I Wanna Be Happy

Looking up at the ceiling, Mindy slowly awakens from her slumber. She looks over to her left on the bed. She smiles to herself, imagining Mark laying down next to her, looking at her.

Mindy sits up, giggling to herself. She puts on her glasses, sliding off the bed.

She's been thinking about this inkling for who knows how long. She kind of knows where he lives and wants to meet him in reality instead of this delusion that she lives in with him. She walks into the main room of her apartment, looking around herself.

Mindy looks over at the kitchen, sighing to herself. She doesn't feel hungry - even when she looks like it, she doesn't feel like eating.

I need to eat, she thought, shaking her head. She walks over to the couch, stretching her arms and legs. I still feel tired.

She yawns, walking towards the TV, turning it on. She then sits down on the couch, laying back.

The news is blabbing on the TV. Mindy begins to delusion yet again.

She looks over at the small hallway, imagining Mark walking into the living room, smiling at her and saying 'good morning' to her. She just smiles as she thinks of him walking into her kitchen, looking through the fridge.

She giggles to herself, hoping she doesn't start a laughing fit. She pulls up one of the nightgown straps, still looking at the kitchen. She feels her heartbeat in her chest getting faster as she thinks of the inkling she met in the elevator. She crosses her legs, looking now at the TV.

"With the slow rise of people talking about the problems with Inkopolis, we may as well start to change ourselves for the better."

Mindy rolls her eyes. There was nothing wrong with her, but maybe a little bit. She gets up and walks into the kitchen, looking at the calendar. She notices that she doesn't have a therapist appointment today.

I get to live out my life, Mindy smiles at the thought, starting to spin around a little in her faded nightgown. She walked out of the kitchen, wondering what to do now since she has the whole day to herself.

Should I go out? It seems nice out. She looks out of one of the windows of the apartment. It's cloudy with some sunlight here and there.

She then looks over at the desk near the couch.

"I should write in my journal first," Mindy tells herself, walking over to the wooden desk with the notebook on it. She sits in the chair, flipping through the pages of the notebook. Mindy takes a pen, tapping it on the desk, thinking.

I think this was a bad idea, Mindy thinks as she walks down the sidewalks of Inkopolis. Looking up at the sky, a frown shows up on her lips.

Mindy looks down at the cracked sidewalk, continuing to walk. She quietly hums to herself, starting to smile. She places her hands in the pockets of her light black jacket.

She looks around herself, seeming to look for a person, a certain person.

As she slowly makes it to the Square, Mindy pulls her hood up, hiding her face from others who were around the area.

Would he be here?

She darts her eyes, but continues to walk down the sidewalk. The octoling doesn't stop. With a gasp, she remembers about the time she followed him to his job at the bank.

He may be there, Mindy thought, smiling.

As her pace continues, she starts to see familiar roads and buildings, bringing her back to that time from last week. She then walks down the road towards the bank.

Going through the entrance, she looks around at the front desks, trying to find him.

Should I do this? Will he get mad at me?

Thoughts swirl through her mind as she continues to look at the desks. Her eyes widened.

She found him.

You have to go up to him. Fake a smile if you have to! Talk to him, or you'll lose him!

Mindy pulls off her hood, walking over to the line of people at the desk.

In front of her was a female octoling, her hair in a ponytail. She was talking to him about her wealth. The octoling had on a tight white dress and a purse.

Mindy sighs quietly to herself.

I wish I looked that good, Mindy thought, looking down at herself. She had on a dark gray sweater with dark blue jeans. Over the sweater was her worn looking black light jacket. Her shoes looked worn out compared to the other girl's fancy looking shoes.

I look like I got trashed, run over, all of those things combined. This other octo looks great. Would he still love me?

Mindy's thoughts start to make her eyes blink. She wants to get away, but she wants to talk to him - only for a bit.

"Do you think that my account is fine with all that money?"

"Yes, miss. I believe it's completely fine," the male inkling told her. "Anything else you want to talk about?"

The octoling in front of Mindy started to whisper, making it so anyone around her can't hear her.

"Miss, why are you asking me that?"

Another whisper.

"I can't be doing that, miss. I have to do my job. I can't sneak out."

"I'm not saying to 'sneak' out," she tells him. "I'm telling you we could do it after you are done working."

Mindy stays silent, wanting to know what he says. She can't believe someone is hitting on him.

"Do I even know you? No, I don't. Please go on your way, there is someone in line waiting patiently."

The octoling scoffs. "You really don't know how to treat a lady, do you sir?"

"Please, go."

Is she seriously trying to do that to my man? Mindy thought, holding in her anger.

The female octoling scoffs one last time, stomping away from the desk.

The inkling mutters curses as Mindy walks up.

Mindy gasps.

"What is it, miss? Something wrong?"

"I recognize you. Are you the guy that I talked to in the elevator that one week?"

The inkling looks up at her. "Yeah, you look familiar. I can't believe you talk."

Mindy giggles. "I don't know what to say."

"Well, do you need any money in your account?"

"No, I don't. I just want to talk to you about her. Do you know her?"

"Hell no. She's one of those. I always have those people come in and hit on me. I don't know why they do it, but it just happens." He sighed. "Sorry, that must have made you uncomfortable."

"It's alright, you don't need to apologize for someone's actions. They should be the one doing it." Mindy starts to smile a little.

"Let me just out right say it, since we are on the topic," the male inkling leans a little bit over the desk. "There are so many pricks and bitches out here, I can't stand it."

Mindy nods, shocked at what she's hearing. "You feel that way?"

The inkling nods. "Anything else you wanna say?"

"No, I'll just leave, sir. Thank you for the talk."

"Welcome, miss."

As Mindy starts to walk away, she looks back at him one last time before leaving the bank.
