Hey what's up you guys? GiLaw here.

So yeah, here's a new (sort of) fic! Topic wise, it's nothing new (yeah, I owe Antauri and Zane an apology), but this is for a new and very underrated show!

Monsuno is really interesting. I discovered it by accident about a month or two ago browsing anime theme songs. It got my attention really quickly, mainly because of its AMAZING theme song. Also because Jinja looks like one of my OCs, but that's another story for another day.

Part of this from the need to be creative during quarantine. This is also kind of an excuse for to write . . . acceptable(?) Jinja x Dax moments. No offence to Beyal or anyone who ships Jinja x Beyal, but Jinja x Dax gives me Spova vibes X'D.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the fanfic!

Anesthesia

Chase Suno and his crew had certainly been some strange and adrenaline pumping adventures along their journey to find his father, Jeredy Suno.

Friends had been made, as well as enemies, all while gaining Monsuno Cores and using them to battle the evil S.T.O.R.M.

But out of all the battles Chase and his friends had faced, their most recent one had been . . . eventful to say the least.

Actually, it wasn't so much battle as it was the aftermath of that particular battle.

It had started out as a normal day, Chase and his group walking down the street searching for his dad (and catching some much needed time off away from S.T.O.R.M), but finding it hard to focus over the growl of hungry stomachs. Chase, Bren and Dax all agreed to get something to eat, Jinja had scoffed at them for being so hungry all the time, but then quickly changed her mind when Beyal gave some wise words along the line of fueling the body to fuel the mind.

To which Jinja had swooned over how clever he was and Dax snickered, proudly announcing that he would know what to say next time they brought up the subject of food, leading to the daily argument between the two of them, which was only broken by Chase hastily asking them if they wanted hot dogs or noodles.

The group had only just finished their hot dog feast (with Chase and Bren challenging each other to see who could eat theirs in one go before ordering a second) before they were (rudely) interrupted by S.T.O.R.M leader Commandant Marshall Charlemagne and Commander Trey (an interruption that had made Bren choke violently on his second hot dog), leading to what initially seemed to be another regular fight when everyone pulled out their Cores and aimed them towards the middle of the road.

"Lock!"

"Quickforce!"

"Charger!"

"Glowblade!"

"Airswitch!"

"Driftblade!"

"Clipper!"

"LAUNCH!"

The Cores were launched and the Monsuno were all released, growling, hissing or screeching furiously, ready for a fight. As always, Lock took the lead, slashing straight at Driftblade who defended himself by using a Strike Bolt to engulf the polar bear Monsuno in lightning- a move that would have been fatal if Quickforce hadn't rammed Driftblade in his side, knocking over the giant lion.

"Thanks!" Chase had grinned giving his friend Bren the thumbs up to which Bren had smiled back, quietly proud of himself.

Meanwhile, Airswitch had used a Restraining Siege to take Clipper "flying" (much to Dax's amusement) while Glowblade was ready with an Electric Barrage to shoot Clipper back down before he could get back up. And Driftblade was quickly back on his feet, shaking off Quickforce's attack and charging furiously at Chase and Bren, only to be interrupted by Charger who rammed at his head where the two began to wrestle.

"Ram him, Charger!" Jinja cheered, standing close behind her Monsuno to offer him some words of encouragement. Over on the other side, Charlemagne laughed, flicking her blonde fringe over her eye.

"You can hold him off for as long as you like! I'll finish you and your Suno friend!"

"Try us, Charlemagne!" Jinja jeered, taking a step forward. "It's five against two and you're both getting worked!"

As if on queue behind Charlemagne, Clipper received another blow, this time from one of Airswitch's sharp claws. Trey grunted, his grip around his Core tightening as he watched the energy levels drop.

"Commandant-"

"Driftblade!" Charlemagne belted.

"Charger!" Jinja shouted back, ready to give him a command to fend off whatever attack Charlemagne had planned when the two Monsuno suddenly skidded off each other from the built up friction and Jinja realized how dangerously close she had been standing to them. She went to step back, but Driftblade stomped right in her path. He wasn't even aiming for her; he swerved back round to deal with Charger, but it was so swift and so close, that Jinja barely had any time to dodge the swinging metal shoulder blade. All of a sudden, her legs seemed to give up on her completely and her body lurched backwards and the boys all cried out her name. She scrunched up her eyes, ready to fall hard on the road, but something- no someone caught her before she could fall completely and lay her down gently on the ground. Jinja blinked and felt herself hit with a sudden wave of exhaustion.

"What-"

"Easy, princess."

Oh, it was Dax who had caught her. For a moment, she thought it was Beyal. That would have been nice.

Her natural instinct was to say something snappy at him, but she felt the all energy being drained out of her and she didn't even know why. She hadn't felt Driftblade slash her.

Jinja suddenly sat up (briefly, it was all she could manage) when she realized how wet and sticky the ground felt underneath her. Her torso on the right side was beating like a pulse. Jinja's eyes swiveled down and widened in horror when she saw the massive gaping wound in her side gushing like a fountain, forming a thick red puddle on the floor and dyeing her sky blue jacket a deep crimson red, almost deathly black.

But she hadn't even felt Driftblade slash her.

No wait, there it was. A stinging pain, subtle at first but growing worse by the millisecond to intolerable levels (and beyond). It made Jinja grit her teeth in agony.

"Jinja!" Chase cried. He, Bren and Beyal were all sitting over her, concern etched over their faces. "Jinja, are you okay?"

Even with the shock, the agony and that overwhelming exhaustion, Jinja had just enough energy to open her eyes, seal that eye contact with Chase and scream "Do I look okay to you?"

Somehow, screaming made her wound sting even more (if that was even possible), prompting another pained groan.

Chase was quick to stand to his feet. "We gotta get you to a hospital." He looked around for some form of help when Charger approached the group and bowed for his controller, Jinja, offering his conveniently shaped antlers for her to lay on. In the intensity of the situation, Jinja couldn't help but give him a weak smile.

"Ada boy, Charger."

Chase nodded and glanced back at Lock who had slammed Driftblade with a Grappling Blast before he could do any further damage.

"Lock! Keep them busy!"

Lock had enough time to look at his controller and nod obediently before returning to Driftblade and continuing to fight. While the Monsuno were occupied with each other, Chase and Dax took Jinja up by either side and carried over to rest on one of Charger's giant antlers. They took care not to hurt her, but that proved impossible since she seemed to be nearly cut in half. Each one of their small careful movements only aggravated the stinging pain of Jinja's gaping wound. She shut her eyes, biting her bottom lip hard to keep herself from screaming in front of everyone, but the pain was so intense, so unbearable that she could feel herself nearly biting off her lip.

"You're going to be alright, Jinja," she heard Beyal reassure her from below. That soothed her a little, and she relaxed as Dax and Chase lay her down neatly onto Charger's antler.

"I'll come with her," Chase said, leaping over onto Charger's other antler.

"Alright, Suno."

Jinja was too exhausted to try and open up her eyes again, but with that hesitant tone, Dax sounded reluctant to leave. No wait, she sensed him jumping off.

Probably knew that there was no time for arguing and stalling.

She didn't really have time to think about it right now, taking deep breaths to stay alive. She felt Charger rising, and again, it was those little movements that really made her wound sting. Making straining noises, she clung onto the antlers with both hands as tight as she possibly could (which wasn't very tight, given how weak she was). But holding onto something did make it sting a little less as Charger raced off seeking the nearest hospital.

That was what led to the next . . . unusual event.

Following the excursions of that crazy battle, Chase sat by himself in a hospital waiting room, waiting in anticipation, playing around with his empty Core. On being taken in by the paramedic, Jinja had only enough strength to order Charger to return to his Core. Chase knew all too well how strong willed and determined Jinja was, and they had done well to get her to a hospital so quickly, but at the same time, he still felt that horror seeing Driftblade slice through her like butter.

He had been in the hospital for well over two hours now, and he wasn't enjoying it to say the least. Mostly because of the long infuriating wait, but partly because of the weird looks most of the people in the waiting room were giving him. Or lack of looks. Most of them were trying not to stare like he was an alien or something.

'Didn't know coming to hospital on a giant moose wasn't allowed,' Chase thought to himself, trying to think of something somewhat funny to take his mind off the situation.

He suddenly heard a roar outside and stood to his feet immediately, almost ready to pull out another Core in case Charlemagne and Trey had defeated the rest of his crew and tracked him down too. It was quite the sigh of relief when he saw Lock waiting for him outside with Bren, Beyal and Dax sitting unharmed on his back.

"Lock!" he cheered, racing straight out to reunite with his Monsuono, waving happily at his friends who slid off Lock's back to meet him. Lock grumbled in satisfaction, cocking his head at Chase who raised his Core at him.

"Return."

It was a simple everyday command, but something about feeling Lock's energy back inside that Core reminded Chase about how dear the Monsuno was to him. He smiled slightly at his Core, a smile that quickly dropped when he looked back up at Bren, Beyal and Dax. Immediately, he could see on their faces that they all had the same question in mind.

How's Jinja?

"Hard to tell," Chase murmured, rubbing the back of his head with his hand. "Got there quickly. She still had some energy when the paramedics took her in. I guess it's just a waiting game."

"Jinja will be fine," Beyal said, quietly confident in his words. "She's strong. She wouldn't even let something like this bring her down."

"Well at least one of us is sure!" Bren chuckled feebly.

"What's the story with S.T.O.R.M?" Chase was kind of curious (the team was intact after all and Lock had all his strength) but more than anything else, he just needed a distraction.

Dax pulled a face. "Retreated when they realized they were losin'. Typical of 'em."

"Right." Chase couldn't act like he was surprised himself.

"Chase?"

Chase stiffened at his name being called. His green eyes brightened at the bizarre thought that maybe, just maybe it might be his dad calling him. He whipped around only to see that it was nothing more than an ordinary doctor. Even then, it wasn't that disappointing. He just hoped the news would be good as he raced up to meet him.

"How's my friend?"

The doctor was wearing a medical mask that covered the bottom half of his face so Chase couldn't see if he was smiling or not. But his eyes looked happy . . . at least Chase hoped so.

"You'll be glad to know-"

Thank God.

"The gash wasn't as deep as we initially thought. No vital organs or blood vessels were damaged, meaning she only required a stitch up."

"Really?!" Chase exclaimed, feeling that heavy weight of anticipation whoosh off his shoulders and his body lightening with relief and excitement. "That's great! So can we-"

"Now-"

"See, Glasses?" Dax smirked. "No need for all that worryin' now, was there?"

The doctor raised a finger. "There is-"

Bren let out a false exaggerated laugh. "I wasn't worried! I knew Jinja would pull through!"

"Excuse me!" the doctor interrupted, making the boys stop and listen obediently. "You can go in and see her."

"Okay! Let's go!" Bren grinned, marching up, only for Chase to stop him with his arm.

"What's the catch?" he asked suspiciously.

The doctor's eyelids lowered sternly. "We had to give her a high dose of anesthesia. She is awake . . . but she may seem disorientated or say some unusual things."

"Oh," was all Chase could manage. Bren snickered behind him and Dax stuck his hands in his pockets, frowning as if to say "Is that it?"

"Then we will proceed with great care," Beyal said calmly and Bren looked back at him, his face shifting into a much more serious one to agree with him. This seemed to satisfy the doctor and he made a "Come with me" gesture with his fingers for Chase, Bren, Beyal and Dax to follow.

Jinja was lying in a hospital bed when they arrived, all by herself, toying around with her Core. She didn't seem too bad when the boys entered. If anything, compared to her state from that battle, she looked rather well. But the doctor flashed Chase, Bren, Beyal and Dax a warning look as they approached her, closing the door behind them very slowly and (eventually) leaving the group together, finally back in tact.

"Now remember," Beyal said, soft but firm. "We must be gentle with her. She's only just recovering from her operation and we have no idea how she might react."

The other three nodded quietly in agreement and Chase led, slowly nearing her bed. She hadn't noticed them since they had first come in. Chase would have thought that after such an intense battle, being stitched up and God knows what else, she would be thrilled to finally be reunited with the group.

"Jinja, how are you-"

Chase was interrupted by Jinja letting out a wail that echoed around the hospital room and made the boys all cover their ears.

"What's wrong?" Chase asked startled, immediately stepping over to the bedside.

Jinja looked up at him and that's when Chase saw it.

Her eyes were opened up large and wide, but her actual pupils were lost in a world of their own. Her mouth drooped. The rest of her body was limp as her head dropped with a soft thud back on the pillow and she raised her Core weakly like it weighed a thousand kilograms. She let out another quieter wail.

"Are you-"

"The reindeer is trapped in the jar!"

Chase's jaw dropped.

"What?"

"The reindeer!" Jinja raised the Core, taking a big deep croaky breath. "It's trapped in the jar!"

"Yup, she's high," said Dax, folding his arms across his chest.

"Okay," said Chase, not really sure how to react. Out of all the things for Jinja to say, he definitely hadn't expected . . . well . . . that.

"So . . ."

"How do you open it?"

"What?"

"The reindeer!" Jinja shrieked in another pitchy wail, making the boys wince.

"That's . . ." Chase raised an arm, not sure whether to take the Core off her or not. "That's not a reindeer."

Jinja looked straight up at him, surprising for how feeble she looked. Her mouth hung open in disbelief.

"Whaaa?"

Bren snorted.

"It's nooooot?" Jinja stared at her Core like she had never seen one in her life before.

"That's . . . your Monsuno," Chase said slowly, realizing he was probably going have to explain everything to her like a little kid.

"Monsuno?"

"Ye- yeah."

Jinja blinked very slowly. She looked at her Core. She looked back at Chase. She stared blankly at the opposite wall with another slow sluggish blink.

"Open it!" she shrieked, suddenly raising her arm to throw it, triggering a chorus of "NOOOOO!" from the boys, Chase lunging for the Core before she could launch a Monsuno in a small hospital room out of all places.

"I'll hold onto this," he laughed uneasily, quickly stuffing the Core in his pocket while Jinja stared blankly at him, processing what he had just done. Chase tightened his lips, knowing that any other time she probably would have tried to snatch it back or give him a snarky comment. But she just let her head drop back on the pillow, her hands flopping down either side of the bed. A small, weak but childish smile spread across her face. She let out a giggle.

"My name is Beckyyyyyy."

Chase has to bring his hand to his mouth to stop laughing. Dax's mouth dropped into a shocked but very amused smile. Beyal's face crumpled in pity. Bren nearly collapsed trying to contain his laughter.

"Bren!" Chase hissed, even though he was struggling himself.

"Okay!" Bren wheezed, forcing himself to stand properly. Jinja was watching him intently now, letting out another giggle.

"My name is BEEEEE-"

Bren couldn't hold in the laughter any longer and let out a roar, and Chase and Dax had to laugh too, earning themselves an unimpressed glare from Beyal and a disorientated smile from Jinja who seemed to be enjoying having an audience. She didn't even seem to mind when Bren pulled out his tablet and raised it towards her.

"What are you doing?" asked Chase, snickering. His laughter slowly faded away when he saw Bren aiming the tablet in Jinja's direction.

Bren had to breathe deeply to control himself and speak properly. "She's not gonna believe us if we tell her she said all this!"

"Oh!" Chase laughed, but this time it was an uncertain one. "Good luck with that!"

"Hey Jinja!" Bren called, somehow getting Jinja to focus on him through whatever she was on. "Jinja, do you know you're crazy?"

"YES," she answered proudly.

Bren snickered, shaking his head at the insanity at the situation. At this point, he was the only one who seemed amused. Beyal had been neutral from the start, Chase had stopped laughing since he had pulled out the tablet and even Dax seemed to have gotten over the situation.

"Ya know she's gonna whoop you for this."

"It's only evidence if she doesn't believe us," Bren said, smirking.

Dax rolled his eyes with a "don't say I didn't warn you" look on his face when he suddenly noticed Jinja staring at him. She had a very peculiar grin on her face, one they hadn't seen since they had first entered the hospital room. It was wide, somewhat mischievous, and it made Dax scowl a little.

"What?"

Jinja's grin grew wider.

"Has anyone ever told you you're reeeeeeal nice?"

Dax's normally relaxed eyes widened a little. He glanced at Beyal who was standing next to him looking equally stunned, then back at Jinja who still had that weird grin on her face.

"You talkin' to me or Monkfish?"

Jinja heaved a heavy hand up, trying to point at one of them, which only made it more confusing because she didn't have the strength to hold her hand in one place long enough to clarify who she was pointing at.

"Ehh! You!"

"Who?"

"The black one!"

WOW.

"Jinja," Beyal whispered even quieter and politer than usual. "Dax and I are both . . ."

"Noooooo." Jinja rolled her head very slowly all the way around the hospital room before staring right at Beyal, the love of her life.

"You're white," she said.

Beyal blinked, taken aback by how firm she sounded. "Jinja, I'm . . ."

"YOU'RE WHITE!" she screeched.

"Okay," Beyal whispered, deciding to take the pacifist approach and agree with her while trying to ignore Bren who was still tittering to himself.

Next thing, Jinja heaved herself up, lifting herself up right hip first, showing that the painkillers were definitely working since that was where she had received the gash. She flopped her legs out in front of her and dragged her floppy head with her like a zombie as she stood up with a giggle. Her eyes were fixated on Dax who blinked uncertainly and took a step back.

"Ohh, she's up!" cried Bren who had been recording the incident for a while now, probably with no intention of stopping, showing again that Jinja was clearly out of her mind if she didn't care she was being recorded.

And it was a further sign she was totally high with that goofy look she was giving Dax right now.

"Whatcha want?" he demanded. For Dax, flirting was all fun and games until SHE started hitting on him.

Jinja suddenly stumbled and Dax instinctively caught her under the arms and hoisted her up, which wasn't easy because her legs and feet had died on her. Not that it seemed to bother Jinja. She just threw her arms around Dax's neck and thrust her head back, letting out a mad little cackle.

Dax pulled a face. "What's so funny?"

Jinja inhaled loud and deep as if it was the funniest thing in the world and hauled her head back over. It landed hard on Dax's shoulder. She raised her eyes dreamily at him and her hand slid down his chest.

"Nice catch," she breathed.

Dax's already dark cheeks tinged darker as he pulled Jinja's hand away from his chest, only for her to throw it back around his shoulder. Jinja feeling him up was already bad enough sober and he certainly didn't need her feeling him up stoned.

"You're delirious, princess."

He kept having to hoist her up because her feet had stopped working and she kept slipping down on him. Tutting to himself, Dax wrapped his arms tight around her waist, taking special care around her right side. Not that Jinja seemed to mind. She rested her head happily on his shoulder, making cooing noises as she hugged him.

"You're cuuuuute."

Dax raised his eyebrows and went to say something when out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Bren holding the tablet in his direction.

"Oi! Glasses!" he snapped, turning over so he could give him a good death glare. "You better switch that thing off or I'll-"

Before he could finish, Jinja was kissing his cheek.

Actually it wasn't so much kissing as it was her trying to eat his face.

She really smothered him.

It triggered another big laugh from Chase (who had been doing so well to hold himself together since the tablet had come out), it got Beyal blushing, slowly clasping his hands over his mouth from the mortification and it had Bren absolutely reeling with a screech of "OH NO!"

Dax gritted his teeth and grabbed Jinja by the hair to pull her away, but Jinja had suddenly found her strength and was gripping on tight with her arms, making Dax stumble under her weight. Any other time, he probably would have loved a kiss from her, but not in this state and definitely not in front of everyone else with Bren recording. He finally managed to free himself from her, Jinja's lips making a sloppy wet pop and leaving an even darker spot on Dax's cheek.

She was gasping for breath between strokes of laughter. "That was FUUUUUN!" She gave him a wild eyed look. "Let's do it again!"

"Right! You're going back to bed!" Dax hoisted her well up so her head and arms flopped over his shoulder and her feet drooped, barely touching the floor, allowing him to carry her over.

"Ah nooooo," she moaned.

Ignoring her protests, Dax practically tossed her back onto the bed, her limp body making her surprisingly bouncy. It only made her laugh more and she let out a "Weeeee!"

Dax sniffed, wiping the wet patch on his cheek. He pointed at Jinja with her body sprawled out the wrong way on the bed and then the pillow. "Get in."

She gave him that wide unsettling grin again. "Are you going to tuck me in?"

"NOPE!"

With that, Dax whipped around and stormed down, ignoring Jinja's calls for him of "Go oooonnn" behind him as he passed his other three teammates.

"Turn that bloody thing off!"

"Okay," Bren murmured to himself, finally putting the tablet down. "Uhh, bye Jinja," he added, flickering a small wave goodbye, which was really pointless because Jinja was lolling about on the bed, gazing up at the white ceiling.

"Jinjaaaaa . . ." she droned, still giggling. "Jinja ninja . . . Jinja ninja!"

With Dax and Bren gone, Chase glanced over at Beyal. "Do you think we should . . .?" He didn't even know what to suggest, let alone do.

"JINJA NINJA!"

"I think she would most certainly benefit from some time by herself," Beyal said wisely. "Sometimes time is all one needs to recover from these things."

Chase nodded. He couldn't agree more. He glanced at Jinja and would have said goodbye if she was paying attention, but she was now trying to heave herself to bounce on the bed. She could definitely use some alone time. So he just waved and quietly left the room with Beyal.

The boys spent another hour in the much quieter waiting room. Chase lay back in his chair, much happier to have some proper company. Bren played around with his tablet. Beyal sat cross legged on the floor in meditation. Dax was sitting opposite Chase, rubbing the dark spot on his cheek. He had gone from storming out of the hospital room in a huff to sitting there with the most suggestive smirk on his face, like he wanted to go back in for more. It made Chase shake his head to himself with a small smile on his face.

God, this had been a weird day.

He looked over at Bren who was playing around on his tablet with his own wicked grin etched to his face.

"I hope you're not putting that on the Internet," he warned.

"I'm not!" Bren cried.

"Bren-"

"I'm not!" he insisted. "It is kinda funny. And we're not gonna see her again like this for a long time."

"See me again like what?"

"Jinja!" the boys all exclaimed in unison, standing to see Jinja standing proudly at the waiting room entrance back in her signature blue jacket, eyes gleaming, hands on hip, ready to leap into another adventure.

"What's up?" she asked cheerfully.

Chase exhaled a happy sigh and went to hug his friend when she raised a hand, signalling him to stop and pointed to her right side.

"Doctor says I can't hug 'till the stitches heal."

"Oh." Chase pulled back, slightly disappointed, but seeing his friend in such good condition quickly erased that feeling. Behind him, Dax snorted. Even though it was subtle, Jinja still heard. She glared at him and immediately noticed the dark spot on his cheek.

"What happened to you?" she asked suspiciously.

Chase, Beyal and Bren all stiffened and stared at Dax, secretly praying to God that he wouldn't say anything stupid that would provoke another attack.

But Dax just shrugged it off. "Bruise from the Charlemagne fight," he muttered casually.

Bren snorted.

"What?" Jinja demanded, turning her glare to him. When none of them replied, it only made her more suspicious. She glared at Chase.

"What happened while I was out?"

"You . . . don't remember anything?" Bren asked, trying not to smirk.

"No . . ." said Jinja slowly. "All I remember is arriving with Chase and Charger at the hospital. Rest is a mess. Doctor says he had to put me on lots of painkillers and stuff." She suddenly stiffened as she put the pieces together.

"I didn't say anything weird, did I?"

"NO!" lied Chase unconvincingly.

"Nope!" said Dax, avoiding eye contact with her.

Beyal tucked his chin between his shoulders and squeaked "no!"

Jinja's eyes were on Bren who slowly raised the tablet, ignoring the horrified look on Chase's face that urged him "don't do it." But even Bren by this time had realized that he may have made the most fatal mistake of his whole life.

"What did I say, Bren?" Jinja demanded, stepping up to him in a very threatening manner.

Bren hid his face behind his tablet. "Do you really want to see?"

Jinja grabbed the tablet off him.

Bren hid his face in his hands.

Jinja pressed the tablet.

And that's why Chase and his crew had to spend the rest of their day in the hospital waiting for Bren to get over his concussion.

And there you go! Like I said, I'm VERY new to Monsuno so hopefully everyone's in character. I certainly hope you all enjoyed the story (and that people actually read this because this has such a small fandom).

In the meantime for any of my followers, I definitely recommend that you check out this show. It's a lot of fun.
