Where It Started

XxXx

Atem knew that his time was short. He could feel it sink through his bones as he watched the destruction that lay in front of him on what was once a prosperous city.

Structures of glorious and gigantic buildings that once stood proudly laid in large clumps and clusters on the ground, soot and smoke billowing in the air. The blood red sky gleamed hauntingly in the background seeps of orange bleeding like wounds through a cloth of red dye.

Atem's scaly tail thumped nervously on the ground, hand twitching in distress at the current predicament he was faced with. Why did this have to happen?

His friends had fought bravely after the perpetrator, only to fail, as one by one they fell on his claws, their life draining as he sucked them dry of their powers.

And his lover...

Atem gritted his teeth and shook his head. He knew Heba wasn't gone, merely asleep after the humongous outburst of his destructive powers, it would take him a lot of energy to wake up again, and only Atem could make the destruction dragon, wake. The image of his lover dying in the hands of the enemy clenched at his heart painfully.

'You can't have him' his thought screamed like an alarm, enough to spring him into action.

He opened his red leathery wings, every bone that they held creaking at the whiplash as Atem dashed forward and flew. He opened his second mouth and blasted out a golden light to the smirking maniac who dare harmed everyone he held dear.

A large shriek was ripped away from the entity, nose flairing and body tensing in alarm and anger. Whipping his head, the thing roared wildly. "Who dares to defy me?!"

Atem waited for a couple moments then spoke, growling lowly as he glided haphazardly in the sky, leveling with the other infront of him. "I do, Zorc. For I do not follow your orders. You cannot control me."

The entity, named Zorc, faced the sky dragon, sleek red scales, and sharp talons glinting in the burning limelight. Zorc rumbled lowly, a scowl on his face, studying the creature facing him with such ferocity.

"You are a fool to think that you can defy me," he rumbled lowly, eyes glowing coals of anger. "You will fall by my hands."

Atem growled, defiant and challenging. "I'd like to see you try."

"Foolish sky dragon!"

The dark beast roared and raised both its mighty fist, Atem stood his ground proudly, not backing down, his second mouth opening and charging another hot white blast of energy.

Dark clumps of energy began to form in Zorc's hands.

Atem did not cower, thinking of his friends instead. Hoping that they would see each other in the future once again. Maybe in another life time, they'd forgive him for doing this, for taking away his own life.

The face of his lover showed up last in his memory, the smiling face of Heba forever embedded in his mind as he shot out the ball of pure energy to the other beast as Zorc had fired his.

'Don't forget me...'

Heba's smiling face did not fade as Atem and Zorc's power blasted them both and smouldered their bodies until they disappeared from the face of the earth, leavng behind a city of ruins and burnt ashes of citizens who once stood proudly in them.

'I love you, Heba. My destruction and keeper.'

In the heart of the city, where there lay a place untouched, was Heba, curled up in a ball, his face smothered by soot by otherwise untouched, sleeping peacefully, oblivous of the event that took his lover's life.

His body glowed brightly and his form began to sparkle, slowly disintegrating, deteriorating to keep himself safe. He would return eventually, when his beloved will return to the earth, his heart could feel it and so decided to go along with his lover.

In this ruined city, the legend of the dragons began, and a prophecy was born as years upon years passed by, the people that stumbled upon this place trying to decipher the words that the Gandora dragon left behind. No one knew what this writing meant and so it was written off as a myth as well, and eventually, it was forgotten.

Until now that is.

City of pure bloods reign

Fallen by the dark one's trick

Sky beast conquers him

Taking along his mortal form

Lover left behind

Now sleeps in a heart of a child

Where one day they'll return

To defeat evil once more

When they once again find

Their hearts shall sing with utmost joy

And then will the dragon of destruction

Awaken in its deep slumber

When the sky beast shall return
