It was Christmas Eve in 2001. Ginny was nervously pacing the length of her living room. Harry was late. He was supposed to get home at 8:30. It was now 11:00. She had put Teddy to be an hour ago and had been trying to find something to distract herself from Harry. She eventually sat down to read A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot. Every time she heard a noise, she looked up at the fire, half expecting Harry to floo in any second.
Finally, at 11:30, Harry appeared and walked out of the fireplace. She immediately rushed forward to embrace him.
"What the hell took you so long?"
"The Auror that was supposed to escort a prisoner got cursed on a raid earlier and is in St. Mungo's so Ron and I had to go instead."
"Let me guess, Dung"
"Right in one"
Ginny went on to explain that when Harry hadn't showed up, she had called his boss via Floo powder. When the Auror refused to tell her anything except that Harry was gone on Ministry business, she had sent him a Howler. Harry teased her about how he'd be in huge trouble the next day when he went in to work. When he asked how he responded to the Howler, she explained that he had threatened to call security if she didn't leave his fire instantly. Ginny had, knowing that it wasn't an empty threat, when Ron had once been hours late going home, Hermione had done the same thing. Only Hermione didn't back down, and he actually did call security, who made sure Hermione wouldn't be revisiting by, with the help of a member at the Floo department, disconnecting the fire at her house from the fire in the Head Auror's office.
"Well, old Thicknesse is really easy to get to. It's no wonder Lucius Malfoy was able to Imperius him"
"Well, I'm going to bed"
"Wait, Gin, I have a question for you"
"What is it?"
He pulled out the ring. "Marry me?"
"OMG yes, yes, yes, yes."
Her screaming woke up Teddy, who was three years old.
"What's wrong?''
"Nothing, Teddy"
Then Teddy saw Harry, "Harry, where were you?," he asked while Harry swept him into his arms.
"I was going to get your Christmas presents from Santa"
"Where are my presents then?"
"I put a charm on it so you can only see it on Christmas"
"Okay"
"Let's go to bed"
After Harry put Teddy back to bed, he went back downstairs to Ginny. She was trying to hide her excitement, but failed miserably.
"I can't believe it Harry"
"Really, neither can I"
After a while they went to bed and slept peacefully, knowing that they had the rest of their lives together.
