A MESSED UP DESTINY

A STAR WARS STORY

Chapter 1

Disclaimer: Disney owns everything and I make no profit from this.

Hello there reader! Welcome to "A messed up destiny". Before we dive into chapter 1, allow me to explain what this is about. Anakin Skywalker, known as Darth Vader for the last five years, finds himself back in the time of the Clone Wars, in his old body. Filled with regret and desperate to not repeat his mistakes, Vader sets out to stop Palpatine before he becomes Emperor of the galaxy. During his journey, he'll have to resist the constant temptation of the Dark Side and fulfill his destiny by bringing true balance to the Force. Enjoy the chapter and don't forget to review my work and let me know what I can improve.

Note: This is very slightly AU. I may change small details regarding some characters and sequences of events, but it does follow the canon timeline and ending of ROTS.

Note: I know I mentioned that this project was going to come later, but I couldn't resist. Anyways, enjoy the story.

The Executor, Darth Vader's chambers, Vader's point of view:

It has been five years since the end of the Clone Wars. Things have only gotten worse from that day on. Instead of being a disrespected Jedi, I ended up being little more than a slave to both the Dark Side of the Force and my Master, the Emperor. My old friends have either died by the Clones or my own hand, the Jedi are extinct, the man who I considered family used me as a pawn and I killed my own wife, along with our unborn children. My Angel…I miss her so much. Now, I only wish I had a chance to fix things, stop myself from helping the Emperor, from killing all those people. Those younglings from the Temple still haunt me, just like the rest of my victims. If only…If only I could change their fates, if only I could go back, things would be different. I'd make sure things went differently. But there is no hope. I had my chance and I failed. I failed to keep them alive, I failed to keep my own wife safe. I disconnected from my thoughts, then mentally sighed again, overwhelmed with nothing but guilt and regret. No anger, no hate. Just guilt. I got up and entered my hyperbaric chamber, the only place I can rid myself from this horrible mask, and did my best to meditate. Instead, my nightmares engulfed me and I could do nothing other than give in.

Flashback, five years ago, Jedi Temple:

The siege of the Temple was happening. Jedi fell left and right, while walls burned and the floors were littered with bodies of both Clone Troopers and Jedi Knights. I knew it wasn't right, but I was doing it for her. I sliced down another Jedi that tried to attack me and Commander Apo approached me, hastily giving his report.

Commander Apo-Sir! The area is clear.

Vader-Good. I'll check the Council Chambers for any stragglers. In the meantime, secure the archives. We need that information.

Commander Apo-Yes, Lord Vader.

My anger continued to rise and so did my newfound powers. I quickened my pace and made my way to the chambers. Those Jedi were all blind cowards, who hid behind their sabers, afraid to face a real opponent. I entered the Council Chambers and a group of younglings came out of their hiding spots.

Youngling-Master Skywalker! There are too many of them, what are we going to do?

I reached for my lightsaber and ignited it, ready to cut them down. I couldn't do otherwise if I wanted to save Padme's life. I slashed at the nearest youngling, who happened to be the one that asked me for help, and my saber pierced his chest, killing him.

End of Flashback

When I woke up I was sweating and I was utterly terrified. I took a look around and noticed that I wasn't in my chambers anymore. I suddenly panicked, even if Sith aren't supposed to. I took a deep breath in an attempt to calm down…hold on. I took a breath? After Mustafar I couldn't take a breath without that damn respirator. I looked down and saw the most unexpected thing. I had limbs! I had both my legs and my left arm was still organic! I was shocked. I couldn't remember what it was like to walk on real legs. I…I was overjoyed! I heard a voice calling out to me, a voice I didn't want to ever hear again. It was Obi Wan Kenobi, my old Jedi master.

Obi Wan-Anakin, are you alright?

Resisting the urge to rush into the next room and cut the man in half, I took another deep breath and answered in a calm voice.

Anakin-Yeah, I'm fine.

Obi Wan slowly entered the room, looking concerned. He looked exactly like he did the last time I saw him. He had gray eyes and ginger hair, was wearing his armor and still hadn't trimmed that beard of his. He took a step in the room and spoke.

Obi Wan-I heard you scream. Are you sure nothing is going on?

Anakin-It was a stupid dream, that's all.

Obi Wan-A dream? Like the one you had with your mother?

Anakin-Do we have to talk about it?

Obi Wan-I'm sorry. That was insensitive.

Anakin-Since when are Jedi insensitive?

Obi Wan-You get my point Anakin. Anyways, do want to talk about it?

I thought about the situation I had found myself in for a moment. Apparently the Force had fulfilled my wish and gave me a chance to fix things. I decided that using this opportunity to tell him about the future without revealing anything major was a good idea, so I did my best to explain the siege of the Temple without revealing my involvement.

Anakin-The Temple was burning. We were under attack. Obi Wan, I saw the Clones. They were shooting at Jedi. They were the ones attacking us. When I walked in, there were bodies everywhere.

Obi Wan-Anakin the Clones serve the Republic.

Anakin-They do. They serve the Republic. Not the Jedi.

Obi Wan-The Republic would not turn on us.

Anakin-Maybe something happened.

Obi Wan-Don't worry. It'll be fine.

Anakin-I'll try to go back to sleep.

Obi Wan-Understood. Are you sure you are alright?

Anakin-Yeah, I'm fine Master.

Obi Wan-I'll leave you to it then. And don't lose track of time, we are landing on Christophsis in an hour.

Anakin-Copy that.

Obi Wan-I'll see you then.

Obi Wan turned and left my room, something I didn't object to. I don't think I could have kept myself calm any longer. Apparently even five years after our duel on the volcanic world of Mustafar he had the ability to irritate me with his mere presence. Desperate for answers and some sort of sign on what to do, I decided to sit down and try meditation. I had to figure out what I wanted to change and I had to do it fast. Palpatine is the most dangerous enemy the Force could have put me up against. Not only does he control an entire war, he has the entire Galactic Senate doing his bidding and also has many Dark Side users like Count Dooku at his disposal. I was in for quite the ride, even with the knowledge and power I gained as a Sith Lord. I proceeded to sit down on my soft bed, boy it was good to feel things again, and began meditating. Perhaps I could find my answers with the guidance of the Force.

Hello again. I sincerely hope you enjoyed the chapter. Before I go, I'd like to remind you than any sort of feedback is appreciated. Anyway, I'll see you in chapter 2!
