The Hero of Gallowmere
A Kingdom Hearts/MediEvil story
A note from the author:
Hi everyone. This fanfiction is going to be heavily based off the recent MediEvil that came out for the PS4 in October of last year. I wanted to do something with it so, a crossover with Kingdom Hearts seemed appropriate. Please note that locations, designs and story is more based off the PS1/PS4 version, while the script will take some influence some the PSP version, MediEvil Resurrection. So, for those dreading Al Zalam from Resurrection, he won't be in this story, and the gargoyles will keep their head-mounted designs from the original and PS4 remake. Also, expect some British swears in this (Zarok does say "bugger" after all) and a pinch of Monty Python.
So, without further delay, let the story begin! Welcome to Gallowmere.
Prologue:
In a time long ago, there lived in the kingdom of Gallowmere a sorcerer named Zarok. This arrogant, pitiless man hated his fellow citizens for their simple and peaceful ways, so he raised an army of demons and set out to take the realm for his own.
The King's champion, Sir Daniel Fortesque, led the militia in the battle against this unholy horde. Songs are still sung of how he spearheaded the charge deep into the accursed multitude, how demons fell before him, like wheat before the scythe, and how at last though mortally wounded, destroyed the sorcerer utterly.
Fortesque went down in history that day as the Hero of Gallowmere, and a time of peace began which was to last for a hundred years.
And then the sorcerer returned...
In a castle, high above the mountains, Zarok had been plotting his revenge against the kingdom of Gallowmere. He stood there, reading through spell books, looking for the perfect spell.
Behind him was a man in a dark cloak, a member of Organisation XIII. "This is the ideal spell," Zarok explained. "A spell to be spread all over Gallowmere, allowing me to take control of its citizens." He grabbed his trident, looking directly at them.
"Along with what we have provided you with, Gallowmere's inhabitants will be under your control, and the power to rule any kingdom, not just this one." Said the man in the cloak, Xigbar.
"Your Heartless may not be as strong as my Shadow Demons, but they'll suffice for the time being." Zarok replied, as he passed through the waterfall behind them. "Come, we have a kingdom to take over!"
Xigbar nodded, as he followed Zarok to the top of a hill, just outside a sleepy village. Green lightning struck behind them, as Zarok's trident hovered into the air, absorbing the energy and surrounding its master.
"Creatures of darkness, come forth. Make this pathetic kingdom pay for their insolence!" Zarok cried, as he grabbed his trident, sending out a wave of green energy that bathed the countryside.
"Now we head to the village," said Zarok, as he and Xigbar walked into the town, moonlight illuminating them as a deep fog enveloped the village. As Zarok walked, an evil smirk cast upon his face, his eyes glowed green, the same colour as the lightning.
He summoned the lightning once again, as it travelled through the many windows of the village. As the energy swept across the village, they all fell under Zarok's spell. Their eyes turned green, almost zombie-like, and they brandished weapons like axes and butcher knives. Even the children of the village now carried bloody axes in their hands. They were now zombie-like puppets under his control.
"Looks like everything is going according to plan, Zarok." Xigbar said. Zarok merely gave a devilish smirk, as a couple of dozen Shadow Heartless appeared behind Zarok, twitching their heads and hands as they awaited commands.
"The graveyard is our last stop," Zarok informed Xigbar.
And so they travelled, eventually reaching the gates that led into the graveyard. The name Fortesque shown off proudly above the gates, to which Zarok sneered as he blasted the gates open, possessing the trees as he did so.
Inside the graveyard, Zarok used his spell once more, causing many a cadaver to rise from their graves, becoming the last addition to Zarok's forces; an undead army.
"Nice work, Zarok." Xigbar said as zombie ambled past him, moaning incoherently. "Mind control AND an undead army. Can't kill what's already dead, right? You thought of everything!" He looked down at the Shadow Heartless from before, and proceeded to grab a zombie by its decomposing hand.
"C'mere you." He said as he grabbed a lone Shadow Heartless, and put them together, creating a new breed of Heartless; Undead. "That should keep any unwanted guests outta your hair, Zarok. Not only are they undead, but normally weapons can't even touch 'em."
This pleased Zarok, as he examined the Undead. "Interesting. I must say I'm impressed."
"Well Zarok, I gotta leave, important business you see."
"Very well, with your creatures, I can handle the takeover of Gallowmere from here." Zarok began walking in the direction of a stately building in the distance, leaving Xigbar to vanish in an egg shape of dark energy.
Who would save Gallowmere from its undead army now? Well, that's the thing about raising the dead. Zarok should've watched where he cast his spell...
