of the house with the lantern in her hands.
She walked around the river bank and looked at the river. Seeing how the water moved smoothly and soundly, she looked at the sky and saw many stars, and the moon shining brightly lit up the landscape a a walk in the middle of night usually calms her mind, especially after that dream. She knows she shouldn't be wandering around this time. But every time she has those dreams, this is how she relaxes and clear her mind.
She started making her way into the forest, walking slowly and normally, anyone who walks at this time of the night will surely be scared and not have the gut to step outside. But for Akari she was different. Before she came to be where she is now. She was trained to fight and survive by herself for her safety. She was trained to use her sense and her hearing for any incoming enemies.
She has only been in this body for a good month only. And she already recognized the location.
The dream from earlier still made her head a little hazy. She stopped her tracks and raised her head to look at the bright moon again. By the rim of her eyes it moistened as she kept looking at the moon, remembering all the past memories. The memories she has with her ex fiancé, they both will watch moonlight together under the tree, and they will smile and laugh at each other.
She was immersed in her memories to the point that she didn't notice the footsteps that were gradually approaching her
"From which palace." A husky, strong voice said.
She was taken aback. She quickly collects her thoughts and stares at the approaching figure. When she saw the man before her clearly, she was startled.
The man wore his long hair loose, embellishing himself with black robes that had snake designs woven into them. His long and narrow golden piercing phoenix eyes were as deep as bottomless wells. There was a scent of wine on him. With his robes slightly opened, it faintly revealed his taut skin.
Judging from his apparel he is probably a wealthy and respectful person. He also has the appearance of an indulgent son of aristocratic parents. Who is he?
"Are you mute? Why are you not speaking? He smirk and was about to pinch her chin
Amari immediately stepped back and glared back at him coldly.
"You have an unexpectedly stubborn temper. This duke likes it." He walked closer to her. The scent of wine emanating from his whole body mixed with the night breeze and wafted into her nose.
This duke? It looks like he's some ignorant and incompetent duke in this area.
Amari turned around and only took two steps when all of sudden, she didn't know when the man before her had forced her to the tree trunk. Just as he lowered his head and wanted to kiss her, she immediately woke up with a start.
She placed her hands on his chest and exerted her strength, her pair of eyes still filled with coldness.
"Do you believe that this duke will want you here today?" His tone was bantering.
"I don't want you." she snapped
"In this world, there's nothing I can't obtain if I want it." Moreover, it's just a woman.
Amari quickly glanced down to the weakest place on a man's body. He's drunk...if I just...and then quickly run he wouldn't recognize me…...
With such thought she immediately raised her head. The coldness in her eyes was no longer there, it was replaced by a charming and cute expression.
When he saw her tender expressions, the man's eyes narrowed.
Amari caught hold of the opportunity to lift her right leg and kick towards that place of his. After that, she instantly turned away to flee.
She hadn't gotten far before her collar was pulled by someone from behind.
"You want to leave after kicking this duke at that place?" He exerted the strength in his arms and flung her onto the ground heavily.
"Ugh!?"
She felt pain on her neck, the gripping tightened as the man spoke. The man was on top of her and one of his hands is on her neck.
"Who are you." The voice was deep, and strong. The three words that came out of his mouth sounds like a death sentence. The voice that you can't feel any emotions in them. Such a merciless person.
"Ugh..mmm" Amari's hands also gripped the man's hands, trying to free herself. But her struggles didn't do any good.
"I said who are you." Still holding her on the ground.
Having just been flung to the ground, Amari was still struggling to get her bearings, much less be able to endure the weight of the man seemingly about to press down on her. She raised her head and pursed her lips, her eyes full of icy coldness.
Instead of pressing down on her body, the man instead propped himself up on the ground with one hand and used the other to lift her chin. "With a temper like yours, it's a miracle that you can survive in this palace." He said.
Amari jerked her head free before glaring at him again, her tightly clenched fists digging into the soil. Even if this person has drunk, his vigilance is still high. How can I escape?
"Tsk…." Amari used her strength and slowly quickly reached over her head, and grabbed hold of her hairpin and aimed at the man's shoulder.
"Ughh…!?" the man grunted.
"Woman! You don't want your life? Even if this duke is drunk, don't even dream of escaping!" The corners of the man's mouth raised and his eyes were slightly narrowed. Under the moonlight, he appeared devilish and terrifying.
The night breeze rustled. The tree leaves and caused his untied robes to fly upwards, revealing his taut and strong skin. There was no excess fat at his waist and stomach. Set off by the bright moonlight, he was beautiful until it caused people to stop breathing.
His burning hot breath was close enough for her to feel it on her neck. Immediately after that, warm and moist lips that carried a strong wine scent landed on her lips. As it moved back and forth against her.
Just as the man lowered his head again to kiss her, she suddenly opened her mouth and bit the man's lips ferociously. Fresh blood seeped out and dyed their lips.
He furrowed his brow and his eyes were deep.
She seized the opportunity again and aimed a ruthless kick at the same place. And did a chop at the back of his neck. The acupuncture points and vertebra were linked, so as long as she was precise and utilised sufficient force, he was bound to pass out.
With that, she had exhausted all her strength in the strike.
The man stares at her "You...you must not want to live anymore." His voice becomes soft and quiet, he slumps onto her, his head falling into the crook of her neck unconscious.
I almost thought it didn't work on him….this man…
The reason I had met that man was that the area I have been strolling just now is beyond the boundaries of the palace I am in.
She signed a breath of relief. Pushed his head away and climbed out of his body. And gave him another look and stood up and left.
