It seemed everyone was busy today, and the ocean was calm. Birds flew above overhead the beach house as the sound of the warp pad was activated.

Pearl stood on the warp, looking around the beach house happily with a book in her palms. "Steven, are you home?"

Steven walked down the stairs with a smirk on his face.

"Oh, hey pearl" he said as he walked closer to her.

She smirked. "Oh! Hello, Steven!" She came up to him, the book under her arm. "Garnet and Amethyst were busy so I thought I'd check up on how things were going here, it's been a few. How are you doing?"

"I'm doing okay. I was just texting Connie, she said she wanted to come over a little bit later today"

"If that's fine with you.? Cause I said it's alright"

Pearl nodded. "Ohh, that's riiiight," she waved at the air, "Of course that's fine with me, I'm just going to be catching up on some more of your human literature." She flipped the book open to point at a page and grin. "It's so funny how you humans come up with such interesting tales."

She shrugged with a grin. "You could almost think they were real!"

He chuckled.

"Yeah you could. what are you reading?"

He leaned to look at the book.

She turned the book to show the cover. It looked like it had some sort of muscular man and woman on it. "The tale of Elector Endearing," she said in a sort of fancy accent, "He's described to be very handsome and daarring, he gets all the woman. It's quite farfetched, but rather entertaining. Very romantic and heroic." She seemed to blush at the thought.

He started to laugh. "Okay, well have fun with that. I'm gonna go check up on dad and see what he's up to" He said as he turned around and walked away.

She waved. "Alright, have fun, Steven. Say 'hi' to Greg for me." She came over to the couch.

He opened the door, walked down the steps, and walked over to his dad's van.

Greg hummed a tune as he looked through the contents of his van, pushing his long locks aside.

"Hey, Dad!" He said waving a hand in the air. He walked to the back of the van.

He jerked, turning in surprise, a CD in his hand. "Oh! Shtooball, heyy!"

"What are you doing?"

He looked over his shoulder back at the junk pile in his van. "Aggh, just sorting through some old stuff I always keep around." "Mostly CDs and video tapes, never knew when or if I'd use 'em." He chuckled.

Steven picked one up. "Hey, I never knew you liked these guys" Steven held a cd up it to him.

Greg squinted at the cover a moment. "Oh, those guys? Hah, I used to jam out to those guys all the time when I was on the road. They had some of the best guitar solos." He sighed at the memory happily. "Too bad the band split up eventually."

"The Far-Out Guys were a real hit back in my day."

"Whaaat? I didn't know they split up" He said with a sad expression on his face.

"Why did they split up?"

He frowned slightly. "Yeah, had to do with some sort of 'who's the main band guy' kind of thing. They split up to go for solo careers, but they all fell from there. No one noticed the poor guys as solos."

"Aw, that's too bad" He frowned. "Hey, just wanted to let you know I was gonna head to the store to go buy some stuff"

"Wanna come?"

"Connie was gonna come over so I wanted to get some snacks and things"

He shrugged. "Sure, shtooball. I don't have anything better to do other than cleaning out the van."

"Okay, I'll start the car" He said walking away from the van and to the house.

"Let me go grab my keys"

"Alright, I'll grab my bag." He walked to the end of his van.

He arrived at the door and opened it. He walked over to the counter and grabbed the keys. "Hey, pearl, I am gonna run to the store with dad"

"Did you need anything specific?"

Pearl was suddenly not in the room anymore, and her book was lying on the couch.

He tilted his head to the side. "Hm. Guess she was busy"

He walked out of the door and closed it behind himself.

He arrived at his car and got in.

"Hey, Dad, you ready?"

Greg come and joined him at the car, getting into the passenger's seat. "Yep, all set."

He sighed. "Okay."

He closed his car door and started it.

Before he drove away he set up his Mp3 player to the stereo.

"Oh, you don't mind if I put on some music right?" He turned his head to his father.

He grinned. "Put on whatever you want."

He returned the smile. "Okay, good. 'Cause I found this new song, and I might repeat it a few hundred times" He said with a chuckle

He returned the laugh. "I know the feeling."

Steven set down the mp3 player. He looked in the rear-view window and drove off.

He nodded his head to the beat of the song.

Greg tapped his fingers on the windowsill, looking out at the scenery.

Soon they got on the road that lead to the supermarket.

As he was driving, he felt a vibrating sensation in his jacket pocket.

Greg continued to look out the window.

He grabbed it out of his pocket and saw there was a text message, he handed it to his dad. "Here, read it to me" he said looking at him then back at the road.

"It's from connie."

Greg looked a little surprised. "Oh, alright."

Steven turned on his blinker and turned on the next part of the road.

He looked at the text and read, "Hey, Steven, I'll be at the beach house in around an hour, sorry, I'm running late. I will see you soon." He shrugged. "Well, I guess we'll have extra time to buy snacks and do other things if you want then."

"Oh, okay. Text her that it's fine and that it works out anyway"

"Or just text her.. something"

He mumbled inaudibly to himself as he typed in an answer. "Alright, done." He looked up at Steven. "So, what are you two planning to do today when Connie does arrive?"

He stayed silent for a moment. "Hm, well she wanted to watch a movie that just came out"

"And I said I wanted to play a video game that I just bought"

"But. Other than that. Not much"

He nodded in thought. "Sounds like you two will have a good time. I remember when you and me used to do those sort of things. I used to like playing games." He chuckled.

He stayed silent.

He noticed the silence. He frowned in confusion. "Hey, you alright, shtooball?"

He looked to the side, the car drifting to the side slowly.

"Huh, oh. uh. Yeah" He said noticing the car. He turned the car back in place.

Silence filled the car.

He rubbed the back of his neck, unsure what he'd said wrong.

His eyes were glued on the road. But noticed his dad's expression.

"Oh, uh. I-It wasn't you, I just thought of something" he said glancing between the road and his dad.

He looked at him in surprise. "Huh?"

He sighed. "Never mind"

He turned the corner and there was the supermarket.

He frowned. "I'm not sure what you thought I meant earlier, but I was only recalling past memories, I apologize if I made you think I meant something else, Steven."

"When I said I remember us playing games, I meant that I remembered when you were a toddler and quite young, we'd try out the old game boys and all those toys." He grinned somewhat. "It was always so hard for you to move the controls."

He turned into the parking lot. "No, no. it wasnt you, it was—"

He looked back at him. "It's not as if we don't do fun things now, Steven."

He turned into a parking spot and turned off the car including the music.

"I know"

Silence filled the car and he looked at the wheel.

"It's nothing." He said unbuckling and opening the door.

He got out of the car and walked around to the side.

Greg felt bad, he sighed and got out of the car. He shoved his hands into his pockets and his wallet. "Alright, let's just forget about it. Let's go get your snacks for you two."

The hybrid looked at his feet. "I- Yeah.. Sorry" He looked to his dad. "Let's just go inside."

Greg smirked somewhat. "Alright."

He walked into the store and grabbed a cart. He sighed.

"Uhm, I'm sorry. I just thought of something. Sorry"

Greg looked at his him. "It's alright, I understand"

He pulled out his phone and pulled up a short list of items. "Okay, so, I need to buy some chips first"

He grabbed the phone and looked at the list of items. "Alright."

Steven pushed the cart into one of the many isles.

He grabbed some organic Doritos and veggie straws. (Me: I'm sorry, they're my favorite)

"Okay, so what's next?"

"Uhh, orange diet soda and some granola bars."

"Okay," He said setting the items in the cart. He pushed the cart into the drink isle. "Oh, do you want anything?"

He looked at him, almost as if he was torn from a thought. "Hm? Oh, no, I'm fine, thanks."

"Okay. So, that's all, right?"

He looked back down at the phone for a double take before nodding. "Yep."

"Okay." He stuck his hand out expecting the phone.

He placed it in Steven's palm and looked around the store.

He grabbed it and stuck it in his jacket pocket. He walked to the checkout.

They finished checking out and walked to the car. He stopped the cart and set it next to the opened the trunk and unloaded the groceries.

"Alright, well, that only took us about twenty minutes to do that. You mind dropping me back off at my van when we get back?" He placed a grocery in the car. "I'm gonna finish cleaning up that mess, maybe you can go see what the others are doing while you wait in the meantime."

"Yeah" He closed the trunk and grabbed the cart. "I'll drop you off at the van, and for the gems, I think they were busy so, I guess I could help you clean up your mess in the van, that is if you want help"

He chuckled. "Oh no, you don't have to worry about helping me. It's only a few things. Why don't you take a break and go see what Garnet or Pearl are doing? Or even Peridot; I know you haven't seen her in a while. I'm sure even the diamonds would love to talk-if you wanted to anyway. Just throwing ideas out there."

"Okay, well. Yeah, I'll probably check on what's happening on little homeschool. But the diamonds are probably my last resort" He smiled.

He laughed. "I don't blame ya. They're pretty clingy."

"I'll go put the cart away."

He got into the passenger's seat. "Alright."

He set the cart in a cart holder then walked over to the car, he opened the drivers door then closed it.

He buckled himself in and grabbed the mp3 player.

He put it on shuffle and set it down. He started the car and checked his rear-view mirrors.

He drove out of the parking lot and onto the road.

-At home -

He drove up to the house and parked next to his dad's van.

"Okay, we're here. Thanks for keeping me company, and... sorry for me being.."

"Kinda weird.."

"Yeah, of course, shtooball, and don't worry about it, I'm not gonna bug you about whatever you dont' wanna talk about right now." He shrugged and got out. "Alright, so this is where I head off. You have fun with Connie once she arrives, I'll be tackling this mess down at the garage. I know I cleaned out most of the junk there, but this stuff has to go somewhere."

He smirked. "Okay, thanks"

He turned off the car and got out.

"See ya later, son," he called, running back to his van to gather his things.

"See ya later, dad"

He pulled out his phone and looked at the time.

Okay, she won't be here for another 10 minutes.. He thought.

He walked over to the house.

He opened the door and saw that no one was there.

Suddenly, Pearl popped her head out from behind the kitchen counter. "Oh, hi, Steven!"

"Oh, hey Pearl,"

"What are you doing?"

"Just- trying to find the dish soap," she referenced to the cabinet she was rummaging through. It was clear she had been doing the dishes for Steven.

"Oh, I was going to do those; it's in the other one"

He walked over to her and bent down, opening the cabinet and pulling out the dish soap.

She waved him off. "Don't worry about it, it's the least I could do. Oh, and I also did your laundry, and mopped the floor. It sure does get dusty in here-Oh, there's the soap, thank you, Steven."

"Pearl, why? I was going to. But, thanks anyway, why do I have a chore list if your gonna do them all for me?"

She chuckled. "It's really no problem, gives me something to do. And I'm sure there's plenty of other things you can do. I just wanted the place to look nice for when Connie comes over."

He sighed. "Thanks though, it gives me more time to- wait, did you clean my room?"

Her face turned slightly blue. "Ah, well, I only tidied up a little bit. Your room doesn't get very messy, you do a good job at keeping it cleaner."

He blushed. "P-pearl, that's my room. I mean, thank you for cleaning it. But, I have some stuff in there that are private." "You didn't touch anything in there did you?"

She made an unamused face. "Steven, you know I respect your privacy, it's why we rebuilt your room with a wall. All I did was pick up your dirty laundry and sweep the floor. It's not like I'd be looking through your drawers or something."

He looked relieved. "Okay, just making sure" He looked to the side.

She rolled her eyes with a grin and bent down to put the soap in the dishwasher. "You really should make sure your room is completely clean before you invite anyone over in the first place. I can't understand how Amethyst can invite anyone over to her room with the constant state it's in. The disorder in there-" she tutted, "it's enough to drive one insane."

He chuckled "that's amethyst for ya" "Yeah, I probably should've cleaned it before I went out- OH! I forgot the groceries" He said smacking his forehead.

She raised a brow with a smirk. "Forgot them? In the car? Would you like me to go help you bring them in?"

"No, I'm fine. There's not that many," He ran to the door. "I'll be right back"

He walked out the door and down the stairs in a hurry.

She shrugged. "Alright." She closed the dishwasher.

He got to the car and put his hand in his pocket.

"Wh- Ughhhhh" He ran back to the house, up the stairs and into the house.

Pearl looked over her shoulder in surprise.

He started to breath heavily. "Forgot the keys"

She raised a brow again.

He ran out the door and down the steps once more.

He clicked a button on the keys, and it unlocked the trunk. He grabbed out the 4 bags and walked to the house, opening the door and setting the bags on the table.

Pearl looked at him knowingly. "Did you close your vehicle?"

He growled.

"HuuuUghhhh"

He ran over to the door and ran down the steps

Pearl gave him a sympathetic look, coming over to the groceries to help him unpack them on the counter.

He walked up the steps slowly. He opened the door breathing heavily. "hhuuughh.." He walked over to the table and pulled out a chair, sitting on it.

. She put the plastic bags under the counter and looked at him. "You alright, Steven?"

"We have too many steps"

Pearl laughed softly. "It is quite a long walk."

"I ran down like 3 times.." He felt his phone vibrate.

"It's from Connie. She says she's here."

He set his phone in his pocket.

Pearl came over from the counter and grabbed a broom and dustpan from beside the firepit. "You two have fun, I'll just be sweeping off the warp pad gates." She seemed very excited to do this.

"They always get so much space dust on them."

Pearl stood on the warp and waved before she was warped away.

"Oh, okay"

Suddenly he heard a knock at the door.

He smiled in surprise, there she was, the lovely Connie. He stood up from the chair.

"Hey, Steven!" she greeted happily, going in for a hug.

"Hey, Connie!" he walked closer and hugged her.

She returned the hug and stepped back, holding up a movie case. "I brought that movie you wanted, it's the third in the series, it just came out." She smiled. "I don't know how they're going to top the second one, but I won't be surprised if they do."

He smiled and blushed. "Y-yeah, great! I can go set it up right now if you want, I also got some snacks- you don't have to eat them if you don't want to though"

She gave him a funny look. "Of course, I'll eat them. What's a movie without snacks?" She looked around the room. "Wow, its sure stays clean in here, doesn't it? Are the gems around or busy again?"

"Yeah, pearl just cleaned it," He set his hand on the back of his neck." I'm not quite sure what they're up to exactly, all I know is that they aren't home"

"Hm, maybe they're doing a gem mission or something, like the old days. I'd be surprised if they needed to do something like that anymore though with how much Homeworld has changed." She set her duffel bag on the couch and sat down. "I brought some snacks and other things too."

"Oh, yeah," He joined her on the couch. "What'd you bring?"

She pulled out a few games for his console and movies, including various candies and health bars. "Just some stuff. I also brought my bathing suit; I thought since it's so nice out maybe you'd want to go swimming."

"Oh! Yeah, that's a good idea, I didn't think about us going swimming." He said lifting a finger in the air at the idea. "What should we do first, though?"

She shrugged. "Well, you said you were gonna set up a movie. We don't have to do anything in a specific order, just whatever we wanna do. If you wanna go swimming right now while the sun is out, we can do that."

"Yeah, we should probably go swimming right now. And when we get back we could play games, then watch a movie"

She smiled. "Sure, I'll get changed." She approached the bathroom with her duffel bag then stopped. She turned and pointed to the bathroom door. "Do you mind if I...?"

He blinked. "Oh, no, I don't mind," he waved his hands back and forth. "I'll go get changed too, I'll come down when I'm ready" He gestured to the stairs.

She nodded. "Alright." She came over to the bathroom and opened the door and walked in, closing it behind her.

He turned around and walked towards the stairs. He walked up the stairs and into his room. He walked over to his dresser and pulled out his bathing suit, which was a pair of dark pink swimming trunks. He switched out of his outfit and put it on. Including his pink sandals

He walked down the stairs yawning.

She came out of the bathroom, the duffel bag on her shoulder. She wore a black swimsuit top with shorts connected. A pink star was on the front, including two lines around the bottom of the shorts. She also had black sandals on her feet. She smirked and brushed back her bangs, coming over to the couch. "I'm ready!" she called.

"Should we bring sunscreen and towels? Maybe an umbrella?"

"Okay!" He walked closer to her and blushed, looking her up and down. "Uh.."

He shook his head, coming back to reality. "Oh, uh, yeah, we can get those"

"An umbrella would work, including some towels."

She gave him a soft smirk, slight blush on her face. "Okay, I'll go look for one."

His expression softened. "I think there's one in my closet"

The two of them eventually set up on the beach, and a pink umbrella moved gently in the warm breeze as they walked along the beach.

She sets down her duffel bag near her sky-blue towel with little dolphins on it. She sighed and breathed in the fresh air, digging her toes into the sand as she pushes her sandals off.

"It's so nice out today." She stared at the waves.

"Yeah.." He breathed in the fresh ocean air, closing his eyes while the breeze hit his face.

Suddenly, sand is thrown into the air as Connie begins to run and jump into the water with a laughing yell.

He closed his eyes and shielding his face with his arm. He lowered his arm and smiled.

He stood up and ran towards her.

She splashed in the water, swimming and laughing.

He jumped high in the air and did a front flip. Making a huge splash.

She screamed with a smile, shielding her arm for the impending splash from him.

He came out from under the water and laughed.

The water flew into the air, a wave washing over Connie's head. She came out of the water laughing. "Wow, nice flip," she chuckled.

He chuckled "Thanks"

He held his breath and went under water.

It started to become quiet.

He came up from the water with wet hair.

He held out his hand.

"Here, I have an idea"

She blinked in surprise.

He made a bubble over her head and then his.

She gasped in surprise with delight. "Whoa."

"I didn't know you could do that."

"Look" He pulled her under.

She followed after him. "Okay."

He swam further holding her hand. There were schools of fish and some other creatures.

She smiled and looked around at the coral reefs ahead. "Whoa, steven, look!"

He looked at her smiling. then at where she was pointing.

EDITED

A large array of coral and anemones and fish swam by in a reef.

"Whoah" She grinned and kept swimming. "This is amazing."

"Yeah.." He looked at her and he fell into a daze.

She looked at him, noticing his blank expression. "Uh, Steven? You okay?"

He snapped back into reality once more. "Oh, uh. yeah I'm fine"

She didn't look convinced. "Something on your mind?"

"Uh." He looked down. "No, I'm fine" He gave her a reassuring smirk."Let's go back to the surface"

She looked at the reef once more. "Okay."

Once their head's emerged out from under the water, the bubbles popped.

She swam back over to the shallow part of the beach and stepped out, sighing happily. "That was a great cooldown, and wow, all those fish. That felt magical," she laughed. She sat down on the towel and grabbed a drink from the cooler.

He joined her. "yeah, it was pretty nice huh?"

He leaned over and grabbed a drink.

He grabbed the orange diet soda from the cooler and poured it into a plastic cup.

"Yeah, I can't remember the last time I really did something like that. It's been so much of the same thing every day lately. There's always something new and interesting when I hang out with you." She smirked. "My life just always seems to bland in comparison, y'know?" She meant it as a joke, but there was a hint of sadness in the sentence.

He frowned. "Yeah.. It's been a while.." He set his drink down on the sand, creating a cup holder like area. "But.."

"Sometimes it gets, overwhelming." He moved his legs closer to his chest.

She mimicked his position, placing her elbow on her knees as she clasped her palms around her drink in front of her.

"It's just. Sometimes, I wish my life was," He looked to the side. "Normal"

"It's just so, stressful- and there's so many responsibilities being the 'son of pink diamond'- the 'protecter of the universe' " He sighed.

He moved his head into his knees. "Sometimes I wish I wasn't any of that.." he mumbled.

She seemed exasperated. "I would die to have the life you have, Steven! At least something interesting actually happens! I mean, you have powers for crying out loud. You're so important, and- yeah, I know what you're gonna say, 'It's a dangerous life, Connie, bad things have happened and it's a huge responsibility', I know that. But I mean, look around, you liberated the gems, you liberated the diamonds, the earth! And you're like the hero, you're praised and basically everyone knows Steven Universe." She shrugged. "And connie's just... Connie. Just a girl who fought by Steven's side; his pet, as the diamonds put it. Even if you had to live up to a name, at least you had a name to really live up to at all."

His eyes widened.

"I.."

She reddened. "I- I'm sorry, that was... I didn't mean to act like-" She sighed, rubbing at her face. "I just wanted to have a good time and here I am ruining it already by just..."

"That's not true!" He interrupted. "I'm the one ruining our time!" He set his hand on his chest.

"I just.. You're not my 'pet' and you're not just 'Connie' you're... So, much more than that."

He sighed

"I. Can't tell you how much time I've spent thinking about her"

He furrowed his brows and closed his eyes. "I just wish I could forget it all.."

"Her.."

He hid his head in his legs once more

"I know SO many people would want my life, my powers. But my life is so complicated and frustrating, stressful."

She frowned. "I'm sorry I made it sound like this was about me. I'm just trying to show you how much you're worth, and to everyone around you, I wouldn't ask you to be anyone different. And yeah, life is hard, as a diamond or not, I couldn't imagine all the things you've ever gone through, I only know a few. But you wouldn't be Steven Universe if it wasn't for your mom. So why forget her? I know she wasn't the best person, but she gave up half of herself just to create you. If that's not a final act of love I don't know what is. She's not asking you to live up to her, and you know that. You don't have to live up to being Pink diamond either like the diamonds want, you be who you want to be, Steven, diamond or not."

He turned his head to look at her. Tears started forming in his eyes.

"I'm sorry" His voice cracked as he bit his lip.

She furrowed her brows, guilt on her face. "It's okay, Steven. It's not your fault. You never asked to inherit years of history and responsibility." She shrugged. "No one does."

He sniffed and started to cry.

She came beside him and wrapped an arm around him. "Hey, it's okay..."

He closed his eyes and grabbed her tight. He started to breath harder, but noticed and tried to calm himself down.

She returned the hug, placing a palm on his back. "It'll be alright, Steven, don't worry."

He grabbed her tighter. "H-how do you know that?"

"Because you're a crystal gem, and I've seen you always get through hard times. No one's asking you to do the impossible, and if you ever need help, you know you can always ask the gems or even me. We're still Jam buds, right?" She looked at the sand as she planted her chin on his shoulder. "Whenever you have to do something hard, I'll always be there to help you through it, Steven. All you have to do is just ask..."

He sniffed. "Okay.. yeah, Jam buds." He started to smile.

She pulled away and smiled back with a short breathy laugh. "Yeah."

He had an expression crossed between sad/happy.

"Sorry for making our time here kinda.. Awkward." He looked at her.

She shook her head. "No, no, it's okay. I think we both needed to get some things out."

He wiped his tears off his face but ended getting his face even more wet.

She smirked. "I feel a lot better now anyway, and I've had a lot of sun. Do you wanna keep hanging out or go inside?"

He looked around.

"We could relax a little bit out here before we go inside"

"Oh.. And um," He looked to the side, "Thanks, I feel. Better

"

She nodded. "Of course, Steven. Sometimes it's just good to talk things out."

"Yeah..It's just hard to talk to the gems about this stuff.."

She frowned. "I understand. They can be a bit... overreactive."

He started to chuckle very faintly. "Yeah" He looked down.

"ACK" he jumped from something big, warm and wet touching his back.

Lion looked at Steven with his big curios eyes.

He set a hand on his furry friends head. "Oh, hey buddy"

"Hey, lion," she greeted, coming over to him and petting the lion with her wet hand.

Lion flinched at the water the two had on them.

She laughed, "sorry, I'm all wet, let me get a towel." She grabbed her duffel bag and pulled out an orange towel with white stripes.

She began to dry off her body and hair.

Lion walked over to her and grabbed something out of her bag and ran away.

"Lion! Wait, that's no yours!" The hybrid said getting up from his towel and running after the pink feline.

She ran with him. "Wait, lion, what do you have? Come back!"

Steven finally caught up to him and grabbed it. "No, no, Lion" He waved a finger in the air while breathing heavily. He handed it to his friend. "Here."

She looked at the small locket he'd ran away with.

"Augh, he got his slobber all over it."

He looked at the item.

"What is that?"

She blushed. "Oh, it's just an old locket my mom gave me. I thought I'd put a picture in it. I like to wear it once and a while." The silver locket was shaped like a rose, and inside, she opened it to reveal a small picture of Steven and Connie taking a selfie when they were younger. Steven was laughing in the photo and Connie was grinning ear to ear. They looked so happy.

"Wow, we were so young back then, and small."

Lion forcefully nudged at Steven's back, pushing him over and onto Connie.

"Ah!" she fell to the sand and began to laugh. "Lion, what are you doing?"

"A~H"

Lion sat on the two like a stool.

"L-LION ST-Stop!" His voice got muffled.

She wheezed, laughing and trying to escape. "Lion!"

"What's with him today?"

He made a bubble surrounding them and pushing the furry companion off of them.

He gasped for air.

He laughed.

"I don't know" He got off of her and blushed.

She brushed her damp hair back and stood up. "Seems he wants to play," she noted, noticing the pink feline rolling around in the sand.

"Have you been giving him much attention lately?" she joked.

"Yeah.. He sleeps with me every night"

"And hogs the bed,"

"So, I am having to push him off every ten minutes."

She laughed in amusement. "That sounds adorable, Steven."

He blushed. "it's quite obnoxious.."

"Can't sleep."

She grinned. "Yeah, and probably annoying," she agreed.

"You should make him his own bed outside or something."

He crossed his arms

"He does have his own bed, it's in the garden."

She tilted her head. "Oh, then how come he doesn't sleep there? Does just love you too much?" she smiled.

He smiled and scratched the back of his head. "Probably. He won't sit in it unless I am sitting next to him"

lion roared and turned on his belly.

"Do you want a belly rub?" Steven walked closer and stuck his hand out. Before he could Lion widened his eyes and ran away.

He stood there in confusion.

Connie raised a brow. "That's weird, what was that about? Lion?"

"Hm. I don't know..?"

Steven held both his arms and rubbed them. "I think I'm starting to get sunburned"

She rubbed the back of her neck. "I did tell you I brought sunscreen in case. I just usually tan."

He looked at connie."Oh, I just burn if I'm doing nothing but standing in the sun"

She giggled. "I know, Steven. Come on, let's grab the things and head inside. I know you wanted to play that new game I brought over, and see the movie, remember?"

"Oh, yeah. I'll grab my stuff"

Connie nodded and walker over to her stuff, grabbing them and heading towards the house.

He walked over to his towel and grabbed his drink.

He was about to drink it but it had chunks of sand in it. He frowned with a blank expression as he poured it out on the sand.

He looked at Connie who was holding everything in her hands.

"Here, let me help"

He grabbed the umbrella, the bag, the towels, the drinks, and the cooler.

"Okay.."

He tried to keep his balance without falling over.

She rubbed the back of her neck. "Ah, are you sure you got all that?"

"YUP" He grunted trying to hold it all. She smirked and followed him. "You sure are strong."

He smiled.

He walked up to the house.

He walked up the stairs. He got to the door and was breathing very heavily.

Connie opened the door to let steven in and stopped in surprise, looking inside. "Oh-"

"Hi, Amethyst, Hi Garnet."

He couldn't see Infront of himself

"What?"

"Heyy," Amethyst greeted from the kitchen. "Hello," Garnet replied beside her.

The cooler and bag were stacked on each other obstructing his vision.

Connie looked at him. "I guess they're back from whatever they were doing,"

He started to shake trying to stay still without anything falling they weren't very heavy; he was just trying not to drop anything.

"Here, let me help you with that, dude," Amethyst said, grabbing the umbrella and cooler from his hands.

He sighed. "Thanks "he said setting down the other things.

Amethyst set the stuff down beside the kitchen table. "So, you guys went swimming?" she asked.

"Yep," Connie said, still drying herself with a towel.

Steven was dripping water all over the floor.

Garnet hummed, holding Cat Steven. "Sounds like fun. Me and Amethyst were just checking on some things at the kindergarten, nothing important."

Connie grabbed a towel from her bag and handed it to him. "Here Steven."

"Thanks" He threw the towel over his head and moved it back and forth.

He took it off and his hair poofed up.

"Well, me and Steven were just going to watch a movie, maybe play some things, I hope you guys don't mind," Connie said.

Amethyst shrugged. "I'm just headin' to my room to do some of the same things."

Garnet shook her head. "That's fine by me, I'll just be entertaining cat Steven for a bit down here."

"Alright" He threw his wet, sandy sandals aside. He dried off his feet, then his chest.

"Welp, see ya, dudes. Leavin' again," Amethyst excused herself by walking backwards through her door and closing it behind her.

He looked behind himself.

Garnet hummed, petting Cat steven across his fur. "Who's a good boy? Yes, you are."

He smirked, then looked back to Connie.

Connie took off her sandy sandals. "I'm going to get changed again, do you want to play a game or watch a movie?"

"Yeah, whatever you want" he shrugged. "I'll go get changed as well" He said setting the towel on the counter.

She smiled. "I was asking you, silly. But if you say so." She grabbed her clothes and walked to the bathroom.

"Oh, okay"

He walked up the stairs and got changed. He switched out of his swim trunks and into his normal outfit. He grabbed his swim trunks and threw them into his clothes basket. He grabbed a towel and dried off the floor which was covered in water, including the stairs, and the downstairs floor.

Garnet watched him clean the stairs, still standing at the counter with cat Steven.

He just looked at her with a blank expression.

"Why...are you smiling?"

She chuckled. "It's... it's nothing. Definitely doesn't have to do with future vision."

He gave her a confused look.

Cat steven meowed and Garnet squished his ear gently. "Do you want to eat, little one?"

He thought about it a bit but shook it off.

He grabbed the drinks out of the mini cooler, including the snacks and set them in the fridge.

He sighed "Hokay" He sat on the couch.

Connie came out of the bathroom in her usual clothes, her hair damp but dried and frizzy. "Okay, you wanna get that game ready and play it?"

"Oh, yeah"

He got up from the couch and walked up the stairs and set up his Ps4.

She sat against his bed and grabbed a controller. "Shoot, I haven't played a game in a while, gotta get back into the groove," she laughed.

He turned on the system including the Tv. He grabbed the controller out from the cupboard. He chuckled. "I kinda play some games when I have time at night. If I am not tired, that is."

He shrugged. "kinda on weekends"

She nodded. "Yeah." She got into an intense position. "Alright, let's do this." She clenched the controller.

He sat down next to her and started up the game. He smiled and pushed the A button constantly, skipping the beginning credits.

Finally, the title screen appeared. It showed 4 characters on the front, resembling knights, elves, dwarves, and lizards. Including a tiger and various trees and fire in the background.

It was called 'Embers and Renegade' He really enjoyed the game since it reminded him of some other games he liked in the past. He didn't entirely like playing video games, but he liked it when Connie was playing with him and or someone else.

She smiled and laughed gently. "You always wanna play the best games. This one looks great."

3 hours later...

The game made a little victory noise. "Level seventeen complete!"

She throws up her hands. "Woohoo! We're blasting through these levels. We haven't even run into any hard bosses yet."

She shrugged. "I don't wanna jinx us, but this game is pretty easy so far. It's so cute too, I love my tiger character."

He chuckled "yeah, they're not as hard as I thought. And, I think your character looks cute. But, not as boss as mine" He smiled pointing a thumb at his chest. "Mine is a lizard and has a giant Sword and shield, and also a cute cat on his side,"

He smiled while he moved into a new position, moving his legs into a criss cross.

She raised a brow challengingly. "Oh, not as boss, huh? Well, you know mine has a giant scorpion and bow and arrow with enchanted armor. I think that's pretty powerful right there."

He smiled. "Okay, yeah." He smirked. He looked to his right and glanced at the clock.

|2:03 P.m.|

"Wow, we've been playing for a while"

She smirked. "Yeah, RPGs can take a long time. You wanna do something else now?"

He looked at her. "Uhh, yeah, sure. What do you have in mind?'

"I know you said you wanted to watch that movie"

She nodded. "Yeah, we can watch that movie. Do you think Garnet is still around? Maybe she wants to join us, I noticed she was alone earlier."

"Uh, dunno. i'll go check"

He hopped off the bed and walked down the stairs He reached the bottom and looked around.

Garnet sat on the couch, petting cat Steven.

She noticed him looking at her and she smirked. "Hello, Steven."

"Hey, Garnet. Connie was wondering if you wanted to join us for a movie upstairs"

She blinked in surprise behind her glasses. "Oh, if that's okay with you two. I don't want to intrude on your time together."

"Uh, well. Connie said you were invited so; I think it's fine"

He walked closer but stopped about 2 feet set his hands in his pocket.

She tilted her head. "Well, I'd love to join, Steven."

He shrugged. "Alright" He walked back to the stairs.

She followed him up, cat steven in her arms.

He turned at the ending of the stairs and set up the movie.

She sat on Steven's bed, setting the hyper cat on the bed to bounce around. "So, what are you two watching?"

It turned on and he sat on the bed right beside Connie, controller in his hand.

"Uh, Demise Of Space"

He skipped all of the ads as silence filled the room.

"Sounds neat," Garnet said.

Connie smirked. "It should be. The trailers looked great."

He nodded.

Soon, the title screen came.

"This should be interesting," Garnet said to her cat.

"Mhm." He pressed play on the movie.

After the movie

Connie wiped a tear from her eye. "Wow, the writing and acting and everything in that movie was genius. I love it so much." She grinned.

Garnet nodded. "It was quite an emotional story. I like how the two fell in love in the end." She placed a palm on her chin. "You fall in love with the most unlikely of people."

"Yeah, that was really good." Steven said with a smile.

"Wwwwhhattt, do you want to do now?" He said stretching his arms in the air grunting.

She hummed, chewing a piece of granola bar. "I don't know. We could watch another movie or play another game. Or we could go out into town and do something."

"Oh, alright. We could.." He looked at garnet.

"What do you think we should do, Garnet? You do have future vision. What do you see us doing.?"

Garnet looked at the both of them a moment. "Hmmmm..." She tapped her fingers on her chin. "Well, I can see a lot of things you could do. You could go visit your friends, you could go to the big donut, you could drive out of town and visit Empire city, or you could even kiss. The possibilities are endless."

He blushed.

"It's not up to me to decide though, that's your decision."

"Wh-Wha"

"Kiss?" Connie mumbled.

Garnet shrugged.

He looked at the fusion for a moment. "Well...uh"

Connie awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck. "W-well... how about we go down to town and just walk around?"

"Yeah.. Okay" He looked at Connie.

He got off the bed and looked back at Connie.

"You coming?"

Garnet laughed gently and picked up Cat steven. "I'm going to go check on Pearl. She's been cleaning the galaxy warps a while. You two have fun." She walked down the stairs.

Connie blinked. "Oh, yeah."

He watched the fusion go down the stairs.

He looked back at connie.

"Uhm.. Let's go"

He walked down the stairs.

Sometime later...

Connie looked at Steven as they walked down the boardwalk, the sun setting on the horizon and a warm breeze wafting by them. The air smelled of sea salt and fast food.

Steven looked to the side, hands in his pockets.

She smirked warmly, her arms folded behind her back. "Looks like most of everyone is at home, huh?" She noticed the empty restaurants.

He looked at her. "Oh, yeah" He looked ahead. He walked over to a nearby bench and sat down.

She placed her palms on her lap and stared at the sky, the clouds moving by gently.

He looked at her and held her hand.

Her hair blew in the breeze. "It's so beautiful at this time of day."

She noticed.

"Yeah.." He looked at her with a soft expression, blush beginning to show. "Connie.."

She tilted her head. "Yeah, Steven?"

He leaned in closer to her and his heart began to race. She leaned towards him. His lips collided with hers and he set a hand on her neck, moving to her head.

She closed her eyes, and so did he, the orange sky creating an orange hue around them.

They both pulled away, eyes locking with each other's for a moment. Connie smirked and chuckled gently, brushing a hand through her hair. Steven blinked, grinning. "What is it?" Connie stopped laughing a moment. "It's just, I guess Garnet was right, we did kiss." Steven rubbed the back of his neck, reddening. He looked to the side a moment. "Do you... regret it?" He looked at her. She blinked in surprise, then placed a hand on his cheek and smirked. "Of course not, Steven." He grinned, and she kissed him again.

Time skip

Connie glanced at Steven as they both walked down the boardwalk, hand in hand. The sun was almost down the mountains. To Steven, it was suddenly like all his problems had vanished, like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. The only thing he knew was Connie's delicate palm clutching his, and her beautiful, happy face staring back at him. In that moment, he felt like things could turn for the better. That his mother's shadow and the weight of the world wasn't looming down on him for the time. He closed his eyes and exhaled. The sun went down.
