An enigma. Eyes and personality like ice. History lost to time. Tool of conspiracy. A present for self righteous proclivity. A tragedy in a foreign land. A familiar story. I might even call myself.
I'm lost in his sea of gravity. I'm trapped in a prison I can not see. Reaching for the starlight tempting me with freedom. A prism of endless servitude. Always searching for something to believe in.
His smiles are beautiful. The exposure brings about my own. Almost like I'm programmed to always react to it. Yet there's something sad about them, his smiles. It's like he's carrying the weight of the world within. But the toll has started to break his body. His smile. It no longer reaches his eyes. And when I look into his eyes there is always a play of conflict in them. What's keeping him alive now? Why does he only look happy when there's blood?
On the balcony he stands, dark eyes fixed on the moon. On the quiet night that covers Diamond City below as everyone unwinds.
I'm sure he noticed my presence many hours ago. But he doesn't acknowledge me. He just keeps watching.
I start to make my way back to our little place on the Diamond. But his voice stops me.
"It never ceases", he says. "Being lonely..."
"But Blue, don't you know I'm here for you?" I point out. "You don't have to be lonely."
He gripped the railing, hands dripping a stream of liquid. "Is that so?"
"It is," I repeated. I moved closer, trying to see what he had on his hands.
"Are you sure about that?"'
"I am. We help each other out. I will always be there for you."
"Maybe you're right", He speaks softly, almost like it pained him to admit it.
That worked? Guess I'm getting better at this social interaction thing.
"So mind telling me what's bothering you?" I ask wrapping my arms around his waist, hands reaching for his.
He says nothing, perhaps hesitant, not wanting me to worry. Did he not know I could only worry about him?
"You know, technically it is my job to worry about you. Since you did buy my contract."
"The thing that is grieving me." He nodded, placing his hands out of reach. "It's... you. You're the problem."
Wait what?
"A-are you sure?"
He nodded. "You prevent me from doing what I'm meant to do."
"Huh?" I cocked my head, letting go of him in favor of standing to his left.
"Humanity is full of broken hearts that need to be healed. Mutated subsections they need to be cleansed. All frail and scared. Shells of empty space. Always waiting for something. Hopeless souls in need of a change."
I stared blankly at him.
"Just as I thought." He sighed. "You wouldn't understand."
"Is this a joke?" I laughed. "Did the Children of Atom put you up to this?"
"Dear Cait, I feel it in my bones." He said gripping my shoulders. "A need to be your guide. To help you. I need to strike you down. But not just you. My conscience was right. I need to restore order. To bring about fear. To save the lost souls of humanity. Save them from their meaningless existence. Super Mutants. Ghouls. Humans. I am meant to lead them. To be the god of the wasteland."
"Y-you're scaring me. Let's just go home. You haven't slept. That's it. You need Ow-"
He pulled me closer to his face. Sitting me on the ledge. A position that meant only his hands were preventing a one-way fall to the basement. "I'm starting my crimson symphony. Won't you take your place? When the world was turned to grey. When all I loved grew cold. A voice descended to help me through my madness. To show me the way. My purpose in this wasteland."
I squeaked. Struggling to escape his iron grasp.
"Look at me, Cait. I want to see your eyes. Like I did my son. I want to know when only fear remains. And it fills you. I want to know you're ready for my gift."
"You were always looking for heroes. Well now one stands before you. How does it feel? To be the first to be cured of the sickness and not have to worry about decaying?"
His left hand reached for my neck, where he then increased the pressure just enough to make me gasp. "Why are you doing this?" I asked exasperated by the agonizingly slow pace of his movements.
He frowned. "You don't want to be killed?"
"NO!" I shouted as loudly as I could.
He looked taken aback by this revelation. But then his eyes once again fogged over. Dragging me by my neck he walked over to where the railing was missing. My bare feet dancing on empty air as I tried to find purchase.
As he held me out over the open air, I started to hear the sounds of Diamond City's residents catching on to what was happening above them. Shouts of "oh nos!" And, "get up there!"
He chuckled as he watched people rushing to my aid. "The fools. They don't understand that I'm here to make their dreams come true."
Finally turned back to me, he said with a seductive smirk, "I'm setting you free of your bonds. Awaken to the truth."
Then I was let to fall. Draped in darkness. As I watched Blue mold his crimson symphony.
