Wilde
Zootopia through Nick's perspective
[etc.] = the scene plays out like in the movie [etc.]
1. The Beginning
- Nick went to see the plot of land reserved for Wilde Times Theme Park but the property was seized through IRS levy for tax debt. He attended the Foreclosure Auction, Raymond and Kevin bought it under Mr. Big's name
a. Mr. Big used to be his lifeline and confidant, the skunk butt rug incident happened, and Nick was cut off, leaving him penniless, he couldn't pay off the debt nor were his appeals accepted (for being a fox, his judgment was questioned, slandered for father's criminal past)
b. Nick spoke with friend (a bunny) who auctioned the property, ready because of his dad's lost legacy
Denounced Nick's dad and asked him if he'd like to end up the same
2. Nick is on the same train as Judy, but Nick doesn't bat an eye
3. Nick and Finnick plan pawpsicle hustle
- Altercations with the refusal to be humiliated and overall threats from Finnick
- Didn't work last time because the last shop called the ZPD; they were luckily never caught nor identified since
- Nick promises this is the last gig in Downtown Zootopia
4. The Ice Cream Parlor
- Nick almost run over by the truck, Judy snoops on him
a. Nick's inner thoughts about Judy, the meter maid
Doesn't seem so bad
Imagining group pilates in the Naturist club
b. Finnick mocks Judy in her voice; Nick isn't into her but wonders why she treated him like that so uncommonly kind of someone like her to deal with someone like him. Nick profiles her in front of Finnick after he bugs Nick enough about liking her (in preparation for a later encounter); Finnick keeps teasing Nick about having a crush on her and sings Lovely [Judy] by The Beatles and Finnick brings the truck in. Nick goes to the roof with the pawpsicle.
5. Judy's Confrontation
- Finnick/Nick's conversation on the way to the alley
N: "Did you print out the licenses?"
F: "You mean the first two ones I found in the gaggle search?"
N: "Of course. Let me see those."
F: "Why?"
N: "Officer Toot-Toot's headed this way."
F: "Sooner or later they're going to realize it's not really redwood, and when that happens, you best hope that they don't-"
N: "Ooh somebody's cranky today. Here, how 'bout a binkie, baby"
F: *shouting* ARE YOU CRAZY-"
N: "Shhshhshush you gotta start playing it cool"
F: "*chuckles* Good luck, buddy. *Laughs*. You just flushed your first impression right down the-"
N: "That is not what's happening here. Look, just get out, take the money and act natural."
F: "Dude, she don't even know what natural for you is anymore."
Nick counts money [etc.]
- Nick's assumption was fabricated, he knew very well it was the same cute little bunny he saw on the train. He just wanted to get under her skin, but at the same time, she was sneaking her way into his. And the irksome conversation turned cynical and speculative (and speciesist) in self-defense to feel better about himself for the way she talked to him...[etc.]
a. After saying "Hang in there!" Nick thinks "Nevermind, I was wrong about bunnies, you know one, you know all. And to think I was getting my hopes up that maybe one person could show some decency...". Her last words to him cut him to the core. She had no idea about his dreams nor the auction.
6. 1955 Cypress Grove Lane
- Nick goes home to sulk and flips through old family photos of him and his family (junior scout uniform, a photo with his parents for his bday as a kit, and one of him and his dad). He looks at that last photo and speaks through the veil for a moment: "I'm sorry, Dad. I couldn't save it...*He wells up* I'm in so deep... I've let you down for far too long but I promise, I PROMISE, I'll make things right."
- Flashbacks (save for later in the story):
a. Nick listened behind a closed bedroom wall. Nick's dad is distressed because he's leaving home because the mob plans to take him, so he wants to escape.
Mom: "You've endangered this family for far too long, {Richard}! You've kept us underground for years! And all because you don't want to do the right thing!"
Dad: "I've only done the right thing! Don't you realize what this is all for?! This is for Nickie!"
M: "Well, my stars! *sarcastic* You've picked a mighty fine time to start caring about your son, much less this family!"
Dad: "I'm only trying to to help him have a future. I mean, look around you. This is no kind of life for...animals like us. Can you imagine a life like that for him. I want to give him something special. If the world insists on staying the same, at least he'll have something he can call his own."
N: "Why are you guys shouting?"
Dad: "Mommie and I are-" *looks back at a crossed armed disdainful wife* "...straightening things out, kiddo."
N: "Can we play?"
Dad: "Now is not the best time."
N: "Please? I'll be the robber this time."
"Nicholas, I-" *he caught himself, seizing this opportunity to be a dad and wittingly avoid the argument* "...I think that would be a fun idea." *He accepts with a loving smile*.
"I'm going to chase you down!"
N: "Catch me if you can!" *They laugh in glee*
They go outside the screen door of their back patio and we see them laughing and having a good time. When they finish:
N: "Dad, why aren't there any fox cops?
Dad: "Well, I'd like to know that too, son..."
N: "If I were a cop, I bet I'd be the BEST in all of Zootopia! I'd catch ALL the bad guys..." *eyebrows furrow at noticing dad's concerned stare* "Right, Dad?"
Dad: "...Um...well...son, let me tell you something about Zootopia. *gets on knees* I want you to remember this whenever you think you'll be anything...more: Everyone comes to Zootopia thinking anyone can be anything...well...you can't...not yet at least...Sometimes, Nick, the world will only let you be what you are...*a pause* *hand brushes his cheek* *eyebrows heavy with pain furrow*..And what are we?...]
N: *no comment, just a depressed look on his face* *they embrace*
Dad: *sighs* "I have to go away, son. For a while."
N: "When will you come back?"
Dad: "I wish I could tell you. I need to...set things right. Nicky? I hope you know, and always remember: Your father loves you...very very much *they hug again* Promise me you'll do two things son.
N: "I will."
Dad: "Always make your family proud *he looked bitter sweetly into Nick's eyes* *takes him by both forearms* and ALWAYS make things right." *piggyback's Nick and they go inside*
b. Dad's will contains a lot reserved for Nick Wilde for a theme park. Will-man reads "He says 'Live your dreams'"
7. "It's called a hustle, sweetheart"
- Nick did NOT like the idea of being out-hustled by a bunny. The way she smiled at him, nor having his word against him. He knew at any moment he could snatch that pen off of her and run for it, but he decided that it would be a lot more fun to screw around with her and thwart investigation instead. After all, he had nothing left to lose.
- He imagined Judy in a Pilates class in the Naturist club
- Started to get worried since she got a big clue and had to somehow find a way to slow her down
8. The DMV
- His eyes after to wander and he looked for the pen, he saw her cute, cotton tail and just wanted to feel it, he was always into fluffy, and she had the assets to compliment it.
- He knew Flash was getting under her skin, and thought she was cute when she gets annoyed
9. Some dialogue on the way to the Tundratown Limo Service?
10. The Fence
- He had never realized it, but he was getting a kick out of seeing her fail and it WAS a way to cover up his heartache. He thought about his mom, how she would be proud that he's doing the right thing, and how even more proud his dad would be. He started to see Judy as an opportunity rather than a target. And now there's hope, perhaps a way out of the hole of self-pity he's dug himself. She did push his buttons, especially after being called shifty and low-life, but he couldn't help but smile on the inside. Without her even knowing, she was helping Nock realize his dream - to make his family proud (not his mob family for a change).
a. Just when he thought he had put Mr. Big out of his life, they conveniently wind up in one of his limos. And seeing Raymond and Kevin was frightening. He knew he was in for trouble when they would see the rat again.
11. The Big Residence
- Nick found it impossible to push back their last memory together. He never wanted to sell the Skunk Butt Rug, but he had to do it to be able to save Wilde Times, or he'd be in deep with his own separate gang (run secretly by Raymond and Kevin's traitor brother, Alexei). And with the IRS of course.
a. Flashes back to Nick meeting Alexei in a car and handing him a wad of cash to use on the initial payment of Wilde Times, and pledged allegiance to Alexei.
"I need to know that you can be trusted. You make payment, fox, and we will protect you...but in exchange, you keep loyalty to me. Kapeche?...We will be keeping close eye on you. You're not out of woods with us...Now go."
When Nick fears that he'll lose the park, Alexei makes him a deal. Nick makes an Alexa joke somewhere in between.
Alexei will save park...with this (the skunk butt rug). You get in with him, sell him this, and you will get money." Nick accepted, but blackmailed to do it in order to pay off park debt. He had no idea what kind of rug it was until he opened the briefcase.
- [Etc.] plays out as Mr. Big describes, but then sells the rug.
- Mr. Big later kidnaps Nick and brings him back to the residence to Grandmama. Tells him it was the scent of the rug that put her in a coma, then, because he still liked Nick, wasn't going to kill him, but asked him to never return.
12. The Rainforest District
- Nick despite his fake badge felt like a real cop. He knew he could pull it off with Judy at his side.
- Nick was relieved he bs-ed his way into Manches letting them in, believing it wasn't going to work
- Manches...
