Takes place just after Timephoon!

Dewey's POV:

You could hear a pin drop when Mom came down to breakfast.

Life in the manor had resumed as usual this morning, even after the crazy time travel adventures of last night. We could all tell that Louie felt bad about the trouble he caused, & we were all doing our best to show him that everything was ok.

But now, Scrooge buried his head in his newspaper (seriously, who even reads those anymore?), Beakley was quietly stirring her porridge, Webby looked like she was contemplating the quickest escape route, Huey was very neatly spreading jam on his toast...& Louie looked as if he was trying to will the earth to swallow him whole.

There was only one thing to do.

"So, who wants to hear about Webby's & my crazy time travelling adventure?" I asked, breaking the silence.

No answer, but I didn't let that stop me.

"The time? 1988."

"1969." Webby corrected.

"1969! That's what I meant." Webby rolled her eyes at me. "The place? Um..."

"Duckburg?" Webby supplied, with an unspoken duh at the end.

"Yeah, but not at first. Where were we when we first arrived?"

"Oh." She paused. "I'm not sure. It was kinda the middle of nowhere."

I can work with that. "The place? The middle of nowhere! Lost, alone, with no way back..." I saw Louie sink even further into his char. "We'd soon find out that we actually weren't alone, & that a way back was actually within our grasp."

Everybody was paying attention to me now.

"See, it happened like this..."

ZAP!

In a flash, Webby & I found ourselves in another place & another time...but it mostly looked like the desert.

"Where are we?" Webby asked.

"Actually, I think the question is, when are we?" I corrected.

She groaned. "Don't start that again."

"...So...what do we do now?"

"We can't just stay out here. We need to find food & shelter." She looked around. "Look! There's some smoke up ahead!"

"So?"

"C'mon. Smoke usually means people."

"Who do you think it is?" I asked Webby once we drew closer. "Cowboys? Indians? Pioneers?"

"I don't know, but let's not get too close. Try to observe them without them seeing us."

"We're in the middle of the desert! How are we supposed to do that?" Webby shushed me, & we stayed still, just beyond the glow of the campfire.

They were hippies.

Two boys, one played guitar & one played a hand drum, while the girl sang & danced around the campfire...until she stopped & looked right at us.

"Hello!" she called. "Come join us in our celebration!"

Webby & I looked at each other & came to an unspoken agreement. Stay alert.

"Hi, I'm Webby!" Webby said as we approached. "What are we celebrating?"

"We're celebrating the day's journey, & that we will soon be with others whose energy flows in the same direction." the girl said. "I'm Sunburst. This is Saturn & Oak." The guitar player & drummer nodded in turn.

"What brings you here? Are you travelling the same path that we are?"

"I don't know, Sunny. They look like squares to me." Saturn said, setting his guitar aside.

"Um...well, we're kind of lost..." I said.

"We are all lost, until we are found." Oak said, tapping out a rhythm as he spoke.

There was an awkward pause. "Oh, & I'm Dewey, by the way..." I said, as I realized I hadn't introduced myself.

Sunburst's eyes lit up. "Like the morning dew that blesses the grass each morning?"

"Uh...yeah...ok...Let's go with that."

"See, Saturn? They are on our path. Maybe they're even heading to the festival too!"

"What festival?"

"Only the biggest festival of peace, love, & harmony that's ever been attempted."

Webby & I glanced at each other, then shrugged. We didn't know what they were talking about. Saturn rolled his eyes.

"Man, we're going to Duckstock!"

The book cover will be coming soon! I'm just waiting for my muse to strike…lol
