Prologue
Clay
August 18th, 1994
Clay sat on his couch watching tv while sipping a root beer when the letter appeared on his coffee table. He had a decent day of teaching sword class and helping the younger campers learn how to hold a spear the right way.
When the letter first appeared Clay just ignored it, because he just thought he could read it later. After five minutes Clay noticed the seal was a trident, the telltale sign of his father Poseidon. When you get a letter from your godly father, especially one as powerful as Poseidon, you better start reading before the hurricanes start to roll in. In other words, he quickly decided he should read it.
When he finished his root beer, he grabbed the letter and ripped it open. As he read the letter Clay's eyebrows raised, because he had put an address, which was confusing to say the least. It seemed to be in apartment building in Manhattan. Below it was written I want you to go to this address, because there is something important their I want you to see.
After reading the letter a few more times Clay groaned, stood up, and walked to the door. Along the way he grabbed the keys to one of his cars a heavily modified blue 1963 Corvette Z06 "Big Tank"
As he descended down the stairs to the garage, he wondered why his father sent him on this mission. His father had sent him on missions before but giving him so little information was out of character for him.
When he opened the door to the garage the lights illuminated to reveal a cavernous space about 600 feet long 100 feet wide and 30 feet tall. The space was filled with over fifty cars and other assorted toys. The car closest to the door was one of his many corvettes. This particular corvette was his daily driver.
As he got into his car Clay muttered "Let's see what this is about."
As he turned the key and the V8 roared to life Clay couldn't help but grin like an idiot. He revved the engine and peeled away toward garage door. As he approached the garage door the transponder inside the corvette opened it. As he appeared out from under the ground and onto his driveway. When he looked to his left, he could see the forest and Camp Half-Blood. When he looked behind him, he saw his house. Well he called it a house, but it actually was a 30,000 square foot ultra-modern mansion that he had built recently on one of the hills surrounding camp.
He turned onto the road towards Manhattan and his destination. As he drove, he found himself lost in thought. Recently Clay had lost many friends including his two closest friends. His anger suddenly bubbled up as he remembered the incident. He then reminded himself that it was over and there was nothing he could do about it.
As Clay crossed Queensboro Bridge he looked out over the New York skyline and was amazed at how much the city had changed since he was young. Then as drove between two skyscraper he realized that he had no idea where he was going, so he decided to just drive around looking for the right street sign. He Soon found it and after searching for a parking spot he parked on the side of the road and parked the car. He then started to walk down the street looking for the correct address. After about and hour of searching it was midnight and Clay finally admitted he was lost.
"Excuse me Ma"am," Clay asked a woman walking by, "do you know where this address is?"
"Yes, two blocks that way." She responded
"Thank you" Clay replied.
Five Minutes later
"Well here I am." Clay muttered as he started climbing the fire escape. He climbed, jumped, and shimmed around until he spotted something glowing next to a widow. As he approached the glowing thing, he suddenly realized it was a trident.
"This must be the right place." Clay muttered as he pried open the widow.
As soon as Clay entered the building, he felt the presence of a powerful being. He took in his surroundings and realized he was in a nursery. As he examined the room, he spotted a crib in the corner. It didn't take him long to deduce that the source of the powerful aura in the room was inside the crib. As he approached the source of the power he wondered if this was why his father would send him here. When he reached the side of the crib and looked down, he saw a little baby boy about a year old.
As he examined the boy, he could immediately tell that the boy and him were related. Clay could tell the boy would have the same chiseled jawline he had, the same shaped eyes, mouth, cheekbones, and he even had the same inky black hair. The only differences were that his nose and ears were slightly different. Suddenly the boy yawned and opened his eyes. The little boy's eyes were an amazing mix of greens and blues that seemed to swirl and mix creating a blueish-green color. As the Clay studied him the little boy broke out into a toothy grin and Clay couldn't help but return it with just as much enthusiasm.
Behind him a friendly voice spoke, "I see you have met your Little brother." When Clay turned around, he was greeted with the smiling face of his father Poseidon.
Poseidon looked almost identical to Clay in almost every way. They shared the same jawline, chin, cheekbones, eye shape, and hair. They had their differences though with their ears and nose being different. Poseidon also had a thick black stubble on his face and was a couple of inches taller standing at six foot five inches while Clay stood at six foot three inches. Poseidon's hair was also down to his shoulders while Clay's was a short and combed to the left. While Clay appeared Sixteen, Poseidon appeared to be in his mid-thirties."
"So, you broke the oath." Clay observed as he turned back to the little boy, who he noticed looked identical to Poseidon in every way, even the color of their eyes.
"Yes. but believe I did it with the right woman." Poseidon responded as he walked over to join him and looking at the new person the baby boy looked up and smiled at Poseidon, which the god quickly returned.
After a few seconds of silence Clay asked, "What is she like?"
"She is kind, smart, and beautiful." Poseidon replied.
Clay then asked, "What is his name?"
Poseidon quickly answered, "Perseus Alexander Jackson"
Clay nodded and replied, "It is a good name but why?"
"His mother Sally wanted him to have a happy ending." Poseidon responded
"So she knew." Clay asked.
"Yes." Poseidon said.
"I can tell he could be the most powerful demigod to ever live." Clay announced.
"Yep." Poseidon confirmed.
"Only the child of the Prophecy could be so powerful!" Clay exclaimed.
"That Is why I want you to protect him." Poseidon announced.
"Godly father say what now?" Clay asked.
"You heard me." Poseidon answered laconically.
"Just confirming." Clay said
After a few more seconds Clay asked one last question, "Why me."
Poseidon turned to look at his older son and asked, "Why not? You are quite possibly the most powerful demigod to ever live at this point and the best swordsman since Achilles not to mention you being a master of almost every other weapon out there. Plus, I can't exactly trust anyone else, Triton or Amphitrite would kill him in an instant and any other god or goddess would report him to my younger brother. You are also the most experienced demigod out there."
Clay nodded at all the points he made as all of it was true. Clay had been born on August 2, 1776 and had been given partial immortality at sixteen for his deeds during quests in his youth so that meant that he couldn't be the child of the prophecy. He also was the one best suited for the job.
"Alright I'll do it." Clay answered because had already become attached to the little guy.
"That was quick!" Poseidon exclaimed.
"He's my brother why wouldn't I?" Clay replied.
"Thank you, Clay!" Poseidon exclaimed
"No problem Dad!" Clay replied
"Alright I will see you again sooner or later I am going to be busy." Poseidon explained.
"Ok bye dad." Clay replied.
"Bye Clay." Poseidon responded as he disappeared.
Clay look back down at Percy who had a curious expression on his face and said, "Bye, Percy."
"Bye bye." replied Percy.
Clay grinned as he climbed out the window and spoke to himself, "Well this is going to be interesting."
