A/N: Hi! Just so you know, this is a sequel to my other FanFiction Just a Kid. If you haven't read it, Ed is now missing both arms and his right ear, and his right leg, his only limb is severely injured. I hope you enjoy this story!
Chapter 1:
Emotion
Ed
Awake. I was still in the hospital. It was rather annoying, not being able to scratch the itch on my face, seeing to the fact that I am missing both arms. Mustang's whole crew was at my bedside, most of them asleep.
The only one awake was Riza Hawkeye. Sometimes I wonder if she ever sleeps at all. She always seemed to be looking over Mustang's paperwork or reading a book of some sort. Sometimes she just looked at someone, not doing anything. It was kind of creepy, waking up to watching, all knowing eyes staring directly at you.
"Hi Ed. I'm glad you're up." She told me in a low whisper, as not to wake any of the others from their relaxed sleep.
"Hi Lt. Hawkeye. Why aren't you asleep?" I asked her.
"Someone needs to guard you. After all, you are famous in the military and have lots of enimies. And now you can't fight back, because of your...you know...situation." She answered. She still seemed uncomfortable mentioning the fact that I was now missing three limbs at the age of fourteen.
"I don't need a personal guard, after all, the military always has guards outside of hospitals, for that reason." I told her reassuringly. "You can sleep."
"I don't trust anyone with the job but myself. After all, I do have more experience and a higher rank." She said protectively.
"If you say so..." I responded, slightly unnerved by her sheer determination not to sleep.
Riza
I could see it in his eyes. He wasn't the same Edward from before. This had changed him more than he could possibly see. Otherwise he wouldn't be so calm.
Losing yet another limb was hard on him, despite what he said. I can see through his act, I always can. Secretly, deep down inside, he was in pain. Not just physically, but mentally as well. That Michele Corah really did a number on him.
Everyone in Amestris looked up to him as a role model, a superhero, a god even, But really, he is just a kid. Nothing more, nothing less. A kid that has gone through way too much, more than any Ishvalan War Veteran I've ever seen.
This poor child would hide his pain and suffering from the world, but it only got worse and worse as time went on. I can tell because I went through the same phase, hiding everything, until it was all too much to bear.
I was going to help this child, so what happened to me wouldn't happen to him. I would save him from the darkness, show him the light of life. I was going to help him every step of the way.
Ed
Shortly after I woke up, the others in the room started to wake. First Falman awoke, focused on the world around him as he was pulled back to reality.
Then there was Breda, mumbling in his sleep to wake suddenly, because Falman had poured some water on his head, as he had done to him the morning before.
Then Havoc woke up, clearly from a nightmare by the look in his eyes. It was probably a bad one, considering how fast he sat up in the chair he was in.
Then Mustang was the last one asleep. "Tiny miniskirts! Hawkeye wears it..." He started to mumble in his sleep. I wanted to hear the rest of his dream, but Hawkeye had slapped him in the face none too gently in order to stop his madness. What no one noticed was the slight blush powdering her cheeks at the sound of his dream.
"Whodaawhatnow?" He asked, confused by his surroundings. Havoc and Breda were laughing their heads off, hearing him dream about the reason he wanted to become Fúhrer to begin with.
I had to admit, it was hilarious. I was laughing as well. That's when Hawkeye cocked her pistol. We all stopped laughing and Mustang shot to attention.
She wasn't nicknamed 'the Hawk's Eye' for nothing. You don't mess with a sniper, no matter what the circumstance. Everyone new that much at least.
I wished Al were here. He had only seen me once in the past week, and that was the moment he had discovered that I had been found alive, if not well. I smiled softly at the memory of the giant suit of armor running towards my hospital bed, yelling 'Brother! You're OK!' Even though I clearly wasn't.
I didn't tell him that though, he was after all my little brother, and I didn't want to hurt his feelings.
As we started to calm down and begin to talk again, a doctor walked into my room.
"I'm sorry Mr. Elric, but I'm afraid I have some bad news." He said.
Oh no. What was going to happen to me this time? Was it life threatening? Were there going to be needles involved? I thought to myself as I came up with a few different scenarios where I would eventually perish. When did I become so pessimistic? I wondered as the doctor continued.
"You're going to need surgery if we're to save your leg." He said, as straight faced as doctors were supposed to be. "This is of course up to you, but I strongly recommend this surgery, otherwise, we may have to amputate it. The damage done was extremely devastating."
I looked down, horrified. I would either have to get surgery, or lose my last remaining limb. I knew which choice was better, but I didn't want to admit it. I had to though, or my leg would disappear as well.
"I'll have the surgery." I said softly, almost inaudible. It was amazing how four words could bring you to tears in an instant.
"We'll preform the surgery on June 13." The doctor said, still showing no emotion whatsoever. He then turned and walked out the door.
What nobody in the room knew, was that the moment the door was closed, the doctor showed some emotion. "The poor kid. He's gotten enough pain for three lifetimes." He spoke softly to himself, as a single tear ran down his cheek.
A/N: so that's the chapter. I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!!
