Chapter 1

"Growlithe, use quick attack!" yells Officer Jenny to her loyal orange partner. The Growlithe uses quick attack to catch up with the group of fleeing teenagers.

"We gotta split up!" yells a young man with red hair.

"No shit, Mason." Says a teenage girl with navy hair running next to the young man named Mason.

"Hey! Me and D will run left at the block up ahead. Y'all go right!" Yells a brunette boy with a thick frame. The last member of the group, D, doesn't respond but splits left once the end of the block arrives. Mason and the girl go right and so does the Growlithe; however, Officer Jenny stays on the tail of the two young boys.

"Stop right there!" shouts Officer Jenny from behind. The brunette boy starts gasping for breath and falling behind. D seems to slow down to keep pace with the boy.

"Let's split. She can't catch both of us." The quiet boy D tells the brunette. The brunette nods and splits left at the next fork in the road. D turns right, and unfortunately for him, so does Officer Jenny.

As D runs under the shadows of the night sky and dim city lights, he sees a wall up ahead signalling a dead end. The boy looks around for an exit. Luckily, he spots a dumpster next to the dead end wall and heaves himself up top. D then climbs over the wall and lands on his feet ready to walk again when he gets tackled hard into the wall he had just hopped over. D opens his eyes and sees the culprit to his demise: it is Officer Jenny's Growlithe. The orange pup growls at the boy.

A second later, Officer Jenny hops over the wall panting hard. "Stand down, Growlithe." She tells the pup who immediately backs off. D knowing he has been caught, puts his hands up in surrender. Officer Jenny turns him on his stomach and handcuffs his hands behind his back. "I knew this was a deadend. I guess you didn't." She smirks. "You are under arrest for thievery and trespassing. You have the right to remain silent. You…" D drowns out the miranda rights he has heard often enough already.

1 Hour Later

"Lucky for you, you are a minor, so no jail time. However, this is your 9th arrest this year and your 2nd one this month. We have no choice but to put you on house arrest for 90 days." a male officer tells the boy D. "Your parents will be here any minute, so I suggest you prepare what to tell them."

The boy mumbles something under his breath, which results in a sharp glance from the male officer. "What did you say?" The officer asks annoyed.

The boy rolls his eyes but responds, "My mom." is all he says.

The officer gives the boy a confused look. "What about your mom?" he asks.

The boy sighs and says annoyed, "My mom will be here any minute. I don't have another parent." The response is cold enough to send shivers down the officer's back.

The officer gives the boy a look of pity. "Dillon. Your father, the champion, is busy with the league. As his son, you should behave yourself better so as to not stress him out."

Dillon sighs angrily, but before he can respond, he hears the doors of the Cerulean City Police Department bang open. Him and the entire police station already know the cause of the noise as their gym leader storms through the room.

Although not noticeable to those around him, Dillon flinches at the angry sight of his mother. She is in her usual swimsuit from battling trainers at the gym while she had put on sweatpants and a jacket over it, but Dillon could tell she was coming from a long night of work.

He hadn't been home in a few days, so this is his first time seeing her this week. She turns and spots Dillon. If one did not think she could any angrier, well boy were they wrong. Her orange hair was down to below her shoulders while her normally porcelain face was red with anger. Dillon's cerulean eyes meet his mother's identical ones. He looks away quickly as she makes her way over to him.

"Dillon. Ashton. Ketchum." she seethes between her teeth while glaring down at the boy. She then turns her attention to the male officer. "What is it this time?" she asks him while gripping her son's shoulder hard.

"Hello Leader Misty!" The officer smiles and extends a hand to the woman. "I am Officer Mark." Misty shakes his hand.

"Fake ass." Dillon mumbles under his breath, which causes Misty to squeeze his shoulder hard. How his skinny mom had that much strength, he had no idea.

"Hello Officer Mark. Please tell me everything, and do not go easy on my son just because he is my son." She shoots Dillon a sharp glance before returning her gaze to the officer.

"I will make this quick since I know you are busy, Leader Misty. Dillon and a group of 3 other youth were caught stealing from the PokeMart. We only managed to catch Dillon. Since this is his 9th arrest this year and the 2nd one this month, we are going to put him on house arrest for 90 days starting tomorrow." Officer Mark tells a fuming Misty. She glares down at her son.

"Stealing? Again? You do not need to steal when your parents are one of the wealthiest people in the world!" She tells him angrily. Dillon knows once they are in the privacy of their house, she will be shouting at him. She then turns to the officer. "Um. I know I told you not to treat us any differently because of our family status, but do you think we can push back his house arrest for a few days? We are supposed to be in Pallet Town this weekend."

Officer Mark smiles up at Misty. "Why yes! That is totally okay! We can start his house arrest once you get back. Does Tuesday sound okay? That will give you Monday to rest after your travel back from Pallet Town."

Misty smiles at the officer. "Thank you Officer Mark. We will see you on Tuesday."

Officer Mark bids them farewell, and Misty grips her son's upper arm hard. She drags him to the car and the two drive off. The entire car ride back to the gym is silent. Dillon looks out the window into the night sky. By the time he's in his mom's car, he sees that it is already 1 in the morning. The car pulls into the garage attached to the living quarters of the gym. The two walk into the quiet house.

Dillon gets ready to walk up the stairs when he hears his mother close the front door behind him and say, "Not so fast." He pauses at the base of the stairs, but he does not turn around to face his mother. "You will look at me when I talk to you Dillon." She says angrily. He reluctantly turns around to face her but does not look at her face. Rather, he keeps his gaze at her feet. "After your house arrest, your dad and I will be sending you to boarding school."

"He is not my dad." Dillon responds angrily. Misty's gaze on the boy seems to soften but then her angry motherly face returns. She chooses to ignore the sensitive topic for her son's sake.

"You are already 16, Dillon. You should have left for your pokemon journey years ago! (The legal age to be a pokemon trainer increased from 10 to 13 and traveling with someone at least 15 years old since who would let a 10 year old into the wild alone? Or to be 15 years old to travel alone.) I am too busy with the gym and taking care of the basic needs of this family to have you getting locked up every month! Your arrests are keeping you from going on your own journey! What are you thinking?!" She shouts at him.

Dillon continues to avoid eye contact. "Sure. Boarding school. Do whatever you want. And I don't want to be a pokemon trainer. Can I go now?" He mumbles.

Misty glares at her son. "No, you may not! I want to know why you keep on doing these things?"

Dillon sighs and rubs the back of his neck. "Mom. I'm tired. I just want to shower and go to sleep. Can we talk about this tomorrow?"

Misty sighs as she notices the time. "Fine. We will talk about this on the whole car ride to Pallet Town."

For the first time since the police station, Dillon meets his mother's gaze. "What? I thought Pallet Town was not until Friday?" Dillon checks his pokenav and sees that the date is indeed Wednesday 1:30AM. Before he can react, his pokenav is swiped from his hands. He looks up to see his mother holding it.

"You are grounded, young man. I cannot spend another day in Cerulean City knowing you will be running around with your little gang, so we will be going to your grandmother's in Pallet Town to get you away from all of that. I will be bringing my gym paperwork to catch up on. The gym will be fine closed for a few days. I suggest you pack tonight since we will be leaving at 10 in the morning." With that, Misty walks past her son, kisses his forehead, and up the stairs.

Dillon groans and goes up the stairs after he is sure his mother is in her room. As he reaches the top of the stairs, he hears a door open. Internally groaning to himself at the thought of his mother having more to say to him, he takes a deep breath to prepare for her little useless lecture. Much to his relief, it is his younger sister who is giving him a judgmental look in the dimly lit hallway. "What?" he asks her annoyedly.

The girl rolls her eyes. "Whatever, Dillon." She says and goes back in her room. If their mother was not already quietly in her room, Dillon would've kicked his sister's door hard to annoy her. Instead, the boy opts to skip the shower and go to sleep.
