A Borg Named Hugh, a startrek: the next generation fanfic

Well, my ship crashed one day on a planet, see

There were five of us, I was number three

And I woke up there feeling beaten black and blue

Then the Enterprise crew came and beamed me aboard

They didn't seem to care that I was a Borg

Since I had no name, they went and named me Hugh.

Now they must've thought that I was quite a threat

'Cause they stuck me in a cell so I couldn't get

A message from the collective telling me what to do

They fed my systems and they studied me

And they realized that I felt lonely

Without the others, I was only Hugh.

They told me that their lives were great

And they didn't want to assimilate

Into the Borg hive mind, they would rather die

They were individuals, they could resist

They had friendships that would be missed

And they didn't call themselves "we", but rather "I".

Well, I heard that the Borg ship was coming for me

And since I had my own new identity

I could infect the others with it too

But if I had done that, they all would've died

Dr. Crusher said it would be genocide

Perpetrated by a Borg named Hugh.

Well, at first Guinan wouldn't look at me

But she talked to Geordi, and apparently

He made her see me from his point of view

I wasn't just a pawn, I had a choice

I had my own one, distinctive voice

I was no longer a Borg, my name was Hugh.

But the captain still was not convinced

I went into his ready room, and I sensed

That he had been a Borg at one time too

He told me that I had to be brutal

But I said "Resistance is not futile"

And that's when he saw not a Borg, but Hugh.

Well, Geordi and I, we beamed back down

To the lonely planet where I was found

And sure enough, my ship came with its crew

But before I left, I said to my new friends

Since I knew my freedom was about to end

"I do not want to forget that I am Hugh."

After that day, things would start to change

The other Borg were acting strange

Almost as if they had their own minds

Then we found an android named Lore

Who wanted us to team up in a war

And so we left the collective behind.

The Enterprise crew found me again

In a maze of tunnels with no clear end

They asked me to help them get on through

I told them I wouldn't get involved

'Cause this situation was all their fault

For messing with a happy Borg named Hugh.

Well, Worf and Riker came just in time

To stop a quite horrific crime

And what had to be done, I finally knew

I saved Data, then my friends were free

Now my people's future was up to me

And if we ever need a leader, I can't think of anyone better

Than a former Borg named Hugh! Now I love that name!
