"Already 11 am, huh?" Tsunayoshi Sawada looked at the digital clock. As with most days in the past month or so, yesterday had been a late night for Tsuna, though this one was even more late. Indeed like other days also, yesterday day had been a lazy day too, with Tsuna spending the whole day playing video games, listening to music and browsing online image boards. Having graduated high school recently with great grades, allowing him to enroll into just about any university, he had resigned himself to take a year off studying or working.
This opportunity to relax and enjoy life was all thanks to Reborn. Although Tsuna made the decision not to become the leader of the Vongola Famiglia, the tutelage that Reborn pumped into him and helped Tsuna fulfill his potential. He was more confident, he had stopped ditching school, and was able to score excellent grades.
Tsuna was still groggy from the late night and considered staying in bed for just a little while longer. However, it was a terribly hot summer day and even with the air condition on, laying in bed any longer seemed like a worse prospect than getting up out of it. Tsuna released a loud groan before slowly getting himself out of bed in a way which only a really lazy person could pull off. After completing his morning tradition, which involved a little more than changing clothes and brushing his teeth in the bathroom beside his bedroom, he hurried down the stairs, having caught the pleading scent of breakfast being prepared. Or at least what Tsuna regarded as breakfast.
Upon reaching the kitchen, he was surprised to discover both of his parents having lunch. Although he was not surprised to see Iemitsu Sawada wearing his orange construction work jumpsuit. Working traffic at construction sites was his usual cover story for his actual job. So Tsuna guessed there was some Vongola business he had to attend to. Nana Sawada, on the other hand, sat in decidedly casual clothing.
"Oh, I didn't know you were back. And you're already going to 'work' again?" Tsuna yawned after absentmindedly greeting his parents.
"I was just stopping by. And I'll be back in a few days." His father replied matter-of-factly.
Tsuna lifted his eyebrow, but did not bother responding to his father's usual lie. When he said a few days, it would usually take a few months, possibly even years.
Tsuna's mother on the other hand, not knowing the truth, did. Him going away for "a week" was not welcome news for her.
"Iemitsu hun, do you have to go for that work trip? Can't you at least request your boss to let you off? Money isn't a problem, you know." Tsuna's mother asked pleadingly. But his father only shook his head and shot down his wife's idea, even if only solemnly so.
"I have asked, but due to the 'upper management' screwing up, we're about to lose 'one of our most important 'contractors'. Everyone has to put in 'an extra mile'." He assured regretfully.
This was not the first time that Nana pleaded with her husband to stay. He would usually be gone for long periods and she had no idea when she would see him next. Tsuna hated whenever this happened, and he was sure that his father felt just as guilty about lying to her. However, his father and him both agreed that she was better off not knowing the truth.
Tsuna's mother, Nana, also did not like seeing her husband anxious and overworked, and so was unwilling to let him go.
Tsuna all but tuned out, not wanting to hear from his father what he regarded as 'bullshit drivel'. His father could leave the CEDEF for all he cared.
Tsuna cringed as his parents made their goodbye kiss. If it could even be considered a normal kiss, it was more a case of his mom and dad passionately smooching each other even though he was already starting to run late for his flight to Italy.
It did not take long before she was giving an exaggerated anguished expression, as if she was seeing her husband off to fight in a war. Outwardly Tsuna continued to cringe at his parents' over the top exhibition of affection.
Not wanting to actually be late, Iemitsu and Nana had to release each other. Iemitsu gave his son a goodbye before finally leaving. With a sad gaze in her eyes Nana gazed on through the kitchen window as her dear husband walked down the long walkway on their large lawn. She exhaled.
Tsuna's eyes on the other hand were fixed on somewhere completely different. Whilst his mother was preoccupied with her emotions, he took the chance to admire his mother's slender figure. Recently, he had become more aware of how lucky his father was. Not only was Nana a kind and compassionate woman, but she was also quite beautiful on the outside.
Tsuna kept gazing at his mother with his eyes for a good while before she turned away from the window, rose up and began putting the dishes away. This did however not discourage Tsuna from watching on, though he did make certain to make it less obvious. If only he could have a girlfriend like his mom.
By this point, having realized futile this desire was, Tsuna decided it was probably time to just pack up and return to his bedroom. Just as he had gotten up from his chair and started heading towards the staircase, his mother stepped right in front of him with quite the stern and unpleasant expression on her face. Or on second thought; from Tsuna's perspective it was actually very pleasant to look at her face given that his mother was quite beautiful. But the expression was nonetheless stern. Stern and maybe even scary.
Tsuna, however, knowing his mom far too well, was not the least bit scared.
"And where do you think you're going young man?" Nana puffed at him.
Tsuna replied bluntly:
"To my bedroom."
Nana's stern look changed into what seemed like a pout rather than something furious or authoritative.
"Yesterday you promised to assist me in cleaning the new pool, remember? I know it's tiresome but it just takes a few minutes, and it's great exercise too." Nana said.
Tsuna had no interest in cleaning the pool, but he was willing to do anything that would please his mother.
"Sure, l'll do it." Tsuna said with a smile.
"Thank you, sweetie!" His mother chirped in an overly cheerful manner.
The old Tsuna would not have agreed to it without twenty more proddings. Nana used to worry a lot about her son succeeding in life. She did not expect him to get into a good college either. However, he suddenly turned over a new leaf. From being a cowardly, reluctant, and lazy boy, he had developed into a courageous, responsible, and hard-working young man. Not only that, but recently he had been willing to do chores that he never liked doing. She was sure he still did not like doing them, but his willingness to do them anyway was what Nana took as a sign of her son's growing maturity. He had become a man any woman would be delighted to have as her boyfriend. Not that Nana did not love his dad, but if Tsuna was not her son and she had met him while she was single, she knew she would certainly date him if he asked her out. Perhaps it was her motherly pride and bias making her think that, but her son was the only one there to ease her loneliness while his father was absent. In fact in the span of her marriage, she had spent more time with Tsuna than she did with Iemitsu. He had in sense become like a second husband. She was definitely going to miss him a lot when he would eventually have to leave her behind to go pursue his university and career. Just thinking about it was making her feel depressed.
Tsuna made his way past the kitchen and the living room to the garage. After spending a couple of minutes searching, he found the cabinet with the skimmer net and other pool-cleaning tools and finally made his way to the luxurious swimming pool. After spending a lot of time cleaning, he placed the cover back on, kept the tools back and returned inside to tell his mom of the completed task. After searching around he found her in her room filing some kind of paperwork.
"I'm done!" Tsuna announced.
"That's wonderful!" His mom complimented him with a wide and encouraging smile.
"So why do you care about the pool all of a sudden?" Tsuna thought out loud.
"Well, the summer is in full swing silly, it'd be a waste not to use it."
Tsuna nodded.
She continued, "Well I was actually planning on taking a dip with your dad, but well... now it seems like I'll have to do it alone." She told her son wistfully.
"He'll return in no time, don't worry." Tsuna responded unconfidently in an attempt to cheer her up.
"Oh, I hope so!" His mother smiled at him. "Oh and thank you for the help, just tell me if there's something you want okay hun?".
"Uh sure." Tsuna nodded and returned to his bedroom.
It was noon, when in the middle of playing some video games, an idea sprung up in Tsuna's head. He recalled that his mother told him about her plans on taking a dip in the pool. With this he realized that his mother was more than likely going to be wearing a swimsuit. He had no picture of that in his recent memory. The conclusion wrote itself, he had to watch.
