As Robert finished his last gulp of scotch, he stared off at the crackling fire. The Dowager, Isobel and Lord Merton went home about an hour ago. Mary went up quite soon after dinner because she has to get up early for the milk train to get to a meeting with a potential building company, and Cora, his sweet lovely Cora, went to bed no longer than 15 minutes ago with a sweet smile after sitting talking to him for hours as Tom and Henry were discussing something to do with their car sales. He and Cora were talking about anything and everything, from sharing memories to the... news, about Viscount Astor (we called him Lord Whatshisface as we hate him because he was always rude to Cora when we first married, till I sorted him out) and his wife. He has taken a mistress and she has been taken as a mistress.
Robert finished his scotch, bade goodnight to Tom and Henry and headed upstairs. He thought about Cora's smile as she left him today to get ready for bed. He thought about her laugh at his silly jokes even if she obviously did not get them, the way she tried to make him think she did brought a smile to his face. He thought about the way she checked no one was looking as she stole a kiss from me. He thought of the way she walked upstairs and the small smile and glance back at him as she climbed up the large staircase.
He got to his dressing room, rang for Bates and got ready as quickly as possible. Once Bates had been dismissed, Robert stood by the adjoining door to check that Baxter had left his wife. He opened the door ajar. He saw her look longing out of the window and heard the soft, silvery voice of his wife humming.
"Oh, darling! That was beautiful! What tune is that?"
"Oh! Robert! I did not see you there!" she smiled then her face dropped "I, uh, made it up..." Cora seemed over nervous.
"What you looking at?" He stepped closer, closing the gap between him and his wife.
"Oh, nothing." She tilted her head back onto Robert's chest, "Let's go to bed" she smiled up at him.
They both crept into there side of the bed and cuddled close, Cora with her arm dropped lazily over her husband's stomach. Robert looked at her in awe seeing her beautiful, elegant body lay close next to his and her beautiful blue eyes close tiredly. They kissed goodnight as Cora fell into sleep. Oh. How she is beautiful he just stared at her as time went on. All he can hear is her soft breathing, the occasional snore and the quiet tick, tick of the clock. Soon enough he was asleep himself.
A/N- Hello! This is my first ever attempt at a story so I hope you enjoy! Please review and tell me what I can improve upon! Thank you and have a good day! (This chapter is Roberts point of view, if you like it enough, the second chapter will be Cora's point of view!)
