The bridge crew have just saved the planet in "New Eden" and are celebrating.
Tilly sighed. She knew that she may have just saved the day but there was still an annoying feeling something was wrong.
She couldn't think about that right now though. She (and the bridge crew) had just saved an entire planet. Saru must be proud of his newest and youngest cadet. She looked towards the commander who was sighing also with relief.
The whole crew was cheering and was getting louder and louder in Tilly's ears, but it was nothing.
Saru rocked back in his chair. He had finally proved himself worthy of being captain of the Discovery. Now all he had to do was give command back to Pike and the mission was done. Come to think of it, where was Pike. He should have been back by now. He was sure he'd be back soon though.
Suddenly the doors opened from the lift and Lieutenant Owosekun was standing there shaking. Saru turned round to see her standing there covered in some blood.
He walked to meet her before all of the bridge crew saw her.
"Lieutenant what happened?" He asked.
"It's captain Pike. He's really badly injured.
Saru stared into the lieutenants eyes. He could believe what he was hearing.
"How?"
"He took a phaser to the chest. We only just managed to get him back."
"Alright. Go and get yourself clean. I'll tell the crew, they won't want to see you like this."
"Yes commander."
The Lieutenant walked back into the lift and went down to her quarters. Saru was left mystified but he knew he had to tell the crew even if Pike was breaking several Starfleet rules.
Saru sat in the captains chair.
"Lieutenant Detmer."
"Yes commander." She answered.
"Open a channel link to the whole ship please."
"Yes sir."
Detmer opened a channel and nodded at Saru to speak. The rest of the bridge was still celebrating.
"Thank you to all of you for doing your job." Sarus message started. The sincerity in his voice made the bridge go quiet as they wanted to hear what he was going to say next.
"However, I'm afraid to tell you that our captain…. Captain Pike has been wounded in the mission on the planet."
Tilly and Detmer gasped and held their hands up to their mouths. Rhys looked down at the screen and Airiam did the same.
"He is not doing well but we hope for a speedy recovery. For the time being until he recovers, I will be in charge. Thank you all again and let's see if we can get through this." Saru ended the message.
He looked up at the rest of the bridge with tears forming in his eyes. He wiped them away and gave out orders like nothing had happened.
