It's times like these when Maka questions her own life choices.

Light footsteps thud against the marble floor of the academy, closing in on a spot as the person to whom it belongs near the object of his suspicion: a lone closet in the corner.

Heart thudding in her chest, Maka prays to death that she doesn't get found in what has been her hiding spot for approximately a year now.

Cowering in a closet caught redhanded isn't exactly how she wanted to officially meet the person she considers the love of her life.

At this point she'd rather not meet him at all.

Swallowing, she holds her breath as the knob rattles slightly. Her eyes lock on the way it slowly turns, as if mocking her with the eventual doom about to follow.

The door opens slowly, light flittering inside her tiny hole when suddenly-

"AKUMA!"

The door shuts back resolutely. A person enters the room, she can hear fright in the trembling of his voice. Maka opens her bag readily.

"What happened?" Her heart gives a little dance at his deep voice, ever calm and smooth.

"Evans! You gotta run, man." Hiro, her classmate, says in a hurry. Maka doesn't have to see him to know he's about to pee himself. Seriously, this happens often enough you'd think they'd be used to it by now. "Ox has been akumatized! He's shooting lightning at everyone." Well, that is bad.

Maka looks down at her bag to see her Kwami, Blair already looking back at her, ready to turn her into the Grigori at her call.

"Okay." Soul Evans answers from the opposite side of the door to where she's currently bordering cardiac arrest. "I think I'll hide here. Go hide somewhere safe. I'm sure Grigori and Death Scythe are on their way."

She hears Hiro's rapid footsteps as he flees from the room. It was followed by Ox's maniacal laugh from the halls of their school. Even akumatized, he's got that annoying arrogant laugh. She'd be more than happy to take him down. Maybe even with a personal punch or two.

Tap. Tap.

Her attention was focused back to her former situation.

It came from the closet door.

"I know you're there." Soul taps the closet again. Maka's world dead stops, her blood freezing instantly. "I don't know how long you've been listening to me play or why the hell you did. I wanna burst this door open and expose you but I have to hide from that akumatized nerd. I suggest you hide just here. I bet you're a weirdo for listening to my crappy music but I doubt you wanna be a fried stalker."

She hears him walk slowly away from her hiding spot, and then the door of the school's music room opens and closes back. He's gone.

Maka slowly opens the closet, peering into the room. It's empty. She exhales loudly, feeling like she's aged at least ten years.

Blair fizzles out of her bag. "That was close, wasn't it Maka-nya?"

"He heard us because you chased after that spider!"

"Bu-tan is sorry kitty! It was just so cute!"

Maka groans, closing back the closet. She may as well transform here. "You're lucky there's an akuma. I won't be able to chew you out." Blair mews happily, completely unapologetic. "Blair, transform me!"

Light flashes from the closet. Grigori walks out, stretching her arms above her. Her light suit still glows faintly from the transformation, it still feels weird how something so trivial like a suit could give her so much power. She dusts herself. That closet seriously needs some cleaning.

"Note to self, find another hiding spot." Grigori looks at the piano at the center of the room. Soul's words flash in her mind. "'Cause there's no way I'd be able to stop coming here even if I wanted to." She's been a prisoner of his music from the first time she heard him play.

There was a scream and the sound of thunder from outside. She hopes Soul finds somewhere safe to hide. If Ox so much as hurt one of Soul's musically blessed fingers, there would be hell to pay.

With that, she runs out of the room, hoping her partner, Death Scythe, is already at the scene.
