Author's notes: This is gonna be a crack pairing fic/ooc/au so don't read if you don't like that.

It was a typical morning in the maverick hunter's headquarters. Everybody was busy doing their part, making sure society doesn't collapse from Reploids who want to destroy it and even helping human scientists solve the issue where the Earth's resources were being drained and finding a solution. Hunters in the fields, operators giving them support in the back, and challenging the rebellions with equal force. All in all, things were pretty normal. Now we find our SA-class swordsman, Zero, patrolling through the hallways during his daily duties and making sure there's no enemy that's gonna do a sneak attack on them. Today's mavericks were minor so lower-class hunters were dealing with them instead. He was going to continue on, when he pass by X's room and noticed the Blue Bomber making strange poses in front of his mirror, helmet off revealing his brown hair, and uttering some words,
"Hey there, you are looking pretty today. No, uh you're very fly this fine morning. Fly? Really? Um, it's a beautiful day, and you are too. Yeah, that could work…"
Normally Zero wouldn't care if this was a random Reploid, but it was X, his friend and brother-in-arms, and secrets between them were minimal. He would tell him anything, no problem. With that in mind, he went up and tapped his shoulder,
"What are you doing?" X jumped a little and looked to him,
"Oh, Zero, didn't notice you come in. Uh, nothing much, just trying to look professional for today." At this, he looked at him in confusion,
"But you normally look good. Hell, we don't even change our standard body armor a lot." X chuckled,
"Yeah, your right, but just for today, I'm trying to look good."
"What for?"
"No reason, I just want to."
Something in Zero's mind was telling that X was lying, and given what he was doing a few moments ago, he decided to get the info out of him,
"There's always a reason X, just tell me."
"I told you, I just want to look professional." He started to comb his hair, which wasn't working as the strands kept going back to where they were. He silently cursed at them,
"Why aren't you co-operating with me?" He now used his hands for the tidiness. Zero pressed on,
"X, there's no need to lie, we're friends, you can tell me anything and I'll help with the problem."
"There is no problem."
"X-" He turned to him and put his hands on Zero's shoulder's,
"Look, I assure you, there isn't anything that's bothering me today, if there was, you will be the first to know, I promise." He looked at the time at his wall and headed to his door,
"Now if you'll excuse me, I need to head downtown for some supplies for my station. I'll be back later." Zero followed him out,
"You have permission?" X shook his head,
"Actually I asked Signas if I can have a day off just for today. He said yes because I deserved it for what I've done, and only if I agreed to fill out the extra paperwork I need to do when I get back."
"Do you need me to come with?" He looked back,
"Oh no, it's very little stuff. It won't take long, I'll probably be back in like, two or three pm. You'll manage without me. See ya later." With that, X walked off. Zero just couldn't get his mind off of what X is supposedly up to. And because he would be gone in hours for "very little stuff.", it just raised suspicion. He hated to do it, but right now, he doesn't trust X with his words, and though he wasn't the stealthiest, he needed to tail him. He started to head to Signas office to try and ask for a break out of base. Meanwhile X is listing things off in his head,
'First, compliment her. Then, take her out for a short walk. Next, head to a nearby restaurant and pay for the meal. Fourth, try not to be awkward this ti- Arrg! Okay okay, practice what you were doing. Be cool, act cool, like Zero and your good.' He looked around the main lobby and walked out.
Zero popped his head out of the side of a alleyway where he spotted X leaning on a wall next to a department store, arms crossed, head looking side to side, and is in casual clothing. Zero shook his in disappointment, knowing X lied to him about getting supplies, and that something WAS bothering him, and he didn't tell him what it was. Another head peeped out of the entrance,
"So, what are we looking at? A surprise attack from a maverick? That why we weren't briefed by Alia? Is it a strong one? Tell me!"
"Shhhhh!" He put his hand on Axl's mouth and looked to see if X heard, and he didn't. His mouth was freed and Zero pointed to X, and Axl's eyes followed. His faced frowned,
"Really? You pulled me out of the action just to look at X in jeans and a jacket? What a letdown. You know I don't have a lot of interest of what you guys personally do right?"
"Look, all I know is that he is planning for something, and that he isn't telling us. And in case I needed you to disguise yourself to get close to what he might be doing. So it's has to be something important."
"Like?"
"Like a new secret weapon only he knows about I don't know." Axl looked to X and saw him breathing into his hand and putting up to his nose, then flinched back,
"Damn it, I forgot to put on the good smell. Stupid, stupid…"
"…or he could be going out on a date." Zero faced him,
"Huh?"
"It's obvious he's going on a date with somebody. Why do you think he's looking very human today, plus he's trying his best to look good." Zero remembered that X was doing his hair without much success and now his suspicion was correct. At that moment, he chuckled,
"Him? Going on a date? Since when does the one and only Megaman X have time to get into a relationship?"
"Said the one who used to date a girl who went maverick." Zero glared at him,
"Don't ever joke like that." Axl moved back with hands up,
"Sorry sorry, just slipped out." Zero cooled down and looked back to X, who was walking back and forth, and seemed to be having a small panic attack. He really had to wonder,
'But still, of all people, who would go out with him? He's always been awkward with women. Past experience has shown me that. It's not that he isn't a nice guy, far from it, but he says the wrong things at times and the result is either a slap to the face or gets called a creep. So who would?'
"X!"
They looked to side and saw a light-blue haired girl with a side ponytail wearing a white shirt with a black vest, blue skirt, white knee socks, and pink shoes, purse in hand. She waved as she gave a short jog, along the way Zero and Axl went in to prevent being seen, and X just waved too as he went over the self made plan in his head,
'Remember, be cool, and be like Zero. You got this X, you got this! Let's do it!' She stopped in front of him and looked up at him with that smile he loved,
"How are you today?"
"F-fine, I'm just, fine, how are you lately Rico?" He mentally slapped himself, 'Stop stuttering!'. She put her hand on her chin,
"Well I've been busy studying how to preserve what resources we have with the other tech support and scientists around the world while also maintaining my teaching career over at the university to students who wants to know about the maverick hunters amongst other subjects. That's all they ever want to talk about during sessions and I don't see why, but I let it slide if it gets their work done. Overall, not much has changed since we last went out. What about you? Still keeping our world safe Mr. Blue Bomber?" He likes it when she acts so casual during these things and here he is, struggling to stand straight. He looked to the side and posed,
"Heh, you can say that, I've been too busy making mavericks regret the day they ever decided to go against the humans in a hard way. No biggy." He smirked and wiped his nose with his index finger. She clasped her hands together,
"Your as cool ever X!"
'Damn it, lying about killing mavericks acting like this…but if it makes me look good, so be it.' He looked back at Rico and initiated his plan,
"Y-you know, you do look pretty today. I love your outfit." She smiled and twirled a little,
"Thank you, I recently bought this, just for this occasion. I felt like I was wasting money though, cause I don't wear human clothes a lot. But for today, I'll make due." He nodded,
"I have a few plans for the day. Wanna go now?"
"Yep! Let's go." At that, she grabbed his hand and walked to his right, and are now walking side by side. Zero and Axl just watched the whole thing quietly, and looked at each other,
"Wait til the others hear about this." Axl grinned. Zero shook his head.
"No, first, we tail him, then we decide what to do." The two walked out and began the chase.
"…and so there I was, buster secretly charged, low on power, armor badly damaged, and the maverick was about to finish me off with his strongest attack. He gave a speech, saying I was not the future savior for reploid kind, and laughed. As soon as he lets his attack out, I jumped over it and blast his head clean off! Boom! Body exploded after and no traces of him were left." He exclaimed while Rico looked up at him in amazement,
"Your too good to be put down. That maverick never had a chance!"
"Yep, just business as usual." He was about to continue when she pulled him,
"There's a café! Let's go in."
"H-hey! I'm coming, just hold on!" 'Plan's going by so fast!'
The two of them found a booth close to the window for two people and set in their orders. They don't technically need to eat and drink, but human food can be delicious and can't be resisted.
"So what other hobbies do you have?" He looked up,
"Hobbies?"
"Yeah, you never did talk about it last time. Do you?"
"Well uh, I, used to study the basic robotics of early reploids back when Dr. Cain first created them."
"Used to? You don't anymore?"
"Nah, I'm more of a fighter than a scientist really. I'm smart, but not that smart. I never did get a lot of that techno jargin with him or the navigators at times. No offense." She giggled,
"Don't worry, I know sometimes I can be a real nerd and babbling on when it gets too much, so I know how you people are."
"Hey! What do you mean you people?" The two laughed. X then looked down,
"But in all seriousness, I AM trying to find a way for humans and Reploids to live peacefully together. I said I'm a fighter, but I do it to find that answer. And I won't stop. Never have and never will." He clenched his right fist.
"Well, if it makes you feel better, I hope you do find it."
"Thank you…" Their food had just came and before X could get a bite from his, he saw a spoon full coming from Rico,
"Say, aaaa!" He pulled his head back,
"C-come on, that's embarrassing!"
"It's normal, we're dating aren't we? Now open up wide, and say, aaaa!" If he could blush, he would be extremely red right now. He looked around,
'I hope nobody's paying attention…' X looked back at the spoon, sighing, he went forward,
"…aaaa." monch X could feel his circuits overheating, chewing the food slowly and putting his head down. Rico giggled at his reaction, and a certain two were sitting far from them, goofy disguises on, looking from their own menus,
"They are acting all lovey-dovey like those animes the humans watch. It's, sorta creepy actually." Axl cringed a little. Zero was just focused and not saying anything, thinking that the girl could be a maverick spy and trying to get intel from X and right when he let's his guard down, she'd kill him. So far, that's not the case, but he still needed to be alert. Minutes went by, then he turned to Axl,
"You watch anime?"
"Uh, no?"
"…"
"…the action ones okay?!"
X and Rico walked in the park for a good while, enjoying the silence, then found a bench to sit on. They watched a couple of human kids playing on a playground and even some using trees and bushes as hiding spots. She turned to him,
"I'm having a great time." He looked to her now,
"Me too."
"Your much more confident than last time. You weren't this snarky when you talked about your battles before." X scratched his cheek,
"I guess I'm still getting used to this "dating" thing that I had to grow confidence. We did go out a few times, so there's that."
"You mean your not used to having a girlfriend by now? Didn't you have one before when you told me?" His smiled went down a bit,
"Yeah but, I messed it up big time and she just, left without saying anything else to me. But I like you now, so it's okay." She smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder and X put his arm around her.
"…you know, when we first met, you were this guy who was, kinda weird to talk to. Back when I gave the students a tour around your headquarters when it wasn't busy and given the okay by your superiors and introduced them to their elite unit, you included. You weren't used to big crowds, especially when they're your fans, so I had to excused them and pull you to the side, apologizing afterwards. We talked while the others were preoccupied, a lot. After that, fate did something, and now here we are…" Rico finished. He looked to the front of him, spacing out with thought,
"It really did didn't it?" They enjoyed the moment they had until she pulled a grin, and put her head up to him,
"Hey."
"Yeah?"
"Let's kiss." X went wide-eyed,
"W-what? Right now?!"
"Yeah! We never did, so let's experience what its like, like the humans!"
"B-but don't you think it's too soon?"
"X, we've been going out for at least a few months now, plus we're already used to each other's company. I think we're ready. It will be exciting!" He looked like he was about to explode. A full minute later, he calmed down,
"Alright, let's do it…" She smiled, sat straight up, and leaned in with her eyes close. Waiting for him to make his move, he shakily closed his, and moved in himself. Their lips were inches apart when X heard a noise in a bush behind the bench. He looked at the bush, activated his scanner, and what he saw shocked him, then he frowned. Rico opened her eyes to see X glaring,
"Is, something wrong?"
"No, nothing, hold on." He leaned over the back support, grabbed inside and pulled Zero and Axl by their hair, both screaming "Ow!" in the process. The two looked at him,
"Uh, hi X! Nice day isn't it?" Axl said, who was getting nervous. X was not so amused,
"Mind telling me what you two are doing?"
"…playing hide and seek, with the kids?" X was now giving a murderous aura, until he was stopped by Rico touching his back,
"I think they are just looking out for you X, don't let it bother you." X gave one more look at them and released them,
"Get back to base and stay there. Now." He gently pulled Rico to her feet and led them away from the two. He turned his head over his shoulder and mouthed some words to them. Zero and Axl stepped out, brushed themselves of the mess on them, and looked in their direction they left.
"…well I'm heading back and telling the others about this. You coming?" Axl turned the other way while Zero remained where he is,
"You go, I'll stay on his trail."
"Dude, we already know that girl isn't dangerous, and that X completely puts absolute trust in her. Let them be."
"I just wanna see something, just go."
"Alright, but don't blame me when he finds you out. Bye." Axl walked away, leaving Zero to go after the two lovebirds.
They stopped in front of Rico's home building and faced him,
"Thanks for today. I needed to get off work for a bit."
"No problem, shame we couldn't spend more time together though. I was having fun."
"Yeah, but maybe next time, we'll have more time. I can arrange it, cut more of my hours."
"Oh no, I wouldn't want to distract you of your jobs. They're too important to ignore." He looked away and pretended to cough into his balled fist,
"And, maybe the next time we hang out, we can continue were we ahem, left off."
"But why wait?"
"Hmm?"
His head was pulled to her and she intertwined their lips together. Her hands were surrounding his neck and while shocked at first, he put his on her waist, pulling each other closer. Whatever worries they had, it was gone off their minds and just relish these past few minutes of nothing but bliss. They released and slowly let go of each other and she turned to her building and headed inside, not before facing him and winked. He smiled and touched his lips,
'Maybe being in this relationship is not so bad than I originally thought months ago…just hope I don't mess up this time.'
"Nice job X!" He quickly turned at the sound of a familiar voice and there was Zero, cheering him on.
"How long were you here?!"
"Long enough to witness your finest moment! I'm proud of you bro!"
"Grrrr, Zeroooo!"
The chase scene lasted all the way to maverick hunters headquarters.
