*Intense Static*
Serena has never felt so powerless in her fourteen years of life. She fought with everything she had, and yet...
As the blast from Starve Venom Fusion Dragon's final attack began chipping down her LP, memories of her friends began to resurface in Serena's mind.
"Reiji.."
The leader of the Lancers, the one who gave her the chance to atone for her sins as a soldier of Academia. She truly wanted to be with him and her other comrades comrades when they finally ended Academia's tyranny, but..
"Gongenzaka.."
She didn't really get a chance to know the guy, but as one of her Lancer friends, Serena had a great deal of respect towards him and his patience, persistence and loyalty to his friends.
"Sawatari.."
She has always thought that he was too useless to be a Lancer, for he seemed to be all bark and no bite. But as she grew to know him better, she could see him as the daring and confident boy he truly was,and she was able to respect him more that way.
"Tsukikage.."
The ninja has sworn to protect her ever since they met in the Standard Dimension, even if it meant sacrificing his own life. He was the one who helped her evade Academia at first when they invaded Synchro, and right now, she wanted to thank him for everything. Only she couldn't..
"Reira.."
Serena has always found the kid very weird. He was too quiet, afraid of almost everything around him. But when they met after her Duel in the Friendship Cup, he was a completely different person. He even helped her overcome Roget's Security men. She was grateful to him. She truly was..
"Kurosaki.."
When they first met, Kurosaki couldn't trust her simply for being from Fusion. She couldn't blame him, though, after what Academia had done to his home. But since the two were on the same side, they eventually came to think of each other as comrades. Right now, Serena wondered if whatever was going to happen to her was the same thing that happened to his sister, Ruri.
"Yuuya.."
At first, Serena could only see Yuuya's Entertainment Dueling philosophy as laughable. After all, she was taught that Dueling was a way to stay alive in a world full of war. But spending time with him and the other Lancers taught her that even in the midst of trouble, you can still smile and have fun.
The mention of Yuuya, however, brought up one particular name that filled Serena with warmth and longing. The name of her very first friend..
"Yuzu.."
Yuzu was someone she could call a sister. She was the one who opened her eyes to the truth about Academia. She even went as far as acting as bait, just to let Serena meet Kurosaki and find out more. When she disappeared from Standard, Serena vowed to find her and thank her for everything she did to her.
But she failed.
She couldn't repay Yuzu, she couldn't stay to help the Lancers, and who knows if she'll ever see them again. She might just end up carded or sent back to Academia and punished for treason-
"Wow, that was actually an interesting game.." Yuuri mockingly began, cutting off Serena's thoughts with slow, sarcastic claps as he walked over to her sprawled form "I mean, none of my prey has ever lasted that long. It's a true shame the Professor needs you, otherwise you would've made a great addition to my card collection."
"If you're not going to card me, then what will you do?" Serena groaned weakly, barely sitting up and shooting Yuuri a look of utter contempt and hate, which he returned with a sadistic sneer.
"Nothing." Yuuri simply replied "I'll just send you home, since I have some...work to do here."He then typed in some command on his Duel Disk which formed an awfully familiar blue glow around Serena.
"No.." She thought. She can't go home now. All this fighting..it..it couldn't end like this. She didn't cross dimensions just to be sent back to the prison-like Academia once more.
"Goodbye!~" Yuuri sang, waving his hand as the blue glow enveloped Serena's entire body.
The last things she could make out were his malevolent grin and someone shouting her name, and then everything went completely white..
And she was home.
*flops on the couch, face completely painted black and blue from the earlier..quarrel..with Serena* Aaaaaaahhh! Finally done!!*reads the whole thing to realise it was probably less than 1k words and inhales...*
