"Can I hit him with my knife?"
"I believe the technical word is stab"
"Basically the same thing."
I covered Yugi's mouth and waited for the guards to pass. They all had menacing glares as they searched for an intruder.
"You were the one who got us in this mess in the first place! Of course, you can't!"
I whispered into his ear as that cheeky, playful grin spread across the small teen's face.
"C'mon~ What's life without risk? You only live once~"
I glared at him and sighed
"No."
I took a moment to realise how much I regretted everything I had ever done. I was stuck in a mission I didn't like, had to deal with an annoying child and had police up my tail.
How did this all start? I asked myself, thinking back.
I sat at my desk. The bell had just rung for the lunch break and I was tired of all the lessons. I placed my head on the desk and closed my eyes, a small, calm nap being rudely interrupted by the increasingly annoying voice of one of the students trying to honey up to me.
"Hey, ~ Yami~"
I wanted to wack him in the face or point the gun (which I carry) to his head. I couldn't do any of it, as it would be like telling the police that I was an S ranked assassin. Only morons would do that.
"Yami~ Come eat lunch with us! You look lonely~"
I couldn't stand his voice. I didn't even know the brat's name but I still hated him with all my gut.
"Yugi, I don't think you should bother him."
The voice of a girl chimed in. I recognised her as the vice of the student council. Masaki Anzu, her name was. She was very popular and also belonged to a rich background.
I had enough of all the people bothering and talking to me. I picked my head up and stared angrily at them. There were more in the group, a blonde who's known for being the class dumbass, Hiroto Honda, who I knew as one of the biggest teenaged gang leaders in the area. The brat who kept nagging me was small and reminded me of a porcelain doll. However, he had a sparkle in his eyes which told me he wasn't as he seemed.
My phone started vibrating, I looked down at it and sighed,
"Leave me alone. I'm going to take a phone call."
I crossed my arms and answered the call, leaving the classroom. I forgot to take my bag, which was a stupid thing for me to do, as there are things in there I'd rather not let the teacher or any students see.
"Yami, we have the perfect task for you."
The gruff voice of my boss muttered on the other end of the phone. I rolled my eyes.
"Yea? Cool, Payment?"
"1,000,000¥"
"Deal. Be there ASAP."
I turned my phone off and took a deep breath. I returned to my classroom and took my bag. It felt lighter than normal. Next, I went to the nurse's office and told her I was feeling sick and had to go home. It was the most basic plan ever. I was surprised that it worked!
I ran into the backstreets and made sure I was far enough away from the school. I took my jacket off and put a black hoodie over my uniform so I wouldn't be caught by any authorities and sent back into school.
"I'm missing something in my bag…"
I whispered under my breath. I continued running until I reached the old warehouse that served as our meeting place.
Its walls were moss and ivy ridden and its door was bordered up. There was graffiti all over the walls and there was trash covering the floor. I snuck inside, keeping low to the floor. I grabbed a nearby steel pole and swang it so it just about didn't hit the old man's face.
"Nice entry."
He clapped, amused. The woman next to him clapped as well.
"Oh my, you have grown so much~~"
I sighed for what felt like the 100th time that day and chucked the pole behind me, "Shut up, Pegasus, Cynthia. Stop being sarcastic."
They both laughed heartily. Pegasus handed me a letter.
"I do believe you are awaiting your next order."
I nodded, getting bored. I opened the letter and skimmed through to find my next target.
"You will be dealing with Seto Kaiba." Pegasus smiled, "Sound fun?"
I gave another nod, looking through his file.
The atmosphere grew cold.
"HOWEVER." The man grinned, "It is a paired task. You will be working with another person for this order."
I glared at him, "No."
Pegasus handed me another sheet of paper and ordered me to not look at it yet.
"You'll be working with this special subject" Pegasus flipped his silvery hair dramatically and clicked loudly.
That's when someone emerged.
They had the same haircut as me, was incredibly small and looked like a living porcelain doll. His eyes were innocent and had a small hint of haughtiness to them. He gave a teasing look.
Without speaking, he chucked a gun over to me and laughed playfully,
"I believe you were missing this, Yami ~"
No, no, no… This couldn't be right, could it? I didn't really have him as my partner…
"You're partner will be Mutou Yugi."
"SINCE WHEN WERE YOU HERE?!" I yelled, pointing at him in surprise.
"Dunno"
He shrugged and walked up to me. He gently gave me a 'boop' on the nose, which I didn't appreciate.
I gave an aggravated look to him,
"Do you even know who I am?!"
"Yup, just don't care"
I tried to explain to Pegasus how this mission wouldn't work and how I could do it by myself, but he decided to wave the million over my head and so…
I ended up doing the most crucial mission of my life
With a dumbass brat from school.
It was 21:00 pm. We found an opening which leads to the emergency room for the basement. I stared at Yugi.
"We have two options. Only kill him, or kill everyone here."
Yugi giggled, "The second one seems fun~"
I nodded, pulling out my lockpicking tools and searching for flammable things in the basement's locker.
"There's fuel, Wanna burn this bitch?"
Yugi pouted, "No swearing!"
I had never wanted to kill someone as much as right then, and that's funny as my job is killing people.
"Let's take the supplies and make up the plan as we go~"
Yugi carefreely grinned, slipping the fuel into his empty water bottle.
I chuckled, "Please just drink it already."
"Want to taste it first, Yami?"
I realised that there was no point arguing.
I helped Yugi up into the air vent and watched all the employees from underneath us, they were working like mindless ants. I would be so happy to put them out of their misery. We found a room that was clear and jumped down. Big mistake.
I caught Yugi, him making noise as we fell would be a bad thing. The lid to the air vent made a large crash on the floor. I gulped and dashed to find a place to hide. My heart was racing, I felt my temperature rise by a lot. I ducked behind a chair. I have no idea where Yugi hid, but it was good as I couldn't see him.
A guard jumped into the room and searched around. He locked eyes with me. He opened his mouth to yell, but the door to our room shut without noise. His face was covered by two perfect, pale hands and a square of fabric.
"Let's put you into a sweet, restful slumber~"
Yugi's face was covered with a large, sadistic smile. He gently cut into the man's throat, letting the blood stain the cloth and not the floor.
I helped out, hauling the employee's corpse into the broom closet.
"There's no point taking his clothes, they're stained…" I thought aloud.
"You're more twisted than me."
"Impossible"
I opened the door and dashed for it, Yugi going the opposite way. We were planning on meeting in the hallway closest to the elevator at the end of the hall. My heart was beating quickly, the adrenaline rushed through my body, engulfing me in a way I found rather pleasurable. It was never the deaths I liked about this job, it was always the thrill of the 'hide and seek' game we played.
A large beeping noise rang in my ears, I hid behind the corner.
"Intruder! We have spotted an intruder! North hall!"
I facepalmed
' Goddamnit Yugi, I knew you'd slow me down '
I thought, continuing to run without the other guards noticing.
The lights in the hall dimmed, then shut off. I was utterly confused, not understanding why the lights just suddenly turned off. I took the opportunity and crept around. I ended up in a small corridor. My breathing was heavy and I tried to calm down a little.
The corridor was small and cramped. It was completely black due to the lack of lights, but I could tell the floors and walls were marble. I walked backwards, taking in my surroundings. There was nothing in my way and I knew I could do this mission.
Even without Yugi.
...bump…
I jumped and searched for ways to get away frantically. That's when I saw who was staring at me.
Glowing amethyst eyes, a gentle smile and a delicate appearance.
"You scared the shit out of me." I glared at him,
"I turned the power off, it won't be long before we can kill the head of this place~"
"So it was you who turned off the power?"
Yugi nodded proudly and gave the look which begged for praise. I don't know why, but I blushed softly.
"Well done, I guess."
He looked very happy.
The room we were meant to reach was only a stretch away. I pulled Yugi in close and watched as the lights turned back on. When they did, I got a good view of the room. It was decorated poshly and looked like a very good room to burn.
All the guards started racing towards that room, though the crowds soon cleared up and we got to see the man we needed to kill.
He had a posh looking suit on and had deep brown hair. He looked very serious too.
Soon there weren't any guards or employees around, apart from a few. Yugi looked impatient.
"No."
Yugi gave a small, innocent pout and watched as the random burst of guards cleared up again. I gave it a moment so it'd be okay and took my gun in my sheath and knife in the other. Yugi did the same.
The small teen lead the way, he made his way into the main office room and burst open the air vent. We cambered through there and bust it open when we reached Kaiba's room.
I grabbed Kaiba by his wrists and pulled him to the ground. Yugi locked the door and made sure it was blocked by a nearby locker. The teen threw me a small bit of rope and let me tie him down.
"You can stab him now."
Yugi insisted, giggling.
I growled, "Just because you have a pretty face, it doesn't mean you can order me!"
Yugi blushed, fiddling with his hair,
"You…You think I'm pretty?"
He gave me hopeful eyes, which made me blush too.
"No, moron.."
"I know you like me, really"
"I need to kill a man, shut up."
I pressed the knife up against his throat. I enjoyed watching him struggle. I slowly cut into him, letting the blood flow onto the carpet. Yugi jumped in and stabbed him normally, ruining my fun.
"Let's burn this bitch!" I cheered, taking Yugi's waterbottle and checking the fuel.
The door slammed open, even with the locker against it. One of the guards came through. There were a group of them.
The main one charged at Yugi, they carried a knife in one hand. I wondered why they didn't use guns. The man tackled Yugi down, Yugi gasping for breath and squirming.
The man lifted the knife up and swang down. But, instead of getting Yugi.
He got me.
I pushed Yugi out of the way and dealt with the stab. It was very deep, bleeding tremendously. I gulped down the pain and kicked the guards stomach to release myself. I tore the knife out of my wound forcefully, wincing in pain as I did.
I looked over to Yugi. He jumped up and kicked one of them in the jaw, knocking them unconscious. He took the limp body and chucked it to one of the other guards, before stabbing them both. Yugi lanced at me and made sure to finish the last man off.
I thanked Yugi, putting my hand up to high five. He happily accepted the opportunity, giving me a massive high five and smiling.
"Will your arm be okay?"
He asked, I nodded,
"Obviously. Who do you think I am?"
Yugi shrugged, "Dunno~"
I facepalmed again. I changed the subject by taking the bottle of fuel and pouring it over the corpses. Yugi lit it ablaze, watching the flames for a moment.
"Wanna run?"
"Let's take care of everyone first"
We went from room to room burning stuff until the whole building was set on fire. I grabbed Yugi and jumped out of the window to escape, landing on a nearby rooftop.
We listened to the music. The screams as the employees tried to leave. Too bad for them, we locked all the doors before leaving. With a grin on my face, I said,
"That was fun"
Yugi nodded, he took my hand and smiled,
"Come to my place for a bit, I'll bandage you up!"
I took a photo of the burning building, sent it to Pegasus and let him drag me to his home.
In the quiet night, I heard the sounds of underpaid employees screaming for their life. In the quiet night, I was being taken to some brats house. However, I enjoyed that… ItIt was the first time anyone had held my hand.
Yugi sat me down on his sofa. His parents weren't home. He silently bandaged my arm up after turning the tv on. There were instant reports of the Kaiba Corporation's building burning to the ground. We were glad when they said the culprit was one of the dead men in the building.
I remember feeling dizzy and curling up. There was a blanket over me and a warm hug. I closed my eyes unwillingly and fell asleep.
"Yami~"
"Hey, Yami~"
I had a sudden urge to wack the brat talking in the face, but I decided against it
"Yami~ Come eat lunch with us! You look lonely~"
"Yugi, I don't think you should bother he - - "
Anzu stopped when I pulled my head up from the desk. I stared at the two of them angrily.
" I'm only eating with you for business reasons, OK? "
Yugi nodded contently, taking my hand and dragging me over to his table. His friends were all dumbfounded and asked each other what happened. I don't even know either.
As I ate lunch, I took a moment to realise how much I appreciated what happened. I had to do a mission I ended up enjoying, laughed in the face of the police and most of all…
Dealt with the annoying child who I soon grew to love.
For no reason at all.
