Still Falling for you

The 1st time – The little things

Ally, Austin, Trish and Dez were having a movie night at Ally's house. Her father was away overnight on a business trip, so Ally had asked her friends if they wanted to turn it into a sleepover. All four of them were already dressed in their pajamas and had made themselves comfortable in the Dawson's living room.

"Ally, this was a great idea!" Trish declared from her place on the couch. She was wearing a leopard print pajama with pink fuzzy slippers. Her hair was held back by a matching pink glittery hairband.

"Trish, you look positively adorable!" Dez exclaimed as he entered the room dressed in a multicolored flannel pajama and Zalien-slippers.

"Say that again and I'll throw you out that freaking window you … what are you doing?" Trish asked while Dez walked towards the window.

"Checking how high the drop is, see if it's worth it."

"And?" Ally asked worried.

"Eh …" Dez waved it off and moved to the armchair. Relieved by this reaction, Ally made her way to the second couch. The girl pulled off the oversized sweater she had put on earlier to reveal a grey Snoopy shirt with the word 'cutie pie' written on it, matching the purple-pink-plaid pajama bottoms she was wearing. "I stand corrected. Ally's won the award for Most Adorable Nightwear tonight. Congratulations, cutie pie."

"Hey, I'm cute and I know it." Ally winked at Dez and both he and Trish burst out laughing.

"What's with all the laughing? What did I miss?" Austin asked coming into the room. He was wearing dark blue pajama bottoms and a simple grey shirt.

"Just tonight's award ceremony. And I hate to burst you bubble, but you would have been no competition whatsoever." Dez looked at Austin's pajama critically.

"Hey, nobody told me!" Austin protested. "What was the award even for?"

"Most Adorable Nightwear tonight," Dez and Trish chorused.

"Well okay. I guess you have a point there." Austin looked himself up and down. "So, who won?"

"Our little cutie pie over there," Trish explained pointing at Ally.

Austin took a closer look at Ally for the first time since entering the room. "I can see that" was all he said before coming to sit beside her since Trish was taking up all of her couch.

"Can we start the movie now?" Dez asked excitedly. He really wanted to see the newest Zalien movie.

"I'm just gonna grab a few snacks from the kitchen. You can set everything up, if you want." Dez didn't have to be told twice and was already making his way towards the TV.

"I'll help you," Austin offered and followed Ally into the kitchen.

"You're doing a great job," Trish praised. "I'll be here supervising."

Ally and Austin both rolled their eyes at their friend and chuckled while inspecting the kitchen. They found chips, pretzels, cookies and ice-cream. Austin was very satisfied with their findings, but Ally was still missing one particular thing. The girl went over to the cupboard where she remembered the jar of pickles being kept on the highest shelf. She stood on her tiptoes but was still too small to reach.

"Do you need me to get it for you?"

"How dare you insult the vertically challenged!" Ally gasped still struggling to reach the jar on her own.

"Okay then." Austin laughed and just stood there watching his friend.

Suddenly Ally got an idea in her head. She pulled over a little box and climbed on it. With a victorious grin in Austin's direction she reached her arm out only to find that she still couldn't reach it and her hand missed the shelf completely making her stumble on. Ally felt herself losing her balance completely from the unexpected movement. She braced herself for the impact as she felt herself falling, but it didn't come. Instead, she suddenly found herself in a warm embrace.

Ally looked up only to find Austin looking at her with a worried expression. "You okay?" he asked.

"I'm fine." Austin let her go. She looked at him and sighed defeatedly. "Maybe I do need help."

"You don't say." Austin chuckled and reached for the jar of pickles. Of course, he got them down effortlessly.

"Thanks," Ally muttered and the two friends headed back into the living room.

"Dez, you were supposed to have the movie completely ready before Austin and Ally got here with the snacks!" Trish scolded.

"Hey, I turned on the TV, didn't I," Dez pointed out while continuing to study the DVD case he had in his hand. "You gotta appreciate the little things!"

Austin gave Ally a hug and the girl looked at him quizzically. "What? You heard the man. I'm just appreciating the little things."

"Seriously? I'm not that short!" Ally glared at him.

"Do I need to remind you of what just happened in the kitchen?" Austin asked with a smirk on his face.

"Never mind," Ally muttered. She started placing the snacks on the table and went back to her former seat on the couch. Austin followed quickly and Dez, having finally started the movie, went back to his armchair as well.

"Finally!" Trish exclaimed and the other three laughed at her. This sleepover really had been a great idea.

The 2nd time – I got you

Austin was standing at the register in Sonic Boom, the music store belonging to Ally's father. Ally had to run a few errands, so Austin had offered to watch the store until she got back. Right now, there wasn't a customer there and Austin was bored. He was watching the door intently, waiting for his best friend to return.

Finally, Austin saw the girl approaching the store. While walking, she was furiously scribbling something in her songbook. He chuckled at the sight, apparently Ally had gotten inspired on her way and it must've been good. She was so focused that she wasn't paying any attention to where she was going. Luckily, the mall – just like the music store – was pretty much deserted. Except for – him.

Austin saw the kid on rollerblades heading for Ally a second too late. The boy was looking at something in a shop window he was driving by, so neither he nor Ally realized what was happening.

"Ally! Watch out!" Austin called. Her head shot up and she looked at him. But the boy's warning came too late and the guy on rollerblades crashed into his best friend. "No!" Austin yelled and raced out of the store towards the two of them.

Ally and the other guy were in a tangled mess on the floor but were already starting to untangle themselves. By the time Austin reached them, they were both standing again.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't look where I was going," Ally apologized earnestly.

"No, it's my fault," the guy said. "I was so focused on the guitar displayed in the shop over there, I didn't see you."

"Ally, you okay?" Austin asked looking his best friend over to make sure she wasn't injured.

"I think I'm okay, thanks Austin." Ally gave him a small smile before focusing on the other guy again. "Really? You interested in music?"

"Yeah," he said. "I really am. You, too?"

"I actually work in Sonic Boom," she explained gesturing to the music store.

"No way!" The guy exclaimed. "I'm Ethan, by the way."

"Nice to meet you, Ethan – even under such circumstances." Ally chuckled. "I'm Ally."

"And I'm Austin," Austin quickly introduced himself and received an irritated look from his best friend. He didn't know why exactly, but he did not like this Ethan-guy one bit and was getting a little pissed that Ally was so nice to him. He had run her over for God's sake.

"Hi," Ethan said and looked from Austin to Ally and back to Austin again. "Anyway, it was nice meeting both of you. Maybe I'll come by your store someday, Ally. And sorry again for running you over." The guy laughed nervously.

"I'd like that." Ally smiled warmly at him. "And like I said, it was just as much my fault." Ethan waved at them and skated out of the picture.

If it were up to Austin, it could very well stay that way. "Jerk," he muttered.

But Ally heard and she glared at her best friend. "What's wrong with you?" she asked.

"What's wrong with me?" Austin looked at her with wide eyes. "What's wrong with you? That Ethan-guy just ran you over and you were being all buddy-buddy with him."

"Austin!" Ally exclaimed exasperatedly. "It was an accident. My fault just as much as his. So, please calm down. Besides, he was kind of cute, don't you …" Ally broke off and closed her eyes for a moment in pain and touched the back of her head.

"You're ok, right? Are you hurt?!" Austin asked the girl worriedly, pushing his jealousy aside for a moment. He would talk to her about the definition of 'cute' later. Wait, was he jealous? No, of course not. Anyway, later!

"No, no, no! I'm fine! Totally fine! No, no, I'm fine," Ally assured. However, she was still holding her head and couldn't quite meet Austin's eyes.

"Really? Because you're repeating your words, you look pale and you look like you're about to topple over?"

"Yeah, you might wanna catch me," Ally muttered before fainting and falling into Austin's arms. Thankfully, their friends Trish and Dez came by just then.

"What happened?" Trish yelled and raced over once she saw her best friend on the ground.

"There was a little accident – Ally and some skater crashed into each other. She was fine at first, but apparently, she must've hit her head harder than we thought at first. She got dizzy and fainted," Austin rambled.

"Okay," Trish said. "I'm gonna call an ambulance, she could have a concussion. I think it's better if a doctor takes a look at her. Dez, can you call her dad and let him know what happened and afterwards close the store. Austin, you stay with her. Everything is going to be okay." Austin was to glad that Trish managed to keep her cool.

"It's gonna be okay, Ally." Austin cradled his best friends head in his lap while Trish and Dez rushed off. "I got you."

The 3rd time – The Damsel and the Knight

Ally really did have a concussion. She had to rest for a few days and now was as good as new again. Her father had finally allowed her to come back to work, but only on the condition that one of her friends would be there at all times and keep and eye on her. Right now, it was Austin's turn.

"Now, you go sit down here to take care of the register and I'll look around to see if anybody needs help," Austin said, pushing his friend down on a chair.

"Austin, I'm fine. I'm not invalid," Ally said exasperatedly and stood up. "And I'm not some kind of damsel in distress. I can handle it; I don't need a knight in shining armour. Yes, I hit my head and passed out for a moment, but I'm fine now."

"I'm pretty sure the princess/damsel-in-distress-term is fainted," Austin pointed out. "Now, please sit down. I don't want you to hurt yourself."

"Fine," Ally relented and set down again. She knew she wouldn't get out of it.

"Thank you." Austin gave her a hug and they both got to work.

An hour later, the store was empty and the two friends were bored. "We could go up to the practice room," Ally suggested. "Work on some new songs."

"Good idea," Austin held his hand out to her to help her up the steps.

"You're kidding me, right?" Ally glared at her best friend. "I am perfectly capable to walk up the stairs by herself."

To prove her point, Ally jumped up from her chair and quickly walked towards the staircase. Austin followed. Ally started going up the stairs, taking two at a time just to annoy her friend. She shot him a victorious grin; unfortunately, that made her miss the next step. Ally stumbled backwards and fell … right into Austin's arms. He caught her easily and held her in his arms bridal style. For a moment, they just stared into each other's eyes.

"What just happened?" Ally asked.

"I think you just … fell for me," Austin answered smirking.

Ally glared at him. "Funny," she deadpanned. "Put me down now, please."

"No can do, princess. Just call me your knight in shining armour." And with that, Austin – ignoring all of her grumbling – carried Ally up to the practice room.

The 4th time – Truth or dare

"So, Trish, what will it be? Truth or dare?" Austin asked while both Ally and Dez were looking at their friend expectantly. The were sitting in the practice room in Sonic Boom waiting for the rain to stop so they could go home. The rain however didn't seem to care, so this little game night might just as well be turning into a slumber party soon. Trish had made herself comfortable in a beanbag chair, Ally and Dez were sitting on the couch and Austin was on the floor directly in front of Ally.

"Dare," Trish said firmly.

"Okay," Austin acted as though he had to think hard about it. "I dare you to call Jace and tell him you like him." Dez and Ally gasped before throwing their heads back in laughter.

"Are you kidding me?" Trish complained.

"It's the truth, isn't it?" Austin asked smugly.

"What has that got to do with anything?" Trish was really pissed now, but pulled out her phone and dialed, nonetheless. A dare was a dare. "I hate you," she told Austin.

"Just doing you a favor."

Not that Trish would ever admit it, but he really was. Because, after hearing Trish confess about her feelings, Jace told her he felt the same way. They were going out on their first date the following weekend.

"See," Austin told her. "I told you so."

"Yeah, yeah," Trish grumbled. "Your turn, Moon: truth or dare?"

"Truth," he said.

"Payback's a bitch," Trish muttered under her breath. "So Austin, tell me. Do you want to kiss Ally?"

Dez and Ally gasped and leaned forward on the couch to hear the answer. Austin was panicking inside, but kept it cool on the outside.

"Dare," he deadpanned.

"Austin, that's against …" Dez intervened.

"I'll let it slide." Trish smirked. "Fine, I dare you to kiss Ally"

Ally and Dez gasped and leaned forward once again. However, they both forgot that the couch had an end somewhere, so, they both fell off the couch. Trish burst out laughing as Dez hit the floor with a loud grunt. Ally landed right in Austin's lap and they both just stared at each other.

"Never have I ever …" Austin started.

"That's not the game!" Trish exclaimed and looked at the two friends expectantly.

They were, however, saved by Ally's dad coming into the room. "It finally stopped raining, kids! We can all head home now! You coming, Al- … what are you doing in Austin's lap?"

"Just me being clumsy again. Coming, Dad!" The girl jumped up and fled the room.

"What were you thinking, Trish?" Austin exclaimed.

"Just trying to do you a favor. But apparently, I was mistaken," Trish said sadly.

The final time – Falling for my best friend

"So, what you're saying is … Ally likes me?" Austin asked. He was hanging out with Trish and Dez at the mall. They were eating some ice-cream while they waited for Ally to finish work.

"Yeah, she does. Trust me, I know my friend. But I realized now that you don't feel the same way. Otherwise, you wouldn't have tried everything to get out of kissing her last night." Trish looked sad. "But it's gonna be okay. Your friendship can survive this little crush. You just need to let her down easy."

Austin looked uncomfortable. "How do I do that?"

"Be honest. Tell her how you feel," Dez suggested and Trish nodded.

"That won't work," Austin pointed out.

"Why not?" Trish asked looking at him confused.

"If I tell her how I feel she might get the impression that I want to get into a relationship," Austin explained

"Why would she think that?" Dez asked.

"Because I've … fallen in love with her."

"What?!" Trish and Dez exclaimed.

"Just a little bit." Austin held up his hands.

"But," Trish started. "If you're in love with her … why didn't you kiss her the other day?"

"Because I didn't want our first kiss to be because of a dare," Austin said blushing.

"Awwww," Dez and Trish chorused.

"That's so sweet," Trish gushed.

"I think I'm gonna cry," Dez said sniffling.

"Guys!" Austin exclaimed. "Be cool."

"Oh look, here she comes! Ally, over here!" Trish called. "You have to tell her, get over there!"

"What?" Austin asked, but Trish had already pushed him off of his chair. He glared at her and slowly made his way over to Ally.

"Hey, Alls." Austin smiled shyly at her.

"Hey, Austin." Ally grinned at him. "Is everything okay?"

"You … have a nice face," Austin blurted out. He could hear Trish groaning and Dez laughing.

"Yes. Yes I do," Ally joked.

"I mean … a nice face. You have a nice face," Austin stammered.

"Thanks … I think?" Ally said hesitantly.

"Oh God, I'm usually better at this. Please accept my awkward attempts of flirting or whatever I am doing here," Austin rambled.

"You're … flirting? With me?" Ally looked at him with wide eyes.

"Trying to." Austin nodded.

Ally looked at her best friend for a second, seemed to think for a moment and then took a determined step towards him. She grabbed him by the collar, pulled him down towards her and kissed him firmly on the lips. Trish and Dez' jaws dropped and they just stared at their two friends.

Ally was the one to pull back, smiled at Austin and then left him standing there – the usually confident and secure Austin reduced to a flustered mess – in the middle of the mall. She took her seat besides the speechless Trish and Dez. Grinning, she called back "Austin, you coming?"

Austin shook his head. "Yeah." He sat down at the table next to Ally. "Well, I guess you were not the only one falling for someone over the last few weeks."

"Glad to hear that," Ally said.

They smiled at each other and leaned in once more while Trish and Dez just sat there with matching grins on there faces.
