outside of Malick's castle
Year of our lord 1492
A massive army waits for their commander's orders to storm the castle.
"The troops are ready for your inspection commander frost" The crusader said while saluting.
Barry looked at maura and asked "Is this really necessary?",
"yes" Maura said while looking over charts, we have to get her out before Malick uses jane and her training to cause any more damage.
"How do we know that Jane isn't doing this of her own free will?, How do we know for sure?" barry asks.
Maura flew into a rage and said "we both know jane would never do any of this of her own free will, she is controlled by Malick".
'Are we safe here?" one of the more jittery soldiers asked.
"The crusaders have their own early warning system, they forged an alliance with more peaceful vampires, and since it was midday." maura said while never taking her eyes off the castle layout
"Sir barry something is wrong, something or someone is approaching, something that is beyond anything we have ever felt" angelica said in a voice filled with fear. Giving angelica is one of the most powerful vampires.
"What or who is it?" Maura and barry said in unison.
"Angelica speak! what has made you so silent?" maura asked, no maura demanded an answer. Angelica's eyes went wide as saucers after feeling what was coming closer. It's her, the demon that will destroy us all, no escape, no mercy, no hope.
"it's her, god please pray that I'm wrong, no you're not wrong it's her, it's jane but not jane" angelica said with terror in her voice.
"It's a monster that is approaching" maxwell confirmed as Maura and Barry looked and saw expressions of pure terror on their faces. These vampires have been in more combat than any other and to see 2 combat-hardened vampires with that look means something truly inhuman is coming.
One of the crusaders ran into the tent and said "a messenger from the castle is approaching"
barry keeping his fear under control and calmly asked the crusader to describe the messenger
"she's tall, lean, dark hair and very beautiful" the crusader responds.
"Sounds like jane" maura said with hope in her voice.
"that's impossible, the sun is out, how can it be jane?, we both know jane is a vampire or did u forget, we saw it with our own eyes. So how can she be out in the daytime?" He asked while looking at angelica and maxwell only to see the terror on their faces.
'If this is true, if it really is jane, what is she now?, A vampire that can walk in the sun or something worse?, The carnage and death toll in that last village, what if it was jane alone and not a horde of vampires like we thought" Maura asked barry, not really wanting him to answer but she knew she needed him to answer.
Maura's flashback
A messenger came running into the crusader headquarters
"the village of Saxon has been attacked"
"any survivors!?" Vince yells
"none, blood everywhere bodies torn apart" the messenger said.
"Was it Malick!?" Vince asked
"no sign of him but there was something left behind for maura," the messenger said while handing over a piece of paper. Vince noticed his nervousness but figured it was just because of the situation until he read the note
"Jane!?" Vince yelled again
"How do you know this is from jane?" Vince asked
"she left a message in blood addressed to maura". The messenger said while looking down at the floor
The message reads as follows:" hey beautiful I miss you terribly, I'm sorry I missed your birthday. Remember you will always have my heart and I left you a belated birthday present"
The messenger reached into his bag and pulled out a beautifully wrapped present and when maura opened it she saw a beautiful dagger with an inscription that read "my heart will always be yours"
Maura was bewildered because she knew the woman, she loved and was in love with, was Malick's puppet but would Malick allow Jane to do this? or did jane have free will?. So many questions plagued maura's mind as they were en route to the village to look at the carnage for themselves.
Once they arrived they saw bodies piled up being burned in a huge funeral pyre and blood smeared on the houses. They made their way to the church to find a crusader already on-scene directing the cleanup. Once they opened the church doors, to their horror they saw the preacher hanging from the rafters, with clearly visible slash marks on his face and arms. The pews were filled with villagers posed in prayer positions clearly dead and a huge pool of blood under the preacher.
The commander entered and ordered his troops to bring the bodies out and add them to the fire. Barry heads out and after all the bodies have been removed Maura hears a whisper calling her named
"who's there?" she asks
"Do you like your belated birthday present?" the voice asks
"yes it is beautiful" maura answered
"Good I made it for you I have to go and remember you will always have my heart" the voice said.
Maura looks around and sees nothing or nobody but felt a hand on her shoulder, she dared not turn around, fearing what it was and walked out of the church.
After the cleanup was done Vince spotted jane walking towards a clearing he got barry's and Maura's attention and motioned for them to follow. They saw jane in the clearing and was about to approach her until they saw that she wasn't human anymore and it dawned on them that she was part of the attack and may have led it.
End flashback
As the messenger from Malick's castle draws nearer, the vampires stand up, walk in the sun and turn to ash.
The tent flap opens and jane steps in and says "it's so hard to find good help these days, then again I guess they would rather die, than deal with me, what a shame"
Barry long time no see and maura "my love" I see you're wearing the dagger I made for you. Barry and maura was shocked to see jane in the sun. barry reflexively put his hand on his sword's hilt and his other hand on his dagger, maura did the same.
Jane cocked her eyebrow and asked "so what exactly do you intend to do with those weapons?, look I'm not here for a fight but in all honesty I could have ripped those pathetic troops of yours apart"
"so relax I'm here to extend an invitation not looking for a fight". Jane said as she walked over and held her hand out for maura to take. Maura hesitated at first but knew Jane would never hurt her. Jane pulled her into a hug and maura returned it.
Jane extended her hand for barry to shake and when he did jane pulled him into a hug and said "you have no idea how much I missed the both of you".
"Jane is that really you?" maura asked cautiously,
"yes it's me silly. who else would it be?" Jane answered.
"How is it you?" barry asked.
"What do u mean barry?" jane responded
"What barry means is, you are a vampire are you not" jane just shakes her head and said "I'm something else now, something beyond vampire" jane responds
"So I'm guessing you're here to kill Malick and free me?" jane asks.
Maura and barry looked at each other and said "yes" in unison,
"oh I already took care of that asshole" jane replies while stroking maura' face, the castle is mine now.
"In fact, I want you to meet someone" a small voice came out of nowhere and asked "is this, my other mommy"
yes little one this is your other mommy, maura and your uncle frost.
Everyone this is my daughter Emily. They looked down and noticed a little girl no more than 3 hiding behind jane's legs. She reached down picked her up and said" don't be shy they r not going to bite. say hello to your other mom maura and your uncle barry" she reached out and shook both their hands.
Maura looked at jane and said "daughter and other mom"
"Yes" jane replied
